While we’ve always covered the gamut of gun-related news, training, gun rights and other ballistic topics, TTAG’s most popular content category has always been our gun reviews. Good and bad, up and down, our readers love to read — and then comment on — our takes on handguns, rifles and shotguns.

We’re frequently asked what reviews are the post popular. The interesting thing is, that changes over time. And the guns that people read about most often can be an interesting barometer of what’s popular and what’s selling.

So here’s the current list of our five most-read gun reviews in ascending order — along with the overall ratings from the review and the current retail prices — which, in the end, may surprise you.

5. Ruger Precision Rifle in 6.5 Creedmoor

Dan Z for TTAG

I had a really hard time giving this rifle only four stars, but I ultimately felt that the butt stock held it back just enough to warrant a less than perfect score. I also think that’s indicative of just how good this rifle is. When the one thing that you have to bitch about is the stock and how it’s just a little flimsy, you know that, a) you’re reaching a bit, and b) the rifle is nearly perfect. And for the price, you will not be disappointed.

Current retail price: $1200

4. SIG SAUER P320 9mm Pistol

Nick Leghorn for TTAG

Nick’s Overall Rating: * * * *
It’s not perfect. Well, not yet anyway. A crisper trigger would go a long way. But out of the box, the gun is about 3 and a half stars. Factor in the insane level to which you can customize this gun and it earns a full 4 stars. A truly modular handgun that can be configured to different sizes, it is executed with typical SIG SAUER precision.

Current retail price: $579

3. Smith & Wesson SD-9 VE 9mm Pistol

Tyler Kee for TTAG

Tyler’s Overall Rating: * * * *
Writing for TTAG has made me kind of a snob when it comes to firearms. But the SD9 VE brought me down a notch. Here’s a dead-nuts reliable gun that’s a pleasure to shoot for a touch over three bones. It has one glaring flaw in the trigger — but that’s easily remedied for $20. At that price, you really can’t afford not to buy one. Or four. I’m impressed and I hope the SD9 VE is a big seller for Smith & Wesson.

Current retail price: $267

2. SIG SAUER MCX Rifle

Nick Leghorn for TTAG

Nick’s Overall Rating: * * * *
Trigger-denied perfection.

Current retail price: $1899 (current model, MCX Virtus Patrol)

And…drumroll please…the all-time most-read gun review at The Truth About Guns is . . .

1. SCCY CPX-2 9mm Pistol

Nick Leghorn for TTAG

Nick’s Overall Rating: * * * *
While this isn’t my first choice for a home defense or concealed carry pistol, I can definitely see why SCCY sells so many. It’s cheap and reliable enough to meet the needs of a new shooter looking for a budget self defense firearm.

Current retail price: $150
