TTAG Daily Digest: The Fickle Finger of Firearms Fate

“A Maryland family is fighting the one day school suspension of a 6-year-old boy  [not shown] who made a gun gesture with his thumb and forefinger while in class,” nydailynews.com reports. “The boy was suspended after pointing the finger gun at a classmate and saying ‘pow.’ The incident came a week after a gunman stormed Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn., killing 26 people, including 20 children.” One week! Didn’t the boy know that you have to wait two weeks after a school shooting before pretending to shoot someone with your finger? Just as the nydailynews.com has to mention Sandy Hook in every firearms-related story for at least three weeks. Sorry I had to point that out. And here’s some more finger pointing . . .

“I have sworn an oath to heal and to protect humans,” David H. Newman writes in The New York Times, mischaracterizing the Hippocratic Oath. “Guns, invented to maim and destroy, are my natural enemy.” Unless someone’s trying to kill you, your family, a patient or other innocent life, and you happen to have a gun in your hand.

Talk about gun grabbers . . . 2.7M NICS background checks in December. abc.go.com

Now there’s a euphemism if I ever heard one. Gun-Control Converts Could Pave Way to New Laws: Sen. Robert Casey (D-Pa.), Senator Joe Manchin (D-WV), Rep. John Yarmuth (D-KY), Rep. Mike Thompson (D-CA), Rep. Bennie Thompson (D-MS) nationaljournal.com

Thank GOD for the TSA. “In 2012 more than 1,500 firearms were discovered by screeners at airport checkpoints, TSA spokesman David Castelveter said. That is an average of more than four weapons a day.” cnn.com

Avoid stupid people ignoring stupid laws in stupid places. CA cops charge comedian Katt Williams with child endangerment for grass and firearms stash. “How do you keep kids safe without guns? If the police come in and raid my place and break into my gun boxes, you’re gonna find guns! I’m not in a gang, what difference does it make?” Also, “Weed is not a drug.” sfgate.com

Protest sloppy graphics! And misdirection. The definitive study on the subject concluded that 0.7 percent of guns used in crimes come from gun shows, and all FFL gun dealers must perform background checks—even at gun shows.
