However, people are not just buying any gun. The report shows people in Sacramento County preferred to buy handguns over long guns, while the trend across the state was the reverse between 2001 and 2015. ‘We get people in every day that are concerned about their safety and their well-being,’ Just Guns owner Josh Deaser said. The top 10 firearm brand manufacturers people bought in California between 2001 and 2015 are:”

Thank goodness another dangerous weapon has been taken of the streets: Yesterday, officers from the headquarters of the Kazimierza Wielka County (Poland) Police detained a 35 year old man, resident of the county, who was in possession of a firearm without the required permit. – “Police were informed that a resident of one of the region’s towns [some 30 miles northeast of Krakow] may be in possession of a firearm without the requisite permit. Yesterday, uniformed officers, in the course of conducting a search of the residence, discovered a revolver [see photo] most likely originating from the era of the Second World War.” Original article here. Of course they are: NYT: More Gun Control, Less Crime – “The New York Times  is encouraging voters in states with gun control on the ballot to vote for stronger regulations under the guise that more gun control equals less crime. Meanwhile, gun-controlled Chicago is nearing 600 homicides for 2016 alone.”

Here’s a surprise…Bloomberg-funded Johns Hopkins thinks guns are bad: Guns in America: Facts, figures, and an up-close look at the gun reform debate – “In the opening days of 2016, President Barack Obama attempted to steer the national conversation to guns. The violence witnessed in the United States the previous year demanded action. By some assessments, 2015 was the year of the mass shooting. During a prayer service at a Charleston, South Carolina, church, a lone gunman killed nine people, including the senior pastor. On a community college campus in Roseburg, Oregon, a student fatally shot nine people and wounded seven. In San Bernardino, California, a married couple opened fire on a holiday party, leaving 14 people dead and 22 wounded.”

Colt and Smith & Wesson weren’t the only GunCos who took a crack at designing a smart gun in the 1990s.

Florida Republican who blocked campus carry bill rakes in Bloomberg bucks: Everytown for Gun Safety Launches Ad Campaign in Support of State Senator Miguel Diaz de la Portilla – “Florida Everytown for Gun Safety Victory Fund today announced an $85,000 ad campaign to fund online digital ads, digital bus shelter ads and a digital billboard in support of Republican State Senator Miguel Diaz de la Portilla. The Victory Fund is a Florida political committee affiliated with Everytown for Gun Safety Action Fund and the Florida chapter of Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America, a part of Everytown for Gun Safety. Senator Diaz de la Portilla has worked to promote public safety for the past two years. Using his position as Chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, he declined to hear a bill that would have allowed guns on Florida’s many college campuses and another that would have allowed people to openly carry handguns in public.”

When seconds count… Houston 911 Operator Charged Over Hanging Up on Callers – “A former Houston 911 operator is facing criminal charges for hanging up on callers because ‘she did not want to talk to anyone,’ according to Houston Police investigators. Crenshanda Williams, 43, faces two misdemeanor charges of Interference with Emergency Telephone Call stemming from incidents in March. According to charge documents filed with the Harris County Court, Williams worked for the Houston Emergency Center where managers determined that she was involved in thousands of “short calls” — emergency calls that last less than 20 seconds — between Oct. 2015 and March 2016. In one case, Williams allegedly hung up on a man who called to report a robbery in progress March 12.”

Chicago isn’t the only big city police force hamstringing reining in its officers: LAPD Officers Ordered To Shoot Only After Non Lethal Options Exhausted – “Los Angeles Police officers must now exhaust all forms of non-lethal means before shooting a suspect. The L.A. Police Commission approved a wide array of law enforcement reforms Tuesday including training for officers to help in de-escalation and verbal skills when faced with a violent perpetrator.”
