New from Magpul: X-22 Backpacker Stock for Ruger 10/22 Takedown

I have a Ruger 10/22 Takedown and absolutely love it. So much so that I SBR’ed it and turned it into the smallest, quietest piece of awesome I own. But there’s still a problem: the stock is neither pretty nor ergonomic. It can definitely be improved. Thankfully the folks at Magpul are on the case and have just released the X-22 Backpacker stock for the Ruger 10/22 Takedown.

It’s cool that the X-22 looks better, but the big advantage here is its functionality. The 10/22 Takedown comes apart into two pieces for easy transport. Magpul’s designed the replacement stock so that the forend snaps into place in a cutout in the buttstock. That keeps everything in one neat package so you can throw it in your backpack and not worry about the barrel falling out somewhere along the way. The top of the stock also opens for ammo and magazine storage.

The Henry AR-7 survival rifle has been about the best solution for a one-piece compact survival rifle. Magpul, though, may have just changed the game. Needless to say I’m already on the list to get one…once they actually start full production. Stay tuned for a review.
