Irresponsible Gun Owner of the Day: Unnamed Drunk Moviegoer

Drive about a half-hour south of Seattle and you’ll find the town of Renton, WA. It was at the Regal Cinemas there on January 21st at the 8:00 PM screening of “13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi” when an apparently drunk moviegoer negligently discharged his pistol, striking a woman in the chest . . .

The 40-year-old woman was rushed to the hospital and arrived in critical condition, later downgraded to serious. But the drunk shooter beat feet out of the theater first. It was only later, when, according to KOMO News

Police say the shooter’s father called 911 Thursday night from his Newcastle home and told dispatchers his son was distraught and told him that he dropped his gun at a Renton movie theater and it discharged.

According to witnesses, the man was screwing around with his pistol 15-20 minutes into the movie and “it went off.”

The 29-year-old was arrested without incident. His identity has not yet been released, but he wins our IGOTD award regardless. That, of course, is the least of his problems as he’s looking at multiple felony charges plus, I’m sure, a sizable civil suit. All of which it sounds like he’s earned in full.
