Quiet? Mother Jones does everything she can to make this sound like some kind of furtive, secret plan . . . The Gun Industry’s Quiet New Push to Boost Silencer Sales

The new legislation “assaults the interests of our nation’s law enforcement officials and threatens our public safety and security,” David Chipman, a retired ATF special agent and senior policy adviser at Americans for Responsible Solutions, said at a recent congressional hearing. “When silencers are used in crime, the results are particularly deadly.”

Metaphor alert! . . . Police firearms officer accidentally shoots himself in foot while on call

A Metropolitan Police spokesman said: “Firearms officers attended an address in Old Oak Common Lane to carry out a welfare check on an occupant there.

“After completing the call and leaving the address, a police firearm was discharged by one of the officers causing an injury to his foot.

“He has been taken to a central London hospital for treatment – his condition is not life threatening.

Wait, when was the last time the NYT editorial board dis-approved of anything the Soviets did? Walter Duranty must be spinning in his grave . . . Moscow’s Monument to Murder

Like many a statue in the United States that we have struggled over of late, the towering monument to Mikhail Kalashnikov, unveiled in a highly visible spot in Moscow on Tuesday, seems to have been put up for mostly the wrong reasons. The statue was promoted by the Russian culture minister, Vladimir Medinsky, a nationalist who spends much of his time glorifying Russian military history and who described the familiar assault weapon General Kalashnikov invented, which is widely known by his name, as “a true cultural brand of Russia.”

Politics has always been a dirty business . . . For Trump Aides Caught in Russia Probe, Legal Bills and Paranoia

Four months as a communications adviser to Donald Trump’s campaign have turned Michael Caputo’s life upside down.

Since congressional investigators decided they wanted to interview Caputo as part of an investigation into Russia’s interference in the 2016 election, he’s drained his children’s college fund to pay more than $30,000 in legal fees. He bought guns for his home and office after receiving death threats. He worries about the stress on his wife and daughters.

Pro tip: don’t drive to high school with a machine gun in your car.

From the wilds of New Jersey . . . Congress always has time for guns

Tax protection for the middle class? Too taxing. Addressing the rights of voters to actually vote? Not really. Taking President Trump’s finger off the nuclear button? Stopping the decimation of Roe v. Wade? Undoing the Citizen’s United debacle? Showing compassion for the oppressed and beleaguered? Stop bothering me.

But please be sure to tell all those from Columbine to Sandy Hook, from Gabby Giffords to tomorrow’s Gabby Giffords that our legislators are busy saving the hearing of those with a weapon of permanent destruction in their hand, that there is nothing so important as being a nation of citizens who carries weapons, and that extending the unintended consequences of the Second Amendment seems our infinite national obsession.

Machining an AR-15 Lower from a Solid Block – Part 1

In this series, I’ll take a solid block of aluminum and produce a functional AR-15 lower receiver. I won’t use a drill press, router or store bought lowers or jigs. I decided to use real machinery and start with raw stock, and see how it went. I’ll make the digital models, drawings, fixtures, setups, gages and write some programs to get it done. This will take a few videos to complete, but I’ll send some rounds down range when I’m done. This is bucket list stuff. Even if you’re not a gun guy, you’ll enjoy this one. Take a look.

Yeah, that usually doesn’t fly in New York City . . . Man pulls gun out in Manhattan restaurant, pretends to be a cop when police arrest him

A man clad in body armor sparked panic in Flatiron District Japanese restaurant when he brandished a gun — and claimed to be a cop as he was arrested, officials said Thursday.

Police say they found an assault rifle and eight loaded high-capacity magazines stashed in Kai Ting Yin’s blue MINI Cooper after they arrested him inside the Snow Fox Cafe on E. 23rd St. near Madison Ave. about noon Wednesday.

Yin, 36, of Elmont, L.I., is accused of pulling a gun out of its belt holster inside the restaurant — but didn’t appear interested in shooting it. He was wearing a bullet-proof vest and carrying handcuffs.
