The statue was promoted by the Russian culture minister, Vladimir Medinsky, a nationalist who spends much of his time glorifying Russian military history and who described the familiar assault weapon General Kalashnikov invented, which is widely known by his name, as “a true cultural brand of Russia.”

Machining an AR-15 Lower from a Solid Block – Part 1
In this series, I’ll take a solid block of aluminum and produce a functional AR-15 lower receiver. I won’t use a drill press, router or store bought lowers or jigs. I decided to use real machinery and start with raw stock, and see how it went. I’ll make the digital models, drawings, fixtures, setups, gages and write some programs to get it done.This will take a few videos to complete, but I’ll send some rounds down range when I’m done. A man clad in body armor sparked panic in Flatiron District Japanese restaurant when he brandished a gun — and claimed to be a cop as he was arrested, officials said Thursday.
Police say they found an assault rifle and eight loaded high-capacity magazines stashed in Kai Ting Yin’s blue MINI Cooper after they arrested him inside the Snow Fox Cafe on E. 23rd St. near Madison Ave. about noon Wednesday.
Yin, 36, of Elmont, L.I., is accused of pulling a gun out of its belt holster inside the restaurant — but didn’t appear interested in shooting it. He was wearing a bullet-proof vest and carrying handcuffs.
