High school stocks classrooms with ‘safety bucket’ in case of active shooter

At least that Pennsylvania gave each classroom a bucket of rocks to throw at a shooter . . .

Heidi Hummel and her classmates are gearing up for their senior year at Clio High School.

In this day and age, in light of all the school shootings, back-to-school prep has taken a more somber tone. This year at Clio, every classroom will have what’s called a “safety bucket.”

“We are unloading them and using them in the event of a lockdown situation. We’re also going to use them as food and supplies if we were ever locked down for a long time,” Hummel said.

The buckets will go into every classroom in the district.

Assistant Principal Kevin Ayre said the school needs the public’s help to fill the buckets with potentially life-saving supplies.

“They’re going to be filled with gauze, bandages, water. You know, necessities in the situation that we have to be in a long-term lockdown,” Ayre said.

Army’s new machine gun will blast like battle tanks

Wut? . . .

The Next Generation Squad Automatic Rifle (NGSAR) may replace about 80,000 SAWs (the M249 squad automatic weapon). The well-known and loved M249 SAWs were already beasts — now the Army’s light machine gun is going to get even more powerful.

Armed with the NGSARs, soldiers will have the confidence of knowing the new weapon can be relied on for stopping power against sophisticated adversaries who arrive to fight in advanced body armor.

The goal is for the weapon’s chamber pressure to achieve similar levels to battle tanks. Recent conflicts have shown that currently issued weapons have not been sufficient when tackling the challenge of forces with defense innovation and access to modern equipment.

Virgin Islands governor’s gun-confiscation plan probed by Republicans

We first reported on this here and here . . .

Republican lawmakers are inquiring into an order from U.S. Virgin Islands Gov. Kenneth Mapp that theoretically allowed the state to seize citizens’ firearms ahead of Hurricane Irma last year.

Rep. Rob Bishop, who chairs the House Natural Resources Committee, and Rep. Bob Goodlatte, who chairs the House Judiciary Committee, sent Mapp, an independent, a letter Wednesday asking for clarification on an executive order he signed in September 2017 they said is still in effect.

The order, according to the two Republicans, gave the adjutant general the authority “to seize arms, ammunition, explosives and incendiary material and other property required.”

The order also “allows for the National Guard to spend government resources to acquire firearms and ammunition outside of normal government procurement processes.”

Bishop told Fox News’ Tucker Carlson the lawmakers want to know if “as devastating as those two hurricanes were, if that ever justifies the denial of a civil liberty or the denial of a constitutional right.”

Arkansas man gets 7 years for selling guns to felon in Chicago area

Huh. I’d been assured by all of the smartest people that we needed more laws enacted to prevent this kind of thing . . .

An Arkansas man was sentenced to more than seven years in prison for buying guns in his home state to sell illegally in Chicago and the southwest suburbs.

U.S. District Judge Ronald A. Guzman sentenced 28-year-old Klint Kelley of Malvern, Arkansas, to seven years and three months in federal prison on Wednesday, according to a statement from the U.S. Attorney’s Office. Kelley pleaded guilty earlier this year to one federal count of unlawfully engaging in the business of dealing firearms and one count of selling firearms to a known felon.

Would an armed leftist movement finally provoke sensible gun laws in America?

More gun owners on the other side of the political divide? Bring it on . . .

California’s gun control laws were jumpstarted by rifle-carrying Black Panthers who attended government meetings and went out “copwatching” (shadowing abusive white cops); white conservatives who’d been staunch ammosexuals, opposed to any limits on gun ownership and carrying, suddenly changed their tune and started hollering for gun control.

Last February, Medhi Hasan proposed a mass Muslim sign-on to the NRA, and now Stephen Eiseman asks what would happen if “Black Lives Matter, ACLU, Emily’s List, NAACP, Human Rights Campaign, PETA, The American Library Association, Planned Parenthood, Democratic Socialists of America, the American Communist Party, MoveOn.Org, Southern Poverty Law Center, Mother Jones Magazine, Pacifica Radio, Alternet, Earth First!, Michael Moore, Paul Krugman, Stephen Colbert and Natalie Portman all advocated the immediate arming of everybody on the left, including the right to openly carry a loaded weapon, and to bring them to political protests.”

Trump endorses the candidate who’s running against the NRA’s pick for Georgia governor.
