Two years after the Orlando nightclub massacre, gay Americans are arming themselves to stay alive

Armed self defense is everyone’s right . . .

“I DON’T want to get beaten to death, stabbed and burnt alive,” a slight woman with long blond hair and a checked shirt says. “I want a gun to feel equal.”

She is a member of one of the United States’ fastest growing gun clubs, the jauntily named Pink Pistols.

Two years after the massacre at Orlando’s Pulse nightclub, gay, lesbian and transgender Americans are nervous. According to the Human Rights Centre (HRC), a US LGBTI advocacy group, 52 gay people were murdered in the US last year, because of their sexuality, and 28 transgender people met the same fate.

In increasing numbers, they are fighting back by taking up arms.

Colorado Democrat Advocates for Gun Control by Pepper-Spraying His Eyeballs in a Neat New Ad

When you have no other plausible message and need to get your name recognized . . .

A Democrat running for a seat in Colorado’s sixth congressional district is taking an unorthodox approach to getting the vote out.

Levi Tillemann, a progressive candidate running for a House seat this year, released an ad last week that he hopes will shine a light on alternative approaches to gun control in schools and other soft-target areas.

“I’m calling on Congress to stop talking past each other and try something new,” he says in the video. “Empower schools and teachers with non-lethal self-defense tools, like this can of pepper spray.”

The entire 2-minute video, aptly titled “This Will Save Lives,” is entertaining on just about every level.

Frustrated AMA adopts sweeping policies to cut gun violence

The “gun violence is a public health crisis” lobbying group is frustrated . . .

With frustration mounting over lawmakers’ inaction on gun control, the American Medical Association on Tuesday pressed for a ban on assault weapons and came out against arming teachers as a way to fight what it calls a public health crisis.

At its annual policymaking meeting, the nation’s largest physicians group bowed to unprecedented demands from doctor-members to take a stronger stand on gun violence — a problem the organizations says is as menacing as a lethal infectious disease.

The action comes against a backdrop of recurrent school shootings, everyday street violence in the nation’s inner cities, and rising U.S. suicide rates.

CMS principal whose school gun-rally outburst went viral has been reassigned

She dared to speak favorably about guns . . .

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools has reassigned the Collinswood Language Academy principal whose unscripted pro-gun remarks at a student-led “walkout” left some people baffled and others irate.

Jennifer Pearsall, who has led the K-8 language magnet school since 2015, “will be transitioning out of the leadership role at Collinswood Language Academy to serve students from a new role in the district,” Superintendent Clayton Wilcox said in a note sent to Collinswood families Monday. Friday was the last day of school for students.

Neither Wilcox nor Pearsall, whose note to her staff was included with Wilcox’s message, said what the new job is. A CMS spokeswoman said Tuesday she’s checking on that.

California Senate committee should reject bill denying young adults the right to defend themselves

But they won’t . . .

The bill will make it illegal for firearms and ammunition to be transfered or sold to young adults aged 18-20 by licensed firearms dealers. In other words, AB3 is just a bailout for unlicensed firearms and ammunition dealers.

It is set to go before California’s Senate Public Safety Committee on Tuesday. I encourage anyone who values liberty and opposes the perpetual erosion of our freedoms to make their opposition known to their representatives in the Legislature.

Unfortunately, AB3 is just the latest reflection of the contempt many in the Legislature have for the Second Amendment.
