Defensive Gun Use of the Day: Black on White Shooting Ruled Justified

I have often read keyboard racists claim that black men cannot use firearms for self defense, that the courts will always find against them, no matter what. This is a pernicious lie that is destructive to the rule of law. In this story from Florida, a black man defended himself from what appears to be a version of the “knockout game“.  In the video above he is hit in the face (at 6:40), draws his firearm, then shoots another attacker who charges him (at 6:55). The video does not show him doing anything to provoke the attack (auto-play video after the jump). . .

His attackers appear to have been drunk. If the races were reversed, I would expect the same result, except that the media would be trumpeting headlines about a white man shooting an unarmed black man.

From newspress.com:

An investigation showed the shooter, 28-year-old Jehrardd Williams, shot and killed in self-defense as he was being charged by a shirtless man who had been yelling racial slurs at him minutes earlier, according to a Lee County Sheriff’s Office report.

Williams shot Dakota Fields, of Fort Myers, three times as the 24-year-old rushed toward him, the report said. Fields died six miles down the road from the restaurant after the SUV he and friends left in struck a car at the foot of the Edison Bridge.

A study of Florida’s “stand your ground” law, found that black people are more likely to successfully use the defense than are white people. Most homicides are intra-racial. Black people tend to kill other black people, and whites other whites. It is true that more black people murder white people than vice versa, but that is to be expected when you consider statistically, blacks are seven times more likely than people of other races to commit murder according to a 2005 New Century Foundation study.

From thedaileycaller.com:

But approximately one third of Florida “Stand Your Ground” claims in fatal cases have been made by black defendants, and they have used the defense successfully 55 percent of the time, at the same rate as the population at large and at a higher rate than white defendants, according to a Daily Caller analysis of a database maintained by the Tampa Bay Times.  Additionally, the majority of victims in Florida “Stand Your Ground” cases have been white.

Black men and women are learning that their right to bear arms for self defense is protected under shall-issue concealed carry laws, just citizens of any other color.  Stand your ground laws mean that you do not have to submit to a beating by white racists any more than white men or women are required by law to submit to a beating by a black mob.

The sooner that black people learn that they can trust the rule of law, the faster that black homicide rates will fall.
