What happens when your 15 minutes months of fame finally fade and you’re no longer the subject of fawning profiles and softball interviews by media outlets that want nothing more than to help you spread your anti-gun message?
Easy! Make up a story about how your opponents in the debate want you dead and portray yourself as a martyr to the “gun safety” cause.
It obviously wasn’t enough that David Hogg was gifted a spot at Harvard despite grades and test scores that excluded him from allegedly far less prestigious or selective schools. No, it seems Mr. Hogg needs to continually see his name in the media to fluff up a sagging self-image.
Hence, in a recent interview he claimed seven — count ’em, SEVEN — “assassination attempts” have been perpetrated against him since he became a gun control advocate.

The vocal supporter of gun-control legislation detailed his experiences throughout the last 18 months as he went from regular high school student to one of the faces of the school safety movement in an interview with the Washington Post published Tuesday. He was not asked for further details about the threats.
Actually, he really didn’t “detail” them at all.
The Amazon Times‘ KK Ottesen was apparently insufficiently curious about Hogg’s sensational claim to follow up in any meaningful way. No questions about when these alleged attempts occurred. She didn’t ask if there had been arrests of those involved or how close any of the attempts came to succeeding. You know, questions an actual reporter might ask.
Maybe the Post‘s slogan should be Democracy Dies in Disinterest (Especially When Digging Might Disrupt the Narrative). Or maybe that wouldn’t fit on a t-shirt.
All Ottesen could manage to babble was:
Oh, God. So how do you process something like that? And how do you see other people as a result?
Well, I see people as misguided and misinformed of what we’re actually here to talk about. But I also realize, if they kill me that’s probably the sutpidest thing they could do to try to end the movement. Because that would make it even more successful in the end. Because it wold invigorate us and create f—ing change.

Honestly, I realize that it’s horrible that I have to live through this, and it’s traumatizing. But you eventually become desensitized to it. Like, oh, your house gets SWAT-ted. You got a call from the police saying someone said that everyone in your family had been killed and that you are being held hostage for $100,000. Right? That becomes part of daily life. It’s just something that you have to get through. But I mean, what am I going to do? Stop?
Some people do.
Well, I’m not going to stop. I want to go to school and, for lack of a better word, weaponize my knowledge and learn as much as possible to end violence.
David Hogg will be old enough to run for Congress in 2025.
