2016 Online Journalism Awards finalists announced – “This year’s awards reflect a deeper consideration of how newsrooms engage their audiences, focusing on the emerging prevalence of new digital tools, distribution channels and content platforms.” ‘Digital tools’ is certainly one way we’d refer to our friends at The Trace, Michael Bloomberg’s bevy of anti-gun agitprop generators. They’ve been nominated for an OJA for general excellence in online journalism in the small site category. A quick scan of the other nominees, (NY Times, Washington Post, Vox, FRONTLINE, BBC, ProPublica, yadda, yadda) reveals the ONA’s “honors” for what they are…a self-congratulatory circle jerk for left-leaning media. The awards will be handed out at a rubber chicken event in Denver next month. How fun will that be?

Little Rock judge to decide future of 94 guns seized after Arkansas doctor convicted in bombing – “Seven years after federal agents showed up on the doorstep of Dr. Randeep Mann’s Pope County home and carted away 94 guns worth over $1 million, the collectors’ items remain locked up in a secret location while the federal government awaits a judge’s directive on what to do with them. Chief U.S. District Judge Brian Miller is to decide the matter after hearing arguments in his Little Rock courtroom this week from four competing interests.” Maybe using a grenade against another doctor was Dr. Mann’s first mistake. Or not.

Cops Without Guns Dominate as London Awaits ‘Likely’ Attack – “‘I’ve never, ever felt the need to have a firearm,’ (Inspector James) Beattie said while on patrol last week. ‘Our prime tool for defusing any situation or conflict is always talking to someone. If I deal with any confrontation, I’m not reaching for my belt. I’m talking to them to see if I can disengage the situation.'” First, the UK has beefed-up its armed police but good. Second, good luck with that when ISIS comes calling.

Utah restaurant staff to stop open-carrying guns after move – “A Utah restaurant known for kilt-clad servers who openly carry firearms will have to keep them under wraps starting this week. The staff at Sea Bears Ogden Fish House can only carry concealed weapons now that the eatery has relocated to the city’s historic Union Station.” So…untucked shirts or thigh holsters?

Indiana mayors to lobby statehouse for help on gun ordinances – “’I can’t pass a regulation, a law, anything to do in any way with guns ammunition or accessories,’ said (Bloomington Mayor John) Hamilton, ‘and if I do try to do anything, I’m subject to triple attorneys’ fees, penalties, so we’re all prohibited from doing anything.’ About the only thing Hamilton could do was write an OpEd piece for the New York Times titled Pistols at the Pool, Machine Guns on Parade and Nothing We Can Do. Pre-emption…working as intended.

Bossier Sheriff Opens Rifle Range to Public – “Bossier Sheriff Julian Whittington is opening up the sheriff’s office rifle range to the public on three weekends in September so hunters can sight in their rifles. The range at 2955 Old Plain Dealing Road will be open September 3, 10 and 17 from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. each day. It features 12 shooting lanes with targets at 100, 200, 300 and 400 yards.” Civilians and badged civilians shooting together at a range bought and paid for with tax dollars. More please.
