Outside a Philadelphia bar on October 20, a young man was fighting for his life against a mugger when the bar’s security guard intervened as a textbook Good Samaritan.

It was about 1:45 a.m. on Saturday. The attacker, as you may be able to make out in the very low-light security footage, was creeping around in the shadows, staying close to the walls and hiding behind corners. Soon, he located his target, a 27-year-old man, and attacked him. A physical altercation ensued before the attacker fired his gun, hitting the victim once in the chest.

Likely in response to the sound of a gunshot, the bar’s security guard, a licensed concealed carrier, ran outside and allegedly shot the attacker. This happened just in time, as the victim was suffering from critical injuries. Seconds mattered for him, and he, along with the attacker, was rushed to the hospital immediately.

“The guy, I don’t know who he was, he was standing over somebody laying on the ground and he had a gun, going like this [aiming at the attacker], yelling at people to get back in,” recalled a woman who witnessed the event.

Below is some brief video coverage, including some relatively unimpressive surveillance camera footage, which was nevertheless useful to confirm that the shooting was justified.

For those who are interested in seeing all the surveillance cam footage that’s available at this time, there’s a second, somewhat more detailed video here with a rather tiresome advertisement at the beginning:

No charges have been filed against the security guard. The robber will be charged upon release from the hospital. The precise location was the 4800 block of Front Street in the city’s Feltonville section.
