“A shooting at the Cinco de Mayo parade in southwest Detroit has police immediately canceling the parade,’ wxyz.com reports. “7 Action News has learned one person has died in the shooting. The victim is believed to be between the ages of 16 and 19 years old.” A child! “The shooting happened right in the middle of the intersection at Vernor Highway and Ferdinand. Police have one person in custody and are on scene investigating the shooting. They believe there is a gang connection in the shooting.” Which once again proves that Detroit has a gun problem. Sorry, channeled my inner Shannon there. I mean, gang problem. Not that the victim’s aunt -who saw the shooting – sees it that way, exactly . . .

“That’s why I try to tell these kids to stop this. It’s getting out of control … these kids are dying and my nephew wasn’t even in a gang. All this stuff is over gangs and he just hangs out with gang members.”

Belda Garza, a co-president of the Mexican Patriotic Committee that planned the event, expressed condolences to all concerned to mlive.com. “We are devastated about it and the committee our condolences go out to the family of the young man who we believe has died, even the shooter. When something like this happens it’s a tragedy for both people involved and for our community.”

Even the shooter? Where’s the sense of properly focused anger and outrage when you need it? [h/t DrVino]
