Innovative personal defense techniques in anti-gun California . . . ‘2 Guns Pointed at You’: BART Rider Fakes Seizure Upon Being Handed Menacing Note

An Oakland woman on Friday pretended to have a seizure after someone approached her on a BART train and handed her a threatening note, attempting to rob her.

Julie Dragland said she boarded a train in Daly City and was heading home to Dublin when a person in dark clothing climbed onto the train in downtown San Francisco and thrust a note at her.

It read: “There are 2 guns pointed at you now. If you want to live hand back your wallet + phone NOW + do not turn around and be descreet. Do not turn around until after you have left Civic Center + you will live.”

Life imitates art . . . ‘Narcos’ Location Scout Shot and Killed in Mexico

Mexican location scout Carlos Muñoz Portal was shot to death in a violent region in central Mexico Monday while scouting for season four of Netflix’s hit show “Narcos.” The seasoned scout, who worked for Stacy Perskie’s Mexico City-based production company Redrum, has a slew of high profile credits to his name, including, “Sicario,” “Spectre,” “Fast & Furious” and “Apocalypto.”

Netflix issued the following statement: “We are aware of the passing of Carlos Muñoz Portal, a well-respected location scout, and send our condolences to his family. The facts surrounding his death are still unknown as authorities continue to investigate.

Anti-gun actor will no longer use his very particular set of skills in action movies . . . Liam Neeson Has Kicked His Last Ass

On Tuesday, the 65-year-old actor told a crowd at the Toronto International Film Festival that he is officially retiring from action movies, Sky News reports.

“They’re still throwing serious money at me to do that stuff,” he said during press for his definitively-not-action film Mark Felt: The Man Who Brought Down the White House, about the Watergate source. “I’m like: ‘Guys, I’m sixty-fucking-five.’ Audiences are eventually going to go: ‘Come on.'”

The Liberal Gun Club clarifies their position . . . The Trace LGC interview comments

As to the factual correction. The members survey we did earlier this year shows overwhelming support among our members (66%) for this part of our platform:

We favor enforcement of existing regulations over the creation of new regulatory schemes.

Our membership did not indicate in the survey an overwhelming YES to Universal Background Checks. It’s a topic we’ve debated internally for years, and as is the case with many of our positions and takes on things, the answer is much more complicated than a simple yes or no, as the devil is in the details on this kind of thing.

No, but that’s not why he did it . . . Cardinal Cupich’s ban on guns won’t make churches safer

A picture on a church or school door of a gun in a red circle with an X over it is unsettling. It is not conducive to interior peace nor prayer, defeating the purpose of a church or a school. It is an open invitation for radicals to come in and start shooting.

The cardinal’s intentions are good, but he is living in a fantasyland to think that the “no guns” sign will keep out radicals with evil intentions.

These are not friends of ours . . . US nixes proposal to let Turkey guards buy guns

The Trump administration has withdrawn a proposal to let Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s security guards buy $1.2 million in U.S.-made weapons, a congressional official said Monday, following violence against protesters during Erdogan’s visit to Washington this spring.

Earlier this year, the administration told Congress it planned to allow New Hampshire gunmaker Sig Sauer to sell the weapons, which include hundreds of semi-automatic handguns and ammunition. The notification triggered a period in which Congress could review the deal before final approval is granted. The weapons would have gone to an intermediary in Turkey for use by Erdogan’s presidential security forces.

That was pretty much the point . . . The gun registry’s legacy – creating needless paperwork criminals

Goodale also brought Justice Minister Jody Wilson-Raybould along to reassure the government’s rural caucus his law to preserve an archive of old firearms records was not really a stealthy attempt to resurrect the registry.

The fear of such a “backdoor” registry is very real among gunowners, and rightly so.

Recall that during the tumultuous flooding in High River, Alberta in the spring of 2013, Mounties went door-to-door breaking into hundreds of homes looking for firearms. In the name of finding survivors, officers searched homes that were untouched by flood waters but where, it was later learned, there were registry records of guns in the home.

During some searches, Mounties also seemed to be checking list of guns from the registry, even though all registry records were supposed to have been deleted nearly a year earlier.

OMG! An NRA Sweepstakes! In the mail! OMG! . . . The Day I Got 23 Guns in the Mail

“You and I know our enemies are not going away if we lay down our arms now,” it reads. “They have more resolve than ever. And they’re promising to fight on and never surrender. Again, you don’t have to join NRA to enter the sweepstakes. It won’t improve your chances of winning. But your NRA membership will definitely improve your chances of holding the line against those who would like nothing more than to destroy your freedom. Standing together under the NRA banner is the best guarantee for the long-term survival of our freedom, our heritage and our American way of life.”

Ah, yes, the gilded buzzword: “heritage.” What are the fruits of this heritage? Colonialism, white supremacy, fear and rage, all wound together to facilitate a national bloodbath that has killed more people than smallpox.  Mr. LaPierre would have his followers believe in a horde of liberal gun-grabbing brigands looming over the horizon, just waiting for the right time to strike. Five years ago, 20 children and 6 staff members were slaughtered at Sandy Hook Elementary School with a gun very much like the one Mr. LaPierre wants to give me today. The fact that I received this gun-swaddled sweepstakes mailer in the first place is proof positive that nothing, but nothing, has changed.
