SAF Reports 1,200% Spike in Members, Donors from Young Adults Since FLA. – Oh darn. We hate when that happens . . .
Since the tragic mass shooting at a Florida high school last month resulted in efforts to restrict firearms ownership by young adults, the Second Amendment Foundation has experienced a 1,200 percent increase in the number of 18- to 20-year-olds joining or supporting the organization, SAF founder and Executive Vice President Alan M. Gottlieb reported today.
“We normally don’t get that many members or donors in that age group,” Gottlieb noted, “since the gun rights movement typically trends toward older Americans. But the 18- to 20-year-olds have never been specifically targeted before, and they are obviously alarmed. This influx of young Americans into the gun rights movement is important, not just to respond to the current gun control threat, but as the movement has gotten older, it is encouraging to see so many young adults getting involved in support of Second Amendment rights.
“SAF has always conducted leadership training conferences,” he continued, “but now we’ll increase our emphasis on a younger audience, to integrate them into leadership roles.”

The last NYPD cops assigned full-time to New York City public schools are being moved out — despite nationwide calls for heightened security in the wake of last month’s Florida shootings.
As the nation mourned the 17 victims of the school massacre at Parkland, Fla., the NYPD was removing Sgt. Raul Espinet from his post at Francis Lewis HS in Fresh Meadows, Queens — where he had worked for more than a dozen years. Parents, teachers and students are livid over the beloved cop’s departure.
“My colleagues think it’s outrageous — and really stupid,” teacher Arthur Goldstein said. “We’re not enthusiastic about arming teachers, but we liked having a cop around.”
Sessions calls on U.S. attorneys to aggressively prosecute gun buyers who lie on background checks – Now there’s a novel idea . . .
Attorney General Jeff Sessions announced Monday that U.S. attorneys will more aggressively enforce the law that makes it a crime for gun buyers to lie on their federal background checks, one of several steps Justice Department officials outlined as part of the Trump administration’s response to last month’s deadly school shooting in Parkland, Fla.
The Justice Department also will increase the presence of law enforcement officers at schools and continue to review the way law enforcement agencies respond to tips from the public, Sessions said.

The anti-gun crusaders have stooped to new lows; using our kids to try and push a hopeless agenda which will do absolutely nothing to keep them safe. As a mom, I am utterly and completely fed up with Hollywood starlets, manic-media, multimillionaires, and spineless politicians who attack the NRA and cry for more gun laws but never even consider discussing the root of the problem they have actually created.
On March 24th, youth from the Florida high school, where 14 students and three staff members were killed, will descend on Washington D.C. in yet another march protesting the constitution. Kids around the country are holding “walk outs” and “sit ins” demanding more gun laws, but they have no idea what they’re asking for. They have an excuse to walk out of class without getting in trouble because the adults aren’t acting like adults and telling them to get back to school.
Lawmakers put finishing touches on gun rights plan – Not all the gun rights news is negative . . .
Indiana lawmakers were putting the finishing touches Monday on legislation that would end licensing fees for handguns while allowing people to carry firearms in churches located on school grounds.
As this year’s legislative session entered its final days, lawmakers on both sides of the gun debate openly bickered with people who testified both for and against the bill during an intense joint committee meeting that included members of both the House and the Senate.
Law enforcement groups voiced serious concerns about the bill since license fees are a major source of funding for training, including active shooter responses training.

As gun control again overtakes the national conversation, Fall Out Boy and G-Eazy announced Monday that they will co-headline a Washington, D.C. concert, dubbed Stay Amped, that will benefit the gun-violence prevention groups Giffords and Everytown for Gun Safety Action Fund. After seeing how the students of Parkland, Florida’s Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School have rallied together to create a unified voice against gun violence, Fall Out Boy bassist Pete Wentz tells Rolling Stone that his band wanted to boost their signal.
“I think [the students’] first-person perspective is really powerful,” he says. “This is not a think tank or a lobby group – these are kids who have gone through what we are talking about. It’s powerful. Instead of the nation moving on this time, the kids are saying no. That’s something I want to be the soundtrack to.”

Many moderate gun activists also advocate for “common sense gun control,” including background checks and waiting periods for some varieties of firearms just to name a few, all of which have the goal of minimizing the number of guns in the public. However, there is little precedent to suggest the effectiveness of such policies. Studies have shown that there is practically no correlation whatsoever between gun ownership rates and crime rates between different states. In fact, many areas with incredibly strict gun laws like Chicago, Ill. or Baltimore, Md. still have some of the highest murder rates in the country. In addition, numerous states like Massachusetts and Connecticut have seen their homicide rates increase following the implementation of comprehensive gun control.
This may seem counterintuitive at first, but it makes sense when you consider the obvious truth that criminals inherently do not follow laws. This is evidenced by the fact that over 98 percent of mass shootings occur in gun-free zones — such as schools or churches — as opposed to areas with other armed citizens. By passing such legislation, the government is simply preventing law-abiding citizens from defending themselves, while criminals still have a myriad of illegal and unpreventable ways to obtain firearms. In addition, the advent of 3D printed firearms and other technologies in the future will also make it even easier for criminals to obtain weapons, making it even more important that citizens have the means to defend themselves.
