“If you don’t have a sword, sell your cloak and buy one,” Jesus once told his disciples. Also Jesus: “all who draw the sword will die by the sword” and “turn the other cheek.” These words exemplify the very different portraits of Jesus that Christians have when it comes to issues like gun control, gun rights, and self-defense.
Is it ethical to defend oneself or one’s family? Does Jesus want his people to be packing?
By the numbers only, most Christians support stricter gun control laws. According to a national tracking poll of Americans from Morning Consult—following the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School shooting in Parkland, Florida—approximately 62 percent of all Christians “strongly,” or “somewhat,” support “stricter gun control laws in the United States,” while 33 percent do not.

Little more than a month after lawmakers threw a temper tantrum about the cost of each M27 Infantry Automatic Rifle, the Marine Corps has announced it is buying the rifles at a much lower cost per weapon.
In total, the Marine Corps plans to buy 15,000 IARs for $29.4 million from Heckler and Koch over the next five years, Marine Corps Systems Command announced on Friday. Of those weapons, the first 5,660 will cost about $1,300 per weapon.
During a March House Armed Services Committee hearing, lawmakers claimed that the M27 would cost about $3,000 per rifle, or roughly four times the $642 per weapon price tag for the M4 carbine, which the IAR is replacing.
Woman found with gun during strip search pleads guilty

Anika Witt, 20, of Ozark, pleaded guilty to possession of a weapon by a felon and unlawful possession of a controlled substance. According to a prosecutor’s statement read in court in September, Witt was stopped Sept. 7 for speeding on Interstate 55 near Chenoa.
A search of the vehicle turned up heroin in her bra and ecstasy, said the statement.
After Witt was taken to the jail, a female correctional officer found a loaded Kimber .380-caliber handgun inside Witt’s body, said the prosecutor.

Parkland teen David Hogg attends the White House Correspondent’s dinner with fellow gun violence survivor and reveals they got six congressmen to sign ‘no NRA money’ pledge
We have no doubt David will make an ideal “journalist” by today’s standards . . .
Hogg has become one of the leading voices for gun control and a constant media presence since a shooting at Stoneman Douglas High School in Florida in February.
Personalities such as Democratic Ohio Rep. Tim Ryan and former Obama Ethics czar and CNN commentator Norm Eisen posed for pictures with the young activist.
‘We are counting on the next generation to lead us all—like David Hogg,’ Eisen wrote on Twitter.
Hogg has said he wants to be a journalist, and the Daily Beast’s editor in chief John Avlon said he was ‘delighted’ to have him as the publication’s guest at the event.

The purpose of the event was to remove unwanted and /or illegal firearms, multi burst trigger activators such as ‘bump stocks’ and ammunition from circulation.
Citizens were able to drop off firearms and ammunition with no questions asked.
The results of the effort produced the following results:
– 76 guns were turned in, including rifles and handguns
– Over 70,000 rounds of ammunition of various calibers were surrendered
– Several containers of gunpowder were turned in for destruction

For some social scientists, questions surrounding such incidents aren’t aimed at the Second Amendment. Rather, researchers want to understand why people, men in particular, feel a need to pack a firearm.
A sense of masculinity is a factor, leading to backlashes against gun control proposals, according to Jennifer Carlson, a University of Arizona sociologist.
“As they practiced shooting their firearms, they imagined scenarios in which women and children might need their help,” she has written of her research subjects. “A man with a rifle in a schoolyard full of kids; a woman being raped in an alley; an armed robber targeting a diner waitress.”
Alyssa Milano to Lead Protest at NRA Convention

Alyssa Milano is calling fellow activists to join her in Dallas, Texas, May 5 to protest Vice President Mike Pence and the NRA Annual Meetings.
The protest itself is one of the first orders of business for the newly launched #NoRA, the “No Rifle Association initiative.” #NoRA tweeted.
