A SIG SAUER Masterpiece: The Excalibur

SIG SAUER has been around for a while. Long enough, in fact, for their master gunsmiths to get a little…bored. And instead of doing what everyone else does when they’re bored (Reddit), SIG gave them a nearly unlimited budget and asked them to make something amazing. And man, they didn’t disappoint . . .

The Excalibur is one of the firearms in SIG’s “Masterpiece” line of firearms, guns specifically intended to show off the mastery of their in-house gunsmiths and how beautiful their iconic X-Five handgun can get. It’s kind of the same reason airlines have extravagant first class offerings: if the top-of-the-line stuff is this good, then just imagine how well they do the normal stuff. They can make one for you as well… if you have the cash to pay for it. This one handgun would retail for about $92,000, making it one of the most expensive handguns you can buy. The reason for the price comes not only from the remarkable craftsmanship of the gun, but also from the fact that the handle is made out of 100% real and legal ivory.

The sword along the top of the gun, made to look like a Damascus steel blade, is removable — and extremely sharp. Not your average letter opener.

The Excalibur is an absolutely beautiful piece of art, and that’s the problem: I could never fire it. I’d be scared that I’d scratch it.
