Question of the Day: Can God Fix This?

As you might expect, the notoriously anti-gun New York Daily News is in high dudgeon today following the San Bernardino massacre of 14 people by Farook and Tashfeen Malik. But rather than pin the shooting on the criminals (at least two of whose firearms were purchased legally under California’s famously restrictive gun control laws), the News is taking aim at…prayer. By way of shifting the responsibility . . .

onto Republicans and, sotto voce, the NRA, for their failure to enact more restrictive and unconstitutional gun control laws, the News has chosen to slam GOP politicians for offering “meaningless platitudes” instead of iron-fisted legislation. Never mind that Democrats held the presidency and both houses of Congress (with 60 Senate seats) for more than two years following President Obama’s first inaugural.

No, it’s much more satisfying — not to mention politically expedient — to put the blame on your ideological opponents, especially in the run-up to an election in which your party’s likely presidential candidate is, um, less than ideal. So spare us your thoughts and prayers, the News says. God has nothing to do with this. Are they right?
