News flash: the LA Times has discovered the Pink Pistols… Going against the grain after Orlando shooting, LGBT group embraces guns – “Jonathan Fischer is never sure who’s going to be more surprised when he, as he likes to put it, comes out of the gun closet — the gun aficionados who find out he’s gay or the gay friends who find out he likes shooting guns. When the 38-year-old television editor showed up last month to a defensive handgun class near Piru with a Glock 27 pistol on his hip, he wore a T-shirt sporting a rainbow-colored AK-47. His ‘gay-K-47,’ he said.”

The Cult of Guns in America – “’The NRA derives its power not only from its funding,’ Henigan said, ‘but also due to the intensity of its hard-core supporters.’ And the NRA works hard to inculcate those supporters with what Henigan calls ‘the slippery slope’ myth — which holds that any regulation on guns, even the most modest, is a first step toward confiscation of all of them. The NRA’s hold on its grass roots also keeps gunmakers who might be inclined to compromise on gun control in line, Henigan said: ‘They’re terrified of the NRA’s power over their own consumers.’” And may it ever be thus.

Tactical Walls Issue Box – Okay, so you’re right in the middle of a good cry during “The Bridges of Madison County” and some bad guy has the nerve to attempt to break into your house. Rather than dash over to the gun safe in the corner, though, you continue to reach for a tissue…

When everyone has a gun, no one is in control: Brie Larson Breaks Free from ‘Room’ with Guns Blazing in ‘Free Fire’ Trailer – “The trailer for one of Brie Larson’s first films after winning a best-actress Oscar has finally arrived, and it couldn’t be any more different from Room. Free Fire is a gun-glorifying action movie that seems to be about a gun sale gone wrong. Suddenly, everyone’s weapons are drawn, and it turns into a violent showdown, bullets flying through the air with reckless abandon. Everything goes down in a single warehouse; it’s nice to see that Larson has been upgraded from a single, tiny room to a very, very big room.” Thank God for Netflix.

The fight continues in the People’s Republic: Can Madison ban guns from buses? – “Wisconsin gun rights advocates get their chance Friday to persuade the state Supreme Court that Madison can’t ban weapons from its city buses. Thomas Waltz and Wisconsin Carry, Inc. sued the city back in 2014 after it refused to change its rule against guns on its Metro Transit buses. The plaintiffs argue that Wisconsin’s Act 35, the state’s concealed carry law, preempts any local government from imposing stricter regulations on when and where license holders may take their guns.”

PITTSBURGH – September 9, 2016 – Cabot Guns, America’s premiere maker of high-quality handguns, announced today that it is releasing a South Paw S-100 Edition, a fully inverted stainless steel pistol designed for left-handed shooters. The new gun is a complete mirror image of the company’s popular 1911 pistol. It features a left-handed ejection port, left-handed thumb safety, left-handed slide stop and left-handed mag release. Cabot is the world’s only producer of left-handed 1911 style handguns.

A watchdog watching the watchers: Watchdog criticizes ATF gun sale stings – “A watchdog report released Thursday is raising new concerns about the Justice Department’s response to the ‘Operation Fast and Furious’ gun-tracking scandal. The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) has failed to fix the problems with its gun-tracking operations and should consolidate the number of storefronts where undercover federal agents sell guns to criminals in stings, according to the DOJ inspector general.”

Armed robbers point guns at Buddhist monks while making off with temple’s donation boxes – “Cambodian monks in Tacoma had a harrowing experience last week when two armed robbers put guns to their heads and made off with donation boxes. They say two young men broke into the Khmer Theravadin Buddhist temple just before midnight on Sept. 1 and were making off with the two large donation boxes when the burglary was interrupted by the temple caretaker.” Fortunately, Washington state is making it harder for lawful gun owners to arm themselves all the time, so this kind of thing shouldn’t be a problem much longer.
