Former Reagan press secretary and long-time gun control advocate James Brady, whose shooting during a 1981 assassination attempt spawned the eponymous Brady Campaign to Prevent Handgun Violence, died today at age 73 of what his family’s statement called “a series of health issues.” NBC News had the family’s full statement via Twitter (after the jump).
