Maryland Incident Deflates ‘No Guns in School’ Argument – Which is exactly why this story’s disappeared from the news so quickly . . .

Tuesday morning’s school shooting incident in Maryland that left the teen gunman dead after being confronted by an armed school resources officer (SRO) dramatically undermines the argument from anti-gunners that armed security in schools is a bad idea.

The shooter, identified as 17-year-old Austin Wyatt Rollins, was reportedly chased down by St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Deputy Blaine Gaskill. Each reportedly fired one shot in their confrontation at Great Mills High School. The community is about 60 miles southeast from Washington, D.C.

A 16-year-old female and 14-year-old male student were both wounded in the initial shooting after Rollins allegedly pulled a handgun and opened fire.

Maryland has some of the strictest gun laws in the United States. It is extremely difficult, and often impossible, for most adults to get a carry license. The teen gunman violated several existing laws by bringing a gun onto a school campus, carrying it illegally and opening fire.

John Gunn, the father, posted the confrontation at Ventura Unified School District with principal Barbara Boggio on Facebook.

“I want to know who authorized these kids to go out and leave the class when I wasn’t even notified about it,” he said to the school’s principal.

She responded, “As our school planned for who and what, we anticipated something…”

Gunn interrupted asking, “6th graders? 6th graders? When do 6th graders make decisions?”

Teen Arrested After Bringing Loaded Gun to School: Sources – This has to be #fakenews. Didn’t this kid know that it’s illegal for an underage yoot to possess a handgun in the city of New York? . . .

A 15-year-old student at a Brooklyn high school has been arrested after police say he brought a loaded 22-caliber gun to school Tuesday, sources say.

It’s not clear how he came into possession of the gun or how authorities at Midwood High School discovered he had it; police responded to the school after getting a call about it.

The teen was speaking with police at the 70th Precinct stationhouse for processing, the sources said.

Midwood High School does not have metal detectors.

3 Men With Assault Rifle, Handgun and Machete Went Shopping at Walmart, Police Say – No, that’s not the beginning of a joke . . .

The states of Georgia and Mississippi have open-carry laws, meaning licensed gun owners can go around in public displaying their weapons. But businesses still have the right to prohibit weapons on their property.

That’s what happened in a Mississippi Walmart Monday night after three Georgia men went shopping while openly carrying an M-4 assault rifle, a handgun and a machete.

The Commercial Dispatch reports that a Walmart employee called police and then managers asked the men to leave once officers arrived.

Potential For Gun Law Changes Remains Unclear Following Parkland Shooting – The best part: this is from NPR, so you paid for it . . .

The National Rifle Association is facing persistent backlash following the school shooting in Parkland, Florida. But it’s not clear what, if any, real federal changes will come out the Florida tragedy.

Shooter’s caretaker raised concerns with police over his guns – And she hired publicity lawyer Gloria Allred to make sure the world knows how emotionally destroyed she really is. Look for her upcoming memoir, ‘My Nikolas Cruz Nightmare,’ coming to Amazon or a Barnes & Noble near you soon. . .

Deschamps said her family made three 911 calls during that time. She raised concerns about Cruz owning a gun and also told police Cruz had once put a gun to the head of his mother and brother. Each time, police told her there was nothing they could do about her concerns, she said.

“I did everything I could to warn law enforcement about [what] could happen,” she told reporters in a news conference with celebrity attorney Gloria Allred. “I wanted to protect not only my children but also everyone else who might be at risk of being … harmed.”

New Florida gun law used on brother of Parkland school shooter – Zachary can thank Nikolas for the loss of his guns when he sees him in the slammer . . .

Cruz’s defense attorney argued in court that his client was being punished for his brother’s crime with a $500,000 bond, when the amount is usually $25 for misdemeanor trespassing.

On the same day, the Broward County Sheriff’s Office filed the risk protection order to restrict his access to guns using a part of the new Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School Public Safety Act, which went into effect earlier this month.

If the risk protection order is granted, “it will prohibit Cruz from possessing and acquiring firearms for a period of time to be determined by the court,” according to the Broward County Sheriff’s Office.

YouTube Bans Firearms Demo Videos, Entering the Gun Control Debate – Yeah, they “entered” it a long time ago with their arbitrarily applied policies . . .

YouTube will ban videos that promote or link to websites selling firearms and accessories, including bump stocks, which allow a semi-automatic rifle to fire faster. Additionally, YouTube said it will prohibit videos with instructions on how to assemble firearms. The video site, owned by Alphabet Inc.’s Google, has faced intense criticism for hosting videos about guns, bombs and other deadly weapons.

For many gun-rights supporters, YouTube has been a haven. A current search on the site for “how to build a gun” yields 25 million results, though that includes items such as toys. At least one producer of gun videos saw its page suspended on Tuesday. Another channel opted to move its videos to an adult-content site, saying that will offer more freedom than YouTube.

“We routinely make updates and adjustments to our enforcement guidelines across all of our policies,” a YouTube spokeswoman said in a statement. “While we’ve long prohibited the sale of firearms, we recently notified creators of updates we will be making around content promoting the sale or manufacture of firearms and their accessories.”
