So now you know. If you own a Mosin-Nagant rifle – a firearm that finds favor amongst TTAG’s Armed Intelligentsia – you own a “fetish rifle for hardcore inurrectionists.” I’m not entirely sure what the Campaign to Stop Gun Violence means by “hardcore.” Something to do with the Mosin-Nagant’s stout recoil? As for “insurrectionists,” that’s easy! That’s what the CSGV calls anyone who shares Sam Adams beer. I mean, Samuel Adams’ view that . . .

The Constitution shall never be construed to prevent the people of the United States who are peaceable citizens from keeping their own arms.

Yes, peaceable. Until, God forbid, they are forced to defend their lives and liberty from criminals or their own government. Make of that you will. We know what the CSGV makes of it: justification to degrade and destroy Americans’ natural, civil and Constitutionally protected right to keep and bear arms.

Insurrectionist

As for the CSGV’s press release, which labeled the above protest an example of “intimidation” – I’ll let Thomas Jefferson’s letter to James Madison on January 30, 1787 have the last word: “I prefer dangerous freedom over peaceful slavery.”

Too much? It is for you-know-who. For you?

  1. Considering that the Mosin rifle served as a Stalinist tool for so many years, I’m surprised that the CSGV tools don’t swoon with delight whenever they see one.

    • Oh their problem isn’t with the rifle, its with the fact that its not State-owned and being shared by ten people at once, with a CSGV-approved officer executing the more reluctant of the group with his pistol.

    • People like you need to stop with that BS. Comparing the American disarmament side to Stalinist is pure ignorance. It’s ignorant hyperbole that doesn’t help us in the rational defense of our rights. Stop being such a fool and labeling anyone who isn’t hardcore right wing as stalinists. It’s just as ignorant as them labeling people like you fascists.

      • You are the fool. Anyone who has studied history, particularly Military History understands that those you defend and who rabidly oppose the 2nd Amendment are nothing more than Socialists and/or Communists, and possibly a mix of both since even they have no idea what they are talking about and lie with each breath. The military refer to these type of human beings as oxygen thieves and for good reason. They will NEVER admit this in public, but that is exactly what they are.

      • Sarcasm tag is your friend 2maik7. Without such a device, people might think you’re serious.

Progressives are very much like Stalinists. They are generally the most supportive of abortion which has murdered 50 million babies and counting, just like Stalin murdered around 50 million of his comrades.

        • Ah, the irony of this post. I assume you’re anti-abortion. Did you know that Stalin was, too? Fun fact: when Bolsheviks came to power, they legalized abortion shortly after, becoming the first country to do so (after having laws banning it on the books – some countries never criminalized it in the first place). Then at the height of Stalin’s power, in 1936, they were criminalized in their entirety, and that didn’t change until after his death, in 1955.

He also criminalized homosexuality (same story: Bolsheviks made it legal initially, Stalin banned it again in 1934).

Comrade Stalin was a model conservative in many respects indeed. Enjoy the company 😉

        • If you understood Conservatism, you’d know not to bother with what you just said. We can tell that your bothered by it, but you don’t really know why, and it’s eating you.

        • Joe R wouldn’t know an actual conservative if they whacked his head with a hammer.

Actual conservatives worry about conserving natural resources, not messing with other people’s ideals until it actually harms them and the lot.

Joe diRt, is a religious idiot who actually believes the nonsense he’s spoonfed. Just like Muslim terrorists.

        • Like I said, you’re bothered by it, you don’t know why, and it’s eating you. But you go after me.

I think the word you’re looking for is conservation / conservationist – the real ones believe in Democracy (not (D)emocrat) thinking, and, of those, that believe in Capitalism, and GOD, get the job done. The other idiots sell you bumper stickers, smoke pot, and don’t pay [much] in taxes.

      • No, it’s not. As the descendant of Stalin’s victims, I can tell you that any who would approve of civilian disarmament deserve to be in his company.

      • Lenin:pro gun control
        Stalin:pro gun control
        Hitler:pro gun control
        Mao:pro gun control
        Pol Pot:pro gun control

Democrats? Oh yeah, pro gun control

        • Aussie’s – (strangely) into gun control
Brits – (doomed as they are) into gun control

DGAF if it’s everybody but me.

I’ll personally drag all you mf’s back from the brink.

If it’s ever just me. . . just shoot me.

        • Nixon- Pro gun control
          Reagan- Pro gun control
John McCain- Pro Gun Control (Toomey Manchin)
          NRA- once favored gun control
Probably 75% of the clowns in DC regardless of party would disarm the public if they could get away with it.

        • Here we go, ya, all the same. Our guys are just as bad except your guys are worse. Reagan was just Conservative enough.

      • @2maik7, nice of you to take time off from your game of pocket pool to post a comment. You must be on your third rack by now.

      • I agree. But I also think that they are hopelessly naive. It’s better not to waste time on them, and try to win favor with people who will actually listen.

      • You’re right. Most of them aren’t Stalinists. They are useful idiots that support Stalinists. Not that that makes them any better.

      • There is going to be more and more idiots like 2maik7 posting at TTAG as we get closer to next years elections. Ugh.

      • Speaking of ignorance, put a sock in it. Statists are as statists do. Whether Stalinist, Maoist, Fascist or straight-up Nazi, disarmament is the first and most important step to totalitarianism.

    • I just love holding my Mosin knowing it was used to put nazis out of this world’s misery. I would love to do the same thing with a Garand but that is out of my price range for know.

  2. Ooohh yeah…. Now. Pull that bolt back. Nice and slow. Ooohh yeah, it’s a [uuugghh]… sticky bolt isn’t it? Ooh yeah.

Is that… cosmoline? Oooooohhhhhh ooohhhh ooohhhhh!

  3. “Hardcore insurrectionists”? I picked a couple Nuggets up when they were still going for about $120 each. Nice rifles.

    • Wait, wait wait … this can’t be. They only want the scary-looking semi-fully-automatic machine guns that take 30 caliber magazine clips that shoot 50 calibers per second with a shoulder thing that goes up. I have it on damn good authority they’re not interested in taking away sensible, reasonable, common-sense rifles to protect our second amendment right to hunt and be sportsmen with antique bolt action rifles with wooden stocks. THEY PROMISED!

        • now now then, the quality of workmanship is from “poor” to “wow it still works”. This is a fact, no getting around it. Now I tend to look at these 4 items when evaluating a gun. Workmanship, cost to buy, cost to feed & reliability.

So, 3 out of 4 aint bad, and the total cost for a rifle and 440 rounds of fire belching, shoulder thumping, corrosive primed steel cased is still under $300. Tent stake included!

        • Your results may vary, but I’ve yet to come across a bad example. I’ve seen some pretty abused rifles, all are over (or nearly) 100 years old and they can sling lead better than most people can shoot them.

If you don’t like the 7.62x54R, just know that it’s much worse on the receiving end.

        • If you want quality of workmanship in a Mosin, you can have it: just get a Finn.

Some Yugo M44 refurbs are pretty nice, too.

        • tell you what ,, i dont want to be downrange from one of those pieces of shit ,, i scoffed my friends ,,we took his out to the range and he started banging plates at distances the old rust pole should not have been able to hit at ,he was marine trained ,, but i found a sako model 39 ,and that is also a solid shooter ,,weve got all the neat newer pieces ,but those things are just a blast .

      • $120 is a load of fantasy crap. You can’t pick up an even decent Mosin for under $250. An acceptable pre WWII import with matching numbers and no import marks starts at $400….

        • You’re starting to be right about those prices, and it won’t be long before that’s the case everywhere.

I picked up my first (of three. Hardcore, yo.) Mosin for $99 maybe 5 years ago, and I sure as hell wish I’d been able to swing the cash to buy a whole case like I wanted. I saw the writing on the wall, I just couldn’t afford to make the investment.

And, let’s face it, it was impossible to sell my wife on the idea.

Maybe I should show her how much they’re going for these days and tell her how right I was… HA! Hahahahaha! Woo. I’m funny.

        • Once again, whatever. Please do go on armslist, gunbroker, or wherever you buy firearms. Find anything that even goes bang for $120, and get back to me. A single shot shottie goes for north of $100.

You are living 20 years ago.

        • Barrels of late WWII trash for $120, so what? They’ll barely hit the broadside of a barn, who cares? Certainley not a M-N collector.

    • I got mine when they were selling for $35-50, SK’s were $75-100 and AK’s were $225-275. The fact that I parted with $35 for mine doesn’t make me a hard core insurrectionist, but it does strongly indicate that I’m tight with a dollar.

  4. I was never totally sure why I felt compelled to by one(ish) of them but now I know. Thanks CSGV for clearing that up for me.

  5. So a C&R eligible rifle is now a fetish rifle? I mean it isn’t wrapped in leather or have a flogger strapped to it!
Every day I think they can’t get any dumber, then you have to go and prove me wrong!

  6. Wait– I thought the ARs and such were the weapons of choice for insurrectionists. They are trying to demonize a bolt-action rifle with a five-round fixed magazine? They have really devolved into no-foolin’ barking moonbats, haven’t they?

    • They devolved into barking moonbats decades ago, and they’re STILL devolving. I opened my fridge the other day and a moldy leftover near the back was waving a CSGV sign… 😉

    • “They [gun-grabbers] have really devolved into no-foolin’ barking moonbats, haven’t they?”

No, not really. Rather, they revealed their true agenda: to demonize and criminalize ownership of ALL firearms, even 100 year old bolt-action firearms.

Every once in a while, they let their mask slip a little.

    • Remember: when Bolsheviks did their bloody revolution, they were armed with, guess what?

      Mosins!

You don’t want a communist revolution, do you?

      [/sarcasm]

  7. I’m a fetishist and an insurrectionist? Does this mean I have to wear assless chaps when the apocalypse, shtf, civil war starts?

  8. Pfft, Mosin Nagant is a garbage rifle that neckbeards buy because anything more expensive cuts into their Mountain Dew and Doritos allowance budget.

      • He is right though…Mosin are garbage. I prefer ANY of my other old milsurp rifles to the long ago sold 3 or 4 MNS I have had over the last 30 years. The neatest one I owned was a Great War vet with the Imperial Russian seal on it (too dangerous to fire it)

    • The Mosin-Nagant is NOT a garbage rifle. Nicely preserved examples of this weapon provide not only fun and accurate shooting but can also put food on the table for those who don’t have large budgets. The 7.62x54R cartridges are plentiful and cheap. 440 Spam cans can be stored literally forever. My first can was manufactured in Russia in 1912. Quite the treat to open up that crate! These rifles have served honorably in several conflicts and represent an interesting time in firearms history. I searched long and hard for my first Mosin; a 1917 Remington M91. I have been tracing the arsenal markings and I know it was delivered to Russia and most likely was used during the February Revolution. Somehow it made it to Finland and was also in service during the Winter War 1939-1940. It also likely was used during WWII but I have no idea how it made it back to the US. Certainly this rifle is never going into the garbage sir.

    • Please refrain from insulting “retards”, er the “developmentally disabled” I mean “Liberals” hell the people with Downs Syndrome I’ve worked with are far more intelligent than ANY Democrat/Progressive I’ve encountered

  9. And I was allowed to bring mine into my school to show off in the Russian classes. Good thing I didn’t attempt to declare the classroom a sovereign nation!

  10. That’s it. I have resisted for years and my son, who is an avid supporter of Mossies has told mne I am wrong so now I have to go out and get one.

I really wanted a Yugo M48 but it’s important that i show up on a “list”.

heaven knows I am already listed on every other Government list.

    • If you want to really stick it to them, pay a bit extra and get an antique “ghost gun”. There are usually a few on sale on GunBroker on any given day. If you luck out, you can find a relatively recent Finnish Mosin built on an antique receiver – this is like the best of both world, more ergonomic furniture, better sights and much better trigger, and usually very good condition, but it’s still legally not a firearm in most states.

      • You got the much better trigger part right! My unmodified Finn M-39 pulls at 2lbs 2oz and feels lighter than that. I need to put one of those Rock Solid scope mounts on it to make up for my vision but even without it shoots really well, especially for an old gun. Yeah I have a modern 308 bolt gun that out shoots it a bunch, but I run better ammo in it.

  11. for me the mosin was more marijuana. it was the gateway gun. the first of my collection, (and still one of my favorites) it now sits in the safe nestled between the FAL and the garand.

  12. I guess my Lee-Enfield must be an “assault fetish rifle for hardcore insurrectionists.” what with it’s high capacity (10) clip thingy, bayonet lug and shoulder thing that goes up!

  13. “…anyone who shares Sam Adams’ beer.”

I searched the story for anyone named Sam Adams, and didn’t see any. So why the possessive? It’s used correctly the second time, but the beer is named “Sam Adams”, not “Sam Adams'”. Sure it seems nit-picking, but it’s flat-out incorrect in the first usage. I would only be “Sam Adams’ beer” if there was someone actually named “Sam Adams” in the story.”

    Make sense?

    • Meh, petty point.

More interesting is any reference to Sam Adams’ legal interpretation of the Constitution, as ratified. You see, Sam Adams didn’t sign the Constitution. He didn’t even attend the Constitutional Convention. (Neither did Jefferson, for that matter.)

  14. My opinion is that the m/n is so popular , is that all the other ww2 rifles have disappeared or have risen in price. I really don’t think your average gun “nut” gives much thought to Marxist-Leninism.

  15. Having used the majority of primary bolt-action service rifles in competition, I only use the Mosin-Nagants (1938 M91/30 and 1945 M44) at 100 metres. The coarse sights, mushy trigger, and clunky bolt-action are serious impediments to decent scores.

Give me a Mauser 98 or M48, or even better a Lee-Enfield No4 and I’ll show you some serious shooting.

    • I routinely hit beer cans at 100M on open sights with my Izhevsk 1917 Mosin. Perhaps it’s operator training, or you bought a junk MN.

  16. Lols, the harder they squeeze, the more slips through their finders… Keep it up, anti-gun dickbags. You’re doing a better job of turning people to the pro-gun side than pro-gunners! Keep up with your blatantly hateful inflammatory rhetoric…

And no joke, this sat on the shelf in the Wal Mart sporting goods section next to the CLP for months before anyone figured it out: https://www.gunoil.com/img/product_all_gel.png

  17. Now I’m going to go buy two just because this loser had dumb things to say about it, lols! And another 80% ghost AR-15. And another brick of .223 for it…

  18. I always wondered how they were going to demonize a bolt-action, near-antique rifle with iron sights. I guess now I know.

  19. I have a Mosin, with all the original Soviet Socialist accouterments.

So . . . . does that make me A Conservative trouble maker, or a hero of the people?

    I’m confused.

    • Either way, your secret is safe with us, including your terrible loss of the aforementioned accoutrements in that terrible fire at sea.

    • Here, here. I own two. Far more accurate than an AK and arguably equally as reliable. I switched the stock on one of them for a Tapco Woodsman hunting stock. I plugged the original box magazine so it only holds 4 rounds and use it for deer hunting quite often. Yeah, it’s a bit heavy, but for shots up to 100 yards who needs a scope?

  20. The irony is this guy likely chose the Mosin Nagant because he was thoughtfully trying not to scare gun grabbers sensibilities if he brought an AR15. It’s a no-win situation with those guys.

  21. Semi-auto, detachable mag w/ capacity over 10 rounds? Ban it!

Bolt action, non-detachable mag w/o capacity over 10 rounds? Ban it!

    • What about single shots. Don’t you know you can reload it quickly and fire one whole round before reloading. I can’t imagine how they would make a case for banning those.

  22. CSGV is going after bolt action rifles now??? This, to me, is proof that they are against ALL guns.

Either that, or maybe they don’t know that a M91/30 is functionally no different than your typical bolt action hunting rifle, and is, in fact, a great hunting rifle in its own right (One of the ladies on Life Below Zero hunts caribou with one). They’re either radically anti-gun or extremely stupid.

Hopefully this will get the fudds’ attention, and maybe they will join the NRA.

Keep up the great work guys.

Gun control means using both hands.

  23. I checked. In the last 10 years I’ve purchased a total of 26 91/30s. Almost all of those were by the case when they were only $60 per rifle.
I gave all but two of them away. And, wait for it…to people who never filled out a background check.
    Er. Mu. Gerd.
I’ve armed the insurrection. Somebody owes me a beer.

  24. I am an establishment guy who thinks John Boehner is cool. That’s why I carry a Mauser 98. Deitches Ordnung and all of that.

  25. Insurrection comrade? I could have bought one for $69 at Cabelas Black Friday 4 years ago. Little did I know it would be revolutionary…

  26. There are two types of guns in this world: guns that csgv wants to ban, and guns they haven’t heard of yet.

Not csgv, but Rep Dan Frankel (D, of course) wants to start banning – I mean regulating – cap and ball revolvers.

  27. So, since I own two Mosin-Nagants does that mean I’m twice as hard-core? What about a Nagant revolver, does that add some hard-coreness?

  28. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

This is the funniest thing I’ve read in a long time!

    HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

My sides! You’ve killed me! TOO DAMN FUNNY!

    HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

  29. Here’s the thing, they don’t realize just what they have revealed. Before what they were targeting was mainly firearms that looked like modern military issue battle weapons. To most the Mosin Nagant looks a lot like their grandfather’s deer rifle. It is a low capacity, bolt action (not automatic or even semi-auto) that isn’t really that different from traditional looking hunting rifles. They have revealed what most of us already knew or suspected, that they don’t want anyone to have any firearms. Their divide and conquer strategy (“Nobody needs an AR with 30 rounds to go deer hunting!”) to get hunters to agree to “reasonable” or “common sense” gun control laws should fall on deaf ears because they’re coming for those hunting rifles too.

  30. Good proof that it isnt just about the scary lookin guns, its all guns. Not that we didnt already know that 🙂

But its a weapon of war, oh that bayonet /clutchpearls

  31. Why does it always come down to fetishes with these people? It’s like they have a fetish for fetishes.

    Different strokes for different fo’ks I guess…

And I guess I’m a hardcore insurrectionist. Boy, I’m glad somebody informed me, I had no idea!

    • Why does it come down to fetishes? Really simple, they are secretly in their bedrooms at night, flipping through ragged dog eared Guns and Ammo magazines using Ballistol for-oh wait never mind, this is a family site.

  32. Of all the old military bolt actions, the Mosin-Nagant is the crudest. I bought mine, because, for $80, how could you not? But I’d rather have a Springfield, Lee-Enfield or Mauser. But I didn’t know enough to buy them when they were dirt cheap. I did pick up a couple Norinco SKSes back in the day when they were cheap, though!

But for an insurrectionist? I’ll take my AR, thanks.

I think they mentioned the Mosin-Nagant, because, c’mon, they’re liberals. They feel proud of themselves because they can name a gun besides an AK-47, an AR-15 or a Glock 7 (the ones that are invisible to airport scanners and cost more than you make in a month!).

      • They can have my thing that goes up when they pry it from my cold, dead shoulder!

I note, also: that guy in the photo isn’t a true Mosin-Nagant fetishizing insurrectionist. I see no sign of a tactical Mosin-Nagant action assist tool (a.k.a., a 2×4).

    • If you want a really fine vintage bolt-action battle rifle, get something Swiss. K31 or K11. Best trigger on a military rifle ever, and they’re scary accurate. And not all that expensive, either.

  33. Geez, and I thought my AR with multiple 60 round mags and 100 rounds drums was fetish enough. Dammit, now I gotta buy some crap bolt action relic.

  34. Wow. The CSGV folks have really lost it.

But that’s okay. At this point they’re more like a recruiting tool for the pro-gun position; most people can’t get away from that kind of crazy fast enough, and the more prudent ones will want a firearm of their own in case the CSGV contingent can’t contain its own crazy.

  35. I was at a gathering over the weekend where several self identified Democratic Socialists stated the following:

The Second Amendment is not an individual right
An adversarial process where the accused has the right to competent counsel and a jury is not necessary to remove someones rights
No one wants to take your guns
    Veterans do not deserve benefits

When I asked what they would do if an armed intruder tried to get into their house, they all confirmed they would call 911 and wait for armed police officers to arrive. When asked about citizens who did not have access to armed police in a short enough time to save their lives, they had no answer except they were certain no one needs guns
I asked them if they would put a sign in their yard declaring it a gun free zone. No one had the courage of their convictions
I called them all Communists and wished them well when that armed intruder arrived at their house

  36. Feel free to call me a hard core insurrectionist because it is true that there is only so far that I can be pushed and so much freedom they are allowed to destroy, before I will give up on the electoral process and start organizing or assisting with organizing a second American Revolution. Of course, by then it likely wouldn’t be needed because they will have destroyed our currency and economy to the point that the government will have no money to pursue tyranny. Unless Iran gets us first.

  37. I want a Mosin-Nagant, and an M1 Garand, purely for their historical meaning. The history of firearms is fascinating, and remembering American history in the context of the firearms used to protect and to defend our liberty is a powerful lesson.

CSGV, as usual, can piss off.

    • I recently found a Remington 1917 M91 with quite an interesting history. I have not found any Westinghouse manufactured Mosins, yet, but the search continues. These are great shooters and make for interesting mantle conversation pieces.

    • Only in that it’s so easy for the bolts to come out of those. If he’s careful not to snag the trigger, no big deal.

I know in sporting clays, carrying with an open breach is required around the course as a “my gun is safe” verification. If he’s used to that, he may just be intending to be polite — displaying that the gun isn’t loaded.

    • If I was going to open carry in a non-threatening manner that’s how I’d do it. Not that with “these people” you can even be non-threatening.

  38. I thought the socialist liked fetishes people? I use to watch them march around San Francisco all the time. Some of them had objects protruding from their bodies. I don’t think they were firearms though.

  39. “…fetish rifle for hardcore inurrectionists.”

    I have a theory.

Somebody somewhere spent some time making a list of all the words that have negative connotations. Then all those words were given a score based on how negative they sounded. Then all those words were given a bonus score based on their ‘trigger’ or insult value. For example, Socialist has a very low score on its own but a very high trigger value when combined with other words like ‘F*&ing’ or ‘Stupid.’

All of this was then programmed into an application where you could give the program a noun, a desired insult score, and poof…. an insulting phrase is formed. Tell it Rifle, set the score for a modest 65 (out of 100) and the little whirly-gig spins for a minute and then it offers you a few choices, like “fetish rifle for hardcore inurrectionists” or “Bible-Clinging Penis impaired Manboys” or the ever insulting “NRA Death Dealing Domestic Terrorists.”

I imagine it is called iAlinsky or something similar. It may not be in the app store but if you ask around I am sure someone could send you the link.

    Its just a theory.

  40. I have one. 1942. I refurbished the Walnut stock. Not the most accurate rifle I own, but DAMN it is fun to shoot!
P.S. Put a LimbSaver on it. I did.

  41. Damn, I just traded mine for a shotgun. Now I’ve got to hit a gun show. Actually, It wasn’t that great of an example, I think I made out on the deal. I might be looking for a Swiss K31 to replace it though.

  42. Maybe they are right. There are 80,000,000 estimated gun owners. If 1% of them own a Mosin and have 1 spam can (440) rounds in reserve then there are 800,000 Mosins with 352 million rounds. The numbers just get better:
    Total Mosins Total Rounds
    2% 1,600,000 704,000,000
    3% 2,400,000 1,056,000,000
    4% 3,200,000 1,408,000,000
    5% 4,000,000 1,760,000,000
    6% 4,800,000 2,112,000,000
    7% 5,600,000 2,464,000,000
    8% 6,400,000 2,816,000,000
    9% 7,200,000 3,168,000,000
    10% 8,000,000 3,520,000,000

  43. “Insurrectionist” – that’s a mistake, twice.

I do no think that word means what they think it means. The “insurrectionist” is the one who *doesn’t bother* to show up at a political meeting to *talk* about things.

The other mistake is “insurrection” is generally illegal. Accusing someone of a crime, in print, knowing it isn’t true, is … well, that’s an actual crime. Might not win the defamation suit, but being Not a Public Figure(tm) the freedom to slander is a bit less. Also, The Process is the Punishment(tm) as someone noted. Lovely news organization there, taking sides in stories it covers, and with falsehoods, which malign people, too. You can say that with impunity. In terms of slander, the truth is a complete defense … or put another way, you aren’t required to keep other people’s guilty secrets.

I am not a lawyer. Nor do I play one on the internet. I do think a slander suit in this instance would be massively entertaining, and an effective form of political action. Also, justified on the merits. So, a three-fer.
