I'm wondering if the authorities have considered pesticides Even better, why not just spray them with something like Malathion. You know, if word got out that there was a "killer crop" (and not the good kind) and the government is/was/always shall be held blameless for actions taken to stem illegal drugs, maybe the buyers would be wary of buying poisoned dope.
