You may recall that Surgeon General Vivek Murthy [not shown] famously declared “gun violence” is a “public health issue.” When the founder of Doctors for Obama opened that front in the war against gun rights, the civilian disarmament industrial complex rushed in. The pro-gun side continues to counter this “Doctor knows best, so get rid of your guns” strategy by pointing out that . . .

A) screw you, and B) the number of Americans killed by medical malpractice dwarfs the number of firearms-related deaths. usnews.com reports that Dr. Murthy is channeling his inner Edith Piaf, publicly recognizing the fact that the Docs Against GLOCKs routine isn’t moving the needle on gun control. “He also credited his fiancee Alice Chen for helping him cope.” Bless his heart. Anyway . . .

The antis – including our good friend Mike “The Gun Guy” Weisser” – haven’t dropped the “guns as a public health crisis” strategy. Why would they? They need something to feed the mainstream media whenever someone shoots someone, or, even better, a lot of someones.

Normally, the media tries to appear objective when they play the “guns as a public health crisis” strategy by, you know, offering an alternative view. Not so Yahoo Health in their post, Texas Murders Expose Fatal Link Between Gun Sales Loopholes and Domestic Violence. The piece could have been written by anti-ballistic billionaire bully boy Michael Bloomberg’s Everytown for Gun Safety. It more-or-less was.

No surprise there. Yahoo Health contributing writer Jennifer Gerson Uffalussy’s Twitter bio reveals “I write about reproductive + women’s health/policy for @YahooHealth; women’s issues for @ThisIsFusion; feminism + pop culture for @guardianUS.” Lacking any insight into gun rights or (apparently) access to Google, Ms. Uffalussy turns into a Bloombergian parrot. Like this:

Leaving, unfortunately, still wasn’t enough to save Valerie Jackson and her family, largely because of the current loopholes that exist around online gun sales and background checks. According to Everytown for Gun Safety, one in thirty people who are able to buy guns online should be prohibited from owning guns due to their criminal records.

“Anybody can go online and arrange to purchase a gun from an unlicensed seller,” Soto Lamb explains, “Criminals and other people know that they can do this and skip the background check requirement that they would have to go through in a store,” Erika Soto Lamb, Communications Director for Everytown for Gun Safety, tells Yahoo Health.

Jackson’s death was the ninth in Texas since 2009 involving domestic violence. The presence of a gun in a domestic violence situation increases the likelihood that the women will be killed by 500 percent; in states that require background checks on all handgun sales, 46 percent fewer women are killed, according to Soto Lamb.

Which is why Everytown for Gun Safety, as well as numerous other advocate groups, are so focused on lobbying for laws to close the loopholes around online gun sales and background checks.

If that’s not the laziest example of mainstream media anti-gun agitprop then Barbara Palvin is about to make me French toast. Five links to Everytown in four paragraphs? That’s gotta be a new record, albeit a broken one. Uffalussy’s article is based entirely around Lamb’s spoon-fed misdirection, mischaracterization and outright lies on the subject of “gun violence.” And so Uffalussy gives Lamb the last word, including a final shot of linky love for Everytown.

Which is exactly why Soto Lamb and her colleagues are working to ensure that convicted criminals and those with a history of domestic violence can no longer purchase a gun online without a background check — something federal law currently does not prevent.

“Are some people going to find a way around it?” asks Soto Lamb, “Yes. But we are a nation of laws and when it comes to guns, we don’t have the stoplight in place to save lives from gun violence. We need to put pressure on Washington to close the background check loophole with online gun sales and private dealers.”

Remind me again how ANY of this is a health care-related issue. And while you’re at it, will someone remind Yahoo that shilling for an organization dedicated to degrading and destroying Americans’ natural, civil and Constitutionally protected right to keep and bear arms will not endear them to the majority of their readers? Thanks!

  1. Wait so isn’t there only like 3 states with “universal background checks”… That were JUST passed in the past couple years? Are statistics even out for that yet?

    • Statistics are out for Washington: nobody’s enforcing the law, either because they think it’s unconstitutional or because it’s not enforceable.

      • More like a little bit of both.

Enforcing the law would result in any two people sharing the same gun at the range being arrested. None of the cops here want to do that. I also suspect it would go to the supreme court with the right lawyers and potentially be ruled unconstitutional.

    • Calfornia has had a UBC law for many years that applies to all transactions.

As another unrelated point, where do they get the idea that internet sales are not regulated? Isn’t it true that all interstate sales must be conducted through an FFL with a BGC?

      • Yeah, if you actually make the purchase online and get it shipped it has to go through FFL. However what they are talking about, if you re read the quotes you can notice the careful, almost Clintonian language, is private parties arranging in-person, or at least intra-state sales through online channels. Hence the use of “arrange”.

So technically they aren’t lying, but you know damned well they are implying that people are having guns shipped to their homes.

    • Colorado first year 208 rejected out of 26,000 UBC and 455,000 NICS checks in a year

NICS operation report 1997 to today prove 93.8% of rejections are not bad guys = 13 were actual felons

BATF prosecutes .5% of the actual bad guys rejected per NICS operations reports = less than 1 prosecuted

Washington state 16,726 private on line sales over 138 days and the every town whooores only found 8 bad guys

Over 1 year that translates to 44,239 private sales and 21 bad guys of which .5% would be prosecuted = maybe 1 successful prosecution out of 512,000 avg NICS checks per year

  2. It’s a health-SCARE issue. Low info voters and those who don’t want to sort it out for themselves. Less critical thinking and more knee jerk, feel good, arm chair, non activism.

  3. Jackson’s death was the ninth in Texas since 2009 involving domestic violence.

So approximately 1.5 deaths per year in a state with over 25M people? Aren’t there other health issues that would give them a higher bang/buck ratio? I’d bet more people have died due to exposure to cold weather in Texas in the past six years.

      • Isn’t the obvious answer that Texans need the protection of the State to ensure that they have A/C control and furnace control. A vast bureaucracy of home inspectors and car inspectors need to check each home for a functional A/C and furnace before the beginning of each summer and winter.
It it saves just one child!

  4. Anyone who quotes Bloomberg’s astroturf org Everytown as truth to be obeyed ought to receive a virtual slap to the face until they develop the better sense to realize how BS that group is.

  5. “I write about reproductive + women’s health/policy…”

So her big cause is making sure women are free to legally kill their children. Nice.

    • As long as it’s an unwanted child under 2 years of age, done by Planned Parenthood, paid for by taxpayers , or some combination of the above, then yes killing a child is fine. Maybe we can rebrand intentional homicides by firearms late term abortions.

    • Like that late ’90s song Tubthumping goes – “I get knocked up, then I abort again, you’re never gonna keep me down….” I loved that one;-)

  6. the number of Americans killed by medical malpractice dwarfs the number of firearms-related deaths

Hell, dude, doctors kill more patients every year than colon cancer — and they’re a bigger pain in the ass to boot.

  7. Yahoo in general is hopelessly, terminally, infuriatingly politically-correct. Their gun-o-phobia is just part of that posture.

  8. So, I think what I got out of this article was links to Bloomberg and the notion that we need laws against buying guns online illegally. Am I missing anything here?

  9. Isn’t “Everytown …” the universal definitive source for all statistics related to guns? Why wouldn’t The Yahoos use them exclusively?

    (/somuchsarcasmiwannapuke)

    • It really is irritating. It would be one thing to keep quoting them if their “statistics” were simply out there unchallenged. But Everytown has been caught red-handed fudging and lying, and not just by right-leaning media–even the Washington Post gave them multiple “Pinocchios” for lying. Yet idiots like the Yahoo people keep quoting them as gospel.

  10. Who has two thumbs and has used Yahoo Sports to host his Fantasy Football League for the last time? That’s right, this guy!

  11. ““Anybody can go online and arrange to purchase a gun from an unlicensed seller,”

-Commerce between one individual and another, with as limited outside interference is a large part of American Ideals. It is not an American ideal to believe like soto lamb, who prefers Soviet style state approval.

-It is not hard to understand that our nation is irreparably divided. The hard part is knowing what inevitably comes when a nations peoples are fractured from ideological differences.

  12. She lives in Atlanta and spews this horse-puckey on the Internet.

    For shame.

Tell her what the real deal is via Twitter at @jennyalyse

RF if this runs afoul, sorry.

  13. Some one help me out please. I am a 25 year pistol collector from PA. I carry concealed every day, NRA member for 20 years, but I need someone to please tell me where the hell I can buy a pistol online and just have it shipped to my house with no FFL involved whatever? I keep seeing this referenced by the antis. Am I missing something?

    • You have to go to the hood in Phili to pick it up. Don’t expect door-to-door service for such a low-profit-margin item as a hot gun.

    • “where the hell I can buy a pistol online and just have it shipped to my house with no FFL involved whatever?”

It’s called a private sale (for sale by owner) Go to on line on a free classified web site that allows guns to be sold, find a seller that has what you are looking, within driving distance meet in a public place exchange cash for the gun. No FFL involved, no NICs. depending on your state, perfectly legal.
I happened to be in my local gun store picking up a pistol I brought on gunbroker.com when a guy came in to pick up a check for a gun they had sold for him on consignment and had a Colt Detective .38 vintage late 60’s/early 70’s with him he wanted to sell to owner. Store owner was not interested but said that lady over there might, pointing to me, might be interested, since they have been receiving FFL on a couple of vintage revolvers purchased on gunbroker owner knew I like them. the revolver I purchased that day was called a “parking lot sale” by store owner. Got a really nice Colt revolver for $200.00 cash.

      • Ma’am, you rock!
That was a nice score. I’ve had similar things happen to me. It’s just one reason I like to have a few hundred in cash in pocket at all times!
I love summer for garage sales too. My last Marlin .22 was from one. $65 bucks.

        • Tom, I can beat that. I got a Marlin model 36 at a garage sale for absolutely nothing. It was listed as “broken”. The woman selling it told me she had used it for a decoration in her garden.
Solvent bath, lots of scrubbing, gun worked just fine. Not pretty, but worked just fine. It was my truck gun for years until I gave it away to someone who needed a gun to hunt with.
This weekend I paid $250 for a Winchester model 12 and a savage 110 that looks like it might not ever have been shot. Another $100 got me a seemingly brand new pm9 with night sights. That’s what the owner actually asked for, and at that price I had no reason to haggle.

    • Maybe you can, literally, buy it on the internet, but the actual transfer requires a face to face meeting, the seller cannot be an FFL, and the transfer has to occur in the state of residence of both parties. Pretty much like buying at a gun show using the “gun show loophole.”

  14. Ya know, I was going to go there and post a comment calling out both Yahoo, for not just giving Soto Lamb the byline, and Soto Lamb, for that idiotic “buying shoes” statement (like there was a federal law against shipping shoes by mail to the buyer). But after being up three days, there are only 27 comments. Hell, hardly anyone would even know about this piece of journalistic offal if TTAG hadn’t posted it here.

  15. I write about reproductive + women’s health/policy for @YahooHealth; women’s issues for @ThisIsFusion; feminism + pop culture for @guardianUS.

Which, of course, makes you eminently qualified to pontificate about guns, laws, gun laws, or criminology, right?

  16. Who goes to yahoo for anything but shites & giggles? I thought everyone understood they are fluff only. Yeeesh…

  17. Meanwhile, the gun-slaves, NRA, TTAG and it’s Gun lobby masters fight everyday to prevent laws that would save lives from all kinds.

Meanwhile again in the safe civilized world, Crime in europe, japan, australia and canada has continued to have severely low crime rates due to very stringent gun laws and I’ve yet to see these countries turn into despotic dictatorships or see their own police or military forces drag their citizens out of their homes killing them on the spot or escorting them to these fantasy death camps you gun nuts speak of.

You Racist and Fascist Terrorist are a horrible human beings to post something like this. You blamed the victim. You didn’t even bother blaming the criminal, which would have at least made sense. Nope, you blamed the victim for their death and the death of innocent children.

    Speaking of Australia…

Last massacre where more than 5 people were shot

Port Arthur massacre 28 April 1996

Number of gun massacres in the last 15 years : 0, total dead 0.

NRA,TTAG and the “Gun-right” Terrorists did something … made sure no limits prevent criminals and other dangerous folks from getting a gun. Yeah NRA and TTAG!! Fighting for our rights to kill others!!

Guns kill people, but easy access to cheap guns allow angry people to easily kill other people, en masse. All you 2nd Amendment idiots completely pervert the intent of the law: to allow states to have organized citizen militias in time of defensive need. There is NO “right” for individuals to be carrying firearms. Eventually the proper court case will come to the Supreme Court and this is will all be settled, finally, and we can end gun violence.

Hats off to the NRA and it’s propaganda website TTAG for protecting the right to have a firearm. WAY more important than any of these other so-called right, such as not being shot in a public place by a crazy guy TTAG helped procure a firearm.

    • Dude, you straight copy/pasted that victim blaming bit from the comments section on the article. I had high hopes for you and your troll skills but this is bush league. Up the crazy rhetoric and double down on unfair inflammatory remarks. At least argue back by repeating the same thing over and over Billy. Time to drop the amateur hour act and show us what you really got.

    • Willy is on copy-paste duty.

Same nonsense ripped from the mission statements of the Democratic Party, CPUSA, and the Green Party.

  18. Willy “I just love those white sheets and pointy hats when they’re fresh out of the dryer” Lunchmeat seems to enjoy calling people Slaves. I bet he’s into retro bondage where he’s the Massa.

  19. All true, yahoo shills work 24/7 pushing mandatory vaccine propaganda, and use nearly the same formula, tactics and arguments. And if you’re willing to absorb self punishment, the AstroTurfing/paid shill comments below the articles are blatantly transparent.

  20. “Private dealers” is the underlying fabrication. A private sale (or multiple private sales) does not a “dealer” make.

But this critical agit-prop lie is foundational to their whole disingenuous argument.

  21. You have to discount Yahoo for objectivity, as they are all hacks doing what Marissa Mayer (Yahoo CEO) tells them to write. Those that have integrity and refuse are quickly replaced with new sycophants. Which is why they hate Trump too.

  22. It is amazing to me how this person can defend the killing of unborn babies but people who want to defend themselves against criminals are somehow evil.

  23. We are gonna focus on that one person. Charles Cotton, a National Rifle Association board member, took it a step further, placing blame on Pinckney for his support of increased gun control measures as a state sena 1000 tor.
