Kansas City car crash (courtesy kctv5.com)

That’s the headline over at Kansas City’s KCTV5. “Six children are without a mother after a violent crash that left the rest of the family injured,” they report. “It was caused when the family inadvertently got caught up in the middle of a rolling gun battle between two other cars.  Police said the victim that died has been identified as 30-year-old Mariana Hernandez–Gonzales of Kansas City. Hernandez–Gonzales’ husband, Julio, happened to be driving with the family as passengers when they got caught up in the gunfire. Police say one of the two cars shooting at each other ran a red light and T-boned Hernandez–Gonzales’ side of the SUV, causing them to crash.” A horrifying incident, one the antis will decry as a firearms-related fatality, but . . .

Kansas City Police Chief Darryl Forte said Hernandez–Gonzales was thrown from the front passenger’s seat because of how violent the impact was. Debris, including a car bumper, a soccer ball and children’s shoes, littered the roadway. A car even knocked down a traffic light . . .

The six children – four boys and two girls ranging in age from one and a half to 10 years old – were rushed to Children’s Mercy Hospital with critical injuries. The youngest boy had surgery Wednesday for internal injuries. Three of the children remained in critical condition the following day, but doctors are hopeful they will all recover.

Sounds to me like Mrs. Hernandez-Gonzales wasn’t wearing her seat belt. Chances are her children were similarly unprotected. I’m not blaming them, but it’s worth noting that you’re far more likely to die in a car accident than a “rolling gun battle” or other firearms-related incident. Unless you’re a gang-banger or suicidal. But that’s another story.

Kansas City police said people in the car that T-boned Hernandez-Gonzales’ then carjacked someone at the scene and sped off. Police gave chase, which made its way into Kansas City, KS. The pursuit ended at East 18th Street and Jackson Avenue about 45 minutes later when police deployed a tire deflation device. One person was taken into custody . . .

Police officials said this week that drive-by shootings this year are up about a fourth over those reported last year.

  1. All part of the plan.

Wreck the economy. Release felons from jail. Invite in illegal aliens, quit deporting the criminal ones. Funnel weapons to the narcos (Fast and Furious). Stoke racial tensions. Attack the police and scare them into not doing their jobs (Ferguson). Return New York to the rotten apple days. Watch the crime rate go up and then blame it on guns instead of the deliberately bad social policies. Try to pass new gun controls.

Pass me some more tinfoil, I hear metal hats are all the rage these days and I doubt mine’s big enough.

      • Sounds like the liberal media spin worked on you. It’s not just “guns” destroying society, it is also the “blacks murderin everyone” … (sheesh)

    • I doubt a tin hat is necessary. Either Obama is the least competent leader this world has ever known, or he is a brilliant megalomaniac. In this case, we can easily identify a pattern that would lead anyone of reasonable intelligence to conclude that these actions by Obama are by design, so I tend to believe he is that brilliant megalomaniac the WWII generation warned us about.

      • Southwest KS has been dealing with this issue for a long time. The illegal work population that is used in the stockyards and meat packing plants in that area brought all kinds of fun with it.

  2. Well it sounds exactly like you said, If the children and the mother were seat belted in which is the law in the State of Florida, they would have survived end of story. I’ve seen people Hit And be involved in accidents where the combined speed was 90 miles an hour or better and because they were wearing safety belts they survived where I’ve also seen people that hit other cars at 35 to 40 miles an hour and suffered traumatic brain injuries which later cause their death A seat belt is a very good idea if you’re driving a car today And like you said Gunplay had no involvement in her death Just a couple of g*********** out stealing cars and tearing up the street and breaking the law federal firearms laws no doubt and now we gotta listen to the crapola that comes from the media about this Thanks a lot you bunch of moron g********** when are the police actually going to be able to arrest these people and the prosecutors not make a plea deal and let these morons back out on the street I bet you a dime to a donut when they catch these morons they’ve got link the rap sheets as long as your arm.

    • Prosecutors wouldn’t have to make plea deals if police only arrested people for real crimes not Wiskey Delta quarter ounce weed charges. For every arrest and charged person that is a prosecutors time. I would imagine they have to pick and choose what goes to court and what doesn’t not only based on factual evidence but time. Maybe add more prosecutors? I don’t know. I’ve heard cops point the finger at prosecutors and a lot of the time they are right to do so. There is a local prosecutor by me who doesn’t care about crime unless his pictures in the paper and he makes every cop in the counties job difficult because he gets into arguments with Judges and Chief’s. On the other hand I’ve talked to prosecutors who are handed cases with absolutely no evidence and yeah sure they want to throw the book at them 35 to life…but if they loose then a thug is on the street. The whole system is a mess….if we stopped enforcing every little stupid victimless non-violent petty non-damaging crime we might have more hours for Cops, Prosecutors, and Judges to get it right more often.

    • What’s wrong with trees and sandals?
Anyone who sees the trees we have in Cascadia would love them, too.
And sandals are just awesome footwear. I see them all over the gun ranges in the summer up here. And of course, those ranges are covered in beautiful, aromatic, oxygen-providing, pollution-filtering, noise-absorbing, shade-producing trees.

  3. Six kids! I wonder if they were all strapped in cars seats if required. I heard Carson say last night that his mother came from a family of 21 children. That’s just insane! Too bad other folks probably supported them, but that’s another story, nuff said.

  4. Bad people doing illegal things, with legal objects that are likely illegal for them to possess.

Clearly, in that sentence, the fix is to ban the legal objects.

  5. 8 people…in a vehicle that AT MOST can legally carry 7 (appropriate seats and seat belts). If more than one of the kids required a child safety seat, that means even less room for the other kids.
