Pity the poor United Nations. Or not. The international org on Turtle Bay that gives equal say to bastions of freedom like North Korea, Cuba and Venezuela as America has reportedly nearly exhausted its financial reserves.

If nothing changed, the UN will apparently run out of money by the end of this month. Someone pass me some tissues because I’m crying my eyes out.

From CBS News:

The United Nations is running a deficit of $230 million, Secretary General Antonio Guterres said on Monday, and may run out of money by the end of October. In a letter intended for the 37,000 employees at the UN secretariat and obtained by CBS News’ Pamela Falk, Guterres said unspecified “additional stop-gap measures” would have to be taken to ensure salaries and entitlements are paid.

“Member States have paid only 70 percent of the total amount needed for our regular budget operations in 2019. This translates into a cash shortage of $230 million at the end of September. We run the risk of depleting our backup liquidity reserves by the end of the month,” he wrote.

To cut costs, Guterres mentioned postponing conferences and meetings and reducing services, while also restricting official travel to only essential activities and taking measures to save energy.

Recall that President Donald Trump slashed America’s donation to the UN by $285 million after a majority of the world’s nation states voted against US recognizing Israel’s capital of Jerusalem. From Newsweek:

The U.S. was cheering a massive $285-million cut in the United Nations’ 2018 budget on Sunday—an announcement that comes days after more than 120 nations criticized the United States for its decision to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.

In announcing the cut, Ambassador Nikki Haley blamed the world body for its budgetary excesses without making a specific reference to last week’s vote on President Donald Trump’s controversial Jerusalem decision. It is unclear if all of the budget savings will come from a reduction in the U.S. contribution to the U.N.’s overall $5.4-billion biennial budget, but Haley’s statement did not mention any other member states.

Yes, the UN’s shortfall this year would have been made up by what the United States used to donate. But not any more thanks to President Trump. Not to mention that a third of the UN’s deadbeat members haven’t paid their dues at all.

Yes, the gun grabbers at the UN Headquarters might actually face layoff or termination.  Why they might even have to return to their tyrannical home nations. Oh noes!

Here’s what they’ve been up to. From GunPolicy.org:

Armed Violence, Small Arms and the United Nations
The United Nations Charter commits nations to maintain international peace and security, and to collectively prevent and remove threats to peace.

Which over the years has been perverted to allow nations to include suppressing uprisings by unarmed populations against socialist and communist tyrannies.

To limit the proliferation of illicit firearms, the nearly-200 Member States of the United Nations have agreed to implement a range of measures to ‘prevent, combat and eradicate’ the harmful effects of small arms and light weapons around the world. These include the UN Firearms Protocol, the UN small arms Programme of Action, the UN Register of Conventional Weapons and the UN Arms Trade Treaty.

Because suppressing the trade of small arms will help prevent armed insurrection against tyranny.

Secretary-General Antonio Guterres says the United Nations is facing its “worst cash crisis” in nearly a decade because 64 of its 193 members have not paid their annual dues, including the United States, which is the U.N.’s largest contributor. The NRA-ILA has been watching over the UN’s gun-grabbing tendencies as well. From NRA-ILA:

NRA has been engaged at the United Nations and elsewhere internationally in response to overreaching small arms initiatives for two decades. During this time, we have been actively opposing transnational efforts that would limit Americans’ Second Amendment freedoms. NRA has been a recognized Non-Governmental Organization at the United Nations since 1996. Our status as an NGO allows us to closely monitor the internal UN debate over firearm issues and report back to our members.

The most pressing international threat to U.S. gun owners is the UN Arms Trade Treaty (ATT). Among its most egregious provisions, the treaty encourages national recordkeeping requirements for “end users” of covered arms (including firearms), and suggests that national governments share such records. Further, the ATT compels countries to make arms import and export decisions based upon a trading partner’s willingness to abide by the treaty’s requirements, which could isolate the United States from legitimate trade in arms or force it to adopt restrictions detrimental to Second Amendment rights. During the drafting phase, NRA vigorously advocated for civilian firearm ownership be removed from the treaty’s scope. Those recommendations were ignored, meaning U.S. firearms policy could become the rest of the world’s business and subject to its approval, on pain of trade restrictions if it doesn’t meet “international norms.”

Secretary of State John Kerry signed the ATT on behalf of the U.S. on September 25, 2013. NRA continues to work with its Senate allies to prevent ratification or implementation of the treaty in the U.S.

Sadly, a majority of nations across the globe don’t share the freedoms Americans do…including the right of the people to keep and bear arms.

The fact that these overwhelmingly gun-hating bureaucrats in New York at UN Headquarters are nearly broke is news we should all celebrate.

In the meantime, maybe they could sell the twisted sculpture pictured at the top of page for scrap metal to pay for their plane rides back home.

    • I think that was a bumper sticker in the 70’s or 80’s. No? Not sure when. “Get the US out of the UN, and the UN out of the US”

      • In the 1960’s I traveled route 66. It could have been New Mexico but I believe I was in Arizona when I encountered a long string of billboards that called for the US to get out of the UN.

They weren’t bumper stickers but they sure were eye catching.

  1. Couldn’t happen to a nicer bunch of guys. I drove past the U.N. building once a few years ago. Out of respect I gave a salute. With my middle finger.

    • Yes…They have showed us exactly what not to do, and it gives us someone to point our finger at and say “there goes the bad guy.”

    • The UN is the brainchild of a early regressive under another name Woodrow Effing Wilson’s League of Nations, one is dead and gone, time for the other to follow suit.

    • Truthfully? Entertainment. Watching dictators and despots get up in front of the world and spew stupidity is funny. But it’s not billions of dollars of funny. So they should probably start selling off furniture and computers, and eventually the UN building to pay their bills. Sounds like a win/win.

  2. The U.S. should have been out of the UN years ago, when all the little one-horse SJW countries started disrespecting us. The UN has been able to do nothing but talk without U.S. financial support. Now all those faceless petty tyrants can go home. One-world government be damned! I hope the UN fails badly! Then all these little countries (and some of the big ones) that don’t like us can go somewhere else to find their mouthpiece. As somebody else said above, the U.S. out of the UN, and the UN out of the U.S.

      • Agreed. Now it should be a more fair relationship instead of the US over funding/donating. The US has influence.
This relationship is important to maintain.

      • Without the US (viz., the money it puts in) there would effectively be no UN. No need to worry about a spot on the security council of a dead org.

  3. There’s a lot to like about this Trump guy! Who da thunk you could just make them go away by defunding them? What else could Trump defund?

  4. Toss the UN out of the USA…what a waste of a billion dollars of good real estate!

all they ever do is fuck shit up and expect the USA to go fix it sooner or later on our dime

    • It would be a very different show if China were picking up the tab, wouldn’t it? Among other things, the UN has always been a forum for people to loudly badmouth the USA until we throw money at them. Guessing China wouldn’t put of with that.

  5. What cuck would pay dues to be part of a club that belittles and berates him while blaming him for all thats wrong with the world?
United States, you’re evil! Also: United States, save us!
Eat shit and die, UN. Eat shit and die.

  6. I can’t wait for MSM to run stories about how bad it is for the UN and that it’s all “Donald Trump’s fault”.

  7. If they trim down the budget for fine restaurants, exclusive and rare wines, massages, private jet travel, limousine transport, and premium escort (male and female) services they could come up with the balance. But that won’t happen.

  8. We need a UN and should seek to fix the one we have rather than create a new one or do without. President Reagan had some success in this as withdrawing funding did force reforms. That sort of American leadership has been rather on and off, unfocused and intermittent ever since.

The UN has prevented many wars and stopped others. Also, failed to do so, often due to first Soviet and later Russian veto in the Security Council. The UN has also given the USA legal standing by way of the support of many countries when we wanted to go someplace and kick some, ass, blow some shit up, kill some bad people.

It is useful, needs fixing for the many reasons stated here and other places. The leadership to do this is not evident anywhere.

    • When did the UN ever stop a war? Or actually do anything? Other than burn our money? They are and have been for as long as I can remember, USELESS!

      • Google the UN’s peace keeping history. Do some grown up reading. Or just continue to rant in ignorance, whichever brings you the greater joy.

        • “Google the UN’s peace keeping history. Do some grown up reading.”

          Should I keep going?

      • One of their main missions, perhaps the main mission, was to keep borders stable after WWII. They have done quite a bit toward that end. Of course, an unspoken goal was to work toward world government.

    • Other countries might need a UN. The USA does not.

“The UN has prevented many wars and stopped others. ”

A war that doesn’t directly affect US soil is not one we should be in. The might have stopped a war between small countries that is their business not ours. Let them kill each other. We deal with the victor.

We are not the world’s police force & it’s high time we quit acting like we are. It’s costing us FAR too much both money & lives.

    • “UN has also given the USA legal standing by way of the support of many countries when we wanted to go someplace and kick some, ass, blow some shit up, kill some bad people.”

      That’s not a good thing.

What a backwards world we live in, when the president is derided by all the cognoscenti for spending US military money to control our own southern border and a global misadventure like the UN is politically sacred.

  9. Let’s see if we can put together a top ten list ro help them out. I’ll go first.

Top Ten Cost Cutting Suggestions For the U.N.

    10. Adjust printer settings to print on front and back of pages for anti-israel resolutions.

  10. Trump should borrow from HIlary: offer to buy out the UN debt…so long as the US owns everything, and the 200 members must pay up their annual dues, or default on their debt, allowing the USUN to demand delinquent members put up their national treasuries, and unlimited rights to natural resources. Only member states who fully pay their dues in advance of the fiscal year will have delegates seated, and voting. From their, member nations may rent humanitarian relief, and peacekeepers….from the USUN; paid in advance.

  11. The “United Nation” is worthless. Eviction is overdue, they can relocate to one of those shit hole countries they love to support. Convert the building to condos. All those anti-American diplomats/staff can’t be deported fast enough for my liking.

  12. Screw em, they’re really after power truth be known. They’d EUize or force communism on the world if they could for their own exploitation. They leave so many countries out in the wind it’s insane. There’s been a couple of permanent members that should have never been made permanent members too.

  13. Only twohundteffifty million, cut em a check Mr Pesident. If “We the People” can baiout a kahr company we certainly should be able to bail out an Army

  14. Why would you cheer the dissolving of an international organization that we basically run and have HUGE influence over. Just makes us less relevant to the world and removes even more of our ability to influence world events.

Seems like the UN is a huge boogey man for the “Lives in one stoplight town” TTAG demographic.

    • Because the core of the US polity is distrustful of machinations to “run the world” or “be involved in world events” since the founding of this nation. From Geo. Washington’s farewell address:

“The great rule of conduct for us in regard to foreign nations is in extending our commercial relations, to have with them as little political connection as possible. So far as we have already formed engagements, let them be fulfilled with perfect good faith. Here let us stop. Europe has a set of primary interests which to us have none; or a very remote relation. Hence she must be engaged in frequent controversies, the causes of which are essentially foreign to our concerns. Hence, therefore, it must be unwise in us to implicate ourselves by artificial ties in the ordinary vicissitudes of her politics, or the ordinary combinations and collisions of her friendships or enmities.

Our detached and distant situation invites and enables us to pursue a different course. If we remain one people under an efficient government. the period is not far off when we may defy material injury from external annoyance; when we may take such an attitude as will cause the neutrality we may at any time resolve upon to be scrupulously respected; when belligerent nations, under the impossibility of making acquisitions upon us, will not lightly hazard the giving us provocation; when we may choose peace or war, as our interest, guided by justice, shall counsel.

Why forego the advantages of so peculiar a situation? Why quit our own to stand upon foreign ground? Why, by interweaving our destiny with that of any part of Europe, entangle our peace and prosperity in the toils of European ambition, rivalship, interest, humor or caprice?”

Idiotic “world governance” champions (most of whom have been politicians and academics, two groups of people who are by turns sworn enemies of liberty and instigators of “big ideas” that turn out to be disasters) have been ever at odds with the foundational premise of the US that we do our thing, and the world can go do their thing.

The truth of the UN (and its predecessor, the League of Nations) is that they were set up to keep the Europeans from killing each other in industrial scale. The Europeans were OK with killing each other by the 100’s of thousands since the Reformation, but when WWI came along, and now the KIA counts went into the millions, Europeans recoiled in horror. So they wanted to have some world edifice through which they could short-rope the Americans in to their problems, and we got the UN. This is not merely a cynical view – it is the truth – because the foundation of the UN began whilst we were embroiled in WWII. The UN grew out of the agreement among 26 nations opposing the Axis powers from January, 1942. The Europeans allowed the Axis powers to grow into military superpowers under their noses, refusing to hold the Axis nations to the terms of the Treaty of Versailles. They wanted someone else to shoulder the job of holding rogue nations to such treaties, and someone, somewhere in Europe said “I know! We’ll get those dim-witted Yanks to do it!”

Europe has enjoyed one of the longest periods of peace due entirely and solely to the US occupation of Europe since WWII; this period of peace and prosperity has nothing to do with the UN, and everything to do with the US troops stationed in Germany.

In the fullness of hindsight, it would have been cheaper and much more effective if we had used a couple of atomic bombs on Germany at the end of WWII, to show the Germans that there is a price to be paid for declaring war on the United States, and that price is annihilation. We could have then retired back home and been done with Europe, having shown them that we are perfectly willing to immolate 100’s of thousands of Europeans, and that the best course of action to prevent this in the future would be to not annoy us.

    • “Why would you cheer the dissolving of an international organization that we basically run and have HUGE influence over. Just makes us less relevant to the world and removes even more of our ability to influence world events.”

Clearly the You which you refer to isn’t the United States.

    • Living in a place where lots of other people lives doesn’t make you better or smarter than those of us, who decided to live in less crowded places. It just makes you more likely to succumb to leftism.
This from a guy who lived for years in Chicago and now lives in its suburbs.

      • Chicken and egg question to some extent, and I’m sure it’s related to multiple factors, but I’ve come to believe leftists tend to be happier living in cities (on average). Leftists are collectivists, happier when they run with the densely-packed herd and unhappy being isolated. Individualists, in contrast, are both less likely to be leftist and less like to prefer city life. It’s a hypothesis.

Population density (which is the most reliable correlate of murder rate according to all the analyses I’ve seen or done) may be key in other ways. The more people you pack in per square mile, the more rules and regulations you will probably need to keep things running smoothly (or keep them from killing each other). So, cities will naturally tend to be more authoritarian in orientation, which is also consistent with leftism (though of course they don’t use those terms).

  15. If like any other rental situation. If the tenant falls behind. Evict their sorry assez
Europe deserves to host them. Get the dammed freeloaders out of the USA. By any means possible. We dont want nor need them here.

  16. Because citizens possessing firearms has caused every war and massive genecides in world history, oh wait that was because countries possessed weapons. A more noble goal for the UN would be to outlaw governments from possessing weapons of war and turn them over to the people. That would actually solve all the world’s problems.

  17. The warped revolver depiction along with the UN and it’s crooked bureaucracy should be sold for scrap. Additionally, should the UN be “unhappy” with it’s New York/U.S.A. location, it’s hind end is not weldd in place. It is free to go elsewhere, assuming that “elsewhere” would have it.

  18. The UN can get the money from George Soros. He already owns the UN Human Rights Council. Now he can pay for the rest of the UN too.

    • The same Soros family that sold it’s friends to Adolf Hitler to be put to death for a few measly dollars, what trash. I’m not a Jew but I hate this man for what he did, they still support his political party, why? Same reason they crucified their savior I guess, money. You all should really be ashamed of yourselves.

  19. Russia and China have used the UN for years to thwart the US. Plenty of nations and dictators ignore the UN, Saddam and the Kim family along with others, we actually allow them to dictate to us.

14 resolutions against Saddam and then we discover the UN was letting Iraq sell oil for humanitarian supplies only to benefit Kofi Anan and his family. Just one backstab among many.

More than half the committee’s are led by dictator countries and the US hasn’t chaired the human rights committee in years. They had such places like Saudi Arabia run that for a while.

Every time the blue helmets go in things get worse. When they come down the street for our guns it will be the shit show of all time.
