A Wisconsin representative is looking to restore the right to bear arms in some schools for some people. From jsonline.com:
Town of Jackson — A state lawmaker said Saturday he would introduce a bill to allow licensed gun owners to carry weapons on the grounds of private schools, and he expects to advance similar bills aimed at public K-12 schools and college campuses.
State Rep. Jesse Kremer (R-Kewaskum) said the state’s concealed carry law, which restricts permit holders from taking their weapons on school grounds, needs to be adjusted to match the federal Gun-Free School Zones Act, which includes an exception for those with CCW licenses. He said the effort is targeting private schools first because “it’s an easier lift” politically.
The problem with current law is that people who legally carry guns are required to leave guns in their vehicle every time they enter or leave school grounds. This presents a safety hazard that is real, as it multiplies the number of times that guns are holstered and unholstered. It also exposes the unattended firearms to theft.
There’s an added increment of risk each time a gun is unholstered and stored, then retrieved and reholstered. There is a much more significant risk of the personal defensive firearm being stolen while stored in the vehicle.
The much safer option is to remove restrictions on legally armed individuals’ ability to exercise their right to bear arms. Even in schools. Allowing them to carry keeps their firearms under their control, available to protect themselves and others, and makes them far less likely to be stolen.

I like my little jc higgens (made by hi standard for sears) revolver, it was very cheap to buy, shoots as good or better than me and if you feed it shorts, has zero recoil.
If you’ve ever tried unloading a semi-auto discreetly and safely in your car without losing the ejected round under the seat, you’ll understand why this proposal is long overdue. Unloading under those conditions is a disaster waiting to happen. When I know in advance I have to go to a school zone that day, I carry a revolver specifically for that reason.
Who said anything about unloading?
Wisconsin State Statute 948.605(2)(b)
(2) Possession of Firearm In School Zone.
(a) Any individual who knowingly possesses a firearm at a place that the individual knows, or has reasonable cause to believe, is in or on the grounds of a school is guilty of a Class I felony. Any individual who knowingly possesses a firearm at a place that the individual knows, or has reasonable cause to believe, is within 1,000 feet of the grounds of a school is subject to a Class B forfeiture.
(b) Paragraph (a) does not apply to the possession of a firearm by any of the following:
1r. Except if the person is in or on the grounds of a school, a licensee, as defined in s. 175.60 (1) (d), or an out-of-state licensee, as defined in s. 175.60 (1) (g).
3. A person possessing a gun that is not loaded and is any of the following:
a. Encased.
b. In a locked firearms rack that is on a motor vehicle.
So you wait til you get to the school to unload it? Uh, you already broke the law.
And as far as worrying about that round that falls under the seat, fuck it. I have thousands more exactly like that one.
For crying out loud, is it just me or are you really that dense. Do you load and unload handguns in the car right in front of your kids right before you drop them off for school? If you do, wouldn’t it occur to you that maybe your kid’s teacher is a liberal hoplophobe and you’d rather not have your kid chatting about daddy’s gun in the car to his teacher? Do you think that maybe parking on the side of the road PRIOR to driving onto school grounds so you can unload and put away your handgun as required by law might get noticed by a passerby and attract unwanted attention? Or do you disarm yourself half the day while you drive to and from school through less-than-pleasant neighborhoods while there is a freakin armed carjacking epidemic going on? I know how to draw my damned gun, idiot. I’d prefer not to cause a freakin lockdown at my kid’s school because a live round happened to fall out from under the seat in the school parking lot. I’d be happy to hear your thoughts on life in Georgia, but you can keep your condescending snark to yourself about how easy it is to deal with something you obviously know little about.

I just keep my gun loaded and under my shirt all the time. See, that is what a free man does. One day, a free man like me might save your kid’s life when a murderer comes on campus and a guy like me can intervene. Meanwhile, keep fumbling around trying to load your revolver while free men are already in the fight.
I really hate when people make this argument. Yes, I understand that negligent discharges happen… but by making this argument, you’re actively telling the opposition that gun owners are sometimes negligent. You’re telling them that the simple act of unholstering/reholstering is unsafe, when it’s not.
Yep. It seems that a large portion of the gun community, simply carry a gun and do not practice with it. Gun handling is very important to me. One day, I may have to do it for real. In the mean time, I draw and holster my gun (GLOCK 19) (GASP!) while loaded (DOUBLE GASP!) about 25 times a day. On the range, I do drills that incorporate the draw. There is target practice and there is gun fighting practice. I would hope the CC person would be more interested in the latter.
