OK, everyone reflexively answering Jerry Miculek, put your hands down. Not that there’s anything wrong with that, but there are a lot of other top notch, compelling shooters out there with their own devoted followers. People like Dave Sivigny, Julie Golob, Rob Leatham or Jesse Duff. The number and engagement of the People of the Gun has gotten to the point where there are plenty of shooters out there with dedicated posses. People like Diana Hufstedler, above, whose fans are fanatical enough that she’s now selling personalized posters and other swag to satisfy the popular demand. Who’s your favorite pro?

  4. I don’t watch or follow pro shooting anymore than I follow pro sports, but I see Jerry everywhere doing things that look awesomely fun. I really can’t think of anyone else that does that.

  5. I don’t have a favorite pro-shooter, but if I did, it would be due to a fine showing on the battlefield.

    Which is not to disparage the many fine people who shoot competitively.

    Jerry Miculek’s appeal to me comes not only because of his amazing abilities, but because he seems like the kind of guy we would all love to hang out at the range with. He still knows how to have fun shooting. Jerry’s daughter Lena Miculek recently got married. I would like to ask her new hubby what it’s like to have the Coolest. Father-in-law. Ever.

    As for Ms. Hufstedler, I’m digging the tag line on her web site:
    “Just like you… only prettier.”

  8. Jerry M. of course! That record time revolver reload was mindblowing. I don’t follow pro shooting, just watch cool stuff on youtube. Jerry has a lot of that. Diana H. from the above photo, sure does have Jerry beat in the looks department. Wow!

  9. 1. I love how you said DON’T say JM, because JM is everyone’s favorite, and then people say him anyway. Can’t. Take. Directions.

    2. My favorite pro shooter is Wendell Cherry, since he’s my sporting clays coach.

    3. On the tactical or speed side, my non-JM favorite is Julie Golob. Do it all wife, mother, competitor, hunter, cook, author, team leader, instructor, ex-military, gun PR person and spokesman. Sweet as honey and smart as a whip. And even though I’m about 5 years older than her, I just can’t help but have a silly schoolboy crush on her. The young hotties don’t do much for me (more power to ’em, mind you, and a girl’s gotta make a living, too, so promote y’self with wutcha got); Ms. Golob is a woman. A cute, redhead woman. Who can shoot lights out. What’s not to love?

    4. Second place on the non-JM list is Todd Jarrett. I have to love guys who look like total goobers but in reality are total badarses.

      • Horrible guess, and not even close. But when you can’t argue or opine, why not just take a stab at a low-brow cutdown? And the irony is that while you had to guess at my background just to try for an insult, we don’t have to guess at the sort of person you are. Now, having to assume (because all you did was go for the 5th grade insult, rather than make a specific statement) you were offended I objected to everyone extolling JM’s virtues when the author of the frikkin’ article acknowledged that he’s the favorite pro shooter of 99.9% of us, explain to me please why you feel it necessary to ignore the request of the author of the article just to say what he’s already said. Because it’s so much better when you say it, too? ‘Cuz, like, he’s a former SEAL and you’re…an insult comic wannabe?

          And is this your first rodeo? Butthurt much and the interwebz don’t go well together. Get over yourself.

        • Hey, JWM, I don’t disagree with Tom Knapp at all; I highly respect what he did; and may God rest his soul. But you STILL haven’t given me a reason for disagreeing with me in the first place. Give me a why, and we can argue; otherwise it’s pointless to pop off. Interesting that you chose to use “butthurt” to describe me, as I thought about using it to describe you in the last post, but decided not to, as it’s overused. You going to tell me what you disliked about my first post? If we wanna have an insult competition, maybe Jeffrey Ross has a forum and we can take it over there and roast one another.

  13. No. Shooting is not a spectator sport to me.

    I like KJW’s videos, attitude and the role model she represents for my daughter and son.

    Michelle Gallagher is a similar role model. I really like her points about training outside your “focus area.”

    But, we don’t look solely to shooters for such strong role models, though.

  16. Okay, she’s not a pro, but she is a 5-time Olympic medal winner (3 gold) and set world records in trap and skeet. My vote is for Kim Rhode. In the last Olympics, at the age of 33, she won the gold, set a world record, and became the only American athlete to ever win medals in 5 consecutive Olympics. Despite this, Bob Costas couldn’t find the time to interview her. Of course, he managed to interview female beach volleyball medalists. Kim Rhode is amazing. I heard her say that for her training, it is not unusual for her to fire 5,000 rounds in a week. And she seems incredibly nice too.

    • She was at Shot Show and let me take a picture with her and hold the medals. She’s pretty awesome, and extremely nice. She was at the Berreta booth answering questions. Almost nobody there knew who she was but I was so excited I pee’d a little bit.

        • Kim rhode also restores antique and muscle cars. A pretty woman riding around with guns in a 65 GTO. She’s the winner.

    • It’s a damn disgrace the way the media ignore her. Even worse since they claim to be pro-woman, but ignore her 5-Olympics record.

    • Is she a pro shooter? I thought she is amatuer particularly for Olympic eligibility. She’s an incredible shot to the point where when she steps up, you already know she’ll powder them all. She is quite the lady and shotgunner.

  18. Tom Knapp, he’s the one that got me into sporting clays as much as I am today. His incredible marksmanship and showmanship definitely places him at #1 on my list of pro shooters, followed closely by Jerry Miculek.

  19. I’m going to go with Jerry, too. Not because I don’t follow the shooting sports and can’t name anyone else, but that would be enough. Mostly because he seems like a pretty laid back, cool guy, who just happens to shoot better than anyone I’ve ever seen.

    I like his casual approach, which takes firearms seriously, but not himself too seriously. Jerry’s the kickass Grandpa from Hell everyone would love to hang out with. Half the guys his age are cutting up neighborhood kids’ Nerf footballs and shouting at them to stay the hell of their lawn. Meanwhile, Jerry’s doing his thing. Keep on keeping on, Jerry.

  24. Though, at times, I watch football, baseball or car racing, no part of watching someone else shoot a gun does a thing for me.

    Yes, I enjoy the YouTube vids, but have never, and will never, look at shooting a gun and the requisite ‘fanhood’ regarding TV time and fan worship as any sort of possibility…Israeli Supermodel or not!

    When I am behind the gun, I am the ‘pro!’

    I can be anything she wants BTW…..;)

  25. Brian Enos. I shot one lane over from him at the outdoor range in Mesa, AZ, and it sounded like there was automatic weapon fire over there.

  27. Listen, Commenter Bud is obviously a man of great perspicacity and worldly wisdom, and I can hardly upstage his suggestion of TD Roe, but I’m going to have to cave.
    ‘Course, as TD’s life and business partner, I have a perspective of my own.
    You wouldn’t believe how hard she works to keep up with the young’uns.
    But her gifts as an athlete- she just took up shooting not that long ago after a career as a volleyball player ended with some needed knee repairs- pale compared to her ability to instruct. She can get more handgunning skills packed into a cranium in less time than just about anyone I’ve seen. And I do it for a living.
    Possibly being located in the Chicagoland area instead of Arizona or Florida could be an issue. But it’s always one sponsor away from breaking out…
    Women action pistol/3-gun stars are the Big Thing these days, for sure.

    I’d add an honorable mention for Lisa Munson, one of the very top women action shooters in the world. Another gifted athlete with a phenomenal work ethic, Lisa’s range nickname of Mighty Mouse obscures doing a lot without using raw bulk and power. Also possibly one of the nicest people in the game.
    As for Jerry Miculek, having had the pleasure of being on the range with him, what you see on your monitor is entirely real. But again, what you don’t see is the awe-inspiring hard work it takes to be that good.
    Incidentally, I don’t believe he’s passed 60 just yet.

    • Jerry Miculek is listed early 60’s in PeopleSmart.com. Don’t have exact birthday. Where is your “life partner” in Illinois? I live in the southern suburbs. She sounds great…

      • TD Roe operates a training business in the Chicago area. You can always shoot with her at Oak Park SC in Plainfield, IL, North Porter County CC in Chesterton, IN, and other club matches throughout the year.
        I’d cite a link to her instruction business, but I’m not sure of the ethics of such (self) promotion on TTAG.
        I guess I ought to extend an apology for the mush-master wording.
        And to the question of, “Does she cook?”, in TD’s case, emphatically yes. She’s been a chef for many years when not engaged in athletic pursuits.

  32. What I like about Jerry as a pro shooter is that he doesn’t just wow you with his shooting prowess. Jerry explains his technique, his gear, how he adapts his gear, etc.

    Most of the pro’s are great shootists. Jerry is also a great teacher, even for someone who has been around guns as long as I have been. I learn something every time I watch Jerry sit down in his gun room and explain his gear and adaptations.

I don’t follow competitive shooting I’ll watch some vids here and there,Jesse duff I like to watch but Hickok 45 is the best ,anyone who can hit a gong a hundred yards away with a bond arms is the best in my book lol! pretty much watched just about all his videos,I know he’s not a competitive shooter, like I said don’t follow it watch it on the outdoor channel on weds once in awhile

  39. Don’t know if she’s pro or not but my fav is Katelyn Francis just because it’s awesome seeing dads passing along the shooting skill to their daughters.
