    • Theoretically you could shoot something like a 9mm cartridge as a sabot round out of a larger cartridge, like something in the .50 caliber range. So I think these guys are just ahead of the curve and all y’all are just a bunch of haters.

        • No, see,you load a 32ACP into a 357 shell. You charge the 357 shell as normal. You stuffed the 32 shell with black powder, to the brim, and sealed the primer pocket with a glob of wax.

About halfway down the barrel the ignition behind the 32ACP shell burns through the wax and sets off the BP, which uses the primer pocket as the rocket nozzle. It clears the muzzle at 1,400fps but 20ft downrange it’s picked up another 500fps from the rocket effect.

          🙂

One day I want to actually test that theory.

      • G_D_ Son you are f’n brilliant! I thought the other posters of the 223 round coming out brass and all was a joke. Now that it is on SOA, It must be the new sabot rounds. So, what you are saying is these are fired out of the new “ghost guns” I have heard so much about? Sh** I gotta’ get me one of these!

      • Millions budgeted for special effects but not 10 cents for a bullet? Not even a pair of pliers on set to pull one out? It’s pretty sad.

        • All they would of had to do was ask anyone with… Wait, wait wait, there might be a possibility that no one one the set has actually fired a real gun… I will be putting in my resume as a “firearms expert” for any of their spin-offs

      • I think it’s a lacquered case like Brown Bear, not electrical tape.

(Someone just grabbed the cheapest box of 9mm on the shelf lol)

    • Why is anyone surprised?
There’s one episode where the IRA were selling AKs to gang bangers, they made a big deal about having scopes and foregrip.
But when they were “testing” them, they used neither.

      • Did they discover it on a search upon on entry or did you volunteer the info? I visit the in laws in Detroit frequently and this would be good to know.

        • No I did not try to bring it in. I just stood there with a look on my face that said “you gatta be shitting me”. They asked me did I need help. I told them my predicament and they got a supervisor and then he went “upstairs” to talk to higher ups and called the guys at the gate to tell them there was nothing they could do for me.
So one guy tells me to find a lady with a big bag…I stopped him right there and said “yeah I noticed you guys were not thouroghly searching bags, but I am not going to try that.” It turned out okay. I went down the block and watched the game from a tequilla and tacos bar and stayed out of the rain. People seem nice in Detroit…It is a shame this city sucks so bad.

      • Any entertainment venue that seats more than 5000 is a prohibited place for your CPL by state law in Michigan. VERY sure Comerica has more than double that number. You might as well have been trying to carry into Greektown or Motor City casino. Brush up on the laws before taking your gun out of the house again.

        • Whoops! That was a bit harsh, didnt notice you were visiting from GA. Havent had my coffee yet. Sorry about that.

        • Yeah, until I saw your follow up comment, I was trying to figure out if you were living up to your name.
I was here last year and there were no metal detectors. I practice my right to bear arms everywhere there is no search and sesure.

      • You know what the definition of irony is?…
Standing outside a venue that has just barred you from entering for exercising your second amendment rights while the National Anthem plays inside.

      • OMG, I KNOW, IT WAS THAT CRAZY GERMAN LOONIE JORGE FROM “THE SLINGSHOT CHANNEL!!!”

        🙂

Seriously, it’s a good thing that guy wasn’t born before WW2 or Hitler would have had a bunch of truly weird terror weapons.

      • “Whoever” is correct in this case. An easy rule of thumb is to replace the questionable who/whom with a male pronoun, i.e. he or him. If the pronoun that fits ends in ‘m’ (him), you use whom. If it doesn’t, you use who. To wit:

“Whoever/whomever threw that cartridge had a good arm.”

He threw the cartridge/He had a good arm

        versus

Him threw the cartridge/Him had a good arm

“He” fits, “him” doesn’t. Ergo, the proper form is “whoever.”

  1. Wow…reusable bullets! Shoot a man and it automatically reloads itself while in the body of the attacker. Ready for reuse! Amazing… What an age we live in…

  2. I’m shocked and dismayed to find that that cold blooded killers portrayed on the show couldn’t recognize the idiocy of an unfired cartridge portrayed as injuring or killing someone .

Well, not really. I would be really amazed if any of the actors acting like an “outlaw biker gang” would even own any guns let alone know how to use one in a real self defense situation.

  3. I wish the picture wasn’t so fuzzy. It looks to me as if the casing and the bullet are at least separated, but that they are of different calibers.

  4. I remember the “Who shot Mr. Burns?” episodes of “The Simpsons” had the same thing. They went looking for the bullet Smithers had fired and found it, casing and all, stuck in Jasper’s wooden leg. Oh crap, I just realized, I’m a geek!

    • Ha, one of my favorite “don’t tell me the media aren’t biased” exhibits. That photo ran for several days straight , from Agence France Press via Yahoo News, purporting to how an Iraqi villager showing “bullets” she “found” in the wall of her house after those trigger-happy racist oppressor American soldiers drove through shooting the place up. The Net exploded with pics of real fired bullets, but I never saw any kind of retraction or “clarification”.

  5. A few years ago, on Mythbusters, they had an animation (as they frequently do) explaining a rifle myth. A fully cased, bottlenecked, rifle round came out of the muzzle of the rifle.

  6. You know, you can buy the bullets separately at one of the better-stocked gun stores. (You all DID know that actually). You would think the Hollywood propmasters would know that.

  7. In the show “Justified” Rayland Givens drops a bullet on bad guy Wynn Duffy’s chest after knocking him to the ground and says, “the next ones coming a lot faster.”

It looks like Rayland made a guest appearance on SOA….

PS: one of the coolest lines I’ve ever heard.

    • Agreed, for me it is a tossup between that and when somebody pulls a knife on him. He pulls his duster back to reveal his gun and says “S#%t, I forgot my knife.”

        • I saw a piece on the author of the books the show is based on, wouldn’t be surprised if a lot of the dialogue is from the books. Something like 2 seasons ago Givins had a line about the people having a right to keep and bear arms, don’t remember it. But at the time I thought it was good. Ment to rematch it to hear what he said more closely but never did. Pretty good writing either way.

        • Elmore Leonard was one of the greatest crime fiction writers of all time. He studied Detroit PD case files where he learned his comic insight into the stupidity of criminals.

      • The “coming faster” line was great, but I’m still partial to “When you meet an asshole in the morning, you met an asshole. When you run into assholes all day, you’re the asshole.”

      • Rayland later admitted that at the time he was mostly thinking about how cool the line was, and not so much how it could and would come back to bite him.

  8. Maybe they did that on purpose just to see if we were paying attention.

That or somebody forgot to put the pliers back after using them.

  9. Wow… And I thought the “hollow point” cartridge that Martin Riggs threatened to kill himself with in Lethal Weapon was bad… This is ridiculous!… That being said I actually think that this error was by design. A cartridge is much more recognizable to the average non-firearm owning layman than a deformed bullet… They probably thought that an accurate representation wouldn’t be recognized by the unwashed masses.

    • Actually, I know I have seen several Westerns, movies and TV, where the ol’ doc fishes a bullet out of someone and drops it in the pan of water and whiskey that he “sanitized” his hands with. And it was always just a little hunk of metal, not a whole cartridge.

      • People who watch Western films or grew up in the 1950’s when Westerns were a substantially larger portion of television programming aren’t who we’re talking about here… More so the lefty Hollywood directors and producers who know that there is a large portion of their viewing base that don’t know the difference between cartridges and bullets… Either that or they themselves don’t know the difference between cartridges and bullets… I tend to think the former. With the amount of gunplay on that show I’m sure that at least one technical advisor would tell the director that what he’s showing is BS.

        • As Hickock45 pointed out, many of the lever action rifle’s in 1870-80s movie settings, was actually in 1892 model Winchester

        • Not to mention movies set in the late 1860s–where the pistols also tend to be about 10 years in the future.

    • Exactly. That was my thought, but didn’t want to structure an entire paragraph laying on my back near Yellowstone. Laziness strikes.

    • God that’s annoying. Apparently guns make all these cocking sounds when you’re just holding them. I think all mine are defective.

I do like folks like Dynamic Pie Concepts who make fun of those cliches in their videos.

      • Or when cops go charging into a building, confront the bad guy, and to show they mean business when they order him to drop his gun, thumb the hammers on their Glocks.

    • The worst gun scene I’ve ever seen I haven’t seen since to find out what it was: I was channel-surfing and came across a lady detective who was in an ill-lit parking garage confronting a bad guy… Of course when she drew her Glock they had a revolver sound-effect, but the best was yet to come…

The bad guy advanced on her so she emphasized her willingness to shoot him by using her thumb to ‘cock’ the Glock, including a SAA triple-click sound effect!

I wonder what was going through that actress’ mind when the director told her to wiggle her thumb in the air behind the Glock as if there were a hammer there…

  10. No doubt this cartridge was part of Dallas Archer’s personal supply. Very personal.

Google Dallas Archer if you don’t get the reference.

  11. I always hate it when the lovely leading lady fishes bullets out of the hero’s body (e.g., Bourne Identity) and the rounds are right under the skin.

  12. It’s just a tv show, it’s not meant to be 100% accurate. A tv show is just meant to draw viewers in, not to speculate if a round fired into a person’s body was 100% accurate.

  13. If this were a year ago I might have thought the picture showed the last 9mm round available at Wal-Mart and the blood was shed by the shoppers fighting over it.

  14. how about “under the dome” ? one of the main charactors that “knows” about firearms and has always had one in the chamber when he has to pull it, goes to clean it, he drops the mag never racks the slide then starts waving it around and even manages to point at own head

  15. I don’t think there is a shell on that. It looks like just a bullet it to me. It should be smashed up for sure, but I can’t see a case on it. Maybe you guys have better computers than me.

  16. The recovery of an intact cartridge is no dumber than this tweet from the show’s creator.

““Watched DEVIL’S RIDE,” Sutter tweeted on May 21. “Probably get in trouble for saying this, but i’m pretty sure my SOA actors could kick the s[***] out of this ‘real’ MC.”

My fake bikers are tougher than your fake bikers? That takes brass. Whoa, pun intended?

  17. Heh. In a criminal show that shall not be named, a dude gets shot with a .223 fired from a Ruger 10/22. And then they recover a pistol bullet from his noggin.

…then again, those are the same people who can not tell a 9 mm pistol bullet from a 5.56 rifle one.

  18. During the first episode of the new season, I observed an audible pistol hammer being cocked while the character “Jax” held a glock, LoL!
