I carry a SIG SAUER P230SL with an extra magazine in a Galco holster. The knife is a Boker Haddock Zirconium folder and the light is a Surefire Stiletto.

  1. Right on Brother!

    Great combination.

I purchased my Sig 230 about 30 years ago and partnered it with a few holsters from D’Alessio.

    Stay safe.

    • I’m always looking for a fool trying to trade a 230 or 232 in .380 for something current. My wife’s Grandfather captured a German officer and brought back his 38h from WW2, that is a really nice shooting pistol. Although .32 is a bit underpowered, the fixed barrel adds to accuracy.

      • My mak has that fixed barrel. It’s much more accurate than it should be for a small sized service pistol. My son really likes it.

      • Jeff, My dad also brought back a Sauer 38H, I bought a Sig 230 several years ago and agree completely with your assessment. My personal opinion is that either the 38H or P230/P232 beat the much vaunted PP/PPK especially in the ergonomics department. P.S. a Houge rubber grip seems to position my hand low enough to avoid slide bite.

      • Neat idea, that should sit ‘flatter’ in a pocket than a traditional round light…

        • It depends on what you compare it to and what you mean by “flatter”.

A Titan Plus is, IMHO far, far less intrusive in your pocket. I carry one all the time. But, that’s a AAA powered flashlight instead of rechargeable (personally I prefer to swap batteries and the Titan’s come with a rechargeable AAA if you like that option). When you start to jump up to 123A battery powered lights you start talking a bezel diameter of ~1″ or a bit more. Usually a thinner body but, the “fat” part is gonna be an inch diameter and a OAL of 4″+ in most cases.

The Stiletto is 0.8″ thick, so yeah, compared to a “regular” SF it would be noticeably “flatter” in the pocket but still 0.22″ thicker than the diameter on an ultra compact like the Titan. So with the Titan Plus at 15/75/300 lumens and the Stiletto at 5/250/650 for an extra $10 and 0.8oz (22.6g) and an extra 1.075″ in length… I’d say you’d want to think about the tradeoffs, particularly in dimensions vs if you’re really going to use those extra lumens. The Stiletto does have that IPX-7 rating though while the Titans have none. But then my Titan has been down 4′ for probably five minutes without issues.

        • powered by 16340 rechargeable (you have to remove it; micro usb/ red and green charging leds) 700ma battery, the jetbeam raptor rrt01 v2 is just under 1″ at the widest point and 3.25ish long. the rotating collar allows for infinite unstepped variable brightness from “can’t rell if it’s on to over 900lumens. 55 to 80 depending on how much you search.

        • I have a jetbeam rrt01 it’s a cool little light and a tiny form factor but the rechargeable batteries don’t last nearly as long as you would think and they always seemed to me to drain when I wasn’t using the light. I have three rechargeable batteries I would swap out as it got low but if it died when I was not near my house I was out of luck and using a cell phone light. I got tired of having to swap them so often that I switched to a streamlight microstream. Obviously not nearly the output of the jetbeam but I’ve never felt I was lacking for light with it and it only uses one AA batt which if it dies I can pick up a new one about anywhere if I’m traveling.

      • Okay, so it’s the LIGHT that is called Stiletto…
I was struggling to think of why he would have called his pocket knife a stiletto…
        🤠

  2. Always liked the P230 (or 232).

Easy to shoot, felt good in the hand.

A little pricey and nowmeven more so.

    But a nice piece.

  3. Great choice. I Carried a Sig 232 for deep concealed Carry while doing protection for years. Great guns wish they were still being made.

I carry a Glock 42 many times now, in a Thin leather IWB Custom holster as I am a minimalist. Recommend using Remington golden sabers or the Lehigh defense extreme penetrators. Watch the tests on youtube, very effective rounds in .380.

    Cheers

  4. That is a nice Sig. There aren’t many in .380 that catch my eye but that’s something I might would consider.

  5. Stiletto? I came here thinking I would find pictures of some nice lady shoes. Boy, I sure am disappointed. Could you please post real stiletto shoe pictures with some nice guns? Thank you.

  6. Sold my P232 after shooting it twice. The gun’s slide cut two slices into the web of my hand. I could only shoot that gun with a glove on. Great gun but the slide sliced me. Maybe those with a low hold or thin hands have better luck.

    • I’ve never fired a Sig P230 but I’ve owned several Walther PPKs and sometimes the slide would cut my hand like that. And a friend insisted that I needed an extended slide release on a .45 auto and it did the same thing, only worse.

I was also wondering where the stiletto was, too, before I figured out it was the flashlight. I don’t carry a flashlight myself but maybe I should, for the dark days ahead. That knife looks awfully big, by the way.

  7. Supermatic- If you read this please watch Shooting the Bull .410 .380 ammunition testing. After personal experience with the Critical Defense in .380 against a small 4 legged vermin, I would not use it to shoot large 2 legged vermin. Less than 3 feet, headshot on a medium sized Ground Hog that was tearing up the wife’s deer blind. Entered mid skull and exited out the rear right jaw, the bullet went through and didn’t have enough energy to even dimple the chip board floor. The copper jacket mostly separated from the lead and the rodent survived, I used a shovel to finish it off as I didn’t have ear pro with me and I wasn’t going to fire a shot inside a 7×7 building. I went back through STB .410 testing and chose Hornady Custom.

    • If I recall correctly, the .380 loads using XTP bullets tended to do well in his tests. I look for them when feeding my LCP.

  8. The SIG 230 is an excellent classic pistol. Although I have the lightweight blued version, I prefer to carry the SIG P365 which is about the same size and gives me 10 plus 1 rounds of 9mm. Carry guns have improved, but you can’t beat the 230 for looks.
