Michael S. in Ohio writes . . .

Here’s what I’m carrying now:

H&K VP9SK with Meprolight R4E night sights, a 13-round extended magazine +1 Barnes 9mm +P 115gr TAC-XPD.
H&K 15-round backup mag with Underwood 9mm +P 90gr Xtreme Defender
Benchmade 553 SBK-S30V Griptillian.
Magpul DAKA Everyday Wallet
Streamlight ProTac 1L-1AA
Carbocage Keycage with Keyport MOCA package and bottle opener.

Not pictured: Pixel 3, car key and gun/mag holsters.

I alternate between a Tucker Gunleather Deep Carry DC-2 and a Sticky MD-4 Gen 1.  My mag holster is a Sticky Mag Pouch Sleeve which fits the 15-round H&K extended mag perfectly.

    • Did you try the different combinations? The VP has different interchangeable panels all around the grip.

      • Yes and I liked exactly zero of them. I still prefer my USPs or a few dozen other guns to the grip on the VP.

And… the last thing I need is another 9mm.

        • The last thing you need is the first 9mm, the first and last thing you need is a .45,. I was there when the 9 mil hut it big, as I’m sure most of us over sixty were. All the cops went to it, and then the civilian’s just had to have what the cops was shoiting. Before LEO picked it up 9mil was not that common 357 was the dog and it still is, better then a .45 in some respects. It’s truly the 30-06 of handgunms

        • Nice piece! I have an early USP Tac 45. They do feel good in the hand and a blast to shoot.

  1. Just a caveat…I’m one of those HK fanboys…I do prefer my P30SK LEM variant over the VP9SK. Just personal preference.

  2. David, I like HK too. But, old school. 91/G3, 93/33, MP5, SL7 (anyone have one for sale? Especially if you have 10 rd mags.) P7M8. The author’s carry looks solid. No experience with the pistol, but if it’s HK I’m sure it works.

    • Several years back my Bund trade in HK-4 frame cracked and I’ve been sad ever since.

The frame just could not take the.380 conversion.

Great pocket pistol, Hey bore axis just above your hand in accurate in every caliber. I had the .22, .32, and.380.

    • FYI there is a really nice and clean 93 for sale on Sturmgewehr right now. Also a really nice Galil in .308,I think it’s a 329 with four mags for a decent price.

    • It’s got a lower bore axis than the P30, and better ergonomics than the USP.

It’s striker fired so it runs better than the hammer guns.

It has a gem of a trigger with almost no creep, which I strongly prefer to H&Ks garbage DA and slack-laden SA.

  3. So…..what am I supposed to be more outraged over….
The VP9?……. because HK hates us.
The Griptilian?……….because Benchmade slept with the enemy.
    Oh the dilemma!🤔

Just kidding….nice gun…but i think i like little P30 with the LEM trigger better…..and somebody filled in the hole in your Griptilian blade …..bad..bad.

  4. A flashlight is a very important tool in anyone’s EDC. I’ve dropped my Streamlight protac 1L-1AA many times and it still works. I recommend this and an Olight USB rechargeable RCR123A battery.

      • Not enough! My wife and I took our 10 year old daughters to a high school football game on Friday the 13th blood moon. The power went pout and all the parents were trying to use their cellphone flashlights to find their kids and some were beginning to lightly panic. My wife always makes fun of me for all the shit that I carry, but when I pulled out a 1000 lumen surefire Stiletto Pro, she was praising me. I hope I never have to tell her so regarding the medical though!!!!

  5. Try the ETS mags, get the same cap, but flush fit, much less weight, empties get thrown from the gun…and the slide stays open on empty better than the OEM mags. Full-size mag is 17, or an extended is 21 rounds. CCW pistol should be carried with the rounds you sighted in with, when I was young I carried 2 different loads…147 Black Tallon, and 115 gr ball…now it is all Critical Duty 135gr. They stay with the dot, most of the way out…one dot high or low 0-80yrds. 115’s are way high at 50m.

    • Never had luck with the ETS mags in any of my guns.
Unacceptable failure rate under stress (competition) = unacceptable failure rate if my life is on the line.

  8. A firearm is a personal choice. Personally as long as a gun is reliable, I know if I train with it, I can make it work. That said, it still leaves us with our personal preferences regarding feel, conceal-ability and a number of other things, so I don’t judge. I do wonder though…If “Apocalypse/Covid panic buying is fueling first time gun owners, then in an apocalyptic environment, wouldn’t it make sense to buy something like a Glock? The world is full of them and there will always be battlefield pickups with compatible parts available, etc. Just an observation that is not directed towards the OP!
Directed towards the OP: great setup, but no medical???? I like the Dark Angel, ankle rig for medical. It has a tourniquet, 2 chest seals, homeostatic gauze and a pressure dressing. Statistically, you are far more likely to find yourself in a situation requiring medical intervention vs. a firearm.
