From the Bellingham Herald: “The Bellingham man accused of fatally shooting his wife, who was a Bellingham elementary school principal, and their two pets Thursday morning may have admitted to killing his family in Twitter replies to the National Rifle Association, the President of the United States and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell.”

Kevin Heimsoth is suspected of murdering his wife Lynn (with a handgun), their therapy dog and a cat, then attempting to commit suicide with a self-inflicted gunshot wound. He’s now in a local hospital.

While the Twitter account belonging to Kevin Heimsoth could not be verified by The Bellingham Herald or others at McClatchy, a number ofaspects point to it belonging to Kevin Heimsoth: The account is associated with email accounts and phone numbers that belong to him; the account associated with Lynn Heimsoth followed this account; she retweeted the account at least once.

The Twitter account that may have belonged to Kevin Heimsoth sent a series of four reply tweets shortly after 3 a.m. on Dec. 26 stating that the user shot and killed their wife and their dog.

According to the Daily Mail, Heimsoth then duplicated the same message, tweeting President Trump and Senate Majority Leader McConnell.

Heimsoth was apparently no fan of Trump, McConnell or the NRA.

      • better yet start shooting him in every joint he has and revive him between every shot make the coward bastard suffer because it was him that did the shooting and an AR-style does not make it any easier than any other gun

        • “That’s a waste of ammo.

A drill is more environmentally friendly.”

          Ouch.

(Makes note to self – Never piss off Strych9. *shudder*… )

        • In spite of the sick bastard’s “AR makes it easier” claim, the story specifies that he used a handgun! I wish it were possible to isolate and destroy evil people like this!

        • ‘A drill is more environmentally friendly.’

Personally I think ‘beaten to death with a hand saw’ is a highly underrated means of punishing such individuals, and it doesn’t even require electricity. And of course, ‘dipped in honey and staked to an anthill’ is a classic as well.

        • I vote for a dull plastic knife. Would not want to bugger up my good drill with that POS.

        • How about tying him to a chair, making many superficial knife cuts, and letting a hoard of sewer rats eat him alive?

I think that method was in a movie.

        • That’s okay so was the drill, the nail gun and several hundred other methods of torture…. Personally I’d load him up with heroin get him addicted and sell him as a “slave” to some underground gay sex club…..

        • “If you would know [the character of] a man, observe how he treats a cat.” ~ Robert Heinlein

… or any other animal, for that matter.
Intentionally shooting defenseless, unarmed people and animals is disgusting. Even worse, he projected his actions on blameless others. I despise and pity people like that.

        • Same here, Doc.

If someone hurt my cat, I’d hurt them real, real bad… 🙁

        • My wife (aka MY BEST FRIEND) and I care for a colony of feral cats, last count was 42, we trap them get them checked out get shots and spay/neuter then return them to the colony… We feed them daily with a mix of canned and dry (Purina), when the opportunity arises we get control of new liters and set up cages that the mother can enter to care for them but cannot remove them, at eight weeks they go to the vet and then we attempt to find good homes (not really that difficult) those that do not get placed stay with us and have the run of the house and a room full of “Cat Trees”, boxes to hide in and stuff to keep them busy.. They are a constant source of entertainment and will actually alert to noises before the dog does.. There are mornings when I have to move three or four cats just to get out of bed and there is always at least one lying on my lap watching TV.

    • That was my thought too. The wife I get, relationships can be hard, often because one or the other person is trying to make it hard. The cat… that’s a given, pest control in my book.

But the dog? That is just not right !

        • Except that my life is my lifelong best friend since we were teenagers, so…

          ****
“A good woman is a man’s best friend.”

          I just sank your battleship.

        • No, I don’t want my pittie eating that. Might make my sweet girl sick. Feed him to the Yorkies. Better yet let’s just chain him to a tree stump out in the Everglades and see what happens.

        • Moltar, plain simple Moltar,
Even Florida gators 🐊 should have Eighth Amendment protection.

      • David Bradford… [“That was my thought too. The wife I get, relationships can be hard, often because one or the other person is trying to make it hard. The cat… that’s a given, pest control in my book”.]

That comment is disturbing on a number of levls… You “GET” murdering the wife? Because, I guess some men are just too FUCKING STUPID to walk away from a “HARD” relationship? Killing a cat is PEST control? Cats kill rats, mice and other disease carrying vermin and if you live in an area with a heavy population of snakes (venomous or not) the presence of a few cats will keep the snakes away from your home. That you place a dogs life above that of another human being speaks volumes about you AND if you live in one of those “Red Flag” states you should really be careful about voicing that opion publicly, you could get an unwanted visit from local LE and who knows maybe one of them might share your mindset and is hoping for some resistance….

        • WOW !!! You are one seriously disturbed individual. Where in the hell did you see me say ANYTHING about it being OK to murder his wife? PROJECTING much?
It’s called “Crime of passion” for a reason. Even a child of 12 or 13, just beginning grasp the depth of human nature understands the concept. Even they “GET” how complex emotions between intimate partners could/would be a motivating factor in a murder suicide. No one said it was an acceptable act you fudking lunatic.

As for pest control of cats, I clearly remember 40-50 years ago wakening to the daily cacophony of the dawn chorus of song birds. Sadly, due to the explosion of feral cats across the continent, that is mostly a thing of the past. Are you one of those irresponsible cat owners that let their intact toms run the neighborhood impregnating the feral females?
          PLEASE READ THIS
          https://abcbirds.org/program/cats-indoors/cats-and-birds/

AND, Did you even watch the video doc on the dog in question? My question was…What reason could the asshole had in his mind that would in any way justify killing that dog that was even more harmless than the proverbial “Harmless as a kitten, kitten”(please refer to link above about the dangers of kittens)

If anyone here is out of line it is you suggesting that I should be RED FLAGGED. F U ASSHOLE !! You’re the kind of person that makes me prefer to be in the company of canines over humans.

        • “‘THE WIFE I GET” Hey asshole we are reading an article about a fuckbag KILLING his WIFE and YOUR comment is “the wife I get” which I read as I understand or I can see WHY he killed his wife and that’s okay… As for the cats, I have been involved in a program for several years taking care of, feeding and ensuring that ALL cats feral and domesticated are spayed/neutered….(If anyone here is out of line it is you suggesting that I should be RED FLAGGED. F U ASSHOLE !!)… Lastly I did NOT say you SHOULD be red flagged I said you COULD be red flagged if you started making statemeents like that in public…. You SHOULD probably invest in a reading comprehension class.. AND you MIGHT try to get a grip on those anger issues… You actually SAID you consider killing cats to be PEST control…

        • Cats are a non- native invasive species and predatory pests. If they ever get posted as such, much like coyotes, I will run, not walk to renew my small game hunting license. You are part of the problem but you will refuse to read the facts that point that out.
          https://www.nola.com/archive/article_eb5c5aae-d596-552f-995d-6dfbe87ce68f.html

          Then you say
“YOUR comment is “the wife I get” which I read as I understand or I can see WHY he killed his wife and that’s okay”
Yes, I said I got Why he might have done it and explained as much, BUT Where did I imply that it was okay?

“Lastly I did NOT say you SHOULD be red flagged I said you COULD be red flagged if you started making statements like that in public”

Says the fool who not but a few comments up posted
“That’s okay so was the drill, the nail gun and several hundred other methods of torture…. Personally I’d load him up with heroin get him addicted and sell him as a “slave” to some underground gay sex club…..”

YOU NEED TO TAKE YOUR OWN ADVICE
” You SHOULD probably invest in a reading comprehension class.. AND you MIGHT try to get a grip on those anger issues”

You attack me and try and put words in my mouth. I don’t have anger issues , I have an ASSHOLE issue , and it’s you.

        • Oh, here let me tell you how I really feel.

          From your post on
          December 29, 2019 at 01:36
“My wife (aka MY BEST FRIEND) and I care for a colony of feral cats, last count was 42”

Just goes to show you ARE the proverbial “Crazy Cat Lady”.

The fact that you now have 42 wild predatory animals showing up at your door that you choose to bait for your personal entertainment shows you have little or no respect for the wildlife or the ecosystem in which you live. Cats are genetically predisposed to hunt, and no amount of food will stop the behavior. Cats will kill (and I assure you they are now) just because it is their nature to do so, hungry or not.  42 predators hunting from a centralized location of your back door is unsustainable by any stretch of the imagination. Tell me, when was the last time you saw a bird perched, or a rabbit or squirrel running in your neighborhood? Maybe there are a few left, but tell me what was the neighborhood like BEFORE you started keeping wild animals on your property? You are a loony living in a fantasy world of unicorns and rainbows if you can’t see the damage you and the colony are wrecking on the landscape.

in my best Greta Thunberg impersonation, “SHAME ON YOU”!!!

So, go ahead and be mad at me for pissing on your little fantasy. Maybe you can go get some comfort from the snowflakes in their gun free “safety” zones, because you have a lot in common with your fanciful thinking that your efforts are having any positive effect.

        • Sounds like you are the “MAD” one.. Those cats don’t come to my door, I don’t bait them, I particiate in a fuction with about 50 other concerned citizens that is regulated by our county to not only try to keep the feral cat population disease free by ensuring they have at least a rabies and feline leukemia shot and attempting to REDUCE the feral cat population by getting them spayed/neutered and keeping them in their habitat away from HATERS like you… I’ve seen six cats killed this year by obvious rat poisoning (not a pretty sight). You assumed that I keep feral cats on my property which once again lends to that lack of reading comprehension and shows your ignorance of these programs… There are 20+ feral colonies in the area all cared for by individuals at their own expense (food) and at reduced cost services provided by local vets with some financial help from the county for spay/neuter cost, resulting in no cases of rabies in our county for over 5 years and a humane reduction in feral cat population of over 25%. Of course haters like you can alwas just go out and shoot them or feed them rat poison or (a hater favorite) soak them in lighter fluid and burn them alive (bet you would enjoy that).. You are a sick fuck that would put a dogs life above a human being and you are pissed because you were called on it… And oh by the way, unlike the guy with the drill or the nail gun, you bet your ass I would do exactly what I said to that fuckbag, I would have NO qualms about sendng that piece of shit to his own personal hell for the rest of his natural life, beats the hell out of supporting his ass in prison for life, and there are many other degenerate shits that deserve the same thing… If you have a poblem with that then go fuck yourself… That being said I do NOT have to explain mysrelf to you or any one else and have actually carried this further than I really needed to. So, if I’ve pissed you off that’s too bad, you think I’m an asshole, you really have no idea just how much of an asshole I CAN be… So, just take your little butt-hurt self and fuck off because I could give a shit less how you “REALLY FEEL” Bye now.

    • Oh, but not for killing his wife?? Innocent (Emphasis innocent, murderers are worth less than slime) Human life is more valuable than any canines. A big issue today is that no one values human life. The man should be strung up for killing his wife AND the dog.

  1. “then attempting to commit suicide with a self-inflicted gunshot wound. He’s now in a local hospital.”

Unless he blew off half his face and miraculously survived, I’m thinking he never actually tried to off himself. He just wanted it to look that way to gain a little sympathy.

    Sympathy for the devil.

      • Nothing like predator face, no eyes, no nose, no teeth, just a valley of hamburger where the face used to be and of course, the bullet glances off before trashing the brain, if there ever was one.

People should familiarize themselves with the picture of the kid who chewed on a blasting cap.

        • I know someone who tried to kill themselves with a 30-30 back in the late 70’s. He was unsuccessful but, did blow most of his lower jaw and chin off the left side of his face. Managed to live a mostly productive life afterwards. Only cowards take other lives with them. About 5 or 6 years ago a young girl waited on a train at a crossing with her dog. Then pulled in front of the train as it passed by. Taking her and the dogs life. Sick people should be afforded every opportunity to kill themselves if they wish. We need to remove the stigma of suicide and provide the place and tools necessary for people complete the job. If they so wish. As well as counseling if they want it. Much in the way it was portrayed in Soylent Green.

        • When Kevin Meets God for banishment to hell for Murdering his family God will make him read the Question, was it the M14 Rifles fault in the movie? Hell No ! Well Pyle did it the right way,in Full Metal Jacket.A USMC Rifleman will show you how.All it is needed is will and motive and pyle had it all.and did it the right way,he died a coward.

        • Dark man,

You need to read OATH OF FEALTY by Niven and Pournelle. A massive archology (entire city in one two mile by two mile by 1,000 foot high building) had a problem with suicidal people jumping off the roof. Their solution was fencing the entire perimeter except one gap where they installed a high diving board. Unfortunately; most suicidal people became to irate to jump. They also had an automated system to deploy a safety net. However; it did avert lawsuits.

        • @Darkman but if people are actually sick shouldn’t we try to help them instead of just giving up on them and giving them the tools to waste themselves? I was about to agree with your statement of suicidal people killing others but then I just had the brilliant idea of giving those people suicide vests and sending them in to blow up terrorists kamikaze style. It’s alright for a truly suicidal person to take out others as long as they are taking out the right people. No innocent pets though. That’s just too cruel. Lol

      • Being a surgeon specializing in facial trauma most attempted suicides with a firearm to the head fail because most do not have a good grasp of anatomy and also grossly overestimate the size of the brain. As such most miss the vital goodies and take off some pieces of face and some teeth.

        • …and the sinus cavity and eyes, I’ve heard.

The person I knew who offed himself survived 3 and a half hours before thankfully expiring.

And he left one hell of a mess for his 85 year-old widowed mother to deal with…

        • Geoff “I’m getting too old for this shit” PR,
Most of my patients in this predicament survive a much longer “rest of their lives.” Sometimes even long enough to come back years later to thank me for turning their lives around.

      • Exactly, it should be just like the instructions on an airplane:
“In the unlikely event of a sudden loss of cabin pressure, oxygen masks will drop down from the panel above your head… Secure your own mask before helping others”
        Just extrapolate.

    • Actually, if you shove it under your chin and yank the trigger there’s a good chance the billet will miss your brain entirely; I seem to recall the surviving Boston bomber did something similar when he was cornered by SWAT. The brain comprises less than half of the head in terms of surface area

    • I hope he did blow his face off. In fact, I’m almost sure he did. People do that in botched suicides more often than you might think.

And if he lives, I hope he has one eye left so that he can see the hideous remnants every remaining day of his life.

  2. What a loser…did they abolish the death penalty in Washington? Sure didn’t help Illinois when our felon governor Ryan(but I digress) did just that.

    • This POS used a handgun and blames the AR for making killing easier. So how did the evil AR do it? Was he wearing a T-shirt with a picture of an AR?

  3. How can anyone (in their right mind …makes it moot) even attempt to blame the N.R.A, Trump or McConnell? Blaming an AR-15 when he used a handgun is a tipoff that somebody is using this tragedy for political propaganda. I’m sure the MSM will latch onto this garbage without any questions.

    • Well, if he couldn’t have had a firearm because they were now all banned for general public use, he’d likely have gotten everyone into the family Chevy, run it into some solid barrier and tweet/post that GM was at fault for letting him have the 4 wheeler… Best not to dwell on this sort of junk- it may be used by some of the whacked out lefties but it doesn’t take even an uniformed observer to figure out that it’s all bogus/BS.

On the other hand, I wonder how many people that know this guy would say today that they always thought he’d pull something like this? Food for thought.

I’m in absolutely no manner suggesting any of the idiot ERPOs might have prevented it but it might be interesting to follow up with friends/acquaintences.

In the end, Flip Wilson probably had it right 30 years ago…

      • “On the other hand, I wonder how many people that know this guy would say today that they always thought he’d pull something like this?”

They do often telegraph it, plenty loud and clear, I bet if you look this guy has made comments about his anger problems and violent urges, while projecting his issues onto us gun owners. But everyone that knows him likely fawned over him, and just how passionate he is about the issue! :-/

I keep waiting for my town’s local crazy anti-gun nutjob to show up in the news like this.

  4. Nice going TRUMP. Most of this s*** started when you became President.(?)
One day you and Mc Connell will be looking up at us saying “Oh, I’m so sorry Boo-Hoo.” Yeah right.

    • Yeah there was no mass murders or any lunatics killing their whole families before Trump, Wow! you’re dumb as a box of rocks snowflake, do us all a favor, put on your tinfoil hat and find a bridge to see if you can fly off of, TRUMP/PENCE 2020 Best president in history

      • No he doesn’t. People like him and vlad can’t get a job. They’re too unstable and it shows come interview time. They are socialists because they want a life long tit to suck on.

        • Actually, the posts from Vlad The Cisco Impaler From Other Planets (all the personas) are too long for someone who has a job. Even I jot down short comments/replies here and there in-between work (both at home and at the job). But when Vladskie posts, you can tell he/she/it takes long lengths of time to write.

Unless Vladskie’s getting paid to spend all his/her/its time doing this.

  5. The murderers Email comments will be used by anti-gun groups, politicians and media to push their agenda. The problem is that doing so is the same as using a terrorists manifesto to support their positions. This is a very selective and using the words of a self professed murderer aligned with his criminal acts to sway opinions or degrade recipients. Recipients do not control content sent to them and can only take action after the fact. Several Serial Killers and bombers have sent correspondence to news organizations and that never equates to recipient defamation but watch the accusatory shrill apply the blame game on this one.

  6. I’m going to make a decision to do a bad thing and blame a third party and an inanimate object? Genius. He should run for office if he survives and recovers. I can see him now… “Look what the NRA did to my family and I!”

    • So who do you use to lobby for your pasty, unable to get laid, fat ass? Antifa?
Go back to your mommy’s basement, retard.

    • Your comment only tells us about you. Do you honestly think anything you type here is going to hurt me? On the other hand, I could teach you a lot about hurt.

        • LOL NRA says:
          December 28, 2019 at 15:09
Oh boy I’m real scared. Another typical Keyboard Commando.

Another attempt to project “Self reflection” onto others, typical “liberal troll” practice…….

    • You’re not going to get on the Soros paid troll list with that short little drivel. Need to stretch it out to at least a paragraph.

  7. Anyone else disturbed that this vile, evil, degenerate was an ELEMENTARY SCHOOL PRINCIPLE?
These are the unhinged leftist teaching OUR children……

    • The wife was the elementary school principal.
      NOT the shooter.
I put that on two different lines because,
you apparently don’t understand what commas are used for.

    • The murdered spouse was the principal at a school…not the murderer.

He is a pathetic excuse of a person blaming everything / everyone OTHER than himself for his actions. A despicable coward.

  8. The evil within this person would have found a way no matter what – it is all about the person, not the weapon.
Typical sociopathic Democrat – following the script and agenda to the end.

  9. Any chance this was done in whole or part for “the greater good”, to provide a fresh example of why they’re right and we’re wrong?

This seems insanely strange, I know lunatics…

But what if wife was looking for an out, crazy man too, why not stage it for possible political gain. A wise man once said to never let a crisis go to waste. We think of that in a broad way, but what if individuals decided to live that way?

  10. This person needs the book “How to Kill Yourself” it was available to anyone that wanted to kill themselves in boot camp. Governor Inslee, (I wont give the dignity of correctly spelling his name) did away with the death penalty in this state when he took office. Maybe the inmates will finish the job for him. If life was so bad, he just should have walked off the deck of a cruise ship or shot himself. But to kill his wife and pets, that is just too much for me to understand. Bring back public executions.

    • I’m so sick of Inslee and AG Ferguson. God I hope Fortunato wins. You should Google Spokane news about this guy that killed his girl friend here yesterday or the day before. It’s mind boggling.

  11. Murdered his wife yes but “killed”his pets it is not possible to murder an animal it is only something you can do to another human being.… just saying.

    • Clue – Some folks consider pets a member of their family.

You can parse it any way you want, but for pet owners, ‘murder’ is close enough to qualify for them…

    • Somehow my reply ended up in the wrong place.
“Not just a school shooting, but a school mass shooting. Three lives were taken and four were shot. Sounds like a clear cut school mass shooting per libertard definition.”

  12. Liberalism is a mental disorder, obviously he is a sick individual…I know many liberals who hate guns and gun owners because they project THEIR illness, THEIR anger issues on others and blame others for their issues.

  13. The NRA has nothing to do with any of it.

The 2nd Amendment allowed him to have his guns. NOT the NRA.

But I would like to know if this lunatic recently bought his guns passing a background check or if it’s something else.

  14. Stake him up at 100 yards and let people take shots with FMJ 5.56. No head or center mass shots allowed. Patch him up with tourniquet for any heavy bleeders. Let him experience the awesome accuracy of an AR15 till he’s dead. Then burn him at the stake and blow what’s left into worm food with a bucket of binary mix.

  15. Weak and cowardly indeed. If he were stronger, he wouldn’t even consider killing his wife and dog over something that I wager is trivial.

10 bucks he was some anti-gun troll on some gun related social media page. This is something I seriously believe they would do to for political clout. Seems their own families aren’t safe from them…

    • Sadly, you’re probably correct. His evil acts will be forgiven by the Progressives as they extoll his (attempted) martyrdom for “taking one for the team”.

        • And I guess compared to el Che (having had first hand experience with the evil Argentine), he really was a nice guy by comparison (not Che, but this triple species murderer). Che Guevara was so dangerous that even the Castro brothers had to see him offed for the Castro’s own good.

  16. Take him into the desert, make him strip naked, nail his testicles to an ironwood tree, give him a single edge razor blade, and walk away. Problem solved.

  17. Not just a school shooting, but a school mass shooting. Three lives were taken and four were shot. Sounds like a clear cut school mass shooting per libertard definition.

  18. a coward and a liberal, blaming everyone else for his disgusting actions and choices.. p.o.s. liberaltards always blaming everyone and everything for their selfish, self-righteous, idiotic actions.. hope this mf’er burns in hell for eternity

  19. Yeah so he’s a murdering twisted evil inhuman monster and not one word he speaks will be true or worth listening too.

So stand him up against a wall in lion habitat, take a few low shots with a .22 Short, nothing to kill him just create a few leaks and some reasons to moan and whimper. Now let the lions into the habitat and head out to your favorite steak house.

    Or a ports bar.

Maybe a nice Italian family restaurant.

Hey, the zoo critters are going to their lunch, why shouldn’t you?

  20. Guess a gun didn’t make killing himself that much easier. If you can’t off yourself with a rifle you suck at life and\or fail anatomy.

  21. Maddmaxx, thank you for taking care of God’s creatures.

As for you, Mr Bradford, take a chill pill and read up on the
Black Plague. A twenty-six page article and not a single positive
    attribute contributed to the feline.

This from the reportee, “Scientists estimate that between 60 and 160 million feral cats roam the United States.”

From grawker.com article, “The United States is home to over 318 million people and 2.27 billion acres of land. By 2003, we had only developed about 108 million acres, or about 4.47% of the total land area of the United States. The map above is a great way to visualize that unused land — the areas highlighted in green show all of the U.S. Census blocks that show a population of zero.”

Ms Meiners, did not do her home work but rather relied upon “scientests” for
what I suspect to be faulty estimates. It would represent at minimum .6 of a
kat per acre or as high as 1.6 kat per acre. With a density as such, it would
make seeing a kat almost a daily occurrence.

More disinformation from the reporter, Ms Meiners.

“3. Outdoor cats kill between 1.4 billion and 3.7 billion songbirds every year

    From the treehugger.com:

“Biologist Melanie Driscoll, from the National Audubon Society, estimates that a whopping 5 billion birds die every year in the United States — equating to roughly 13.7 million birds dying every day. The causes of these deaths, of course, are varied; millions of bird die of ‘natural’ causes, according to a government led study, but there are plenty of factors keeping them from that demise, many of which are close to home. One report indicates that as many as 39 million birds a year in the US are killed by rural cats alone.”

Ms Driscoll, who is a biologist and not a student [Taliban] adds more to the subject.

“Such factors driving bird deaths remain, for the most part, unreported particularly among the mainstream media which has become so captivated by these most recent, and albeit more dramatic, mass die offs. “It is the story that the press and the public have largely missed, and it is important, and timely, given the current concern,” Driscoll told the Times.

These recent large scale animal deaths, wherein thousands of birds inexplicably fall from the sky, are certainly fodder for speculation as to what form of human activity may be behind it, but in the everyday reality for conservationists, the culprit is something far more sinister than top-secret government testing — it’s systemic activities and infrastructure so commonplace that the death they cause is not discussed.

Ultimately, the public’s fascination with the die-offs is rooted in the concern that all may not be right between man and nature — and that perhaps finally the scales have been tipped irrevocably, meaning we may be next. But as the stories fade from the headlines, perhaps we’ll be too enraptured in the next news cycle to even breathe a sigh of relief that the problem has ‘passed’, so we’ll carry on.

There is indeed something troubling about those mass deaths, but whether or not human activities are responsible for a few thousand bird corpses here and there isn’t really the point. 13.7 million wild birds died today in the United States and it’s unmentioned because there’s little doubt that we have something to do with most them.”

    From the NY Slime.

“Pesticides kill 72 million birds directly, but an unknown and probably larger number ingest the poisons and die later unseen. Orphaned chicks also go uncounted.
And then there is flying into objects, which is most likely what killed the birds in Arkansas. The government estimates that strikes against building windows alone account for anywhere from 97 million to nearly 976 million bird deaths a year. Cars kill another 60 million or so. High-tension transmission and power distribution lines are also deadly obstacles. Extrapolating from European studies, the Fish and Wildlife Service estimates 174 million birds die each year by flying into these wires. None of these numbers take into account the largest killer of birds in America: loss of habitat to development.”

“Referring to a 2016 study that evaluated the impacts of invasive predators, Kauskik Narasimhan, a New Orleans resident and PhD student in Ecology at Tulane University”

Hear is the study, which the “reporter” failed to author.

    https://www.pnas.org/content/113/40/11261

“Rodents are linked to the extinction of 75 species (52 bird, 21 mammal, and 2 reptile species; 30% of all extinctions) and cats to 63 extinctions (40, 21, and 2 species, respectively; 26%) whereas red foxes, dogs (Canis familiaris), pigs (Sus scrofa), and small Indian mongoose (H. auropunctatus) are implicated in 9–11 extinctions each (Fig. 2). For all threatened and extinct species combined, cats and rodents threaten similar numbers of species (430 and 420 species, respectively), followed by dogs (156 species), pigs (140 species), mongoose (83 species), red foxes (48 species), stoats (30 species) (Fig. 2)”

Let’s put this missive in perspective. From the WWF.

“Just to illustrate the degree of biodiversity loss we’re facing, let’s take you through one scientific analysis…

The rapid loss of species we are seeing today is estimated by experts to be between 1,000 and 10,000 times higher than the natural extinction rate.*
These experts calculate that between 0.01 and 0.1% of all species will become extinct each year.
If the low estimate of the number of species out there is true – i.e. that there are around 2 million different species on our planet** – then that means between 200 and 2,000 extinctions occur every year.
But if the upper estimate of species numbers is true – that there are 100 million different species co-existing with us on our planet – then between 10,000 and 100,000 species are becoming extinct each year.”

No, I am afraid, Mr Bradford, that you did not do your due diligence in this matter but rather allowed your contempt and visceral hatred of felines to cloud your judgement.

Responsible pet owners are not the problem and neither are the kats, rather
irresponsible pet owners whom treat creatures as disposable objects.

If you lay blame upon the kat for bird kills then you may as well do likewise
    with firearms.

    • Hans,
Thank you for your level headed response. I find it quite refreshing to hear a rational argument put forth to an opposing view without having to endure character assassination, scurrilous accusations and general childishness.(for the most part)

“As for you, Mr Bradford, take a chill pill and read up on the
      Black Plague. ”

I am chill. My issue with MADD Mr. MAXX was that, having been triggered by my reference to cats as pests, he proceeded to attack me with wholly unfounded accusations about my beliefs and intentions.

(MAXX says: “You “GET” murdering the wife? Because, I guess some men are just too FUCKING STUPID to walk away from a “HARD” relationship? Killing a cat is PEST control? “)(“That you place a dogs life above that of another human being speaks volumes about you “)(“if you live in one of those “Red Flag” states you should really be careful about voicing that opion publicly, you could get an unwanted visit from local LE and who knows maybe one of them might share your mindset and is hoping for some resistance….”)

I took umbrage to those accusations. At no point did I, state, imply, or elude to any form suggesting the it was Okay to kill the woman, nor did I in any regard to a dogs value against a human life. I did say I believe cats to be pests( although I should have been more clear that I meant FERAL cats). And, I especially took issue with him saying that based on “his false claims” about me that I should start worrying that I could be RED FLAGGED and he hoped (crazy cop) violence on me. I responded to his rant, explaining that he was imparting far to much meaning to my comment. I explained “I get the wife” meant I understood that it was a crime of passion, motivated by emotion and not reason and I did not say it was an acceptable excuse to murder anyone. I also gave reason for my view of cats as pests and provided a link to better explain my thinking. I followed up with a terse statement about how inappropriate it is to suggest ANYONE be red flagged, that, that statement pissed me off and he should F’off.

No, I am not a fan of cats. I could care less if anyone wants one for a pet or not. I recognize there is problem with feral and outdoor cats. But I do not loose sleep over it. It is not my thing. I have no (your words) visceral hatred of felines.. I heartily agree with the statement “Responsible pet owners are not the problem… “. But, by your own admission and the documentation provided, there is a problem and that feral cats ARE some part of that problem. I just wanted to point out that no matter how well intentioned Mr. MAXX’s efforts are, that they are counter productive on the whole.

But hey, I’m cool. Not the first time someone online tried to twist what I said to make me out as a monster of some sort to hide that fact that I just may be right and they don’t have a rational argument to question my point.

      • Mr Bradford, sorry for the lengthy delay. I do not approve
of MADDMAXX’s uncivil reply to you. Such comments blights
this fine website. The Admin should take immediate disciplinary
        action to correctoe such behavior.

“I just wanted to point out that no matter how well intentioned Mr. MAXX’s efforts are, that they are counter productive on the whole.”

And what would be your final solution, Mr Bradford? These are God’s animals,
no different than the ones in the wild, which so many, including our family provide
        feed and funding.

        • “And what would be your final solution, Mr Bradford? These are God’s animals,
no different than the ones in the wild, which so many, including our family provide
          feed and funding.”

          Hans,
Final solution? That would be a question for people with far more understanding of the facts than I, myself have access to. I understand how this is a touchy subject with many because people have an emotional affinity toward house cats. However, that being said we, especially the POTG, know that emotional FEELINGS should not over rule facts. This is a problem that should be dealt with pragmatically and not let ourselves be influenced with sentimentality for our personal pets. Feral cats are a non-native invasive species, not unlike feral hogs, Nutria, Burmese pythons, and Tegus here in the U.S. and those cute little bunny rabbits in Australia. These and many more have been introduced into environs (most as pets or livestock) that hold no real predatory pressure outside humans. We humans as a species have created this imbalance in the natural balance God’s creature’s lives. We created the problem and I feel it is our obligation to the natural world, at the very least attempt, to rectify the imbalance of their population in the wild. We need to contain and eliminated these invaders if there is to be any hope of controlling the proliferation. YES, and that means killing feral cats too when possible. You can’t house them all and they just can’t be allowed to roam free.

  22. Mr Bradford, hear is a delightful kat story and what they
mean to millions of kat lovers.

Working with two rescues over the past 15 years, I see little afford made
by the general population to assist either dogs or cats. I doubt there
is a ratio of over one to a thousand, whom in someways provides material
support for our beloved dogs and kats.

Are there issues with feral kats? Undoubtedly, however, there is little in the
form of public or private assistance.

Others think there are other solutions, rather than mass liquidations.

Perhaps, in the end, Mr Bradford, you maybe correct but I do not think
it will be the final solution to this problem.

The rat is # one in an effecting wildlife. Damm, I never knew dat.

    https://www.deakin.edu.au/about-deakin/media-releases/articles/invasive-predators-major-cause-of-species-extinctions

“Non-native rats pose far more danger to wildlife than just spreading disease, with new Deakin University research showing they are high on a list of invasive mammalian predators that have contributed to more than half the globe’s bird, mammal, and reptile species extinctions over the past 500 years.”

We cannot even control the rat population [unless they are in CONgress] and
now a new front for mass killing of kats, loved by millions.

I have lived in the burbs all of my life and never have witness a kat colony.

Using quackquackgo, I could only find two field studies!?!?

    https://urbanwildliferesearchproject.com/feeding-the-feral-a-study-on-feral-cats-environmental-impact/

Frankly, there are no easy solutions to this issue. And yes, I enjoy many of
the creatures which the felines kills, but the answer of mass extermination
if only and when an equally effect is made to reduce feral kats through humane
    actions have failed.

My Indian friend is now referring to me as ” non-native invasive species.”
I hope he does not read the comment section!
