Guns Down author Igor Volsky has his own vision for what it means to be a patriotic American. How great is that?

…Eighty percent of the (American) Rifleman editorials that portrayed gun owners as being under threat used identity language that portrayed gun owners in a positive light. of the pro-gun letter to the editors Lacombe analyzed, 64% relied on identity language. The NRA’s members were internalizing and echoing its message.

This explains a lot, but it also holds some lessons for gun control advocates.

All too often we use wonky language and stats to explain why we support this law or that. But maybe what we need to do is reclaim and redefine what it means to be a patriotic American as it relates to gun ownership.

Being a patriotic American means raising the standard for how firearms are produced and purchased. The firearms industry must be regulated. And people who choose to own a firearm should prove to their neighbors and their communities that they could own one responsibly.

These are the building blocks for a new American future, one with fewer guns in circulation.

    • Being a patriotic American also means educating yourself on things like the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution, Bill of Rights and their history. That would include among other things, the 2nd Amendment. It’s pretty obvious Igor needs to hit the books a little more before he lectures the rest of us.

    • Igor Volsky failed U S civics but then he really doesn’t care as he is a useful idiot for Marxism, next Moron.

    • I like how I need to prove something. More of the ol’ leftist guilty until proven innocent garbage. Has this guy proven his iq is high enough to even be permitted to have an opinion? What if he’s another NPC, maybe he should be forcibly silenced by the state until he proves his right.

      • “What if he’s another NPC,”
I think he might be one of those “Russian Bots” the leftists are always screaming about.

    • Being a Patriotic American means Fuck You Weasel Boy.

I do not know you nor do I care to. I would NEVER presume to tell you how to live.

Leave my life and natural rights to me.

      • Agreed. Dissecting the language of gun owns for the purpose of reducing gun ownership is manipulation. Attempting to do with persuasion what you would not do with force. Until there are less people with guns, then the real purpose of their goal will be clear.

  1. WTF is a “volsky”, and why would anyone care?

We’re supposed to listen to definitions of patriotism from some doofus named Igor for chrissake Volsky? This is a joke, right?

        • it does not matter if they have a D after their name or an R or any other letter for that matter, if they support taking someones rights when they have committed no actual crime (eg there MUST be a victim) then they are a communist/fascist or any other ist you care to name and should be dragged out and hung as a traitor.

    • He’s author/founder of “Guns Down America” –basically a rabid, drooling, implacable anti-gunner of the worst variety. Props to Time for at least mentioning that in their article (his connection, not the accurate description)

Yeah, I’m supposed to believe mister “fewer guns in circulation” will be satisfied by my continuing to demonstrate my responsibility by obeying a veritable minefield of gun laws, and by complying with an arcane & expensive dealer-licensing/background-check system, and by outright registration of a huge portion of the guns out there (NFA). “Guns down” means guns, down.

A not-so-quick-due-to-obvious-censorship Google search reveals these guys are in bed with “endmurderinsurance.org” and was a gay-marriage-issues writer for none other than Capo Bloomberg on thinkprogress.org before that. Remember when all those gay-rights guys said they’d be turning their attention to gun control in order to justify their wages after Obergefell? That’s what this guy is.

      • It’s amazing how many POG in the section are using goofle(there are multiple comments below). You rail about this guy Volsky, condemn Dick’s, curse Benchmade, and then freely use goofle, when so many better alternatives exist.

goofle is doing more to undermine you and this Republic than any of the above mentioned can even dream about.

Your bitching and moaning lacks any credibility when you goo…(gle).

      • He’s a Russian born connoisseur of anal sex. He formerly worked at thinkprogress which is an assemblage of democrat terrorists, where he advocated for homosexuality. He is now the founder of this gun control group.

  2. ‘Being a patriotic American means raising the standard for how firearms are produced and purchased. The firearms industry must be regulated. And people who choose to own a firearm should prove to their neighbors and their communities that they could own one responsibly.’

Alright. Done! 8:00am and we can all take the rest of the day off, satisfied that the firearms industry IS regulated and people who choose to own firearms DO have to prove to their neighbors and communities that they can own one (or several) responsibly. Mission accomplished.

  3. First of all, he might want to Google the meaning of patriotism! All of these clowns have one thing in common, they refuse to address the issue of ” criminals” usually life long criminals, using stolen guns to cause the mayhem we’re accused of causing.

  4. Patriotism means bowing to regulation and the surveillance state? I suppose it could. If that was my nation I’ll happily not be patriotic.

  5. These gun owners HAVE proven that they’re responsible: by not being convicted of a felony. I’d like to hear this statist’s response to the fact that on average, concealed carry license holders are more law abiding and less violent than police officers. If that’s not responsible enough for this government worshiper then he go to one of his gun utopia’s in Europe or even Venezuela or Cuba or Mexico.

  6. Being a Patriotic American means believing in and supporting the American infrastructure, defending or contributing to the local and federal communities in which we place ourselves, being loyal to one’s country, and supporting one’s fellow Citizens and their Rights, as laid out in our Constitution.

Take your “we can change words and their meanings,” weasel tactics and shove them up your ass, you power mongering fuck-wit.

  7. “All too often we use wonky language and stats to explain why we support this law or that.”

    Facts. We call those facts.

Aren’t these the same assholes constantly defaming “patriotism” as an irrational emotional characteristic, that is really a feint for various ‘identity’ causes (read: racism)?

I notice that Mr. Volsky’s language is almost entirely composed of ‘identity’ language while he simultaneously denounces it, seeing as he’s attempting to describe and manipulate gun owners as a monolithic group. This guy’s image of “us” is that we’re red-blooded ‘murica-lovin’ good ol’ boys, and that if he can simply re-write the “‘murica-lovin'” part to mean “gun control” through Orwellian propaganda, he thinks he can get “us” mindless morons to dance to his tune & give up our lawful property & liberty.

He’s probably right about some gun owners, maybe even a sizeable portion of the Fudds out there, but not enough to move the needle in the end, and not anyone that has an actual attachment & awareness of the politics & morality of the issue –which is more & more gun owners every day.

  8. “These are the building blocks for a new American future, one with fewer guns in circulation.”

Whoops, dropped the mask a bit there, buddy!

  9. “And people who choose to own a firearm should prove to their neighbors and their communities that they could own one responsibly.”

No- In the US, everyday people are not expected to continually prove their own “innocence”, let alone “responsibilities”. That goes against the foundational principals of this nation.

Talk about reclaiming the language? Brush it off and move on.

  10. “Igor Volsky” Hmmmmm…..sounds vaguely…..Russian….

Seem to recall *Somebody* (can’t remember who) telling me that Russians we’re subverting our democracy or something-something-something.

    • There are millions of good, god fearing, patriotic american’s with Russian, Jewish, German, Spanish, Chinese and whatever have you sounding surnames. Just as there are millions of Clinton’s, Reid’s, Boxer’s, Pelosi’s, Gifford’s, Holder’s, Clapper’s, Murphy’s, and Malloy’s. We are an idea, not a tribe.

      • The identity and definition of “American” is tied to belief in, and practice of, a certain value system. Claiming citizenship or paying taxes doesn’t mean sh*t.

      • Volsky is Jewish, and unfortunately, as is more often than not the case with American Jews, he is a radical socialist/communist. And most of the other American Jews are neocon, Israel-first Bolsheviks disguised as “Republicans”. There seems to be very few American Jews who are pro gun/American values.

This is the very inconvenient reality we face, especially since most politicians won’t touch this in fear of being labeled “anti-semitic” and losing their major donors, which more often than not tend to be Jewish (Adelson for Trump, and something like over half of Clinton’s campaign funds came from Jewish donors, despite Jews only making up around 2% of the US population).

        • Your assessment is off based. I’m Jewish. Im an “America firster”, a 2A absolutist and an active, militant 3%er. We are out here. Ready, willing, able and anxious to preserve/protect our Constitutional Republic by any means necessary.

  11. Notice he’s aiming this at “NRA members” and not, say, “The Crips”. He doesn’t really want to reduce gun violence (whatever that means): he wants to disarm people who aren’t criminals.

  12. Being a patriotic American means raising the standard for how firearms are produced and purchased.

Did I somehow miss reports or statistics of firearms being produced in an unsafe manner? Are firearms malfunctioning? As for how firearms are purchased: law-abiding gun owners already jump through more hoops to purchase a firearm than are required for just about any other lawful item.

Criminals, of course, continue to steal their firearms and ignore existing laws regarding possession and purchase – because criminals are neither compelled nor constrained by laws.

The firearms industry must be regulated.

How so, and to what end?

And people who choose to own a firearm should prove to their neighbors and their communities that they could own one responsibly.

400 million firearms owned by 100 million law-abiding citizens provide more than ample evidence of responsible ownership. Regardless: our constitutionally protected right of due process, and the presumption of innocence that derives from that right, mean that we don’t have to prove anything to you, our neighbors, our communities, or to anyone else.

These are the building blocks for a new American future, one with fewer guns in circulation.

Thankfully, your Orwellian pipe dream will never become a reality. I’ve seen what happens when your Brave New World of disarming the law-abiding becomes a reality. #NeverAgain

    • With Hesse/Vulcan and Lorcin/Raven out of business, guns are safer than ever. I mean, the crummiest guns available today are Hi Points…which are anything but unsafe, and generally are even reliable. The closest thing to an actual unsafe gun in recent memory was probably the R51 (I don’t count the SIG as its drop-safe issue was still in the realm of ‘freak accident’ rarity) and even it never blew up & hurt anyone that I know of.

    • ” The firearms industry must be regulated.

How so, and to what end?”

He gets to that, with “These are the building blocks for a new American future, one with fewer guns in circulation.”

      Less. Guns.

And the only way to do that, is to forcibly take them.

I applaud his honesty, he’s not beating around the bush, talking out of the side of his mouth, etc., like so many of his ‘Gun Safety’ advocates, like the ‘Mad Mommies’.

He wants someone to forcibly take our guns.

      Game on!

  13. Being a patriotic American means raising the standard for how spoken and written communication is created and disseminated. The communication industry must be regulated. And people who choose to engage in such discourse should prove to their neighbors and their communities that they could do so responsibly.

These are the building blocks for a new American future, one with only proper communications in circulation.

    • I was thinking of adapting his words the exact same way to demonstrate how tyrannical his ideas actually are. Well done!

  14. nyet comrade volsky. Just nyet… Well no I might throw in a few swear words and a thing or two about your mother smelling of elder berries and your father being a mange afflicted gerbil.

  15. Since when are there any social litmus tests in order to exercise a God given right? Prove to your neighbors that you’re responsible???? Lol.

  16. That video should come with a Level 5 Smug Alert warning. That guy is very, very impressed with himself.

    • I’d have to imagine such big fans of anal sex as this guy, must necessarily enjoy the smell of their own farts.

  17. So being a patriotic American means making yourself an enemy of this country’s Constitution and fundamental, explicitly protected human Rights? Who knew?

  18. If I were to attempt to describe what is meant by the term “free country” in a nutshell, it would mean one where the State must justify the restrictions it places on the liberty of individuals, as opposed to one where the individual must justify each liberty.

  19. I’ve no problem with LGBT people. Certainly I do not understand how people become any of those things, but it appears to be a natural variance of the human condition and does me no injury, costs me no money (I’m very T. Jefferson on many such things). So that part of this former Russian Igor Volsky character is a non issue.

Problem is he makes it a key part of his gun control campaign. He went thru a bitter divorce when he figured out his sexuality. Then came mass shootings of both gay people and of Jewish people, two of his deepest psychological triggers. He says he was born in the Soviet Union and experienced lots of discrimination towards Jews, and his family escaped to the USA.

Igor Volsky is in his early 30’s. His description of growing up under the thumb of Soviet oppression of Jews simply doesn’t add up. He’d of been a toddler when the USSR fell apart.

Since then he’s been traumatized by realizing he’s gay, going thru a bitter divorce, the Pulse Nightclub massacre of LGBT people and the Tree of Life synagogue shooting. His advocacy for all things gun control is an expression of that emotional damage.

People like Volsky are the worst sort of emotional cripples. They take their damage, which otherwise I could empathize with, and instead of dealing with it they push it out upon others. Instead of dealing with their internal issues they invent a boogeyman out of thin air and use it to beat up others.

The man needs mental health counseling. He needs therapy. Not because he’s gay or Jewish, those are perfectly fine as anything thing else for they have nothing to with me, would not be any of my concern. Only because he has this need to hurt so many people he does not know, to damage their civil rights, all to make himself feel warm and fuzzy.

I find that deeply personal and offensive.

    • This is incredibly profoundly written. The variances that exist amongst the human condition can not be underestimated. I too am Jewish, for instance, but literally have nothing else in common with comrade Igor. In fact, his entire ideological existence I find to be repulsive. I will never understand (that can’t be overstated enough) how those of Jewish ancestry aren’t uniformly in favor of the individual right to keep and bear arms.

    • Given Volsky’s experiences, he should be a prime candidate for membership in Jews for the Preservation of Firearms Ownership and the Pink Pistols.

    • You are describing a corollary to the “useful idiot”. The so called progressive movement and it’s democrat-socialist adherents are being elected by a voting base made up predominantly of these emotionally damaged and/or ignorant people.

  20. “Being a patriotic American means raising the standard for how firearms are produced and purchased. The firearms industry must be regulated. And people who choose to own a firearm should prove to their neighbors and their communities that they could own one responsibly.”

Being a patriotic American means raising the standard for free speech in the public square. The press must be regulated. And people who choose to engage in speaking in public should prove to their neighbors and their communities that they could do so responsibly.

    • Sounds perfectly reasonable to me. Lets start with Mr Volsky….. Mr Volsky, don’t publish another word until prove to us that you are a responsible journalist.

  21. “These are the building blocks for a new American future, one with fewer guns in circulation.”

Nonsense. Being a patriotic American means being responsible for your own defense. Every adult American must be prepared to initially take care of themselves if the SHTF, whether that be criminals, wild animals, or natural disasters.

  22. Makes sense, but I will need my neighbors to convince me they can vote responsibly or I will not allow them to vote. Additionally to encourage responsible and intelligent voting a test and a license will be issued allowing the person to vote.

This is where all of this goes. Both are rights, not to be messed with. You dont have to like them, and you dont have to participate if you prefer not to.

  23. Wow, a kind, modest, jewish-man born in Russia makes the move to the US, provides deep insights into patriotism and the future with no guns. I’ve never seen this kind of pattern before, refreshingly original. What a selfless cosmopolitan.

    • Yes, they’re exactly alike.

      Both are human.

      Both are male.

      And… and…

Nope. Not seeing any other similarities.

    • “Igor Volsky, meet Adam Kraut. You two have a lot in common.”

Ralph, could you please explain to me your beef with Kraut?

      Please?

  24. Yeah, and the guy who promised you a “Good Time” if you only let him shackle you to the basement wall is probably legit too.

  25. “Being a Patriotic American Means Regulating the Media and Journalists Proving They’re Responsible”

    See how that works?

  26. This is a typical liberal/.big brother /1984 thinking.

He thinks conservatives can’t understand their wonky language and statistics. So his idea, make an emotional appeal and change the meaning of patriot to what he thinks it SHOULD mean.

He is making the same mistake that most liberals make, they believe their enlightened opinion is the only valid one. Any information that contradicts that opinion is wrong. Based on his comments I doubt this guy has every considered “Hmm, Are my statistics supported by other facts?”.

    Reagan said it best

“The trouble with our Liberal friends is not that they’re ignorant; it’s just that they know so much that isn’t so”

  27. So another homosexual white man wants my guns. Well there’s nothing new here.

But one thing he is an immigrant. A Jewish homosexual communist. Who apparently couldn’t get along with the other anti-civil rights communists in his home country. So he immigrated here.

With the blessings of the Libertarians liberals and the left. Who totally support importing anti-civil rights America hating immigrants into this country. Congresswoman Omar is a perfect example. An anti civil rights immigrant that was allowed to settle here become a congresswoman and now is trying to legislate gun civil rights out of American law.

Anti Human Rights tyrants have no right to immigrate into the United States trying to escape the tyrannical government that views them as not being ideologically pure.

  28. legal owners do and are. Manufacturers and sellers are extremely regulated. Where and you been hiding and what haven’t you been reading. Now, if you want to be a real bright boy figure out how one regulates illegal owners. The same way that street drugs are regulated?

  29. ” Being an American means”…….Respecting our constitution and bill of rights. Join the convention of states movement and take back our rights and limit the power of the federal government like our founding fathers set it up.

  30. The point seems to be that we really can put a lock on the burning barn after the horse has run away.

Let’s get real. A gun is merely an artifact milled from metal. Today, CNC mills are available at bargain-basement prices. 3D printing is projecting the handwriting on the wall.

There are already 400 million guns in America for 325 million men, women and children. It is no more realistic to control manufacture or commerce in guns than it was 200 years ago to control manufacture or commerce in swords. No more than it ever was to control clubs.

There is very nearly NOTHING that can be done to regulate manufacture or commerce in guns under today’s circumstances. All the effort that goes into this objective is diverted from other more promising efforts.

The one gun control with some promise of efficacy is enforcing felon-in-possession; but it is precisely THAT which America WILL not do.

So, instead, we ought to be investing in research, development and implementation of efforts to reduce our culture’s production of children with propensity toward violence. That is a realistic objective that we should be able to agree upon.

  31. “Government’s view of the economy could be summed up in a few short phrases:
    If it moves: Tax it.
If it keeps moving: Regulate it.
If it stops moving: Subsidize it.”
    Ronald Regan

  32. Most people named Igor would at least have the decency to get a real job working for a mad scientist and they’d drag a foot when walking but they’d like pretty girls too.

As far as disarming us, just try to come and take ’em.

  33. You want proof of responsibility, how about this? Of the in excess of 120 million gun owners in the U.S., fewer than one one hundredth of a percent of them kill anyone in a given year.

    There ya go, 99.99% responsible.

  34. Yes. The Bureau of Rifulls,Handgunms,Shootgums, and Any other device used to Expell a projectilel . However it’s “Chiefs and indians” are made up of any red blooded American that wishes to regulate the laws *Against* The Constitution of America

  35. How does disarming the good guys make us safer? Are the bad people going to stop being bad because we are unarmed? Gun control is an alliance between criminals and democrats.

    • not just demoncraps but also republocraps that are there for power as well. Any that are in it for power are not to be trusted
