Representative Jeff Duncan, who was present at the GOP Congressional baseball practice in Virginia that was attacked this morning, leaving five people wounded, told FoxNews that he was asked by a strange man this morning whether the baseball players on the field were Republicans or Democrats.
I left a couple of minutes before this all happened, and as I was getting into my car…there was this guy that walked up to us that was asking whether those were Republicans or Democrats out there. It was just a little odd. Then he kind of walked toward the area where all this happened…. He was not carrying anything at the time, but from where the shots were, I would think that that would probably have been staged. Because there was no one obviously walking around with a rifle at the time. But it was just a little odd that he kind of really walked up to us to ask….
This is…where we’ve been doing the practices…. It’s been something that’s been going on for years and years.
Has #TheResistance actually taken up arms against the Republic generally, and Republicans in particular? Lord knows, the left has been stoking the fires of hate against conservatives and libertarians for decades now (Anyone remember president “BusHitler“?)
Just this weekend, there was a flap about a production of Shakespeare’s Julius Caesar in New York that featured a very Donald Trump-like Julius Caesar who (spoiler alert) gets murdered by his erstwhile friends and allies because they fear his popularity with the masses. Also this weekend: Rep. Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) called Trump supporters “racists” who backed “white supremacy”:
And many of us are wondering, why were so many people who worship at the altar of white supremacy drawn to Donald Trump’s campaign? What was it about this individual that so many folks dripping in hatred flocked to his candidacy?
That’s not to say that every American who voted for Donald Trump is a racist. We do know that every racist in America voted for Donald Trump.
It’s safe to say that if you’re on the left, predisposed to see Trump as Literally Hitler, you’ve enough rationalizations floating around in the mainstream media, and from mainstream politicians, to convince yourself that it’s time to saddle up against those Republicans.
That certainly fits a narrative. We won’t know for sure yet, though, until we know the person responsible for the attack. And as yet, there has been no confirmation on the shooter’s identity. Rep. Mo Brooks (R-Al.) was quoted as describing the attacker as a “white male” “a little bit on the chubby side“.
Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.), who was also present, said, “without the Capitol Hill Police, it would have been a massacre. We had no defense, no defense at all. We are lucky Scalise [the House Majority Whip] was there, this was his security detail. Without them this would have been a massacre. There was no stopping this guy. It was a wide open field, it’s a killing field.”
Needless to say since most of the players traveled from D.C., they were disarmed by their government and thus had no defense. When will this insanity end?
Could a sitting representative just carry a pistol with no consequences? They rarely get arrested for stuff, and even more rarely get any punishment.
Funny thing about POTG, we kind of try to obey the law. I don’t know about you, but I’m not willing to take a chance which might lead to a permanent loss of my natural, civil, and Constitutionally protected right to bear arms.
There are also those who exercise civil disobedience. They prefer being tried by 12 over carried by six. We don’t like to talk about them, but they exist.
A sitting representative would probably get away with it. The DC MPD firearms office is highly political. They claimed that one rep with an AR was legal since it did not have a bolt carrier. That is total BS as they would hang a citizen with anything over an 80% and no bolt carrier or barrel even out to dry. You can bet if you attempted to posses a non FOPA AR with no bolt carrier in DC you would be in jail with the key thrown out.
But more to the point, about 3/4 of the personnel there were staff, not elected members. If you live in Virginia like most of the staff does, and have a carry license it is very very risky to carry since if you have any commute to DC, or are called to DC for any reason, you will be committing at least one, likely two felonies in DC even if you lock your firearm unloaded in your trunk. Even if in fact if you make a wrong turn on a road near DC
Republicans need to accept responsibility. They didn’t have a enough Good Guys with Guns™ to prevent the shooter from hitting several people, its definitely their fault. Scalise should apologize to the American people and make sure that all his staff stay armed at all times to prevent this sort of embarrassment from happening again.
Where they were was effectively a “gun free zone” there in northern Virginia, because if you are proximate to DC and/or might go into DC, you will be committing a felony in DC even if you unload and lock your Virginia carry firearm.
Essentially these people at this northern Virginia game were deprived of their second amendment rights to defend themselves because of DC laws — laws that have no affect on criminals and only harm the law abiding.
Heck, if you drive into DC with an expended souvenir shotgun shell you are committing a felony, that they will prosecute even if you have never committed any other crime in our life.
And more to the point — there not one single proposal by the gun control lobby that would have impeded this shooter. This is an SKs, you could legally own one in DC even before Heller. they are legal and popular in Canada. Shooter was 100% qualified owner under “universal background check”

This attack occurred in Virginia which has shall-issue concealed carry and constitutional open carry of handguns. I do not consider Virginia to be a “gun free zone”.

Yes but the sporting Arena that they were all practicing at has dozens of gun-free zone signs I even saw one in an interview with a reporter that was on the scene. I was laughing because it was CNN I believe preachers of the left propaganda and in the background you could make out a gun free no weapons Zone sign. Me and a couple of my family members were sitting around and my young daughter actually made out the letters on the sign and said Daddy that sign says gun and weapon free zone and I said well this shouldn’t have happened then period and laughed. Just goes to show you that those gun free zones don’t do anything to keep you safe there are a waste of expense for the metal pole in the aluminum sign. I’d like to smack a couple of those Democrats right in the forehead with one of those signs and be like are you safe now LOL.
That area of Virginia is one mile from DC. From anyone who works in DC, or might be called into DC, or inadvertently drive into DC it is effectively a gun free zone.
Whether you are a congressional aid, plumber, off duty or retired Virginia cop even, with your Virginia carry license, if you unload your firearm and lock it up in a strong box in your car before heading to DC, you are committing multiple felonies in DC by just having it there. Ammo not “registered” DC is additional felony, and possession of a 12 round mag for a pistol would be an additional felony.
AND…..The Govenor of Va. was just on TV running his mouth already on the need for more gun control. WTF. I thought the people of Va. were smarter than the ones in Ma. Guess not.

From the London Telegraph: The gunman who opened fire at the congressional baseball practice this morning has been named as James T Hodgkinson of Belleville, Illinois, by law enforcement officials.
Mr Hodgkinson, 66, owns a home inspection business.
He is understood to be in custody.

I’ve been mulling over Sen. Rand Paul’s comments about this almost being a massacre. Imagine if the attacker had managed to kill several congressmen or senators. We would be having a major political crisis that would drag on for months, especially if there were Democratic Governors appointing Democrats to slain Republican seats. Maybe that was the terrorist’s plan? It was divine providence that there were 2 armed people (Capitol Police) who were able to trade shots with the shooter until more police could respond.
