h-s precision PLR rifle

One of the best aspects of coming to any hunting/shooting convention is being some of the first people to see brand new products. That was the case when we approached Josh Cluff of H-S Precision.

Well-recognized for their stocks and rifles built for long-range hunting, competition and military/law enforcement applications, the designers at H-S have gone back to the blackboard for this new iteration of their PLR – Long Range Hunting Rifle.

As Josh shows us, this is not simply a tweak of a current product. It’s a major overhaul and a rifle in which literally every part, from muzzle to butt plate, is made by H-S Precision.

      • I suppose you’d claim any Mercedes would be ridiculously overpriced as compared to your Chevy Cruze…

It’s amazing that in just, perhaps, 25 years, a high number of people in this nation do not appreciate the cost of individual human labor in putting together a high-end product. They seem to happily accept what used to be substandard fit, finish and performance just to keep the price down to make it available to anyone. If you believe rifles of this level are ridiculously overpriced, you were never in the eye of the marketer in the first place. It would be better to accept that than to knock something that has gone through (by today’s standards) some very close human scrutiny, fitting and effort to make a superior product. Go ahead and keep shooting your Moisin or SKS, no one’s making fun or casting espersions at your choice.

        • High end, expensive doesn’t mean you can’t get just as good or better for less. You know what they say, “You use a Range Rover to drive into the bush… you use a Toyota to drive out of it.”

        • You’re not comparing apples to apples. A Chevy Cruze can’t compare to a BMW in any category except fuel mileage. A rifle’s job is to send a projectile down range. I have a number of rifles that will do that job and keep the groups under 1/2 inch at a hundred yards and didn’t pay more than 1k for any of them; including a Ruger 77 that I paid 500 bucks for that will shoot in the same hole at a hundred.
They all look better than that ugly ass gun as well; that thing looks like a flock of pigeons shit all over it.

  1. I don’t think it’s a question of rich or poor. I think it’s a question of priorities. If superior quality is important to you, no matter the product, you find a way.

    • Kihlil, it’s not plastic. Years ago I had a rifle built on a stainless Winchester short action. Chose an H-S Precision to stock. Very rigid, aluminum bedding block, great finish. Of course, there’s more to it than the stock, but that rifle drives tacks. H-S stocks are a bit heavy though. If weight is a primary concern go with McMillan.

  2. If you don’t like the price on rifles like this, do what I did and buy a Savage Stealth in 6.5 CM. You can find them on sale for $750 fairly frequently and they come in an MDT chassis. Drop a decent scope on it and shoot sub MOA groups. I also bought a Ruger Predator in 6mm CM, bought an MDT chassis on sale, and for the same price have another fun, accurate SUB MOA rifle to mess around with.

  3. When you guys don’t come back for that civil war thing, no worries, I’ll take care of your widows. It usually takes me between 2 and 4 months to make a widow mine, I make them sexually addicted. I am trying to find business partners because that might be too many widows to take care of, and too far away.

  4. If only I had $4,000 laying around. That is a rifle I would be proud to own. Carbon fiber barrel , custom made to customers requirements. SWEET !!

  5. Competition shooting is part of the point to this one. If your good enough, it will pay for itself. Then you will have a family heirloom.

This is a niche gun. Not for just anyone.

  6. I always get a good laugh when I see some of these “latest and greatest” rip off wonder turd bolt guns. Seriously when I see the accuracy results they do not do anything that some of the older heavy barrel traditional wood stocked rifles do, some of which still have their original factory barrels and also those that got custom barrels long ago often out shoot today’s “sucker rifles” complete with their gorgeous platicky (and totally worthless) pistol grip stocks (sarcasm).

I have pre-64 Winchesters both factory and also custom barreled that I would not trade for 100 of these new wonder turd guns.

The current rage seems to be with the 6.5 mm cartridges recently invented but in reality none do any better job than some of the classics such as the 6.5 Swede, 260 Remington, 6.5-06, 6.5/284, 6.5 Japanese, 6.5 Mannlicher, 6.5 Carcano, 6.5 x57, 6.5 x58 or the unusual 6.8 x 60 Chinese. Just a few of the older 6.5 mm calibers and even the somewhat controversial .264 Winchester Magnum.

      • It would take a coward hiding behind a fake moniker to post that as well as admitting he knows nothing about firearms. Your post proves it but your to ignorant to “get it”.

Until you get some real experience with firearms its better to keep people from finding out that you do indeed know nothing about firearms. Your the joke, not me you just proved it.

        try again .

        • You’re the real Vlad the Impaler? I always thought that was a fake moniker. My apologies your highness. Lol

        • That’s “you’re too” … not “your to.”

And “you’re the …” not “your the”

          Try again. 🙂

        • @Vlad

Nothing you ever post on this web site provides any indication that you actually have any real-world experience with firearms. You are barely capable of writing coherent sentences. Everything you post is simply stupid. You strike me as a man-child incapable of mature conversation and higher-order thinking. You should just leave and troll some other website. It’s not working well here.

  7. Ramble ramble Ruger Merican… Grumble grumble sub MOA… Real Mericans shoot 30.06… Creedmore will fade like the other boutique calibers.

  8. HS Precision supports murderers like Lon Horiuchi. Lon shot Vicki Weaver in the face with a .308 while she held her baby, Elishaba, in her hands. It was cold blooded murder. Horiuchi SHOT her deliberately. Then the FBI taunted the Weaver family the next morning, saying, “good morning, mrs. Weaver, we had pancakes for breakfast, what did you have?” over loudspeakers at the house. They had shoot on site orders (unconstitutionally) at Ruby Ridge for Randy, Vicki and Kevin Harris. Horiuchi goes on to snipe more innocent US Citizens, his own countrymen, at Waco. HS Precision goes on to hire him as their spokesman and key promoter. Absolutely sick.

Why are you promoting this vile company on here?

  9. I don’t have a H-S rifle but may buy one in the near future. Love light weight rifles that are easy to carry when hunting in the mountains. As to the price, it may be pricey but is worth it. The fact is. most of the guys complaining probably have a safe full of rifles that they rarely use simply because they are too heavy, not the right caliber for the hunting they do, or simple “too pretty” to risk scratching it during a hunt. Maybe sell some and get a rifle with a synthetic stock that can take the abuse of any hunt, whether in the mountains, desert, or woods.
