But I’ve been reliably informed that virtually all firearms are illegal in the UK . . . Gangs-hit Birmingham sees 41 shootings in just over three months

The official West Midlands statistics mean that the city has seen a firearms discharge more than once every three days.

The force is currently tackling a gangs war in the south of the city which has led to an increase in violence in areas including Northfield and Bartley Green.

We told last week how there were 57 shootings between April 1 and July 12 in the whole of the West Midlands.

The force has now confirmed 40 of those took place in Birmingham. The full break-down show month by month firearms discharges with 16 being the highest number in April – followed by 11 in June, 10 n July and four in May.

If you listen closely, you can hear the sweet sounds of the world’s smallest violin . . . California struggles to implement new gun-control measures

After passing laws that expand the definition of “assault weapon” and make it illegal to possess gun magazines capable of holding more than 10 rounds of ammunition, the state is facing myriad problems in trying to enforce the new laws. The first trouble came when the California Department of Justice (DOJ) attempted to draft their plan to register all of the rifles in California which have “bullet button” reloading devices and other rifles that would fall under the state’s expanded assault weapons ban. On June 26, the Office of Administrative Law (OAL) determined that the DOJ had improperly sought to avoid the public comment period on the plan. That caused the deadline for registration to be pushed back six months.

Then, on June 29, a federal judge issued a preliminary injunction blocking the enforcement of the state’s gun magazine confiscation plan.

But give them time . . . DOJ Releases Proposed Regulations Regarding Ammunition Vendor Licensing

On Friday, July 14th, the California Department of Justice, Bureau of Firearms (“DOJ”) claims to have released its anticipated proposed regulations for the issuance of ammunition vendor licenses to businesses who sell or transfer ammunition pursuant to Proposition 63. Under the Administrative Procedure Act, a government agency is required to provide notice to those who signed up for “notifications of future rulemaking activities.” But NRA and CRPA attorneys received no notice of the proposed regulations, despite being subscribed to receive emails regarding any and all rulemaking activity from DOJ.

As written, these proposed regulations include new requirements for the issuance of ammunition vendor licenses, restrictions on the display of ammunition in stores, fees for processing private party ammunition sales, and the procedures for the suspension and forfeiture of licenses.

Skynetski . . . Russian Weapons Maker To Build AI-Directed Guns

The maker of the famous AK-47 rifle is building “a range of products based on neural networks,” including a “fully automated combat module” that can identify and shoot at its targets. That’s what Kalashnikov spokeswoman Sofiya Ivanova told TASS, a Russian government information agency last week. It’s the latest illustration of how the U.S. and Russia differ as they develop artificial intelligence and robotics for warfare.

Gunwerks Release The RevX Ten-Year Anniversary Long-Range Rifle

Gunwerks is excited to announce its latest rifle, the RevX. The new rifle delivers Gunwerks’ legendary long-range performance at less than half the price of its higher-end siblings. As with all Gunwerks’ products, each RevX is live-fire tested at Gunwerks’ Wyoming facility to test accuracy, cold bore shot behavior, and long range ballistic performance.

The field-test data that’s collected is included with each rifle as an individual ballistic data package. Also included is a coupon for a custom turret label, made specifically for the individual rifle by customturretsystems.com.

Every RevX long-range rifle arrives ready to shoot, out of the box. Pre-configured rifles come with the Nightforce SHV scope—zeroed and calibrated. If the customer prefers, they can have their RevX dealer mount the optic of the customer’s choice.

Quick! Somebody call the State Department! . . . Reaper’s Hellfire Shotguns in the Nevermore skin get 3D printed

Everyone’s favourite edgelord from Overwatch, Reaper, has received a fan-made 3D print of his hellfire shotguns with the Nevermore skin.

Each of these prints measure in at 66 centimetres long, so they should be big enough for a properly scaled cosplay or decoration piece.

To get it to look like it does in the game, you’re going to need to put a lot of work into finishing and painting it, lest it look like the test prints in the gallery below. Luckily the shaping is spot on, so you need not worry about that.

Your tax dollars at work . . . TSA shows how to take guns with you when you fly

You don’t have to leave your firearms at home when you travel. Transportation Security Administration regional spokesman Mark Howell on Monday demonstrated at KCI the proper way to bring firearms on board an airline.

Check out the mags the Norks are using on their AKs . . . North Korean Helical AK Magazines

Several new developments in North Korean armaments can be witnessed amongst the recent flow of propaganda released by Pyongyang after Kim Jong-un’s ascension to power.  One such development is what appears to be a new magazine model for the North Korean copy of the AK-74, the Type 88. This new magazine uses a staggered helix design, which allows for a high number of 5.45 x 39 mm cartridges to be carried without the notable increases in size and unwieldiness that characterise many other high capacity magazines.

So far the only users of this helical magazine appear to be Kim Jong-un’s (and formerly Kim Jong-il’s) personal bodyguards. While in the picture above each bodyguard appears to be carrying only one magazine (which, given their high capacity, isn’t that surprising), other, earlier, footage shows a loadout of two spare magazines for each bodyguard, as seen below. The magazines appear to have been in service since 2010, and possibly earlier.

Not exactly a new idea . . . Halo Gun Counts Your Ammo In The Real World

Jimsbeanz lives in our world, not Halo’s, but you’d be forgiven for thinking he was packing an actual UNMC Assault Rifle when you look at his modified replica gun in action.

Beginning life as a BOOMco Halo rifle (which shoots the company’s own take on NERF darts), the new paintjob looks nice, but the real star here is the working ammo counter, which thanks to an IR gate is able to accurately read every round that flies out the barrel.

We were wondering where he kept the lighter, too . . . Naked man catches fire during arrest when stun gun hits lighter

(Travis L.) Tingler refused to get into the squad car and police used stun guns to subdue him.

The unhinged man somehow grabbed a lighter during the scuffle and when the stun gun probe hit the lighter fluid, Tingler’s beard and chest hair caught fire, police said.

A cop tried to put the fire out but Tingler continued to struggle with the officers, punching one in the face, until he finally fell on the pavement and hit his head after being zapped by a stun gun again.

  1. So the Norks have a giant PP-19 mag for their AK’s… is it taped on to the rifle or held in place by string?

  2. Anything that comes out of North Korea that makes any of them look even remotely tough or badass or advanced or well fed is something I refuse to trust. Helical mags on an AK? I mean, I could see them maybe trying that, ignoring the fact that there’s a damn good reason the rest of the world still issues regular 30 round magazines. But I still find it suspect

    • It’s reported elsewhere that the Rooskies did produce these but abandoned the idea because of weight and the time it took to load them. Just NoKo theatrics on parade.

  3. A dude named Tingler…

Was hit with a stun gun…

I’m… um… seriously, I’m at a loss for words. Ralph, please help!

  4. including a “fully automated combat module” that can identify and shoot at its targets.

    Like CWIS without the ship?

  5. Given AK mags typically rock “back” away from the muzzle to lock in, I have to wonder how these helical mags are retained.

I think I’ll stick with my 30 round banana and 50 round drum AK magazines for now….

    • I saw photos of these a few months ago and wondered how the magazines attached. I think the gun and magazine are a one piece moulded mock up.

Good enough to impress journalists but those who know about guns are those who cannot be fooled.

        • Exactly, miniaturized fission bombs using an integral confinement method along with 2+ stage ICBMs to deliver them (god forbid neutron bombs though, would leave too much of the west intact). This along with claims of being a paragon nation of humanitarianism and having a nationwide power grid that is just conveniently restricted to Pyongyang. All the while, for some reason, most of their artillary, planes, vehicles and small arms are a throwback to soviet(60s-80s) era tech.

Like the Chinese, the North Koreans seem to have a penchant for theft of intellectual property and bluster. Very rarely have they come up with their own ideas, then again why bother when it’s easier and just as efficient to appropriate another countries’. It can be said that the NKs are a contemptible bunch, but they sure as hell ain’t stupid.

        • Obviously a /sarc tag was in order.

I agree completely, just like the Chinese they steal whatever tech they want. Part of the Chinese/Korean culture, been that way for hundreds of years – not that they didn’t invent a whole bunch-o-stuff long ago.

The point I was trying to get across was that something like that is very likely real – the moonlander that you see at the NK equivalent of the May Day parade is fake, but we know the ICBM is quite real. Something as simple as a helical mag that’s been around public domain for what, 30+ years?

Not to mention this being a “story” (and picture) is at least 3 years old – I saw something about this in 2014. Chinese and Russkies have also developed helical mags but not issued them. And looking back, it’s the same pic….

        • Understood sir, no extra conveyment of sarcasm need be warranted. It was not this one’s intent to come off as being sardonic, but merely to affirm agreement with 16V’s sentiment. Albeit done in a slightly exaggerated and vaguely disorganized way.

A more coherent version of the point that Esoteric Inanity was attempting to communicate could be stated as:

The North Koreans, like the Chinese, are masters at reverse engineering, even when it comes to complex technology. Therefore, it is certainly possible that they could come up with a simplistic concept such as this magazine. However, the norm for this country is propaganda towards its own people and bluster towards the west. With this in mind, anything coming from the NK need be viewed with skepticism.

Do the NK have such mags, no real reason to believe to the contrary, although it’s insignificant in the grand scheme of things as 16V so succinctly pointed out, e.g. Nukes. However wouldn’t it be poetically appropriate if the NK were putting out pictures of fake AK magazine to “fool” the west? This one wouldn’t put it past them and it makes him smile, the thought that is (or it could be the fire water).

          Cheers.

    • A spring-loaded catch would probably work in replicating the rock-in.

I doubt they actually work worth a damn though. This is just Nork show-posturing.

  6. What are the odds that Birmingham’s gang wars are like Chicago’s where it’s the gang bangers shooting at each other with the occasional unfortunate innocent bystander catching a stray round? Forty one shootings in ninety days is more like one every other day than one every three days. Still not as bad as Chicago but I doubt it’s for lack of effort.

  7. A naked man managing to grab a lighter just long enough for it to be hit by a taser resulting in fire- well, to the sober people around him it must have all seemed very unlikely.

  8. It used to be that magazines were not an “approved container” for ammunition. When did TSA change the rule, or is a local interpretation of the rules?

    • There were some real issues with the “approved container” rules. The problem was that when your gun was stolen by TSA/Airport workers they needed the magazines too.

      • And if the magazines were not loaded, how could they possibly determine what boolits were needed? Wrong boolits can hurt you, so it’s a safety issue!

  9. At this point the British government would simply ignore legal precedent calling it “outdated”. And no, Britain would not be better off. It’s because of the filthy krauts in the world wars Britain lost all her real men, helping to save the world from left wing fascist Shit bags. Hitler would be proud of modern liberalism. As well as himmler, who raised a whole SS division of Muslim extremists to fight for the Riech, many of whom went on to create the Muslim brotherhood.

    • The Krauts started both wars. They didn’t have to invade Belgium in WW1. WW1 would’ve been a localized balklands conflict if it wasn’t for Germany. That was an act of absolute aggression against the allies. And don’t even for a second try to justify the invasion of Poland you Hun scumbag.

  10. It appears that the Birmingham Police have met their match with the street gangs. I’m sure that the gangs are terrified of the unarmed Bobbles.
