Everytown and Moms less than honest? Get outta town! . . . Florida: Bloomberg Groups Falsely Claim Credit for “Defeating” Second Amendment Bills – “In a celebratory email blast yesterday, NY Mayor Bloomberg’s anti-gun groups, Moms Demand Action and Everytown for Gun Safety falsely took credit for “defeating” pro-gun bills in Florida. They said: “After months of heated debate in Tallahassee, we’re closing out the 2017 legislative session with BIG wins for gun safety in Florida.”

Science confirms what most of us already knew through experience . . . Murder Isn’t a Nationwide Problem – The worst 1 percent of counties have 19 percent of the population and 37 percent of the murders in 2014. The worst 2 percent of counties contain 47 percent of the population and accounted for 51 percent of the murders. 68 percent of the murders occurred in only 5 percent of counties.

Protecting the weed . . . Would-Be Robber Shot In The Chest By Marijuana Dispensary Guard – “A would-be robber is hospitalized Thursday after being shot by the guard of a West Adams (Los Angeles) medical marijuana dispensary. Police say the armed man was shot in the chest by a security guard just after 11 p.m. Wednesday at the West Adams Collective, 4856 West Adams Blvd. Surveillance video matched up with the guard’s account of the shooting, so he has not been arrested, police said.”

Culture eats strategy for lunch . . . The Pro-Gun Thing Anti-Gunners Fear Most – “Gun sales aren’t the only thing that have generally risen over the past decade or more;participation in the shooting sports has also been surging. A recent report by the National Sporting Goods Association found that ‘segments experiencing growth’ include ‘Open Water Sports (+3.6 percent), Shooting Sports (+0.8 percent), Fitness Activities (+0.7 percent), Team Sports (+0.3 percent) and Outdoor Activities (+0.3 percent).’ Meanwhile, participation in the nationwide 4-H Shooting Sports Program has nearly tripled since 2009, and last year drew 336,558 program participants throughout the country. Now, some of these participants likely did more than one of the activities, but nevertheless the overall trend is clearly one of growth.”

Front serrations!

San Francisco May Have a Gun Problem – “But one area where crime did not decline was rates of gun violence. In 2016, homicides by firearm increased by 15 percent, people shot non-fatally increased by 27 percent, and 12 percent more firearms were seized from people than in the year prior. In 2016, 451 people were arrested for having a firearm. And in a depressing turn, the city’s gun buyback program — where SFPD offers cash for the public’s guns — dove a dismal 36 percent, with only 212 guns being taken off the streets last year.” Another anti-gun bastion of disarmed law-abiding civilians with a gun crime problem. Go figure.

People who fail background checks for guns to be reported to police – “Felons and other people who have lost the right to own a firearm will be reported to law enforcement if they try to buy a gun in Washington. A bill signed Wednesday requires gun dealers to report anyone who fails a background check to local law enforcement, who can then seek prosecutions. Victims of domestic violence can ask to be notified if their abuser fails a check. The law, which goes into effect this summer, closes a loophole in state gun laws, Gov. Jay Inslee and supporters said.” How many convicted felons are dumb enough to fill out a 4473?

This is the kind of chaos that motivates the pro-campus carry movement . . .  The Real Chaos of Campus Gun Laws – “But apart from the question of whether guns really make campuses safer, there are other reasons to squint at college gun laws—even for those who support the concept of campus carry. Among them: The ambiguities in these laws makes implementation confusing, enforcement difficult, litigation likely, and the resulting costs to university systems, campuses, courts, and citizens burdensome.”

Gun disguised as smartphone made by US based Ideal Conceal about to go on sale – “The idea of a concealed gun came to (Kirk) Kjellberg after an incident at a restaurant in his home state of Minnesota. ‘I just decided there’s probably gotta be a better way to carry and I was just looking around and noticed everyone had a smart phone so why not make a pistol that would look like that?’ Kjellberg said. He took a year engineering the gun and got an approval from the US’ Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms.”

    • Yeah and two whole rounds of tank stopping .380 ACP. Assuming the crook didn’t just steal your gun thinking it was a cell phone all you have to do is convince him to wait while you unfold it.

  1. No problem with that gun-phone-unless you try to answer any ringing? On a slightly serious note people have filled out a 4473 and been denied because of having the same name as a felon. Which is BS…

    • What’s going to happen is police resources are going to go down the toilet because after every guy with a common name pings they have to send a squad over instead of just re-running it with his social.

      • The response will be an MRAP with every cop within radio range OR they won’t do anything unless sure it is a law abiding citizen/a pass for thugs and repeat offenders.

    • From what ive been told by a couple people who work at gun stores that pretty much only happens to people who refuse to put there social on the 4473 for w/e reason

      • Since the social security number is key to so many things in our lives, and is a prime tool of identity theft, doesn’t it make sense to have it lying about in as few places as possible?

        • You’re not wrong, that number needs to be guarded better than many people apparentl realise. But here’s another question: if the shop you’re in is staffed with folks so shady you wouldn’t trust them with that number, are their prices really so good that you’d buy a gun from them?

        • There’s a pretty big difference between trusting someone with the keys to your identity and trusting them to sell you a gun, which you can research online and usually depend on having some manufacturer’s warranty on.

I’ve gotten guns that needed to be sent to the factory. Not nearly as painful as dealing with identity theft.

        • How many “security” questions require the last 4 digits of your SS?

The 1st three digits of your SS can be guessed by your birth year and state. You use the last 4 all the time on allegedly secure websites. Ha.

The second two digits can be brute force hacked in seconds.

Your SS# is the LEAST secure identifier you have.

    • As I related in an earlier post, I went through the NICS check before it was realized that my ID had lapsed, so I was refused.
Would I be reported? And what would the police do with that information?

  2. Way back in the day (early 90s, IIRC), someone designed a pager-shaped gun. IIRC, it was a derringer-type deal with one or two rounds in it. Can’t remember for sure, though.

    • That sounds about the time the ATF reinterpreted wallet holsters as AOWs if the gun could be fired from within the holster. From the photo, appears that this avoids that with the fold-out handle that covers the trigger, so it cannot be fired until transformed from cell phone mode to pistol mode.

  3. The gun control freaks ask, “Does allowing concealed carry makes campuses safer?” That’s not the question. Students are not there to apprehend bad guys; that is for the police. The carriers’ only need to protect themselves and have no duty to others. The real question is whether concealed carry makes campuses less safe. and if it does not (and it does not appear to), then they should just shut up.

  4. What i want to know is if that dispensary guard smokes lol

I live in pa and ive seen a couple people fail NICS checks. I dont know what those people are thinking. I was in a walmart once trying to buy ammo and a guy was yelling at the cashier because he failed the nics trying to buy a 12ga shotgun. He was going on and on about how “as a felon I cant own an offensive weapon, but shotguns are defensive weapons so I can buy this”. After being repeatedly told no, he had the nerve to try and buy a box of shot shells too but the cashier refused. The cashier told me people regularly fail the checks there all the time. Maybe they think theyll just get lucky and pass the background check by mistake or something.

That cell phone gun looks a little questionable to me.

  5. “Murder Isn’t a Nationwide Problem – The worst 1 percent of counties have 19 percent of the population and 37 percent of the murders in 2014…”

I’ve seen these stats before, sometimes used to sell the idea that this isn’t a big problem or something we should be worried about. 47% of the population is something to be worried about. Yes, the population centers are going to have the most increase in violence (for various reasons). No, a rural farm in Idaho isn’t going to suddenly spike in murders. I’m pretty sure we should still be at least paying attention.

  6. Homicides in the US are even more hyperconcentrated. About 99% of lethal violence in the United States is concentrated in just 5% of street addresses:

  7. TTAG should have posted the linked article for the transformer gun; the hysteria in Europe is comic gold.

“. . . has placed police in Europe on high alert after authorities received a warning that it could be flooded illegally into the continent when it goes on sale in the US. The “iPhone Gun” which has been pre-ordered 12,000 times, is disguised as an iPhone – but can transform into a lethal weapon at the touch of a button.
It is believed the weapon will be imported to European criminals within days, as officials struggle to control the borders amid terror fears”

  8. I failed a background check a few years ago because there was a false accusation of domestic abuse filed by my first wife during the divorce. It was cleared up, but I’m glad I didn’t have to deal with local LEOs while I was getting it taken care of.

    • A friend of mine failed one while I was with him. It turned out the store guy transposed two digits when he entered the info. So are the police going to be called because of typos?

  9. Bloomberg’s Florida announcement sounds shockingly like Dudley Brown is running his mouth again.

    • Arrrrrrggggg. The anti gun Pirate standing behind Shannon (What’s the truth, What I say it is) Watts.

      • Maybe, when he was a child, he had a Red Ryder Carbine Action 200-shot Range Model air rifle with a compass in the stock…

        • That’s what I thought – Red Rider strikes again!
It scarred him mentally for life.

  10. The white Pot Heads in California have never been for the RKBA. Now that they are naked capitalists, only now do they understand the need to protect their profits from criminals. The Black Pot Heads have always believed in carrying guns.

The proud Homosexuals who control San Francisco are just continuing the same policy that Harvey Milk rejected. He supported the second Amendment and carried a gun. They haven’t learned anything since his murder.

    • The pot shops need armed guards because the shops are cash only businesses, and the cash can’t be put in banks.

  11. — so why not make a pistol that would look like that?’ —

Because form follows function – there’s a reason guns look the way they do. What’s that “phone” gun chambered in .22lr?

    • Why assume that? Bond arms has managed to chamber their pistols in some very serious calibers.

    • “Because form follows function”

Yes, it does. And one of the core functional requirements of a concealed carry gun is that it be, you know, concealable. Like with almost ANY aspect of design, there are of course tradeoffs between various functional requirements, and the result (in a robust marketplace) is usually a variety of products covering the spectrum of possible compromises. We see that already, with a lot of people concealing 1911s and full-size glocks and such at one end (very effective guns, not so concealable), and the sub-compact .380s and various derringers (less effective, much more concealable). This is just another entry along that spectrum. A derringer that you can wear on your belt, easily accessible yet still concealed? That’s pretty “functional” for a concealed EDC piece.

  12. Wait — why is Shannon being accused of misrepresenting? She is absolutely the reason why Florida gun laws got killed this year. She bribed that Republican who wants to run for Mayor of Miami, which resulted in the bills being killed in committee. So yes, Shannon can claim that as a “victory” — even though if she was truly honest, it’s a victory of dictatorial tyranny over representative democracy by one person killing a bill in committee instead of letting it come up for a vote.

  13. I read the NRA ILA article on Florida and I think it misses the point. Do Bloomberg’s Moms deserve the credit for stopping open/campus carry? I will give them the credit for buying the votes. But certain Florida Senate Republicans (looking at you Flores) plus the overall Florida republican leadership I think gets to take all the “glory” for this and hopefully the ensuing repercussions. It doesn’t seem like Florida republican Senate leadership publicly condemned the traitors in their midst, or demanded that they get in line. As many have speculated, it’s like they wanted these bills to fail… They certainly didn’t fight to ensure they made it to the floor, with the exception of Greg Steube and his supporters. The NRA post doesn’t go after the real enemies here, and almost portrays the failures of these bills as acceptable, normal procedure.

  14. This is the second year in a row that the Florida Senate Republicans have killed open carry
Joe Negron is the RINO who is president of the Florida state senate
He has twice appointed anti gun republicans to the committee that handles this bill
Last year de la Portillo and this year Anitere Flores both single-handedly refused to let this bill out of committee
Flores is term-limited out so next year we can re-introduce the bill
If Negron again the points an anti-gun Republican to the committee then I am at a loss as to how we should proceed
Impeachment or trying to get a Republican to run against him in the primary
    Both will be extremely difficult

  15. Somebody with some legal experience, please enlighten me: in the eyes of the Fed, would a security guard at a dispensary, even if they themselves did not smoke, be considered to be an accomplice to/aiding and abetting the distribution of marijuana?

    • Interesting question!

But not to worry; the Senate refused to give bigot Sessions the money to go after state-authorized dealers.
