Quartz noted that the shooter in the second deadliest mass shooting in modern U.S. history, at Orlando’s Pulse Nightclub, reportedly regularly physically abused his ex-wife. Slate reported that another mass shooter, James T. Hodgkinson, who attacked members of Congress during a baseball game earlier this year, was arrested in 2006 after punching a womanin the face, though his case was later dismissed. Newsweek also reported in 2014 that, during a mass shooting in Killeen, Texas in 1991, the shooter seemingly specifically targeting women, reportedly shouting, “All women of Killeen and [neighboring city] Belton are vipers!” as he carried out his attack.
Unfortunately, a history of misogyny and/or domestic violence and a propensity for gun violence seem to often go hand-in-hand.

I’ve seen my friends and colleagues on the Left side of the gun control debate dumbfounded at why Second Amendment advocates don’t seem to budge on their views after mass shootings. So I thought I would try my hand at explaining this phenomenon in the hopes that maybe more will be inclined to have a better conversation about guns and the Second Amendment in America. There are several reasons 2A advocates aren’t running to your side of the argument, and it might not be the ones you think.

And an armed citizenry, especially if they seem to have a just cause to rally around, will dramatically raise the price of ruling them. In that very year, they were forced to make an effective exit from the main part of their oldest colony, Ireland. Why? Because a determined group of Irish men with guns made the country ungovernable. An Australian judge has quashed three firearms convictions against two-time Olympic gold medallist Michael Diamond.
The convictions in May had effectively ended the trap shooter’s career.
The charges related to the alleged improper storage of a gun and rounds in Diamond’s car. A judge acquitted him after questioning the legality of a police search.
Diamond, 45, is now eligible to reapply for his firearms licence and qualify for the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo.

Americans, including Stephens, should be familiar with the disasters that befell Washington and Chicago after their gun bans. After Washington’s ban, the city ranked No. 1 or 2 in murder rate among the 50 largest cities for half of the next 30 years, and in the top four for two-thirds of that time. Before the ban, Washington had never been near that high. Chicago’s murder rate relative to other cities also soared after its ban.
Gun-control advocates will tell you that Washington and Chicago weren’t fair tests. They will point out that criminals could still get guns in Virginia or Maryland, or in Illinois or Indiana. That is true, but while it might explain why murder rates didn’t fall as promised, it doesn’t explain why murder and violent crime rates went up. After all, criminals could get these same guns before the ban. If it was so obvious to these advocates that the Washington and Chicago experiments were going to be failures, they should have let others in on this secret.
On “toxic masculinity”, I don’t know if I’m a manly man, toxic or otherwise. But I do know 3 things: 1, I support a family of five off my own income and I don’t blame anyone for my problems, I just fix them as best I can. 2, I hope my kids grow up to appreciate self reliance and self responsibility. 3, who tries to claim I do things wrong can eat all the d1cks in the world.
On armed civilians stopping the military. Think my bullets can’t stop a tomahawk cruise missile heading towards my house? Try shouting at an incoming military missile and see if freedom of speech stops it instead. Our freedoms are about raising the cost of tyranny so much that government doesn’t want to pay the price. Drones, tanks, and missiles are stopped before they’re sent when politicians know the sending will be career if not literal suicide

Quite a number of decades ago the bigots in power in many states used the power of law to deny basic civil rights to various demographics. Those groups were typically categorized according to income, race, gender of religious belief. We’ve come a long way in quashing that type of bigotry insofar as those disaffected groups are concerned – such discrimination is largely illegal now and bigots may face legal consequences for their discrimination.
In the past week, we – the People of the Gun – are once again being reminded that we are one of the last remaining demographics that can be maligned and discriminated against with virtual impunity by government, businesses and individuals.
Playing the role of the victim does not sit well with me: mostly because I couldn’t care less what any critic of my life thinks – but I have learned that a pointed statement of “you are a bigot” directly in the face of an anti-2nd Amendment type can do wonders for shutting their malfunctioning brain down.

There seems to be a lot of speculation about the use of the military against an armed uprising by the populace. Will they follow orders from corrupt leaders to attack the civilian populace or not? As a retired vet of 21 years, there is a real certainty they will not. Our brothers and sisters in arms know that their first oath is to defend this nation from all enemies, both foreign and DOMESTIC! And therein they have the right to refuse those orders of a corrupt leadership bent on destroying our government, the Constitution and assuming tyrannical control. Even now among the veteran’s community there is a realization that should the violent attempts by the left and those dumbassocratic polecats and liberals in office lead to any such action, we will confront and restore the Republic. And the active military will provide the backing to this. There may be some resistance within the military based on those in command and who they align with, but they will be outnumbered and restrained.
Since the military as a whole votes ‘R’ over 70 pct of the time, finding enough willing to carry out those treasonous orders could be a problem for them…
Yet so many of the generals are democrats…

Whenever people try to counter my statement that the Second Amendment exists to provide the average citizen with a means to defend himself from tyrannical government, including, if need be, his own, with the argument that my guns will not do any good against tanks and airplanes, I always ask them who they think are flying those airplanes and driving those tanks, if do they really think that American military personnel will follow any order to turn their guns against fellow citizens?
I have never gotten an answer to the question.
The fellow citizens the armed forces would be expected to turn their weapons against are family,friends, and neighbors. I think you are correct, it will never happen.

Current number in inventory, roughly 3500 according to publicly available documents. cost of your average rifle $700. number of privately held firearms in the US 270-310 million. Political cost of using cruise missiles on domestic targets – cant even begin to calculate. cost of using heavy armored vehicles (AKA tanks, Strikers, Bradleys, etc) even higher. Using US armed forces on citizens, especially armed citizens, is a losing game.

pay attention to the order there. Some will always follow their orders, and some will remember that the oath is to defend the constitution against all enemies, foreign and DOMESTIC, and look at what they are being ordered to do.
The talk of disparity of weapons between civilians and the military is silly, even assuming the military would be 100% loyal to the government. Besides the asymmetric warfare of thousands of $1M missiles against millions of rifles, there’s the problem of locating and isolating targets. A few percentage of the population of active rebels would be mixed in with the rest of the population, not standing is a field taking pot shots at tanks and bombers. Would the government send a cruise missile, guided bomb, drone strike, or artillery round into an apartment building to get the gun guy in 3B? Would they carpet bomb a subdivision to get the guy with an unregistered machine gun at the end of the cul-de-sac? Dozens of people gathered in a compound in the middle of nowhere isn’t going to be common. There won’t be a central command bunker to use the busters on. Unless whole towns or states go into rebellion, the military couldn’t deploy the “big guns.” Every city would become Mosul, and there wouldn’t be enough military to cover them all.
Any time the words “misogyny” come out of someone’s mouth, it’s a strong indicator that the speaker should be relieved of her herd of cats.

The elephant in living room is the propensity towards violence. And because I love to steer off course… I really love the whole stigma attached to mental illness as the reason why people carry out mass shootings. Having mental issues and being a sociopath are very different things. But it’s a perfect way to strip a significant portion of the population of their gun rights,… most often for life. A wife beater has a better chance at restoring their rights than someone who had a bout of situational depression in early adulthood. Mostly controlling people who want other people unarmed.
I don’t know if a “convicted” wife beater ever gets their 2a back. I don’t think so. And the DV, no guns ever, is an unjust law, it’s the only misdomeanor that’s treated like a felony. Hell, I’ve read stories of men getting a misdemeanor DV just for pushing their spouse, which of course can happen when she attacks with claws bared. Then again, far more men than women kill their significant other. And yes, alcohol–and testosterone–are usually involved.

In regards to protection against a corrupt government, it seems the ones saying it can’t be done never take into account the fact that there are a huge number of retired military from all levels that would counteract some of the advantages strategy wise. Of course as others have mentioned the fact that a decent number of members might defect rather than fight. In some cases with equipment, such as armored vehicles/tanks etc.

They were using four or more injured until they realized that is over 80% gang related and falling over 30, 25, and 20 year trends except for a a very small set of jurisdictions that happen to also be sanctuary cities run by Democrats.
The more common phrase now “high profile mas shooting”, ie NO definition so you can just pick the ones that fit your narrative.
