Please tell me Ryan won’t fall for this . . . Pelosi calls on Ryan to form select committee to curb gun violence

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi on Monday urged Speaker Paul Ryan to create a Select Committee on Gun Violence that would craft “common sense legislation” in the wake of a Las Vegas shooting that has left at least 59 people dead and injured more than 500.

Pelosi wrote to Ryan as Democrats began edging back toward calls for gun control measures that they had largely avoided after the June shooting of House Majority Whip Steve Scalise (R-La.). Following the mass fatalities in Las Vegas, however, Pelosi called for “a day for action” as well as remembrance of those lost.

Oh joy . . . Las Vegas gunman filmed himself during slaughter

Las Vegas madman Stephen Paddock set up a camera inside his hotel room to capture his deadly shooting rampage — and other surveillance in the hallway to alert him as cops closed in on him, according to reports.

The shooter had at least one lens set up to tape himself as he unleashed hell on thousands of unsuspecting concertgoers several hundred yards below his ritzy casino suite, according to ABC News.

This has always been the goal anyway . . . It’s Time to Ban Guns. Yes, All of Them.

Ban guns. All guns. Get rid of guns in homes, and on the streets, and, as much as possible, on police. Not just because of San Bernardino, or whichever mass shooting may pop up next, but also not not because of those. Don’t sort the population into those who might do something evil or foolish or self-destructive with a gun and those who surely will not. As if this could be known—as if it could be assessed without massively violating civil liberties and stigmatizing the mentally ill. Ban guns! Not just gun violence. Not just certain guns. Not just already-technically-illegal guns. All of them.

A little clarity . . . Gun Control Tech Exists. But It Won’t Stop Mass Shootings

It’s clear that the smart gun, lock, and safe technologies that could genuinely save thousands of lives in the United States every year—by preventing accidental deaths, or the resale of stolen weapons—won’t magically reduce mass shootings. And given the permissiveness of US gun laws, the inability to use a stolen gun seems more likely to slow, rather than stop, that sort of attack. And absent any other substantive gun security technology in development, the industry has no tech-forward solution to try to stop attacks like Las Vegas.

Lowering their profile . . . NRA delays TV ads in Virginia after Las Vegas shooting

The National Rifle Association has delayed a week’s worth of television advertising in Virginia’s 2017 elections.

The NRA was set to air ads starting Tuesday, media-buying sources said, with five weeks to go until Virginia’s statewide elections. But the group has now gone dark until Oct. 10.

The delayed advertising campaign keeps the NRA off the airwaves in Virginia in the wake of a deadly mass shooting at a concert in Las Vegas, which authorities have said left more than 50 dead. But a source familiar with the ad buy said the gun-rights group had already shuffled its advertising schedule as part of its campaign strategy and said the delay wasn’t related to the Las Vegas shooting.

So much for telling jokes . . . Late Night Hosts Push Gun Control After Vegas Shooting

Late night comedians spent their shows Monday night pushing for gun control in the wake of the largest mass shooting in United States history.

Democrats were quick to call for gun control after the shooting in Las Vegas, which left 59 people dead and hundreds more injured. The late night hosts quickly jumped on the bandwagon, urging Congress to “do something” about the shooting.

Jimmy Kimmel continued his recent move into politics, telling his viewers “right now there are loopholes in the law that let people avoid background checks if they buy a gun privately from another party, if they buy a gun online or at a gun show.”

This remains to be seen . . . Diagnosed Or Not, The Vegas Shooting Is About Mental Illness

The massacre in Las Vegas has rightly consumed an entire news cycle. But while the media, Democrats, and generic progressives go after gun control, mental illness is being completely sidelined once again.

There are several reasons for this, but two of the obvious — giving the media et al., the benefit of the doubt — are, one) we know the murderer had guns. A lot of them. At least a few illegally modified. And two) We have no information on the murderer’s mental state or mental history. But, honestly, whether he was diagnosed, or has a history of mental illness, doesn’t matter.

As always . . . Acts of heroism emerge in chaos of Las Vegas shooting

Rob Ledbetter’s battlefield instincts kicked in quickly as bullets rained overhead.

The 42-year-old U.S. Army veteran who served as a sniper in Iraq immediately began tending to the wounded, one of several heroes to emerge from the deadliest mass shooting in modern U.S. history. Amid the massacre in Las Vegas, which left 59 people dead and more than 500 injured, there were acts of compassion and countless heroics that officials say saved many lives.

There was a man one survivor knows only as Zach who herded people to a safe place. There was a registered nurse from Tennessee who died shielding his wife.

More of this . . . ISIS release new video, bragging that Las Vegas shooting is REVENGE for US attacks against their ‘caliphate’

Islamic State has released a new video bragging that the Las Vegas massacre was revenge for US attacks against their caliphate.

In what appears to be a desperate publicity stunt, the terror group claimed the horrific acts of Stephen Paddock, 64, were down to them, saying they radicalised him months before he shot 59 people dead and injured 527 more on Sunday night.

FBI officials rubbished the claims, saying he had no affiliation to any terrorist organisations, but the Islamic extremists took to their propaganda news agencies to spread the word.

  1. “Ban guns. All guns. Get rid of guns in homes, and on the streets, and, as much as possible, on police.” — Talk is cheap… walk the walk and try taking them…

One thing that continues to bother me is why the LV shooter brought so many guns? Even the fruitcake Dorner didn’t hump in that many.

    • To further prove the point. It wouldn’t surprised me at the end of this we learn he was a devout anti-gun leftist who was willing to die for his cause. Further, that he took meticulous steps to make sure everything he bought and used was legal to prove his belief that we need serious gun control in the US by committing an act so heinous the politicians would have no choice but to change the law/Bill of Rights to quell public outrage. Basically, a real life version of “The Life of David Gale” but with a different cause.

      • That’s honestly exactly what I’m guessing. Major pro gun bill about to see congress, everyone’s (liberals that is) on a major hate trump and those ignorant conservatives spree.

I bet a little digging may show that he killed a lot of innocents to prove that it could be done and that guns are evil…

      • This is where my instincts lead me as well. This dude meticulously planned this. Hotel rooms were booked far in advance (I have read on the order of months) for that concert. If the dude just wanted to commit mass murder a kamikazie run in either his plane or a larger rented one loaded with whatever incendiary would have been more headline grabbing and effective at mowing down innocents. He chose his mayhem method for a specific reason.

    • Charles Wittman brought an entire Footlocker full of guns and gear with him and hoofed it up a clock tower all for no real apparent reason.

      • I’m no doctor (well, technically I am, but that’s just a J.D., and most people don’t count that), but Chapman had a brain tumor and may have been legit insane.

        • That’s been a theory for a while.

This guy could have had a similar problem or he could have just been nuts and good at hiding it.

My maternal grandmother covered up the fact that she was a dangerous, and I do mean dangerous, nutjob until she was 78. It was only figured it out because 1) she lived with us and 2) my mother randomly came home early. This old lady was wicked smart. Good enough to weave lies together and not get busted for it for over 50 years.

  2. Well, there have been many times when ISIS falsely claimed credit for violent actions, right? Such as . . . .

Okay, I can’t think of any.

    • Apparently there was one this summer, according to the folks who track this stuff.

Of course, they’ve been getting their *sses kicked lately in Syria and Iraq, so they may have decided to give it a shot.

  3. Fall for it? He’s salivating at any chance to sell out. Hell he probably orchestrated it and put that harpy at the podium to further the obsolete and toxic idea of “bipartisanship”.

I wish we could recall commie scum like Ryan, McConnell, McCain, and Graham…

  4. Ryan probably though the whole thing up, as well as collude with democrats to push it forward. He just needed the harpy to demand it so as not to appear complicit in selling us out. Then he can proclaim that toxic idea, and leftist code word for selling out, “bipartisanship”.

  5. Ryan is a uniparty piece of shit who needs to get thrown out of office in the midterms.

In other words, yes he’ll fall for it — willingly.

  6. Phoebe, an American who lives in Canada, thinks we should ban all guns–all of them–even police guns. Aside from the pragmatic impossibility of gathering up hundreds of millions of arms and tens of billions of rounds of ammunition, what are we to do–what are the police to do–when confronted by a man armed with a knife or machete, sane, sober, or not? Oh, we will need to ban knives, like England did. And everyone gets their own personal taser–oh wait, then bad guys would have them too to conveniently disable their victims while robbing and raping them. How are we going to manage wild game, or are we to just let it starve itself down to a manageable population? The list of what goes wrong if she got her wish demonstrates that she has no brains or lives in some kind of utopian bubble of bliss that reason cannot penetrate.
Phoebe! Oh Phoebe! Wake up, Phoebe. There has never ever been a time in human history where men have been without arms of one sort or another, even if those arms were pointy sticks and sharp edged rocks. And just looking at the world as a whole, there is no reason to suspect that this will change–or more importantly COULD change–within our lifetimes, and lifetimes far beyond.

  7. Of course Ryan will fall for this.

The repubs have proven themselves in all ways gutless and witless against the democrats.

I’m often ashamed to even identify with them.

  8. Maybe the victims should get together and sue the hotel — after all, it was supposed to be gun-free, and obviously the management failed in that.

That would be some common-sense legislation: any time “gun violence” occurs in a place the management/ownership has decreed to be “gun free”, all liability for harm done there with guns is on them.

  9. Filmed himself, eh? Well, that is truly demented. But at least it disproves the conspiracy theory making it around the interwebs that unidentified ISIS terrorists invaded his room, committed the shooting, and then made it look like he’d done it himself. Hey, at least it is a better theory than the guy who posted–as he always does–that this was a false flag event and all of the wounded were paid actors. Now HE bears “watching.” (I am certain that he believes–fervently–that he already is. But of course, if his beliefs were true, he’d have disappeared already.)

    • Perhaps the Illuminati are behind this: Affluent and wealthy men making large international transactions to backwater pacific countries, then later going on a mass killing spree for no apparent reason certainly isn’t the norm.

    • That disproves nothing until such footage is released. It is easy to claim anything if you don’t have to show verification. They also need to release hotel security footage of him humping all that iron and lead into the room. Seems unlikely carrying 30 guns (supposedly nearly all rifles) +ammo would go unnoticed. Rifle cases generally have a shape as well. I’m not saying there is a conspiracy here. I’m saying stay ever vigilant and question everything that could seem illogical, as this has happened at an all too convenient time. Not even counting that our govt has done and proposed such acts as this in the past (operation northwoods, operation Gladio in Italy, etc).

      • Sure it would. He used ten suitcases. He was there for days. Just bring a few up at a time, you could bring all ten suitcases up in two or three trips using the hotel’s luggage carts and no one would bat an eye.

  10. Falling for it indicates he would be tricked or fooled into agreeing. That spineless jellyfish is going to hop in with that harpy whole heartedly.

  11. Ban guns? Never. Gonna. Happen.
Now that we have that settled, this idiot is the Very reason I need a gun to protect me and mine. Until you, Pelosi, can guarantee my safety, you can pound sand.
Dennis Milleris right, she’s bat shit crazy.

  12. Some might argue that my combined experience and education regarding the mentally ill would prove my expertise very relevant. Vetting the documented-mentally ill is morally reprehensible given its potential to not only strip those who are undeserving of their second amendment rights being revoked, but the mere fact that it I should one more way for big brother to take your number My state in particular submitted the names of over 100,000 individuals who’s involuntary commitments ranged from a few days to months. Statistically, those who suffer from a mental illness are not really anymore of a threat to society than anybody else. Of course you don’t need to hand a 44 caliber over to the derelict yelling at his reflection in the store window.. but so many young adults face identity crisis end up getting committed from parents who are at their wits end. While some states have a way of restoring rights, the odds that you will ever get your rights back are slim to none. What society should be looking out for is the sociopath, the individual with no record and often times ruthlessly successful, while many are not feelings devoid humans, they go undetected. Also those who adhere to radical cults as well… the main point being is that the second amendment shall not be infringed, either above or under the table. Those of us who represent and work in the mental health field have nothing to do with the pure evil carried out by these idiots. Mental illness does not equate to psychopath, you can thank Hollywood for that nonsense.

    • Indeed.

Sociopaths are specially dangerous because they can, and have, slipped through the drag nets of psyche evals of all kinds, administered by seasoned doctors. They can get good at it and can go on to do it for years-on-end. You may never know you’ve encountered one until he or she walks up and smile-kills you, or is one day adjudicated by a court for doing that to someone else. They wouldn’t need any real reason, either, and often feel little or no remorse afterward. That is probably why the most successful serial killers are often sociopaths of one variety or another.

Of course, this is not to say that all sociopaths are proto-murderers-in-waiting. Far from it. Just that successful killers tend to have that trait.

      • IOW: the definition of “sociopath” is so loose that it could fit any-one;
IOW: its pretty much totally meaningless….

      • Excendrine Headache your a laugh a minute. Now your playing psychiatrist. Its obvious you have not a clue in regards to the difference between a sociopath and a psychopath. And Yes a trained professional would have denied Paddock a sale on a weapon and a stronger law would have locked him up. That’s how civilized societies work they don’t sell guns to nut cases and they lock people up who are nut cases. Now we know why you are so afraid of taking the test don’t we.

        • crisco kid, you’re projecting again. Now, I’m actually simply relaying the findings of real psychiatrists, whose works you are willfully unfamiliar, and it’s easy to see why. It’s actually obvious that you’re every bit as clueless as you like to pretend that I am. No, trained professionals can and have missed scores of individuals just like Paddock, so, no, “stronger laws” — whatever that’s supposed to mean — would not have had him locked up. Civilized societies don’t deny citizens their rights based on the actions of a handful of nuts. Now we actually know why you are so unafraid of taking the test, don’t we? You know you’d never pass, so you don’t care how badly you would corrode our civil rights.

Well, guess what? Your authoritarian wet dream of gun control is never going any further than it is now. (Not at the federal level, anyway.) In fact, if anything, it’s going to be rolled back even further once the furor over this tragedy dies down — and there is absolutely nothing that you or anyone else can think, say, or do to stop it.

  13. Going by some simple folks, why do you need so many guns, well duh. I have several because I like different calibers, different shoots, different sizes, different hide and open carry, different purposes as target to defense, different size of game on and on. Why do you own three cars, there is only you or maybe a spouse? why do you have three computers, why do you own two houses, why do you own 4 horses and 10 pairs of shoes. Do you get it yet!!! Now do you want to talk about ammo. Lets not get into prepping and taking care of yourself and not depending on someone else. Its time to grow up ppl.

  14. Dan, while I dislike Ryan intensely and don’t trust him as far as I could throw him, I don’t believe he is fool enough to sit down with that woman to negotiate anything. He will however sandbag both the HPA and National Reciprocity because he wants to save them for the party to use as a wedge issue next year. We can only hope he fails a primary challenge or someone unseats his sorry ass for Speaker.

  15. YouTube is awash with “conspiracy theories” on this….either false flag or out-right hoax…..
    Alex Jones calling “false flag”;
doesn’t really matter whether it happened or not…what matters is who ‘controls’ the narrative …..
if youse Yanks wanna keep yr guns…then…..you should be spruiking ‘conspiracy’ like mad…..and burying the main-stream media…..

  16. wealthy retiree, grand-father and recreational gambler with no criminal history and no known political or religious affiliations all-of-a-sudden decides to go on a mass killing spree……killing perfect strangers who’v never done him the slightest harm….yeh, right! 😏
if you believe that crap, then, i got this big, coat-hangar-shaped bridge in Sydney that i can sell you… cheap !

(check Michael Savage/Savage Nation radio excerpt on YouTube….interviews Paddock’s former neighbour… ex-USMC….says its almost inconceivable that he could’v done this)

    • Presuming that guy really knew the shooter. Anyone could call a radio show and claim to know him / be his neighbor.

  17. Pelosi lacks any “common sense” in demanding special counsels now to determine any gun control BS! The victims aren’t even cold in their graves yet and all she can do is flap her lips (NOT the ones she talks with)!

  18. Any confirmation on the mass murderer’s political affiliation?

There is talk he would verbally abuse and belittle his girlfriend in public so her leaving may also be a contributing factor.

But that this had been planned over a year indicates a revenge or reprisal attack on those “Flyover hicks who elected Trump” over Saint Hillary.

Rich people sometimes have funny opinions about those they regard as “little people”.

    • check out the Michael Savage/Savage Nation YouTube i mentioned….can’t post links here…but….just ‘tap’ in “Michael Savage interviews the neighbor of the shooter”

if they can ‘fake’ CGI planes on 9/11….then…they can fake any-thing…

this is a psy-op….pure and simple…a last, desperate effort by DeepState/TPTB to dis-arm the US b’fr they start shoving their bogus NWO down every-one’s throat…

if the Yanks lose their guns…we’re ALL fucked! 😩

  19. Sadly Paul Ryan has never been for the people. He’s for Paul Ryan and his rhino buddies agenda only.
We need a speaker that will uphold their oath to the constitution and be for the people.
Quite frankly, he’s a bobbing idiot.

    • We need a government of men and women who will uphold their oath. Currently that is not the case on either side of the isle.

  20. One man killed President Kennedy.

People head to the conspiracy aisle because they cannot imagine one man is capable of this level of destruction. Truth is modern firearms combine with a will to use them is an effective combination for mass killing.

Local government needs to drop the binders and develop concealed counter-sniper teams for large public events. Returning fire is the only effective way to limit carnage.

    • one man killed President Kennedy

      uh…yeh, right!
you need to watch Oliver Stone’s “JFK”, methinks!

People head to the conspiracy aisle because they cannot imagine one man is capable of this level of destruction

      uh…NO!
people “head to the conspiracy aisle” when ‘the official story’ stretches credulity to breaking point and has more holes in it than a Swiss cheese…..and…when its obviously all ‘tied in’ with a putrid political agenda like mass civilian disarmament…..
there’s been enough questions asked over incidents like Dunblane, Port Arthur and Sandy Hook to cast a massive pall of suspicion over this whole she-bang….

      • Sandy Hook…a single man child murdered his mother then went live range on children. He commited suicide as well. The conspiracy was local governments ineffective response and a school district denying lawful self defense believing flesh, bone and reason stops a mad man.

It’s time to stop wondering about a murders motives and end them with counter ambush. Once local PD can switch from policing to hunter killer teams we can reduce the number of innocents murdered.

  21. Guy that has no .mil or .gov tactical experience and according to family isn’t a gun guy? My questions…

    1. He displays an outstanding amount of tradecraft. Quality and high priced equipment, cameras in the hallways to act as visual intel, ambushing from above to ensure clear fields of fire, shooting from the hotel to ensure no police officer would return fire for fear of hitting an innocent bystander. This and more is the mark of a pro.

    2. He has an obscene amount of firepower in the hotel room. A pro wouldn’t have bothered with more than say 5 guns. 2-3 rifles and 2 handguns. It’s almost as if an arsenal needed to be discovered to maximize the media/gun grabber potential. There is no other reason for that number of guns.

    3. Reports say he and his girl dissappeared to the Phillipines for 6 months recently, she skeedaddled to the Phillipines right after, and he sent 100 grand to an account in the Phillipines last week. Isn’t the Phillipines like the worst country outside the Middle East as far as ISIS/Taliban terrorism? Yeah it is.

    This stinks to high heaven.

    • i’m betting that, if a proper ind. autopsy was conducted on Mr Paddock, then, it would prove that he died some-time b’fr the incident and, most likely, not from self-inflicted gun-shots….

      • Your assuming he’s dead. Maybe, maybe not. We are assuming Osama bin Laden is dead too, he may be by now, but come on,, burial at sea before the sunrise or some shtt.

        • well….yeh!
the photos floating around may not even be of him…..who knows, eh?

    • I once watched a show on serial killers. They asked some FBI guy why serial killers got away with it for so long. He said it wasn’t that they were smarter than other people, they just didn’t think about anything else. The dude didn’t need to be a delta ninja seal operator. He just needed to be a whack job who spent months and months thinking about how to kill a lot of people.

    • I am not much for conspiracy theories anymore, but this, to me, does not add up either. I fully agree on the amount of weapons he had, way too many. Did he expect to use them all? A pro would not have bothered with bump-stocks. Too inaccurate, especially at that range. I could not hit a paper plate at 10 yards with one. If they were illegally converted to FA, then it would be harder to say we need to ban AR’s and bump-stocks (which were in the last version of the proposed AWB).

Who has funded the campaigns against us? Who has an unlimited budget for that reason? Who, up until this event, was doing very poorly with their propaganda campaigns against us? Michael Bloomberg. Look at the victims: country music fans. Not exactly people whose ideologies mesh well with the anti-gun crowd (just like the baseball field shooting in DC). Look at the timing, in regards to the HPA/Share Act: the events occurred very shortly before a crucial vote.

What if somebody had a way to make somebody more suggestible to ideas and acts? We know that CIA studied it in the 1960s and 1970s with LSD (MKUltra). I have heard that scopolamine can be used in such a fashion. I’m not saying it happened, but what if…. As I (and others) have said, something is very off about all of this.

  22. Ryan the RINO is capable of great evil.Wouldn’t be surprised at treason. The line on the shoot is ludicrous…mayhap ISIS is truthful THIS TIME. Old dude is a terrorist and I guarantee he was a leftist POS. Target mostly younger white patriotic folks at a concert. And they let his Filipino galpal escape-after he wired $100000. And she got off social media the day before…😡😡😡😡

    • “a terrorist”?
      pull the other one!
his own brother said he had no political/religious affiliations….
this thing had obviously been planned for months….
if he all of a sudden became “a terrorist”, then, it must’v occurred over-night!

      nah!

this crap has got (dot)gov PSY-OP writ large all over it!

    • I’m always accused of my conspiracy theories, lol, I’m starting to think ISIS leaders are in cahoots with the U.S. gov., To many things are adding up. China wanting south China Sea, all of a sudden the Philippines want the U. S. back because ISIS problems, presto five navy bases open? If Im wrong on my facts let me know. .

  23. Las Vegas …. agenda driven event
Anyone who just listens to any of the videos of the the shooting can hear multiple firearms being simultaneously fired…. multiple shooters for sure!

  24. I think all the TTAG. talking heads need to lay off the caffeine and calm down. JEEZ guys…….do you ever stop and listen to yourselves? You sound like chicken little. OHHHH…….THE SKY IS FALLING! OHH, IF WELOSE OUR GUN RIGHTS FREEDOM WILL EVAPORATE BECAUSE THE CONSTANT THREAT OF VIOLENCE IS ALL THAT MAINTAINS IT!!!!!!! OHHHHH NO MR. BILL……NOOOOOO!!!!.

    • I’d laugh, however the Jews in Nazi Germany said the same thing. Pull your head out that dark stink hole and wake-up.

    • Won’t do any good. To bolster Ryan’s spine just not going to work with a phone call. He has failed, the RePubs have blown it. Schumer and Pelosi will regain power and continue the Obama’s destruction of Freedom and Liberty.

  25. If only for our safety, if only to save the children, if only to keep the snowflakes from melting. Time to do away with the Bill of Rights. Erase the Constitution and adopt a N Korea like government and society. Of course, we’ll need a large elite class to have rule over us unwashed serfs who will be exempt.
Folks this is SARCASM! However, its the real dream of the control freaks. I should know. Living in commie kaliforna we are getting a taste of the first steps towards the lefty progressive goal.

  26. From the article:
    “Ban guns. All guns.”
    and then this:
“Don’t sort the population into those who might do something evil or foolish or self-destructive with a gun and those who surely will not. As if this could be known—as if it could be assessed without massively violating civil liberties and stigmatizing the mentally ill.”

So, we SHOULD NOT attempt to determine who is or is not evil because it would require a massive violation of civil liberties — but we should massively violate civil liberties to disarm the populace.

Once again a Progressive demonstrates that violating our rights is A-OK as long as Progressives get to choose.

  27. Are we so paranoid, if a certain type of weapon is banned, all weapons will be? I highly doubt it. The assault rifle, or what ever you want to call it, really has no purpose in the civilians rifle case.

Our image as gun advocates has taken a beating. Maybe it’s time for us to work together, pro and anti-gun, on a solution.

    • Uh, in case you haven’t noticed, the slippery slope IS in fact very real. That you apparently don’t think it is doesn’t even matter. They’re trying push us further down into the void from which rights never come back. The (non)arguments of “purpose” and “need” are irrelevant nothingburger wordsalads, period.

Our image as civil rights advocates — of which you are absolutely nothing of the sort — because the gun-grabbers are not and have literally never, ever been interested in actual solutions. They’re about banning guns and taking them away from us, and yes that IS the ultimate goal of gun control because THAT’S how these laws are enforced, because real solutions don’t involve gun control. Full stop. They only want to signal their virtue just so they can say, “Hey, look! We did something!” And THAT’S IT.
