Fresno PD says stockless 10/22 is a short barrel rifle . . . Southwest Patrol Officers Arrest Armed Suspect During Patrol Check

On Monday, September 11, 2017, Southwest Officers Yessie Hernandez and Gilberto Quezada were conducting crime suppression patrol in the area of White and Warren Avenues. They saw a Recreational Vehicle illegally parked in a dirt lot near this intersection and decided to do a patrol check on the vehicle. A female subject was sitting on the ground in front of this vehicle, the officers approached her to determine why the vehicle was parked illegally. The female was identified as Leticia Sept, a 26 year old Fresno Resident. As the Officers approached they saw Leticia had quickly hid a rifle on the ground next to her. The rifle was a Ruger .22 caliber rifle, which had been modified by having the butt stock removed. It was determined that the rifle was an illegal short barreled rifle. Leticia was in possession of this rifle in violation of California gun laws. Leticia also was in possession of composite knuckles and an illegal narcotic. Leticia was booked into the Fresno County Jail for the weapon and narcotic violations. With this arrest the officers removed a dangerous firearm from the streets of Fresno and from an area that has had prior gun violence and is known for Human Trafficking.

Avoiding trouble areas . . . Germany’s ‘deadliest company’ pledges to stop selling guns to crisis regions

Heckler & Koch, the German weapons manufacturer whose guns are estimated to have killed more than 2 million people since the company was founded in 1949, has quietly adopted the most ethical sales policy of any gunmaker in the world.

The company has pledged no longer to sell arms into warzones or to countries that violate corruption and democracy standards, including Saudi Arabia, Israel, Egypt, the United Arab Emirates, Turkey, Malaysia, Indonesia, or any African countries.

Though never officially announced, the new strategy was included in Heckler & Koch’s latest yearly financial report, and confirmed at an annual general meeting in August. A spokesman said that the firm had “withdrawn from the crisis regions of this world”.

What passes for entertainment now . . . BoJack Horseman aims at gun control and fails to hit the target

The topic in question is gun violence, which is now in addition to imperiling millions of men and women is now imperiling the release of Courtney Portnoy’s new film Ms. Taken. Diane agrees to interview Courtney to shift the focus of the film away from its gun play, only to find herself caught up in the fervor when a raccoon starts to get nasty and Courtney pulls a gun in response. Diane accepts Courtney’s offer to hold it and gradually goes to the territory of The Simpsons’s “The Cartridge Family,” gripped with a feeling of power like God must feel when he’s holding a gun. And from there she uses her position as GirlCroosh blogger to write a screed in favor of gun rights, soaring to the top of the Click Board over “Swipe Left On Patriarchy!” and the penis outlines of not one, but two Hemsworths.

I’m thinking this says more about Porsche owners than it does about gun owners . . . Porsche driver accused of shooting homeless man who asked her to move car

A woman in Nashville has been charged with attempted murder in the shooting of a homeless man. Authorities say the man was critically wounded after he asked her to move her Porsche.

Police say Katie Quackenbush, 26, shot Gerald Melton, 54, late last month near Nashville’s Music Row. They say he was trying to sleep on the sidewalk at 3 a.m. but was disturbed by exhaust fumes and loud music coming from a Porsche SUV. When he asked the driver to move the car, the exchange became heated.

Detectives say that after Melton returned to where he was sleeping, Quackenbush got out of the Porsche with a gun to continue the argument. He suffered two gunshot wounds to the abdomen, and he told police she then got back into the Porsche and drove away.

Not really new, but worthy of note . . . The ABA is Committed to Due Process, Unless You’re a Gun Owner

The ABA, whose primary purpose is to set academic standards for law schools and propose codes of ethics for lawyers, has never been too fond of the Second Amendment. As early as 1965, the ABA favored restrictive gun control. What is surprising about this resolution, though, is the lack of attention paid to the due process rights of gun owners. In its resolution, the ABA explicitly endorses issuing GVROs ex parte, meaning the constitutional rights of the accused could be stripped without the opportunity to defend himself in court.

The ABA has often fancied itself a bulwark of due process, fervently defending the rights of unpopular groups including enemy combatants, illegal immigrants, and war criminals. Resolution 118B, though, barely pays lip service to the due process rights of gun owners. Clearly, whatever commitment the ABA has to due process is second to political expediency, raising serious questions as to the Association’s commitment to the Constitution.

Hard to see how . . . Federal concealed-carry bill would make Jersey more dangerous

In New Jersey, we have worked to pass some of the toughest gun-control legislation in the country, and we cannot afford to have those efforts rolled back by an overreaching federal law that would put the safety of our citizens and law enforcement officers in jeopardy.

In a nation where many of our elected officials are in the pocket of the National Rifle Association, buying a gun has become as easy as walking down the street and buying a gallon of milk. Because many of our lawmakers refuse to stand up to the NRA, we have experienced a slow and dangerous creep of access to tools that are being used to compromise our community and law enforcement. This federal bill would be another vehicle that would allow special interests to sell more guns in a nation where 300 million firearms are already in circulation. This makes me sick.

  1. H&K guns have killed more than 2 million people? By themselves? I have 1 rifle and it won’t even take out the trash.

The ABA defends only _approved_ liberties.

    • The ‘music’ they used was obnoxious noise.

And the ‘brothers’ Gould were nearly as annoying with their continuous high-fiving and fist-bumping…

  2. “said it would now sell only to “green countries,” which it defined according to three criteria: membership of Nato or “Nato-equivalent” (Japan, Switzerland, Australia and New Zealand);”

Austrian? Irish? Finnish? H&K hates you even more!

    • The House Majority Leader and the Speaker of the House decide if it comes up for a vote. Or a majority can bring it to the floor by a discharge petition.

      • Rumor has it that both Ryan and McConnell are blocking consideration of any national reciprocity bill, the former because “the time isn’t right.” I have to wonder what “consideration” these guys received from the Dems for this concession. And don’t bother trying to write to them to complain: they only accept correspondence from their own constituents.

        • The amount of fail that politicians commit beggars belief. Incompetence, at some point, runs out of explanatory power, and malice becomes the motivation that makes since to me.

      • Excuse me? Are you trying to say that “three reasons not to buy an iPhone” isn’t incisive, insightful analysis of an important issue facing the gun community?

  3. HK wont sell guns where there is war ?
They dont make skeet guns….are they serious?
    Are they self-liquidating the company?

And New Jersey….did you expect anything else?

  4. “buying a gun has become as easy as walking down the street and buying a gallon of milk”

Yep. Went to the Mini Mart and it took a half hour for the NICS computer to process my milk purchase request. On a brighter note, I did eat two corn dogs while filling out my Dept of Agriculture Form 4473 for Dairy Products

    • Don’t you hate it when they lie like it’s the Opposite Day? It USED to be as easy to buy a gun as gallon of milk (as it should be). You could go and pick up one at your lgs, hardware store or gas station. Money on table, walk out with a gun. You could order one and have it delivered to your door. Just like milk.
Then a-holes like this one started the slow creep towards today’s state of affairs. Today you are implicitly considered unfit to buy (or in case of Illinois to even touch) a gun until proven that you have been a good boy and you have to ask for permission from the .gov. To add insult to injury, you not only may have to wait for up to three days, you have to pay for the pleasure.

But for the grabber it’s never enough. If they can’t get complete firearms ban, they try to ban carry in more locations.
Ban more features, lower ammo capacity. Ban whole classes of arms. Too short, too big, shoots too fast? Ban them!
Ban more and more people. Felony is not enough today, mere misdemeanor is disqualifying.
The more taxes, regulations and red tape they can pile on gun ownership and use, the merrier.
First Obama with book and fresh vegetables, now this liar with milk. They do raise my blood pressure.

    I like Leticia

    • Don’t forget the “narcotics”! (Hopefully something good..)

      Oh well, Fresnecks….

As to the Pepper owner, I’d need a lot more data to indict her. I’m sure the shiftless drunk/heroin addict/cracked/whatever “homeless person” was utterly polite, and civilized in his ‘request’ that she quit disturbing his beauty sleep. Maybe he had an early board meeting to attend. I (might, depending on circumstance) feel sorry that he is homeless, but when you live on the street, putting up with the noise is part and parcel of the deal. You don’t get to take offense at well, much of anything.

Sure, if she went to retrieve the gun, and shot him unprovoked, it would certainly be less than stellar on her part. But I can guaran-effen-tee that the filthy bum was obnoxious, in her face, threatened her, and much more. She should have just driven off, maybe after throwing some food at him. Noblesse oblige and all that. But the bum awakened her inner redneck, and she went all Tennessee on him. If you’ve actually dealt with drug-addled and/or mentally ill homeless folks, you know that they can readily push normally civilized people over the edge.

I’d never club a baby seal, but there have been a few bums over the decades where it would have be very, very justifiable to tee up the Louisville slugger on their cranium.

    • Wouldn’t it be a rifle illegally converted to a pistol, not an SBR? Or would it fall under some other classification like the mossberg shockwave?

  6. ABA Telephone Person: How come you’re not a member and can we interest you in joining with dues waived for first year?

Me: How come you’re still a blatantly political Leftist front group.

    Click.

  7. BoJack Horseman? Meh.
It’s the Simpsons for furries, and I can kill just as many brain cells with a bottle of Patron than watching this horsesh!t, and at least with the tequila I’d enjoy myself.

    • Well, maybe you can at least translate for the rest of us what the quoted material was saying? I am afraid I have no clue what a “Hemsworth” I or what that has to do with penis outlines..

      • Hemsworth is the last name of a trio of brothers from Australia who are actors, one is famous for playing Thor in the Marvel movies and another for playing one of the boyfriends of the main character in the Hunger Games movies, and the third I can’t remember anything he’s been in but I do know he also acts.

  8. That trick shooting video brought a smile to my mug.
Not only do I enjoy doing that, I’m glad a younger crowd is promoting it.
    I miss Herb Parsons.

    • Tom, *PLEASE* tell me you don’t high-five and fist-bump every 5 seconds…*please*…

And you have better taste in music than that screeching crapola they were playing… RIGHT?

Now, a trick-shot video with music from Rush’s ‘Moving Pictures’ would be righteous…

“Though his mind is not for rent “- BLAM!-BLAM!…..BLAM!-BLAM!

“Don’t put him down as arrogant “- BLAM!-BLAM!…..BLAM!-BLAM!

“He reserves the quiet defense” – BLAM!-BLAM!…..BLAM!-BLAM!

“Riding out the day’s events!” –BLAM!-BLAM!-BLAM!…..BLAM!-BLAM!-BLAM!

      …etc.

      • First, I rarely fist bump, and only high five my granddaughter.
Second, I actually had to watch that video a second time because I didn’t remember any music. Weird. And yeah, that was annoying.
Third, good call on Rush. One of the best rock bands EVER!
No music. Got to let the shooting stand on its own.
Then again, maybe that’s why my audition tape didn’t get me a spot on Top Shot. No music…

      • It’s called “demographics,” and obviously you’re not in the targeted one.
Neither am I, but I still know what they are.
Most of the “music” of today also doesn’t target me, but I at least recognize that.

    • Really. It’s not like the barrel was sawn off, just the stock, turning it into a pistol. I am going to have to research this, since it doesn’t make sense to me that this is an illegal configuration for a .22 rifle/pistol. Maye I am wrong, but I wasn’t aware that .22s ae even subject to the set of laws that apply to ARs and the like, where a minimum over all length for rifles is mandated (but not for pistols). For quite some time now, a legal end-run around the ban on SBRs here was avoided by building a pistol configuration with an arm brace, where there is no barrel length minimum. (I am kind of vague on those laws, since the AR pistol was never of any interest to me.)

      • The pictures posted around other sites, the so called sbr was just a barreled action. It was under 26 inches oal so they called it an sbr.

  9. HK won’t “directly” sell guns to crisis regions is probably what HK meant. I’m sure they don’t mind a little third party sales.

    • Well they haven’t been, at least.

They’re more than happy to pawn off their otherwise unsellable G36’s on Mexico and below.

  10. On Cali gun laws.

This is how it always goes. Our gun laws are incomprehensible. So if the police come upon someone that they dont like for any reason and they have a firearm, it is almost impossible for that person to be innocent.

bet they were within 1000′ of a school too.

  11. Fresno, a great place to leave. Perhaps it’s time to print up some t-shirts with personalized screenprints of all the *registered*guns you currently own? hmmmm I might be onto something,

    • you can tell by their SS / Mussolini-ish cop uniforms.

      Massachusetts too.

There’s a lot of “Vere ‘r you papers? Hm????”

      goin on there

  12. “buying a gun has become as easy as walking down the street and buying a gallon of milk” Dude!!! Where are you getting your milk?

    • I didn’t know they had background checks for milk. Maybe that would explain why the milk price is garbage.
I also like how at the end he complains about more guns, then complains that there are already 300 million guns in the country. Does he really think making it harder to buy guns is going to have much of an effect when there are so many out there already?

      • The dude say’s it makes him sick that there are 300 million guns in America. So take a frigging aspirin, and I hope you choke on it!

        • If he doesn’t like the 3 million guns in America he can always leave, move to another country along with everybody else who thinks America needs to be changed. Anybody who dislikes America and guns, LEAVE, get the f–k out, nobody will miss you !!!

  13. RE: Bojack, the gun stuff was just background filler for moving the story with context for jokes. The jokes were at the expense of the gun control crowd perhaps moreso than at the expense of the pro-2nd crowd. A DGU was shown, a liberals transformation from hoplophobe to 2nd-A supporter was shown, the ultimate end of the gun control crowd was shown as being total banning in a major character describing a complete ban as “reasonable gun legislation.”

The AV Club should have stopped reviewing shows a long time ago. Their reviews are essentially “how well does this show confirm my personal bias?” 5 stars for very well and 1 star for not well enough.

  14. “…buying a gun has become as easy as walking down the street and buying a gallon of milk.” Background checks for milk? Dammit! That’s why we can’t have nice things!

  15. Funny thing about all the grief H and K got for the G 36 rifle
Germany donated thousands of them ( and .308 G 3’s) and a million rounds of ammo to the Iraqi Kurds
The Kurds love them and are detonating IED’s and killing Isis fighters with them

  16. I lived in Clovis CA for about 6 years. Very nice place. I only went into Fresno during the day, and only main streets. I had to go retrieve my girlfriend from the Fresno bus station one night and I don’t think I’ve ever been so wishing I was allowed to carry. I wasn’t mugged, but we were both harassed by a myriad of homeless people, and chased in the car by gang bangers. Clovis had NONE of the problems that Fresno had. I don’t miss that place.

  17. Almost makes me want to re-join the ABA so I can quit, again. I know 98% of lawyers give the rest a bad name; just don’t paint us all with the ABA brush.

  18. I’ve never been required to show ID, have a federal background NICS check, and register my purchase for a gallon of milk. Maybe lawyers are just afraid one of the persons they’ve screwed would be wanting to come back and discuss their case.

  19. A jury will nail the bitch to the wall and send her to prison where she belongs. They will put pressure on her girl friend to tell the truth and even if the man was standing at the time she will still go to the slammer because she went into her car and could have driven away but she did not. She retrieved a gun and then left the safety of the car and then went to confront and threaten him with the gun and then became the assailant whether or not it is true that he then threatened her. Legally she is toast and should be toast.

  20. As far as the HK article, Kudos to them for putting blind greed over morality. If more greed monger arms companies would follow the moral example of HK we would have far less violence and senseless wars in the world. By the way they are also one of the few arms companies that actually test their weapons before selling them. I never had a problem with any HK firearm I have owned, I cannot say that about the majority of the other modern made trash I have been burned with.

    • @cisco kid — You mean kudos to H&K for “putting morality over blind greed”, whatever that’s supposed to mean. Except that what actually happens is that these guns are bought by governments who then either sell them to their so-called “allies” like Saudi Arabia or Egypt who then go on to either resell them to their own state-sponsored terror groups — a sale in which the manufacturer has absolutely NO say in and absolutely NO foreknowledge of whatsoever — or upgrade their own arsenals. The same thing happens when our own government sells guns to, say, failed states like Mexico for example — whose government then “loses” them or their own goons simply defect and their issued guns go with them. Oh, and we would also actually have far less violence and far fewer senseless wars in the world if governments — and these ARE governments that people LIKE YOU vote for — would just quit waging them in the first place. By the way, H&K is not “one of the few” companies that “actually test” their weapons, whatever that’s supposed to mean, before selling them. Most every company does. H&K is generally more thorough about it, is all. Hence the price, I’d imagine.

    • Excedrin headache you never cease to humiliate yourself. If you had an ounce of experience with newly introduced firearms or even bothered to be less stingy and even subscribe to a few gun magazines you would see that the majority of newly introduced gun models go through endless recalls because of the blind greed of the gun manufactures wanting to get the gun to market before they even thoroughly test it. Hey Moron have you ever heard of the recalls on the last model glock last summer or the recall of the Remington .380 pistol or the caracal pistol or the latest variation of the ruger .22 pistol that goes bang when you drop it and ditto for the HK U.S. Military pistol doing the exact same thing. Now Genius winner of the the Alfred E. Neuman award am I getting the dim light bulb to come on in that retarded cranium of yours. Wake up what planet to do you infest. Of course you will deny any of these multitudes of guns ever got recalled because you will say they were “upgrades”. Try again Moron we all know what they really are and that is recalls.

      • correction on HK U.S. military pistol, I meant to say Sig Military Pistol. Did not even catch that one did you Excedrin headache.

      • I never cease to humiliate you. Neither does anyone else that responds to you. If you ever actually had even an ounce of the experience or cash to spend on guns that you claim, which you don’t in either case, you would see that new models don’t go through “endless recalls” and you’d also understand that gun magazines are paid to write only stellar reviews of arms and ammunition. Otherwise, they’d get no T&E units, period. So, moron, don’t lecture to those who already know far better than you do, ever have, or ever will. Now, (not)Einstein, we’ve already got one the many dim bulbs that lurk around these comment sections: i.e. you. Wake up yourself, and stop infesting this website with your demonstrably ignorant and flagrantly anti-rights filth. Of course, you’ll blindly make wild accusations of “endless recalls” and totally misunderstand the context of “upgrades,” too. You need to stop trying, moron, because we all know that you don’t know what you’re talking about, regardless of whatever it is that rattles off your hand-me-down keyboard.

        • to Excedrin headache

So now your denying all of the above recalls I mentioned do not exist huh? Try again Genius.

        • Except that I didn’t deny that all of those recalls happened, and if you had any reading comprehension whatsoever (which you still don’t) you’d know this. I only rightly pointed out your own willfully misinformed exaggeration about “endless recalls,” completely without proof or context.

You need to try again, village idiot.

Like I’ve already said, I never cease to humiliate you each and every time you post, and neither does anyone else who responds to you. It doesn’t even matter matter what you’re trying to talk about, either — especially if it’s not gun-related — you still don’t know your own ass from a hole in the ground. You never, ever did and you never, ever will.

  22. to Excedrin Headache

Quote from article:———————The company has pledged no longer to sell arms into warzones or to countries that violate corruption and democracy standards, including Saudi Arabia, Israel, Egypt, the United Arab Emirates, Turkey, Malaysia, Indonesia, or any African countries.————————–(what part of this do you not understand Excedrin Jr.)

Quote”——————–You mean kudos to H&K for “putting morality over blind greed”, whatever that’s supposed to mean. Except that what actually happens is that these guns are bought by governments who then either sell them to their so-called “allies————————–

Your reading comprehension is about absolute “0” what part of this do you not understand. Have your mother read it and explain it to you.

The company has pledged no longer to sell arms into warzones or to countries that violate corruption and democracy standards, including Saudi Arabia, Israel, Egypt, the United Arab Emirates, Turkey, Malaysia, Indonesia, or any African countries.

    • The German government was placing orders for arms to ship to those countries, much like the U.S. government places orders to ship guns to failed narco states like Mexico.

We already know your own reading comprehension is already deep in the negative, so quit projecting like always. Maybe after your mother feeds you another course of lead paint chips, she can read that to you before you pass out from heavy metal poisoning. I guess you’re also relieved to hear that they won’t be selling guns to black and brown countries anymore, what with you being so in-bed with gun control and all.

      • To Excedrin headache

HK sells directly to foreign governments they were not selling first to the German Government. What part of this do you not understand.
