From Valley Guns‘ Facebook page:
Attention F.B. fans: To follow will be several IMPORTANT Info updates about the status of the gun industry currently, followed by an INVENTORY UPDATE: We traveled to Texas for Industry meetings concerning the shortages, and here’s what we were told.
Smith & Wesson: Running at Full capacity making 300+ guns/day, mainly M&P pistols. They are unable to produce any more guns to help with the shortages.
RUGER: Plans to increase from 75% to 100% in the next 90 days.
FNH: Moving from 50% production to 75% by Feb 1st and 100% by March 1.
Remington – Maxed out!
Armalite: Maxed out.
DPMS: Can’t get enough parts to produce any more product.
COLT: Production runs increasing weekly…bottle necked by Bolt carrier’s.
LWRC: Making only black guns, running at full capacity …can’t get enough gun quality steel to make barrels.
Springfield Armory: Only company who can meet demand, but are running 30-45 days behind.
AMMO: Every caliber is now Allocated! We are looking at a nation wide shortage of all calibers over the next 9 months. All plants are producing as much ammo as possible w/ 1 BILLION rounds produced weekly. Most is military followed by L.E. and civilians are third in line. MAGPUL is behind 1 MILLION mags. Do not expect any large quantities of magpul anytime soon.
RELOADERS:
ALL Remington, Winchester, CCI & Federal primers are going to ammo FIRST. There are no extra’s for reloading purposes. It could be 6-9 months b/f things get caught up. ….
Yes, I have the required Pistol Permit in Alabama & my EDC is a Ruger LC9 in a Desantis Nemesis holster (occasionally a Versacarry instead). Depending on climate or dress code, I may also opt for a Ruger SR9C in a FOXX IWB holster at 4:00 position. Since the gun-grabbers seem to think that either 7 or 10 rnds are somehow a magic #, I’m “safe” w/the LC9’s 7 rnd or SR9C’s 10, but I usually prefer to keep the SR9C packed w/its STANDARD 17 rnd mag instead & always carry extra magazines on my person when carrying the LC9. As to the Ukulele’s … my EDC (I travel weekly) is either a KoAloha, Kamaka, LoPrinzi, Sailor Brand, or Mya-Moe custom (Bing either to learn a bit about the reach of those makers.)
The Ukes gives me another pass time when I can’t go to the range & have dry-fired all my trigger finger can stand!
I think gun owners care more about keeping there guns and keeping there magazines than that 60% that support more gun control cares about gun control. I think in the end we win were really breaking through here. Gun owners not letting themselves be ashamed and showing they have the dignity needed to be free people.
Scalia says Heller “does not protect those weapons not typically possessed by law-abiding citizens for lawful purposes, such as short-barreled shotguns.”
The irony does not escape me.
SBRs and SBSs are not typically possessed by law-abiding citizens because of the red tap and the $200 stamp. Criminal, unencumbered by these, can do as they please. However, as the $200 is eaten away by inflation, I suspect more and more of us will go that route (yes, I’ve already put my money where my mouth is), thus making them “typically possessed” by common folks.
The NY model has the claws removed and the diameter of the head cannot exceed 3/4″.
Wow so my reloading stuff that I got for Christmas is going to sit their unused a while longer
Quote, under AMMO: “Most is military followed by L.E. and civilians are third in line.”
It would be a NO-BRAINER for the ammo manufacturers to:
Civilians FIRST, followed by whatever….
If states like NY and the other gun grabber legislation states found out that they were LAST in line…
Hmmm….
They would indeed be brainless to put civilian buyers first – I mean for no upside whatsoever they could piss off their biggest single client (gov), and also open themselves up to accusations that they are making the lives of our brave lads out killing brown people harder.
Why would they ever do that?
Took the words right out of my mouth – Meatloaf
1) Ammo distributors know what the military normally buys and should keep feeding their normal volume, but not a round more. 2) As for LE, don’t sell to those states or localities that the ‘brass’ has supported gun restrictions. Same rule applies, normal volumes for all other departments. Not a round more.
Makes sense to me.
That’s a very nice sense of self-entitlement you have there. Tell me, will you be volunteering to explain to the war widows why their husbands died for want of ammunition so you can plink a bit?
All business prioritize there biggest customers first followed by the mid-size and in the end there smaller ones. Well in Guns and Ammo the Military is the big dog. Followed by Law enforcement and my 100 boxes of ammo a year is on the bottom.
Thanks
Robert
PS. I never count how many boxes I buy and 100 boxes is a made up number.
Taken together, civvies are way more important than LE as customers. And probably more profitable, too, since LE expects big discounts.
I suspect the military has contracts with a lot of the ammo makers to get first call, but with Iraq over and Afstan winding down, I would think that military is taking a lot less than they were 5 years ago.
They have to fulfill contractual obligations before they do other orders.
I have a hammer made by Ruger that is actually made from titanium.
No kidding.
Wow. Not very good news on ammo, eh?
Morehead City and Chicago Comparative Crime Ratios per 100,000 People
Murder Comparisons per 100,000:
Morehead City, NC 11.1
Chicago, IL 16.4
National 7
http://moreheadcity.areaconnect.com/crime/compare.htm?c1=Morehead+City&s1=NC&c2=chicago&s2=IL
BTW, the city were I live is Portland Oregon. Oregon has a gun ownership rate of about 57%+ of adults which is higher than the national average. The murder rate in Portland is 3.7 people per 100,000 residents.
I’m just an old fud, can I get one with a blue steel head and a walnut handle? Maybe something that can only hit two nails in a row?
Paint it black and call it an “Assault Hammer”.
Sell it for 2X normal cost too.
Don’t forget the zombie hammer.
Perhaps if people stopped buy things they didn’t want or need before this nonsense started everything will go back to normal…
“MAGPUL is behind 1 MILLION mags. Do not expect any large quantities of magpul anytime soon.”
I just got a hold of 15 brand new Magpuls pmag 30. The only problem is that none of them seem to fit into my Winchester ’94 lever-action which is my only long gun.
It helps to know retail store delivery schedules and to be on a first name basis with the staff. If you can’t be at a store on delivery days and times perhaps another person can do it for you. The gun department manager of a certain local retail store gets a printout of what is (hopefully) on the next day’s delivery truck. If it something we need, I show up there next morning when they open the doors. Last Friday, I was able to buy 170 rounds of Remington UMC .223 ammo for $76 (I don’t own a .223 gun) and turned it over to Chris Dumm.
Reloaders are fucked… thats nice. I have 100 primers left to my name…
Pissed doesn’t even begin to describe how I feel right now…
I am glad to see that there is coverage of yesterday’s events on ttag, this is real and scary for us in the (un) “free state” what is even worse was the coverage of it in the baltimore sun.
Almost had me. Almost.
AJC is accepting any dissent, my comment only lasted about 30 seconds, LOL
Why dissent? He’s right, we should be discussing bans on pistols and assault weapons.
It used to be the gun control conversation was all about pistols. Then it moved to assault weapons. Really it should include both, given the similarities (both designed to kill, both shoot bullets, both are usually semi-automatics, both have high capacity magazines, both are usually black, etc.). Should include hunting rifles, too, since they also have these same militarized features.
I look forward to hearing more from this gentleman.
We’ve given up enough already. No more, not another inch. “Compromising” for 30 just means it will be 20 the next time.
I stil lwould like to know how they can mandate that you have to apply to exercise your rights? Last time I checked, the majority of proposed legislation asking that voters submit a state issued identification got smacked down on consitutional grounds becuase it imposed “undue hardship” on economically disadvantaged folk, including minorities. Yet, in order to be able to buy a gun in several states, you have to “apply” for a “permit” to be able to do so, and pay several fees both during the application process, and in the renewal stages. Oh, and you STILL have to get the normal background check when you buy a gun, assuming you are “approved” to get the permit to do so. If you think too hard about how unconsitutional this is you may have a stroke.
Go, Glock, Go!
Mr. Colion says it well – the historical basis for black “leaders” being anti-gun is non-existent. However, I do respect their 1st Amendement rights to say stupid things. Given Glocks excellent PR capabilities, I’m sure that they will weather this storm just fine. In fact, I’ll probably be at ProForce in Brea, CA Feb. 15 when R Lee Ermey (AKA Gunnery Sgt. Heartman) will be signing the boxes of Glocks being sold. The last time I was there I lost a hot dog to my surprisingly agile Weimaraner.
I’m pondering trading in my Glock 35 for a 22. I’d rather just buy another one, but my cash flow is a little short. 15 rounds of .40 Smith is a beautiful thing.
I guess DHS must have been busy buying up the stock……
What does “100%” capacity even mean? Buy the empty factory next to you and start cranking that sh@t out!
Winchester said at SHOT that they had been at “100%” capacity since 2008! Do they have something against putting more Americans to work?
FN (Winchester) has started shipping their US-made parts to Portugal for assembly.
Sounds like everything ended the way it should!
This should give you some idea of how this guy operates:
The Rev. Markel Hutchins, an Atlanta minister who served as a spokesman for the family of Kathryn Johnston, the 92-year-old woman who was killed by Atlanta Police during a botched drug raid in 2006, is now suing her estate for allegedly failing to pay him for his services.
The community activist and former congressional candidate claims he made a verbal agreement with Johnston’s family that he’d receive 10 percent of the $4.9 million settlement from the city for his work.
http://clatl.com/freshloaf/archives/2011/08/26/markel-hutchins-suing-kathryn-johnston-estate-for-nearly-500000
I’m from Georgia and I remember this guy. He is a “preacher” and “reverend” only in name and more of a Jesse Jackson wannabe IMHO. He also has his own body guards that follow him around. If I were Glock, Inc. I would just ignore him as this is nothing more than a publicity stunt meant to bolster his following. Guys like this want reduced crime and improvement of their communities ONLY if they can take all the credit for it. Otherwise, they go home to their nice big homes with their private security and couldn’t care less what goes on in their community except for the opportunities to do crap like this.
Very proud of you guys. I’m way out west, but know we’re with you.
Right. I’m sure Glock, Inc. will immediately take their position into account and recall all of their urban violence advocates.
Gut feeling: I think this is just an internet hoax.
Apparently, if we didn’t have guns, then the gangster culture would disappear. Anyone that believes that, please google “Atlanta Mom Tasered By Security Guard” and tell me that guns are the problems in inner cities.
Welcome Griswold. Do you knit covers for your pistols?
I got a hint of all of this back in October. Just so happened that on the last weekend in October my LGS had an anniversary sale. They had the Sig 516 on sale for $1099 – I jumped on it, along with a bunch of Magpul window mags, a Nikon Monarch mildot scope, tactical rings and Harris bipod :). Total cost was about the normal retail of just the rifle!

There is a legal answer here under gov’t procurement law.
I suspect the ammo manufacturers have IDIQ contracts with the US Military (indefinite delivery/indefinite quantity) so they get what they need, as much as they need. Also, be advised that a lot of contracts with the military are “rated” under the Defense Priorities Allocations System (DPAS)Program: (http://www.bis.doc.gov/dpas/default.htm), which rating simply put means that supplies for the “war effort” go to the military/national defense first. Since we have been at “war” for the last 11+ yrs, then the ammo manufacturers are legally required to supply the military first. Otherwise, technically, they could be taken over by the gov’t and forced to direct all production towards the “war” effort. Yes, it is legal. I suppose the contracts with the rest of the USG (ie, dept of homeland security) are really subcontracts from the military to the other executive departments so they can take advantage of the ammo contract ratings (although DHS can use its own DPAS authority). Yes, it is legal, and it is common for “group purchase” discounts.
“Democracy in action is a beautiful thing.”
They’ll pass it anyway.
Greetings!!!
This is an awesome novelty. Ill deffinatley buy one if they become available again, “Temporarily Out of Stock” :'(
Didnt the dad in Gremlins make a fully automatic hammer?
It’s a shame I have to drive through MD to see friends in Philly. My VA CC class warned of the draconian MD gun laws. How I miss TX and AZ. Someday….
Their minds are made up. We are just going through the charade of hearing “the voice of the people”. Quite honestly, I’m really thinking of moving to Texas.
Sorry Dave S your post wasn’t up when I started typing. But it’s like they are past pretending to give a damn about us. They want complete and total control and A2 is the only thing in their way.
Check this out: http://youtu.be/R3nXvScRazg
Racial profiling at its finest? Nah, that would never happen in L.A.
Maybe we can start the rumor that Feinstein was behind his firing.
Mark N. — I live in arizona and that “friend” of yours that says there’s blood in the streets everywhere is lying to you. Phoenix isn’t the greatest place but neither is any other big city and you have to look at the whole state and not just one area. I even live in the bad part of town where I live and you don’t see that happening. People know to leave everybody alone BECAUSE of the fact that so many have guns here. We have people in town to open carry but not as much as you would think. I VERY rarely see someone open carry. I like the laws here in arizona and I can tell you, I have guns and have never had to shoot them unless I’m at a shooting range practicing.
I understand the cops want this cop killer and general danger to the public bad. Honestly if they do what the state of California won’t (Death Penalty) I am not so worried about that either.
That said, looks like the LAPD is still the LAPD. I know we are lacking a few details but the fact it has happened twice IMO shows the cops looking for this guy are on a hair trigger and need to cool it a bit. Seriously, when did the LAPD and NYPD start a contest “Who can shoot the most civilians in a day and get away with it”
I don’t know what is more dangerous, meeting Dorner in a dark alley or the cops.
I’m still hoping Remington leaves New York, but seeing as they are the oldest company in the United States which still makes its original product and the oldest continuously operating manufacturer in North American and have been in Ilion, New York since their founding, I doubt they will give up all that history. They will probably just continue to expand their other enterprises into other states, like they did with their ammo manufacturing.
I am still wondering how long DSA, Armalite, and RRA are going to stay in Illinois, however.
The post-9/11 militarization of the US law enforcement community is a policy issue that ought to be addressed at every level. After 9/11, the federal grants to local and state law enforcement spent untold billions on gearing up every beat cop into an urban commando. Law enforcement is increasingly able to bring massive firepower to bear on suspects and, in this case, innocents. And they appear to be doing so with greater frequency and as a first response, rather than a held in reserve last response. My city now has a tank, though perhaps an EM-50 Urban Assault Vehicle is more apt.
As a resident of Alabama, welcome Creedmoor!
I notice a lot of CMP connections on their website. I wonder if choosing Alabama as their new location has anything to do with the new range that the CMP is building in Anniston.
Buck Knives left the PRCa for northern Idaho back in 1999 or so – figured they would go bankrupt in Calif. They moved their manufacturing base to Idaho. Wonder when Kimber will leave NY? Funny how legislatures fail to understand that people and businesses will respond to their new tax laws by finding ways to avoid them – and frequently the best way to avoid state taxes is to leave the state. I will bet that Phil Mickelson (golfer) quietly leaves California this year. Based on his income, a move to Texas or Florida will save him about $6-7 million per year.
That’s motivation!
This just shows how stupid the former law enforcement exception in gun control bills are.
Bye, California. One day, after the earthquake, whatever’s still abovewater may turn into several fine states. But as is, I don’t know why anyone would want to do business there, from there, or anything to do with there.
In their testimony yesterday at the MD gun hearing, the Beretta rep said that if the law passed that might be the last straw for them.
I just read the national NBC story of this case–no mention of the two civilians shot or the third who was shot at. Do I need to wonder why?
That’s how this s*** works. The loudmouthed rapist becomes an upstanding citizen when he takes on the evil world of self-defense. FTFP!!!
As usual, Bruce Willis ROCKS!
Chris Rock should work on a new and fact filled bit. Instead of mortgages to buy bullets, he should talk about how African American males are on average responsible for almost 3/4 of ALL gun murders. FBI stats have it at about 67%. Every single year since the 70s, the percentages of black males murdering someone with a gun have rose. A race who holds only about 12% of the population is committing the majority of the gun murders, why not make this the issue if stopping murders is what they want? Chris Rock has no problem coming up with endless bits against his race to make them look dumb, angry, unintelligent and lazy, why can’t he do something important and help his race by speaking the truth about the issue?
I’m so sick of our nation and especially media being so PC, it does nothing but dodge the true issue of gun murder in our nation today.
On average it’s not assault rifles(about 50 gun murders a year). It’s not machine guns(about 2 murders a year). It’s not rifles in general(about 350 a year) it’s black males ages 15-45(about 7,500 gun murders a year).
And ironically Chris, most of those victims are black males as well. Seems the black community is both responsible for the majority of gun murders and the victim of most gun murders. The gun issue in the country IS A BLACK ONE, not a gun one. Yet we hear NOTHING in media or from politicians on a national level, only talk of bans and restrictions on firearms, which ironically again, seems to make it worse.
The man obviously has a superior mind. He can listen to testimony, play chess, and do his income taxes, all at the same time.
He’s MULTI-TASKING; GIVE HIM A BREAK.
Kellerman’s omission of non-fatal DGUs is like studying airline safety and disregarding all the flights that landed safely. Of course you’re going to end up with a skewed study that says flying on an airline is 86% fatal.
According to Kleck’s study, roughly 92% of DGUs never involve firing a shot for whatever reason. Of the remaining DGUs, 6% involve actually firing the gun – a miss, warning shot or wounding the perp and only 2% result in a lethal outcome for the perp. So, using these figures, let’s do a little math on Kellerman’s figures.
Out of his 420 homicides, 11 were successful self-defense and 21 were not. We can use 11 DGUs as a baseline. Thus during the survey period, we’d expect the following results if we could accurately gain a complete picture:
11 fatal DGUs = 2% of all DGUs = 1100/2 = 550 expected total DGU’s
That raw result says you’re 1.31 times safer with a firearm than without one.
If we deduct the 15 successful DGUs in the study, then it becomes 1.35 times safer with a gun.
I have seen three (3) different results for Kellerman’s study. The now infamous 1986 43-times statistic, the revised 1988 22-times statistic and now the 2.7-times statistic. If I recall correctly the 43x stat was the result of Kellerman using Seattle as the study location, the 22x stat came by comparing Seattle as a homicide source and Vancouver B.C., Canada as the “control” group because most handguns are prohibited in B.C. Then his final 2.7 times figure came from 1993 where he again used Seattle, but added Cleveland and Memphis. The one thing that stands out is that Kellerman did not release his data for peer review until after 1993. When he did (1996-97) it omitted his crucial data on whether guns used in the firearm homicides he studied belonged to anyone in the victim’s household. We know he had this data via other published papers. This data would show whether the firearm owned by the resident was responsible for the homicide or if the gun was brought in by another person. This could significantly change the outcome of the studies.
Government and other studies show a higher-than-normal homicide expectancy at any residence where ….
– One or more occupants has prior criminal convictions (misdemeanor or felony)
– One or more occupants use drugs.
– One or more occupants sell drugs, even occasionally.
– One or more occupants is an alcoholic or drug addicted.
– Police responded to more than one “domestic dispute” call in a calendar year.
– One or more occupants is/was a member of a street gang.
Lacking these risk factors, guns in the home are overwhelmingly used safely. The safety of privately owned guns ranges from approximately 91% to 99%.
October 2007 CNN “An off-duty sheriff’s deputy used a police-style AR-15 rifle to kill six people at an early morning party in a small Wisconsin town, officials said Monday.” 30 rnd mag
This guy here is a cop.
Question: How many cops kill. How many cops are there?
How many 2A gun owners are there? How many kill?
If someone has the numbers and can do math, are cops more dangerous than us, on a percentage basis?
By “and other assault bullets” I’m assuming they mean any fragmenting or deforming ammunition. I’m not familiar with California’s hunting laws but I know a lot of states ban the use of non expanding ammunition for hunting, so won’t this effectively kill most hunting rights too?
Just remember if you vote for any Democrat this is what you are voting for. They hide behind a facade that they support the second amendment but they would repeal the 2nd and take every gun in this country, by force if necessary, if they enjoyed the majority federally that they do in the rogue states of NY and CA. I don’t care if you send in a IAGO pic or how many guns you own, if you cast a single vote for the Democratic party at this point you are a traitor to the Constitution of the US and are party to violating the natural rights of your fellow countrymen. There is no middle ground.
He forgot the monthly Team SIG sweepstakes

Thanks for the review. Thanks for all the comments too.
As a AR newbie who is looking for a place to begin, this was very welcome. I’m looking at on of these lowers for $300.
Firearms and ammunition excise taxes are the backbone of conservation efforts in America at both federal and state level as a result of the Pittman–Robertson Federal Aid in Wildlife Restoration Act of 1937.
I found out about this a few months ago – am I the only person who was pissed to find out that every gun owner is punished to subsidize the minority that are hunters?
If public opinion is so much in favor of gun control then why do most articles/sites that are in favor of gun control have such a problem with allowing comments?
This coming from a guy who is surrounded by assualt weapons every time he steps outside. Hypocrite.
Poetic that this guy lives in California. Maybe he can turn himself in and run for office?
Everyone wants to be on the side that is using common-sense. It is more of a potentially dangerous fifth column term than a hot woman gun grabber celebrity. I think the pro-2A side needs to use the term the gun-grabbers are trying to steal and command: “common-sense”.
*It is common-sense to have armed adults in schools to protect the children.
*It is common-sense for parents to own guns (just like owning a fire extinguisher) for home defense.
*It is common-sense that all governments go bad and oppressive, and all societies and civilizations collapse.
*It is common-sense that one law abiding person defending himself and unarmed others from multiple attackers needs a high-capacity gun.
*It is common-sense that the 2A was written to empower free citizens to defend their lives, liberty, health, and welfare from government tyranny.
The bitter irony of this whole tragedy is that nobody is really talking about the relatively benign things that could have been done differently that would have had a better shot of preventing Newtown.
Is a gun safe full proof? No. Would Lanza have killed another way? Maybe, or it may have delayed him long enough that he would have gotten the help (or commitment) he needed.
Mandating secure storage is a tricky issue with lots of traps for the unwary, but it is nowhere near as likely to be as dangerous to the 2A as what we are seeing get traction now.
Who’s still buying magazines? The word holding kind, not the ammo holding kind.
Did anyone see the results of the demonstration against Morsi in Egypt?
He is no longer president.
That’s a really weird way to necro a four month old post.
