“A 22-year-old man found himself facing a summons after he told officers he fired his shotgun repeatedly upon finding masked suspects leaning in his window.” Huh? But the Vice President of these here U-Nited States said firing warning shots with a shotgun is the sine qua non in home defense strategy. Ol’ Double Barrel Joe even confided that he advised his own wife to do just that if she ever felt threatened in their home. Guess that doesn’t apply in Virginia. Trevor Snowden of Virginia Beach “told police his dog was acting strange. When he walked to his bedroom, he said he saw two masked suspects leaning in his open window” . . .
From wavy.com:
Snowden told police the suspects pointed weapons at him and told him to shut the bedroom door. Thinking the suspects were going to rob him, he moved into the hallway and retrieved a shotgun.
Moyers said Snowden fired through his bedroom door, then opened the door and fired several more rounds toward the window. Any suspects fled the area and could not be located by officers.
Snowden’s been charged with reckless handling of a firearm. Since this was all just a misunderstanding – Trevor was obviously just following government sanctioned advice – we’re sure the Veep will be glad to cover his attorney’s fees and any fines that may be assessed.
Baruth was the reason i started becoming a regular reader at TTAC. his controversial “driving fast on public streets” guide kept me there for years.
Glad he’s back here, he was the best writer there and the most unique voice.
I’m glad it seems to be going well. I just want to express my honest gratitude to those who watch things like this and record their observations. Thank you for sparing me the fist-clenching, tooth grinding, aggravation of having to watch it myself.
“…fired several more rounds…”
He probably wasn’t using a double barrel shotgun (Link to quoted news report?). Everyone knows warning shots from an assault shotgun are dangerous, where as double barrel shotguns never hurt people of their own volition.
But double barreled shotguns allow you to fire more than one shot per second! These automatic weapons must be banned!
Do you have a link to the article the quote is out of?
Joe Biden’s advice was well intentioned, if utterly misguided.
The cops – or perhaps the DA – in Mr. Snowden’s neck o’ the woods are just plain stupid.
‘Course, there might’ve been a picnic going on just outside his window…
As a member of the bar association Joe should know better than to advise someone to break the law. Firing a gun into the air haphazardly will get you into two possible charges if nobody is hit; (a) Reckless Endangerment & (b) Deadly Conduct. If ones haphazard shooting results in injury then this ups the stakes.
My point here is that as a member of the bar Joe “Two-Booms” Biden should not be giving out any advise which would lead another to break a law. IMO he ought to be disbarred for giving that advise.
Indeed. I carry a gun for the same reason I keep a fire extinguisher in my car and house, for the same reason I have a first aid kit in the car and the house, for the same reason I keep emergency radios (ham and FRS) in our collection of stuff.
Prior planning prevents poor performance.
Well sure he’s in trouble, he did it wrong. Joe told his wife to walk outside onto the balcony and let off a couple shots. This guy could be cited for Criminal Non-Possession of a Balcony; I believe it’s a Third Degree Misdemeanor.
This picture is priceless. Rather than the traditional 1,000 words, I’d say this picture says exactly 8: “I have absolutely no idea what I’m doing.”
David Hardy is an extremely sharp lawyer. His website is:
http://armsandthelaw.com/
He has posted the transcript of his remarks there, but there’s lots of good stuff there if you are interested in legal issues surrounding guns.
I have posed the question to Taurus and Ruger this week. No response, and I didn’t expect one, but if enough ask they might feel compelled to respond.
I was completely in favor of FLOTUS’ “Let’s Move” campaign until I realized that it didn’t involve moving Barry out of the WH.
I don’t see how this relates to what crazy Joe advised to do. This guy didn’t fire any warning shots in the air. It looks like he was attempting to shoot at the robbers. As much as I want the rest of America to realize Joe’s stupidity, this article isn’t it. This is a bit of an overreach.
it was pretty clearly reckless aiming, had it NOT been reckless the thugs would be dead.
There has been a lot of talk about trying to get the big boys like Glock, Sig, and S&W on this list. I’ve been wondering though, would it even be possible for a publicly owned company like S&W to refuse a major contract? Even if management wanted to, the shareholders would never allow it.
Also, your phone should already be otherwise occupied, recording the interaction. Unless you’re lucky enough to have a secondary recording device.
Many people would not think twice – or even ONCE – before giving their phone to the information-harvesting officer.
THAT HOBBIT AD IS DRIVING ME CRAZY. It might even drive me away.
So where in this list is MENTAL ILLNESS addressed ? Last I checked NONE of the mass killers were described as “normal, family man, hard worker, we never saw it coming”. They ALWAYS have a problem with MENTAL ILLNESS, and family knew it, suspected it, often when confronted say “I knew he’d snap someday”
The root cause is MENTAL ILLNESS. I loaded my gun and set it on the floor yesterday while I watched TV. None of my guns got up on their own and started shooting. It just does not happen. Don’t blame the gun, it is the MENTALLY ILL PERSON !
These lawmakers are dodging the tough questions. Same group who closed all the mental hospitals in California years ago and put them on the street.
Problem is, the female mindset tends to see nothing wrong with carrying a gun in a purse. These people just found out otherwise. A woman’s purse is her fortress. Sadly, it’s not impenetrable.
Police have been extracting data from cell phones for years. The only thing new(ish) is that the tech to extract your data gets better and more ubiquitous every year, not to mention more and more back doors are built into cell phones.
In other words, if they are close enough to bluetooth, your data can be dumped without them eve touching your phone. Here’s a quickie overview….
http://arstechnica.com/tech-policy/2011/04/michigan-state-police-we-only-grab-your-cellphone-data-with-a-warrant/
Still think they need a warrant? Sorry, wrong century….

To be honest, the shooter’s story sounds a little off. {/understatement}
How, exactly, did two men manage to simultaneously stick their heads/arms/etc through his window at the same time? How big is this window?
Did the cops find footprints, disturbed grass, or other evidence of trespassers outside the window?
It is even safer to lock your cell phone closed with a password that only you know. Depending on the situation and state, the police might simply demand or take away your cell phone. If the phone is secured with a password that is an entire higher level of legal approval they would have to get to ask a police technician to by pass your security.
If you are able to create another group of scenarios, have more cameras and have the operators plan their vantage points. It wouldn’t hurt for them to plan their editing as well. You wasted some valuable camera (and therefore training) time.
Nonetheless, thanks for making a great effort!
The real issue here is that the “sequester” does NOT cut anything. All it does is to reduce the growth of spending in the out years.
You need not worry about an illegal gun registry because there’s already an illegal gun registry. What!? Sounds like we should be worried. (NICS is also effectively an illegal registry)
READ PEOPLE … the article said TOWARD the window … not THROUGH it
Socialism politely knocks just before its brother Fascism kicks the door down.
If Joe Biden would have been a Republican, he would have been butchered by the press… the Maindream press just gave him yet another pass. My question is; will an over and under work as well as a side by side? And, does it make any difference if he shell is 2 3/4 or does it have to be a 3 inch mag? And, should males also be always ready to urinate and defecate — night and day — like a female in order to prevent legal rape, in the event that the intruders are female (think gender fairness)? What is scary is not the potential for waking up the neighborhood at all hours of the night with twin barreled firecrackers being exploded out the veranda windows, but the ever present possibility that someone, somewhere might shoot the wrong person, and Dingaling Joe the wannabe Vice President becomes our new leader. One heart beat away…. my God, have mercy on us poor lost sinners, I repent, we all repent… please heal our land and send DC Miscreants back to their homes — .. Joe to Delaware and what’s his name to Kenya.
It sounds as if this last-minute issue is simply a lame excuse to kill the bill for those lawmakers already under pressure from the National Rifle Association.
Do the publishers of the “Paper of Record” realize the the NRA is a coalition of PEOPLE, citizens/constituents, who have just as much a right to the 1st Amendment as they do to the 2nd Amendment. Or is it a case of gun owners not having a right to a voice in the government?
“Dark and nonsensical fantasy”? You must be kidding. Take America’s guns? How about their gold? Is confiscating that a “dark and nonsensical fantasy?
Executive Order 6102 is an Executive Order signed on April 5, 1933, by U.S. President Franklin D. Roosevelt “forbidding the Hoarding of Gold Coin, Gold Bullion, and Gold Certificates within the continental United States”. The order criminalized the possession of monetary gold by any individual, partnership, association or corporation.
The only reason they couldn’t actually go house to house is that they lacked both the funding and a registry of gold holdings. The only prosecution targeted a man with a large holding stored at a NYC bank. Confiscation is a dark possibility, but certainly no fantasy.
“… protecting children with guns was a good idea and that the drop-dead art piece also promotes that point-of-view.”
That’s not a half-bad idea. I might get myself some chalk and make my own contributions to this art project with “trigger words” of my own design. And instead of a “sea of bodies” my scenes would only need one or two body outlines among a “sea of footprints” representing survivors and DGU heroes.
Ha. Robert Farago spelled my name wrong.
Difi needs to FOADifi-nally
Nick that NY map has been updated–click on the original posted yesterday and the new, updated one comes up. Very little white left.
My mother used to doubt every prediction I made about Obama, his regime, and the Democrats since 2007. I have been right on the money at every turn. Being a history buff and one who believes that history repeats itself, I told her from the beginning that this is what happens to a country when it transitions toward totalitarianism. after four years of predicting each step, she believes me now.
This entire AWB argument and the most common gun control measures, are disingenuous from the very beginning. Any argument you make with regards to outlawing so called “assault weapons”, can be made for handguns and concealable firearms. The AWB is nothing more then an attempt to establish precedence for bans, by eliminating firearms that are “scary”, and that are grab headlines; what gun control advocates perceive as “low hanging fruit”. As soon as you can justify the ban on one type of rifle, based on unarguably, ultra rare events, you’ll be able to justify a ban on just about everything else.
I’m still trying to figure out what statement is being made. Robert used the word “remonstrate”, and sadly I don’t understand that word in this context (though I did look up the definition just now).
“parents … especially those who think their kids should be guarded with guns … to see the image of their kids drawn out in chalk … would be powerful”
Soooooo is the idea that guarding kids with guns is a bad idea? Given the word choices and tones in the video, I’m guessing this is their point. Then again, maybe I could have watched the whole thing.
If they really wanted to try everything under the sun to prevent death by projectile except arm themselves, they could at least be encouraging pepper spray, house alarms, ballistic glass/walls in schools, having children wear ballistic vests, smaller classes/schools, and many other things. Even in their imagined best case scenarios, an AWB would only save a few lives (IMHO it would cost a few lives), so why can’t they talk about less controversial, more effective, non-rights taking methods?
Oy gevalt !
The man knew who was in the bedroom. Crooks with weapons. He shot when he felt that they may be coming to the door to invoke deadly force upon him or others in the house, if any. He shot in fear of his life, he opened the door and shot again as they left the room via the window. They still, in his mind, had the deadly weapon. Just my view. Not enough to really make an objective decision on the facts at hand. LEO’s are way to gun shy. They feel that everyone is a bad guy unless proved otherwise. GunPhobia is rampant in the Law Enforcement Community.
On one hand it seems Magpul thinks they’re too cool to have to support civilians. And at the same time they’re trying to thumb their noses at the Colorado politicians with their program to flood the state with standard capacity magazines.
Troubling.
“… It also adversely punishes street cops, local sheriffs and individual military members for the actions of those in power. The last thing we want to do is hurt those who support our cause. …”
What a bunch of assholes. Magpul can bite me.
Well now this new dirty twist that makes one wonder! Graphically speaking as to which side of Obama’s pelvic region (anti gun agenda) Magpul favors. Butt roast, or Brat wurst with sauce and small taters. So Sorry I bought many of their mags.
For a truly riveting big-game hunting experience, world-renowned naturalist and big-game hunter Sir Hammerlock comes highly recommend.
It’s getting pretty disgusting what people are doing these days to get there 5minutes of fame
I guess the (anti) American Dream is slowly starting to fade. SLOWLY. If Cuomo is told by the courts to FOAD, Im sure it will bust a cog or two in the gears of the anti-gun machine.
OMG! Shrouds! OMG!
I think Mrs. DiFi is way beyond hope when it comes to understanding ANYTHING technical about firearms. You’d have better luck teaching a 6 month year old baby the Pythagorean Theorem.
Thanks, everyone!
I’m actually allowed to comment in threads by the TTA*G* management so here I am. 🙂
Over the next month or so, I hope to bring you guys and girls a few solid pieces about the development and politics surrounding the “battle rifle”. And with any luck, our august founder will ship me off to Africa so I can paint my face with the blood of a dead impala and kill a Cape buffalo with a handgun, Ross Seyfried-style, yo.
Randy Drescher, GC,
Please stop that. I’m getting light-headed and weak in the knees.
Buy a shotgun. Buy a shotgun.
If I made whips, I wouldn’t sell them to those who would enslave me… or others.
In Charlotte the Police will not disclose what crimes happen and the Newspaper will not report what does happen.
I keep my carry in arms reach at all times. My favorite rifle is brought out of the safe whenever I get home from work. Like a lost puppy, my defensive tools follow me everywhere except work. I would love to convince a bunch of overpaid liberal PHDs to remove the gun free zone from my workplace.
There was never any civility in the civilian disarmament movement. Civility is a foreign concept to progressive fascists.
There’s no privacy or secrets any more. They know what you’re doing and who you’re doing it with. The sad truth is, it comes down to practicality. They don’t have the resources and manpower to come at us head on. Don’t wave a red flag in their faces and you’ll be ignored, for the most part.
Violent tendencies, urges, rages and impulses are NOT part of PTSD!!!!
What a disgusting, underhanded way to ebb away gun rights!
I’m 200% for the 3D printing of lowers, mags, everything…but I think 2A supporters need to be a bit cautious in rolling this stuff out so publicly during the current debates. All it takes is some junior Senate staffer to take notice and BOOM – its in the next bill specifically.
