University of Texas campus carry slide show (courtesy twitter.com)

“With students potentially carrying weapons after Aug. 1, University of Houston faculty members may want to avoid sensitive subjects or drop certain topics from their curriculum altogether, a forum of professors suggested recently,” Houston’s chron.com reports. “A slide shown at a recent discussion of a new state law, which will allow licensed individuals to carry concealed handguns on campus, says faculty may want to ‘not go there’ to avoid creating a tense situation. This echoes concerns voiced by professors across the state that allowing guns into the classroom will limit academic freedoms and inhibit discussion of sometimes touchy subjects.” Because there couldn’t be any guns in their classroom now? But not as many! Sigh. Any suggestions for which topics the hoplophobic profs should drop?

  1. “Any suggestions for which topics the hoplophobic profs should drop?”

    Gender and women’s studies, FTW!

    And it’s ammophobe — ammophobe.

Remember we are “ammosexuals”, so by contrast that’s makes them…

    You guessed it, ammophobic.

  2. Any suggestions for which topics the hoplophobic profs should drop?

They can start by dropping “white privilege” and move forward from there.

    • It won’t matter.

White people will just find something else to hate themselves over.

Like inventing prostate exams or Celine Dion.

        • A hooker in a naughty doctor costume does not count as a proctologist.
A real doctor does not combine the prostate exam with the hernia exam.

        • “You’re okay with anal penetration, as long as it’s done by a pretty woman?”

It’s called making the best of lousy situation, my friend… 🙂

(Haven’t seen Deadpool yet, but seeing the trailer, I’m gonna like it. Also on the list to see is ‘Suicide Squad’)

        • The real pro tip would be to get the prostate specific antigen test. It’s a blood test no need for fingering your ass unless you’re into that.

        • Not only does mine have really big arthritic knuckles, but I think he must’ve left his Superbowl ring on, too.

  3. On the list of threats to free speech on campus, gun owners rank alongside the internet. That is to say, we enable free speech on campuses.

If you want proof, just look at all the whiny SJW type parents who won’t send their whiny SJW type children to certain schools. Those certain schools will then be free of SJW types who want to clamp down on free speech.

  4. I thought that was going to be a warning to professors and students about microagressions, insensitivities, and – worst of all – free speech.

I hear talk of “safe spaces” on campuses. I’m pretty sure it’s very different than my idea of a safe space.

  5. “Any suggestions for which topics the hoplophobic profs should drop?”

The word “triggering” might “trigger” them to be afraid of triggers.

  6. I predict some profs will go the other direction and make attempts to deliberately provoke responses from those carrying guns.

Why do I think this? Simply because there are a certain number of idiots in the general population who already attempt to provoke those peacefully carrying firearms. I’ve read similar attitudes from some of these profs, as reported here. So, I predict a non-zero overlap between the two populations.

  7. Good. Let them work themselves into unfounded tizzies and live in unfounded fear. Let them trap themselves in a self-imposed fog of anciety. I have no problem with these asshats creating and mongering their own fear. I will offer one thing: I will happily dig holes in the sand for them, so that they may have a safe and convenient place to bury their heads.

    • But these asshats aren’t really afraid. It’s all an act to further a political agenda.

If they were really as frightened and terrorized as they claim to be, wouldn’t they look for another job, in a private, “gun-free” university? I have yet to hear of a single professor resigning from their cushy tenured state-school job over campus carry. Isn’t your life worth more than a job?

I’m still not clear on how concealed firearms that nobody knows are there are going to affect free speech in the classroom. It’s not like there’s going to be a student twirling a single-action Ruger down in the front row with his feet up on the desk.

  8. It’s time to use the Left’s PC derp against them, with both barrels (so to speak).

Look them dead in the eye and tell them: “Consider this an excellent opportunity for you to work on your tolerance and coping skills.”

    Then snicker at them…

  9. When I was an adjunct at satellite campus of Penn State, the majority of the kids in my class were too young to carry. I think this is much ado about nothing. Besides, I always carry, regardless.

    • This is a major concern of mine. Since no one under 21 can carry anyway, does this mean that students that are over 21 can expect to receive a substandard education due to the fact that they MIGHT be carrying concealed? That sounds like the basis of a civil rights lawsuit to me….

  10. Wow, they don’t seem to think much of their carefully selected n cultivated students n colleagues. So, how often do they have people melting down over these risky provocations now?

I’m trying to understand their reasoning.

With carry permitted, the folks going crazy will now be armed? (Because folks prone to the crazy wouldn’t carry because of the rule.)

More crazies will come to class, because carriers are nuts?

The guns will *make* people behave crazy. Or leap up n shoot people on their own, provoked, one assumes, by the discussion? (I hate wben my inanimate objects acquire thiught and start taking offense.)

Really, either tbe presence of guns makes people go nuts in class more, or they already have a crazy-go-nuts in class problem, which makes.focusing on guns a distraction.

  11. The paranoia among the teaching staff is more than obvious and far exceeds the levels found in the general population. Could it be because these “teachers” know how little value they represent, especially compared to how much is being paid for their “services” and are genuinely afraid to be held accountable for the racket that they have created?

  12. If you are saying something that you think might make someone want to kill you, perhaps you SHOULD reconsider.

And if you think that anyone who disagrees with you wants you dead, I think you’re projecting, liberals…

  13. They’re projecting the way they would respond onto the folks who would carry. Since they’re so easily provoked, they just assume the rest of us are.

    • People inherently feel threatened when they understand, often subconsciously, that they are worthless. You can see this effect among many government employees who know that they can be, and should be, replaced with a rubber stamp and their entire existence depends on their bosses’ empire building skills. Much the same with many “professors” who have never had a real job in their lifetime, but take it upon themselves to instruct others in what they would not do themselves. There’s got to be an incurable feeling of emptiness and waste that they represent, so, naturally, they are afraid.

  14. A dash of ignorance!
    A pinch of fear!
    Leftist claptrap we create here!

They would sound Shakespearean if they weren’t so damn stupid!

  15. Given the opportunity, I suggest that a Texas college student ask one of these ninnies if he or she has had a football player in class. If the answer is “Yes”, ask if he or she was afraid of that student. Then, point out that (1) the football player has the size and strength to beat them to death without using any kind of weapon and (2) people with concealed carry permits are better behaved than the general public (by a factor of ten) while football players are worse behaved. Finish by suggesting that they could benefit from the presence of an armed student to protect them from the football player.

  16. Just thinking out loud, but can someone remind the Faculty if they are so concerned about guns, guess what? You can carry one too.

  17. Let me ask the cowardly professors this – have you ever had a student without a gun attack you or another student in class? Have they stabbed someone with a knife or pen? Have they punched or kicked anyone? Used any heavy objects to beat someone? The answer to all of these is “no” for almost every professor on the planet – so why would you think that simply being near a gun would suddenly make them violent?

Sounds like some PhDs are in need of revoking, because these people clearly don’t know how to use facts to draw conclusions.

    • +1,000. It’s funny how these profs freak out over potentially being shot by a student, but only now that campus carry is legalized. Because no student would have dared to even consider doing so when it wasn’t, right? smh. I have yet to experience the “one ring” effect these loons believe the mere presence of a firearm imparts on people; willing them to commit all manner of heinous crimes and so on. Talk about projection.

  18. Proof that you don’t need to be intelligent to have a PHD. No person who respects the law enough to get a concealed carry license is going to pull out a gun and shoot people because they said something that made them angry. Can anyone imagine such a scenario where this could reasonably occur? I would like to ask one of these professors to describe in detail, how they think such a scenario could reasonably play out.

    1. They say something that makes a student angry and… what? They pull out a gun in front of the entire class? Because they’re that mentally unstable that they don’t care if they have a class full of witnesses? The professor said something about religion! INFIDEL! MURDER! *Bang* *Bang* life sentence.

    2. They say something in class that makes a licensed concealed carrier angry. The person resolves to kill them, but probably isn’t going to just pull a gun out in the middle of class and shoot them in front of all the witnesses. This is premeditated murder and such a person would kill them whether they were allowed to carry in class or not.

Are these possible? Yeah. Anything is possible in the real world. It’s possible that I could cut a piece of flesh out of my arm and cook it for lunch tonight. Are they likely? No. And do they think either of those people are the type of people who get concealed carry licenses? Statistics wouldn’t agree.

  19. This is a real embarassment. I apologize on behalf of Houston.

I wonder how these hysterical professors would react upon learning that there are some 300 colleges and universities in the U.S. that offer competitive shooting sports activities, sponsored by the NRA, ACUI, and even the NCAA? (Including the University of Texas – Austin.) Some schools offer scholarships in this field. I’m sure all schools accept shooting organization scholarships from outside sources, including U of H.

There are already guns on campus, folks, and nobody’s been shot over a controversial class lecture. Time to grow up.

Besides, if someone did open fire on campus, wouldn’t you want an armed student right there to stand up and stop the threat? Or would you prefer to call the campus security? OK, but to stop a bad guy with a gun, it takes more than a good guy with a Huffy and bike shorts.

  20. Went to the Hebrew university of Jerusalem about 15 years ago. Probably a third of the student body carried for this reason or another. Never heard of a liberal professor holding back due to that or any other reason. Nobody got shot . Just a panic spreading manuever and an agitation tool.

  21. Intellectual Elite? Giants of the mind?

Using incisive logic, fact based hypotheses, undeterred by the bigotry of small minds; fiercely confronting prejudice and intolerance and joyfully expanding the boundaries of the human experience, knowledge, personal responsibility and freedom.

Obviously I’m talking about people on web sites such as this; the “bastions of higher learning” were once such places, now they are places of indoctrination, intolerance, bigotry, delusion and irrational fear.

  22. Talk about the subtle bigotry of low expectations: They don’t think that they can trust college students to be armed and have a spirited discussion without shooting someone.

  23. Which topics should they drop? All of them. Drop it all and get the hell out.

If you’re a teacher and you can’t handle the idea of adult-aged students exercising their constitutionally guaranteed civil rights, you’re welcome to pack up and peddle your pedantry someplace where your “ideas” will find a natural home. I suggest a socialist paradise like China or North Korea, or maybe the peaceful, enlightened, social-justice oriented post-apartheid state of South Africa.

Most college faculty aren’t hysterical nincompoops, but unfortunately the dumbest and least stable are almost always the loudest.

  24. I actually had one of progressive friends post that on FB. I have Jackass Whisperers Syndrome, and I and constantly trying to educate idiots. In response, I posted,

“All of them”? Another complete lie. Only License to Carry holders can carry, and then only concealed. That’s less than 2.5% of the Texas population and less than .5% of the student population. DPS statistics show that LTC holders are the most law abiding citizens of the State – less than 1% (0.2341% in 2014) of total convictions. And not one LTC holder has ever committed a sudden passion murder that this article seems to be so concerned about.

    • I’m starting to think we’ve been lied to.

I tool up every day expecting to participate in one of those parking-lot gun battles so many people assured me would happen, but so far, nothing. Not a single, solitary gunshot, let alone the OK Corral scenario I was looking forward to.

Where are my rivers of blood? I was promised a river!

  25. You know, if we, people of the gun, were even half as violent as they insinuate……. there would be no anti gunners left. The fear and fear mongering is staggering from that side. I carried in Alaska while in school. Had plenty of heated arguments with professors. I can honestly say, not a single time did the idea of using my weapon ever even enter into my mind. Heck, some of them were even carrying, this was 16-20 year ago though.

On another point, I cannot believe there are people that work so hard to try and guarantee the removal of their own rights. Unbelievable.

  26. Sorry profs, but when colleges/universities push 30+ years of institutionalized correction, ridicule, and hostility towards any student who doesn’t fit the ideal left-wing mold or whose ancestral heritage lies within the boundaries of western Europe, you’re eventually gonna see some backlash. That doesn’t mean you deserve to be harmed by an angry student, but perhaps if freedom of speech were both valued and exercised on the American campus instead of the PC trigger-warning safe space garbage that shoves ideological “undesirables” into corners and beats them, you wouldn’t feel so threatened. You reap what you damn sow.

  27. I can only see three ways to process the attitudes and words of those professors:
    (1) They are highly unstable themselves and won’t hesitate to commit aggravated assault on someone who speaks a wrong word. Thus they assume that everyone else will do the same. (a.k.a. projection)
    (2) They are stable and make baseless claims that armed students won’t hesitate to commit aggravated assault on someone who speaks a wrong word. (a.k.a. dumb-asses)
    (3) They are stable and know that armed students will most certainly NOT commit aggravated assault on someone who speaks a wrong word. Rather, they despise armed students and use any conceivable approach to berate armed students into compliance with the almighty professors. (a.k.a. intolerant elitists)

Which of those 3, uh, shall we say unflattering descriptions is it?

    • I’d say number 4: They’re trying their damndest to out-Progressive each other, seeing it as a competitive sport with serious consequences in their twisted social ranking…

      • Goeff PR,

Wouldn’t your category number (4) simply fall under what I described as category number (2) a.k.a. dumb-asses?

        • Not really.

What I’m trying to convey is that their reactions are a type of ‘posturing’ or ‘displaying’, meant to be seen by their (rather un) social peers.

They’re putting some real effort in it with the expectation of peer affirmation.

Dumbass is gonna dumbass, what they’re doing is a deliberate strategy.

EDIT – Upon review of your earlier comment, yeah, possibly #2…

        • You may be correct in that assessment. Trying to show loyalty to the Party has been a common feature in the courts of Lenin, Stalin, Hitler, Mao, Obama.

  28. I agree with the sentiment here that worry and backlash are foolish.

However, can you please drop the use of the word retard in this negative context? This isn’t just about political correctness, it’s about respecting people with disabilities.

  29. “The Sky is Falling” panicky rants from unhinged faculty at UH, UT, and other public universities in Texas will very quickly fade as much ado about nothing just like the predicted mass slaughter in the streets that never materialized after concealed carry became Texas law over two decades ago.

It’s hilarious in a pathetic sort of way the number of professors who apparently feel so threatened and constrained at the very thought of guns in their classrooms that they’re overcome by fear to the point they might actually refrain from their normal giant asshole, huge dick, or mean bitch from hell comfort zone they operated freely in before campus carry. Instead they’re forced to confront daily the fear of summary execution at the hands of a crazed gun toting student just itching for an excuse to trade college life for hard time or death row.

While funny, such irrational fear and paranoia illustrates a total disconnect from reality that consumes many in academia.

  30. Most hoplophobic thing I have ever read. Bar none.

That, or, before Texas campus carry was passed they argued it would cause the exchange of ideas in classrooms to stop and now they are causing precisely that to happen with a memo just to make a (false) point.

Looks like the “educated” adult version of a temper tantrum to me.

  31. This is the academic version of a “hissy fit”.

It is obvious to everyone except these self-centered babies that they’ve taught in the presence of benevolently-carried firearms their whole careers and there hasn’t been any issue related to the things on this “woe-is-me” slide. There is no more threat to them now than there was before, the change in legislation just gave them the occasion to consider for the first time that they are occasionally teaching in the presence of armed adults.

When you are the center of your own universe things become “new” and “real” the first time you consider them, regardless of how common in the past.

    Translation:
“Boo hoo, this affects our academic integrity and our ability to think controversial thoughts and engage in spirited debate”.

If they were worried about academic integrity then they should be re-evaluating their crippling and boundless sensitivity to sensitivity. Infinite coddling of infantilized students, trigger warnings, safe spaces. Doing everything possible to make sure that when a student leaves college they are weaker than when they showed up, less prepared for the real world, less able to keep their shit together in the face of real adversity. They’ve surpassed MKUltra in their ability to weaken a person’s composition by destroying their psychology and self awareness.

  32. Isn’t there a statistic somewhere that says licensed ccw holders are more law abiding than average population? So assuming you get more ccwers, profs should be less afraid, not more.

    • You are kidding. right? In case you’re not, a large portion of “professors” are socialists/progressives because only socialists/progressives can get into that club. They are essentially teenagers in terms of mentality and responsibility. They are incapable of logic.

  33. “Any suggestions for which topics the hoplophobic profs should drop?”
    Yes, of course.
    My “trigger words” are

    Gun Registration.
    gun Control.
    Gun Confiscation.

  34. These people truly do not understand lawful carry. I think they cannot differentiate between good and evil actions. They certainly cannot comprehend that this is not a crime.

  35. Oh, so this is why police officers are shooting so many suspects now. ‘Trigger words’.
I’ve been telling people for decades, if you want to invest in your future, skip college and build an armory. You’ll learn far more than the idiocy of theory being pushed these days…
