Gun control is a fact of life in the former land of hope and glory. They lost their right to own a gun ages ago, traded it for almost ubiquitous surveillance and the warm comfort of the security state. The UK has become a continuous race to the bottom in terms of gun control legislation. It’s like looking into the future of America, if Michael Bloomberg and Vivek Murthy get their way. Recently there was a news report about a game keeper in the UK committing suicide, and while most people commented on the tragedy of the situation, there was one UK politician who celebrated the unfortunate event, and even went so far as to proclaim that in his opinion all gun owners should follow suit and kill themselves. No, really.

From the Daily Mail:

An anti-bloodsport campaigner and councillor has provoked fury by claiming that the suicide of a former soldier and game hunter was the ‘best use of a gun I can think of’.

Thomas Woodward is facing calls to quit over the ‘outrageous’ remarks, which were posted on the Hunt Saboteurs Association’s Facebook page.

The 48-year-old – a Liberal councillor on Ryedale District and Pickering Town councils in North Yorkshire – made the comments after reading reports about the death of Allan Ellis.

Mr Ellis, 50, a former Scots Guard from Bacup, Lancashire, shot himself in August after learning he was to be sued over a £40,000 debt. Mr Woodward wrote: ‘We would all rather live in a world where no one kills for fun. However, if you choose to own a gun and kill for pleasure, then it’s best you kill yourself.’

[…]

‘I don’t agree with guns,’ he said. ‘People buy guns to kill things. If someone is going to buy a gun then the best reason for doing so is to kill themselves.

‘I disagree with killing anything. If disagreement with killing things means I upset shooting enthusiasts, then so be it.’

The current game plan of gun control activists in the United States isn’t to ban guns through legislation — instead, their strategy is to make guns socially unacceptable. It’s the reason why they’re going after retail stores to bully convince them to ban guns. It’s why they harp on “concealed carry killers,” and make every effort to brand gun owners as redneck idiots and racists. They don’t need to win the battle in the legislature if they can win the culture war by ostracizing gun owners in their communities.

What we see in Woodward’s rant is the final result of that cultural conditioning: no compassion whatsoever. The blind belief that all gun owners are murderous maniacs and idiots. And since they are all murderers, their lives don’t matter. They would all be better off dead. Its a pretty short hop from “these gun owners should kill themselves” to “lets help them kill themselves” to “how about you jump into that cattle car?” I don’t believe that we should be killing people or wishing them harm based on their political beliefs. I guess Mr. Woodward doesn’t agree.

  1. I’m not surprised at the liberal politician’s remarks. Anti-gunners are, by and large, a pretty damn violent lot. Poster boys for projection, every damn one of them. I glad they don’t have guns.

  2. This is what happens when people mistake Bambi for a nature documentary. They value feral beasts more than precious human life. Stay classy Thomas Woodward!

  3. And attitudes like that are exactly why it does not matter how we act…the hatred runs that deep, is pure emotion and cannot be swayed by any logic or exculpatory evidence on the part of gun owners.

    • To *this* guy it doesn’t matter, but thankfully he is a minority. There are fare more moderates than loons. THOSE are who we are fighting for.

  4. Should Mr. Ellis be visited by a home invasion and a loved on get killed because he was not armed and ready to defend himself and his loved ones in his own home, one must wonder if he would hold fast to his opinion???

People who believe in the utopia that Mr. Ellis believes in, should surround themselves with candy and NUTS. Mostly Nuts!

    • Yes he would, wether as a true believer or as a hypocrite like Watts he would stay the course. I have talked to these people. That line of questioning leads to statements like “the guy would be caught and punished for my death and that’s worth it if it means having a safer world”. Or “my wife’s/child’s life is not worth more than the attackers, killing him would be just as wrong”.

  5. Thomas Woodward: “‘I disagree with killing anything. “

    Except, you know…gun owners.

Illogic aside, there is Progressive mindset on parade: we are not human, we are not even “things” to them.

    Reprehensible.

    • I wonder, does he ever eat beef, fish-n-chips, or chicken?
      .
When little Tommy grows up, and understands the life of the omnivore human species, perhaps he’ll understand.
      .
Until then, I suggest that we all just have a laugh and ignore him.
      .

    • “Thomas Woodward: “‘I disagree with killing anything. “

      Except, you know…gun owners.”

JR, we’ve *WON* the culture war…

Rap / Hip-Hop music glorifies the ‘gat’.

Hollywood / Broadcast / Cable / Satellite glorifies the gun. The *cool* actors use guns.

The plots show guns being used for good far outweigh the use for evil.

First Person Shooter / Video Games – The gun is a tool to do a job / reach a goal.

The current administration – President – No one has done more in recent history to encourage mistrust / fear than the Progressives and their ilk.

Viewership in mass media broadcast journalism continues to collapse.

A Libertarian movement has taken hold with the youth of today.

SCOTUS has ruled twice guns are a right to own and use in our homes.

Some form of carry is legal in all 50 states.

All in all, we’re in really good shape! Not perfect, but damn good.

  6. If this is how anti-gunners think and act, I’d much rather them stay employed. A few remarks like this later, I think more and more people would begin to see that these people aren’t what they expect them to be. A lot of million mom marchers and the lot look to these people as a voice of logic and peace, but they would slowly begin to see that these people are the exact opposite: @ssholes that don’t care about human life, they’re just milking heart strings to gain power.

    • No offense but Welcome to the party and late is better then never based on the disbelief in your comment. All of the residents that espouse anti-gun beliefs have this attitude towards gunowners and have no moral qualms to voice death upon our families. Go to any liberal website comment section and you would be amazed at the open death threats and lack of independent cognitive abilities but they still vote our rights away. Bonus part is that in some of the rants you actually read the point where their medication wore off.

  7. Before one group can commit mass murder against another; they need to first dehumanize that group.

Just as those that support the mass murder of the unborn by calling “it” a fetus instead of a baby ; the anti-freedom crowd have so dehumanized gun owners that many would cheer at the mass murder of the POTG.

Of course; this just envigorates the defense of my right to KABA

  8. This elitist, arrogant, Brit is why “We” initiated the “Shot Heard Around The World”, and kicked them out of this country. Than saved their a@@ for not one but two World Wars. The everyday folks of England are not the resilient folks they once were. They elect these clowns. The most popular name for baby boys in England now is Mohammed. Fancy that, can I get some mutton and fish & chips with a Guiness now?

One day, V for Vendetta (centered in Jolly ol’ England) will not just be a movie. Guy Fawkes knew it centuries ago when he attempted to blow up Parliment.

  9. For someone so concerned with peace, that’s quite the wish for genocide.

It’s okay if you think you’re right though, right?

  10. I totally agree, at least as far as the UK is concerned. Since the only entity allowed to own guns in the UK is the government, everyone in the government should commit suicide (especially the politicians). It would set the cause of individual liberty ahead by at least a century in that country.

    • Untrue statement is untrue, but I do wonder if that sentiment applies to the armed government agents from police to soldiers?

      • Which part of my statement do you think is untrue? The statement that only the government is allowed to own guns in the UK (which is almost totally true) or the part where if every politician in the UK committed suicide it would set the cause of individual liberty ahead by a century (totally true)?

        • Probably this: “Since the only entity allowed to own guns in the UK is the government”

Individuals can own firearms, but are under heavy restrictions.

        • Well the part you said was “almost true” speaks for its self. Obviously gov cronies are ‘not’ tho only people with guns. In fact I would bet that legal civilian gun owners out number state armed agents even in the UK. It’s just a point of fact, not a justification or anything. As to your other point… No I don’t honestly think the sudden removal of all armed government types would improve civil rights one bit in the UK. If recent history has taught me anything it’s that you can’t give people freedom. The same people who voted for the phony security blanket are not the type to revel in the light. They will quickly re-establish the status quo and probably vote away another slew of rights and privileges.

        • Bureaucracies are not born overnight. Laws and institutions are created one by one. Some were a bad idea in the first place. Others outlive their usefulness. If you wipe the slate clean and leave it up to the voters to reenact laws and rebuild the bureaucracies it would take a century to replace them all. Unfortunately when the slate is wiped clean it is usually because a dictator has just overthrown the existing government and new laws and institutions are created on a whim. But politicians are always judged by what they get done and it doesn’t matter much if anything needed to be done or even if things need to be undone.

    • I believe the British Royal Family, including the Queen, own quite a few “sporting” guns. Apparently, Woodward is calling for the suicide of the members of the royal family. Isn’t this “lese-majesty” defined as “the crime of violating majesty, an offence against the dignity of a reigning sovereign or against a state.”

      Off with his head!

  11. Or better yet, in response to the article anti-gunners say that pro gun folks should shoot themselves, all gun owners should pic an anti gun voter or politician and shoot them. If we all do it the same day, there wont be enough of em left to prosecute us. Do it for the children!

Anti-gunners are murderers of children by proxy, by the laws they have enacted and politicians they support. They are the guilty ones!

  12. Well if he doesn’t want to kill anything he should just kill himself because his mere existence kills things. Not just for food, but all the micro organisms his body kills daily, and when he cleans himself or his house. Just sitting there breathing even if he doesn’t eat, he’s killing millions of poor innocent microrganisms per second. That sick monster.

    • I wish I had submitted this with the audio when it happened but a local radio show with two very anti gun hosts had a news clip about a road rage incident where the aggressor pulled a gun and the other man pulled his in response. You can predict the commentary right up til one host stated that he didn’t feel safe acting aggressively towards people because they might be armed. The news guy who hunts and owns guns says ” so people being armed makes you behave better?” There was ofcourse stammering sputtering denials before he dropped the subject but it was one of the most sublime moments of radio in history.

  13. my 2 daughters are both against guns and when faced with danger always ask do you have your gun and when I say yes they say good

  14. Clearly monsters live among us and wear our skin.

People like this are how genocide can happen.

This person should be in a mental institution, heavily sedated.

  15. Misguided guy says>”‘I disagree with killing anything. If disagreement with killing things means I upset shooting enthusiasts, then so be it.”

I hope he is a vegan. After all, he is “killing something” when he eats his steak dinner…

    • Even plants are alive. Killing things and not killing things is not a difference between meat eaters and vegans.

It bothers me, the number of people who don’t understand their own beliefs and think themselves superior for a reason that does not even distinguish them from those the despise. If he doesn’t like killing things, then he is what he hates.

      • Yes I know that plants are alive. When I mentioned this to someone I know, they told me “Yes, but not in the same way. A plant does not have a face”.

Granted that even vegetarians thrive upon death, I just have to feel that killing a plant is not the same as killing an animal. I recognize that others may disagree, but to me it seems pretty obvious…

        • You should look around for a copy of a book written in the late 1960’s entitled “The Secret Life of Plants”. It documented research done that demonstrated Plants have some sort of consciousness and measurably react to abuse and positive stimulation. Then throw that in the face of your friend who says they’re okay to eat because they don’t “have a face” Might be amusing.

        • @ Garibaldi – Not criticizing you with my suggestion about the Plant book, but I have lent a copy to Vegans who subscribe to the “won’t eat anything with a face” meme and the results were pretty funny. Hannibal is right, though, the “Science” for that book was dubious.

    • My wife caught a few moments of the outdoor channel yesterday with some folks standing with their kills. She yelled murder! Every time a dead buck was out on screen. This was about a minute after finishing off a Culvers double mushroom Swiss burger. Now she was obviously playing it up a bit but I know she has internal conflicts concerning her love of animals and her lace of animal bits. I wish I could help her see that it is not remotely contradictory. That hunters tend to be animal lovers and that forcing ones self out of the natural world as a vegan IS contradictory.

  16. So its ok for him to say this, for the most part, but what if someone turned this around and said it against him? “If someone buys a gun then the best use is to kill random politicians of country ______.”

  17. Besides the blatant hypocrisy he has moved past vegan into an even deeper state of denial by claiming he disagrees with killing anything. Disagrees to the point that taking ones own life is better than killing anything. As has been previously noted just existing causes death on a massive scale at the microscopic level and plants are living things. There is nothing he is eating or using for that matter that did not involve more death at some point while getting to him or during its use, even if it wasn’t causing the death of Bambi. Even for pro-victim gun-grabbers this is pretty far up the crazy scale. At least a vegan can pretend they only kill plants.

  18. “. . .The current game plan of gun control activists in the United States isn’t to ban guns through legislation — instead, their strategy is to make guns socially unacceptable. . .”

And in this they are fortunately losing—big time. Granted gun-controllers can gain a measure of success among urban dwelling cosmopolites concentrated in the mega-cities but their mistake, borne out by the rather stunning recent defeats at gun-control legislation and the corresponding massive arming of middle-class citizens, is their assumption that the opinions of coastal elites really matter out here in flyover country. It comes as no great surprise to me that they don’t. In order for gun-control to win the American body politic has to embrace gun-control ideologies that run counter to our traditions. And that ain’t happening. One of life’s more satisfying moments is experiencing the look of absolute shock on the face of a newly arrived refugee from LA when they suddenly realize that several of the Texans they’re talking to are carrying concealed handguns.

  19. You are not kidding about their ideology being one step away from cattle cars. Being a history buff, I spent some time reading about the lead up to WWII. The Progressives and fascists of the 1930’s are scarily similar.

  20. Every time I read one of these stories, I find it exponentially more difficult to believe the English people ever had an empire, and after losing most of it, told the Third Reich to go p!ss up a rope. The fact that such an accomplished nation produces nitwits like this today is a shame. I really feel for the few patriotic Brits left in that shell of a country, watching as their own history is blasphemed and riotous, third-world immigrants are apologized to. This just goes to show, a vote for a party which champions political correctness and social justice is a vote for cultural suicide.

    • The British were ruined by World War II much like the French were Ruined by World War I. They lost generations of young men.

When you take so many in a nation and throw them through a meat grinder of a war you are left with whomever was too weak or unwilling to fight outnumbering those who won the victory.

  21. So, if it is “not okay” to kill anything, then how is it “okay” to kill yourself? Lunatic logic from a lunatic. Hope he takes a hard fall from his constituency into the oblivion he deserves…oh, and definitely publish his address.

  22. What has this Thomas Woodward fellow done in life? Was he a soldier? What has been his contribution to his country that he can dismiss other’s lives so easily?

  23. I couldn’t agree more.

The current British regime (owner of a great many guns) should immediately fall on its, er, bayonet.
