Another week, another series of thunderous applause for civil rights restrictions.
New Zealand Still Has a Parliamentary System
As New Zealand sprints toward imposing the deluge of restrictions we’ve mentioned in the preceding weeks, American media outlets are still obsessed with the fact that other systems of government are able to act on divisive issues faster than America’s. On Wednesday, the NZ parliament voted 119 to 1 in favor of the ban on “military style semi automatics.” Once the bill heads to the country’s governor-general for “royal assent,” it could come into force as soon as today (Friday).
Parliament observed demonstrations from police, obsessing over such modern marvels as taping together magazines. As the country works out exactly how it expects to collect the host of now-prohibited firearms, it is telling owners to “resist the urge” to shoot them before saying goodbye, as virtually all of the arms remain in private hands (and likely will continue to do so long into the future). The law includes a provision for “bona fide collectors” to apply for an endorsement to keep a prohibited firearm if it is an “heirloom or memento,” (a function part of the firearm has to be kept at another address) but makes no provisions for sport shooters.
Delaware Dems Seek Assault Weapon Ban
Delaware democrats have filed three bills, mostly different flavors of the typical copy-paste of the 1994 Assault Weapons Ban. On Wednesday, an event celebrating the introduction of the bills hosted by Moms Demand Action was swarmed by hundreds of gun rights activists. Last year a 17-round magazine ban was tried, and failed. A new bill sponsored by House Majority Whip John Mitchell tries that again, but this time at 15. Because whatever. Another law would require gun buyers to get a “purchaser card” and take a training course before buying a firearm. This comes weeks after a “safe storage” bill narrowly passed the Delaware house.
Pittsburgh Breaks the Rules
Last week we discussed Pittsburgh’s new gun bans. It didn’t take long for the laws to be challenged. Gun rights groups sued Tuesday to enjoin Pittsburgh from enforcing its illegal firearms laws. The suit is backed by the NRA, and should be a pretty easy victory. Then again, conventions on the rule of law tend to be suspended whenever guns are on the table, so we’ll see.
Pennsylvania’s Red Flag Law Takes Effect
PA’s red flag law, the first gun law passed in the woodsy state in 14 years, took effect on Wednesday as PA lawmakers continue to debate the finer points of the bill.
Why would a gun owner think obeying a gun law passed by a mayor and city council is any more of a moral issue, when the law was passed to circumvent the legal restrictions of the state of Pennsylvania.
The common thread in all these is the will of the Left to impose infringement of a civil right,perhaps it’s time to contemplate the reason the founders gifted US with the second amendment in the first place,impose back.
With all this anti-gun hoopla it makes me think of Adolph Hitler when he said, in 1939, “The easiest way to conquer a nation is to first disarm its citizens”. Think about that.
I believe that the Third Reich achieved complete Gun Registration by 1935. This was the first step to the disarming of the population a short time later.
There were stricter gun control laws before the Nazis took over full control of Germany. The whole “Nazi confiscation” story is false.
It doesn’t take a genius to see that “gun violence” is in the brain. Didn’t all farmers & ranchers and a lot of store owners have guns years ago? There were no mass shootings from these people. The big shooters were Bonnie & Clyde and Al Capone. I’m sure I could put a machine gun or bazooka or flame thrower in your hand and you wouldn’t kill me with it.
New Zealand holds a general election every three years or sooner if the government chooses. The last one was in 2017. Jacinda and her supporters must face the people next year at the latest. Then, we will see what the citizens think about her gun ban. My personal suspicion is that it won’t hurt her prospects for reelection.
Hopefully there’s a silent majority over there that wants to keep access to guns legal.
Little chance of that. New Zealanders are historically subjects of the Queen and quite happy to be ruled by others. The place will be a province of China by mid century.

He said that everybody there was in support of at least some additional restrictions hours after the Mosque attack, and the support only grew stronger with time. Anybody advocating freedom was loudly shouted down by EVERYBODY there. And that was on a gun enthusiasts’ forum. Can you imagine what the popular opinion among the non gunowning majority is like?
What FedUp related doesn’t surprise me. The attitude toward the use of force in self defense is very different in the UK and its former possessions than in the US. It would have been worth providing this link (https://www.cnn.com/2012/01/04/justice/oklahoma-intruder-shooting/index.html) to the NZ forum to show the difference between their priorities and those of most Americans.
I’ve had that discussion a number of times online. It’s amazing the lack of interest in self defense these people have. “Oh, soneone is raping dear ol’ mum? Well, that’s better than taking his life.”
The cops now own security for people in NZ. Not a comforting thought.
Did they know the mosque was a known Jihadi recruiting center or has the regime censored that successfully?

Pittsburgh’s mayor is a pompous ass and the people who don’t like our form of government can frigging move. I’m sure New Zealand could use a few more people. The mayor had more people demonstrating against him than for him. I live in PA.

Eventually the communist democrats of Delaware will get their gun bans using Wilmington as an excuse.
