It’s the little things that trim them up . . . Shell casings, cell phone led police to suspected serial killer

The crack in the case occurred when the 24-year-old brought his legally purchased, loaded pistol in a bag to his job at a McDonald’s and asked a co-worker to hold it — but a manager instead handed it over to a cop, setting off probe that linked Donaldson to the semiautomatic handgun used in the crimes.

Donaldson was charged with four counts of first-degree murder following his arrest Tuesday, Dugan said.

“He was friendly and nice to the cops, but he didn’t give us anything, tell us why he was doing it or anything like that,” Dugan said. “He admitted that he owned the gun but he didn’t admit to the killings.”

Because no one wants a loose can . . . Keeping Suppressors Tight

Nearly every time we show someone one of our suppressors at a demo, we’re asked about direct-thread cans working their way loose. We usually respond by handing that person a full-auto rifle and a couple mags, and challenging them to loosen the suppressor by shooting it. Obviously, this slightly smart-ass (but really fun) response doesn’t work over the internet, so let us explain a bit more.

Why?

It’s easy to assume that direct-thread suppressors work their way loose as a result of vibration during the firing process, but the real problem has just as much if not more to do with heat expansion. Suppressors heat up very quickly with any kind of sustained fire—much faster than the barrel it’s attached to. Because the suppressor is on the outside of the barrel, when it heats up, it loosens as well.

The SIG P320 drops into service with the U.S. military. So to speak . . . U.S. Army Field SIG SAUER M17/M18 Pistols with 101st Airborne Division

Today the 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) became the first unit to field the U.S. Army’s new M17 and M18 Modular Handgun System. The 1st Brigade Combat Team, 101st ABN DIV (AASLT) began fielding the new handguns today at Fort Campbell, Kentucky under the command of Col. Derek K. Thomson.

“What a great day,” said Thomson. “To witness modernization firsthand as my soldiers became the first in the Army and this storied division to fire the new pistol is an absolute honor.”

The MHS handgun is a variant of the SIG SAUER P320 pistol and is equipped with an external safety, an integrated MIL-STD-1913 Picatinny rail for the attachment of light and laser systems, self-illuminating night sights to maintain combat effectiveness in all lighting conditions, and is capable of accepting a sound suppressor.

Is all publicity good publicity? I have a feeling TrippyDo’s gonna find out . . . Rapper’s photo with police cruiser, guns puts Monroeville police on alert

A rapper calling himself TrippyDoo posted a photo on his Facebook page Tuesday holding guns and kneeling next to a Monroeville Police Department cruiser with a crude caption: “(Expletive) the cops.”

The image and wording of the post now has the attention of Monroeville police.

“It’s my God-given right to have a firearm,” said the rapper, whose real name is Brennan Brooks. “Whether it’s with the cop car, that is my right, too. Right on the side of the road.”

I don’t know about you, but I’m scared sh*tless! And I’m thousands of miles from the U.K. . . . This frightening pile of guns has been handed into police

More than a hundred guns have been surrendered to Humberside Police as part of a two-week amnesty . . .

During the fortnight-long amnesty, 119 guns and dozens of knives were handed in from around the region.

Temporary Detective Superintendent Joanne Roe, of Humberside Police, said: “I am very pleased with the amount of weapons and ammunition that has been handed in across the whole of the Humberside area.

“Taking these unlicensed weapons off the street avoids the risk of them becoming involved in criminality making our communities safer for everyone.”

Trinidad and Tobago aren’t the most gun rights-friendly of places;“The Commissioner of Police can also revoke a permit if he is satisfied that the holder is of intemperate habits or unsound mind, or otherwise unfit to be entrusted with a gun.” Some folks have begun to notice . . . Pundits call for guns

Expressing their anguish over the murder of one of their religious leaders, pundits are calling for guns to protect themselves from criminal elements.

“Give us licenced guns,” said Pundit Amar Seepersad. “Now is time for us to stand up and defend ourselves and we have to do it now.”

Seepersad was one of 20 pundits who spoke at the funeral for Pundit Sunil Ragbirsingh who was shot and killed at his Arouca home on Saturday night. The funeral was held at Calcutta Road #2 in Freeport yesterday morning. Many of the pundits told mourners they felt angry and hurt.

“If the State cannot get rid of the guns from the criminals, then give a licensed gun to each one of us to protect ourselves,” Seepersad said. He told pundits they were not sheep, but lions among men.

“Look at what is happening to us, we have forgotten our nation and we are very docile and calm. Yes, continue to do you pujas and chant your bhajans, but now is the time to stand up and defend yourselves.” He predicted that in the process of defending themselves and family members, someone may be hurt. “If there are bandits in your homes, don’t allow your sisters and daughters to be raped or taken advantage of or murdered. If it means that sometimes you have to sacrifice your lives, this is what we have to do.“

  1. I dunno. My 9mm SilencerCo can loosens on a semi-auto pistol.

And “Because the suppressor is on the outside of the barrel, when it heats up, it loosens as well” suggests that firing full auto will loosen the suppressor more quickly that firing semi-auto.

    But what do I know.

      • If you read the linked article, you’ll see that he follows that up with two techniques for dealing with it.

I don’t see why they don’t just align the baffles so that the expanding gas induces torque in the tighter direction.

        • If you keep tightening the can as it heats up…as the barrel and can cool…won’t they seize together?

        • “If you keep tightening the can as it heats up…as the barrel and can cool…won’t they seize together?”

Off to the range for a re-heat, then loosen.

          Repeat if necessary.

          Easy-Peasy… 😉

    • Maybe the tilting browning action, Piston action for most pistols contributes?

      On the other hand:
“We usually respond by handing that person a full-auto rifle and a couple mags, and challenging them to loosen the suppressor by shooting it. ”

Challenge accepted! Where do I apply for the chief-can-loosener job? Or what range can we meet up at for me to ask the indicated question? I would be glad to, um, find out the answer to this pressing problem.

  2. India, a new market for Remington! After a few weeks of sales India will copy them making firearms that work and sell them back to us….. sorry had too.

  3. If England wants someone to take those terrifying death machines off their hands I’ll take em and lock em up in a really safe place here in America so the guns can no longer hurt the poor UK subjects.

    • “Taking these unlicensed weapons off the street avoids the risk of them becoming involved in criminality making our communities safer for everyone.”

No it doesn’t. The people who would voluntarily turn in firearms are NOT the type of people who would go out shooting up the area… If they were, they would have already DONE it – unlicensed, y’know…

  4. Really frightening there Humberside. That collection looks like the floor next to one table, about 20 minutes before opening time, at a gun show here in the states.

  5. India makes a lot of the reproduction swords for the western market (Windlass, Universal Swords, Deepeeka, many Cold Steels, etc). If their government won’t let them have guns, then letting Indians defend themselves with their own industrial product would be good for business as well as more affordable for the average Indian.

Also, a 1796 light cavalry saber will do a number on any home invader, I figure.

      • In nearly every room of my house, resides a rotating rogue’s gallery of various soldierly steel implements (and one openly hidden gunstock war-club) designed to efficiently seperate blood & bone & brains from their natural locations.

Many of our blades would be quite sufficient for in-home defense when a firearm can’t be immediately accessed (inconceivable!), but I home carry a modern high-quality tactical tomahawk.

Because the house doesn’t have an open floorplan, wide hallways, or othwise clear sightlines, pretty much any fighting is going to be sudden, close, and likely on the ground.

Falling on one’s own blade (or having it pinned between an object/wall and one’s own body) is an often overlooked danger; and once on the ground, using an edge or point effectively with anything bigger than a bowie or tanto is problematic at best.

But tomahawks are a different story while ground fighting, and are useful for controlling limbs, hands, & heads…. important if the uninvited/wayward visitor just needs a long nap & and a temporary(ish) ban on use of certain joints/appendages…. rather than be sucked up by Servpro later.

    • Shorter would be better for narrow hallways and doorways: I like a gladius for that.
…mmm… nah. Just get a gun and stop trying to ask your government superiors for permission.

  6. Let me get this straight…
A serial killer, who left brass on the ground at the scene of his crimes, takes his gun to work, in a bag, and shows it around?
Is he really that stupid, or did he want to get caught?

    • He planned on leaving the state right after that, as that McDonalds is right off the interstate. It’s also where he worked.

The manager was told that they wouldn’t qualify for the crime stoppers reward, so own of the local business owners that donated money towards the reward went directly to her and handed her the check himself!

      • Crimestoppers appears to be mostly horseshit.

I am forever hearing stories of them trying to wheedle their way out of paying tipsters.

    • I thought the whole thing sounded strange as well. Guy comes to work in his own vehicle but instead of leaving the backpack in the vehicle he comes inside and asks someone to hold it. Then that person looks inside and calls the police who come and arrest the guy for what? Legally owning a firearm? Guy has the same ammo that is found on the ground at the crime scene… so what? Plenty people use that ammo. Only thing that sounds even slightly like evidence is the guys phone shows him in the area of 3 of the 4 murders and that is pretty weak evidence.

  7. “Taking these unlicensed weapons off the street avoids the risk of them becoming involved in criminality making our communities safer for everyone.”

Agreed. If the British leave their firearms in the streets they should be turned in. Who does that?

  8. “GIVE us guns”…there’s yer problem India boyz. Your democracy sucks. Who knows what motivates a serial killer?!? Handing your gat over to a co-worker sounds very “gangbanger”😡😡😡

  9. With regards to the loosening of a muffler:

To me this seems to have a lot to do with exactly how the can is built in terms of it’s threading/materials/tolerances.

My Osprey will start to turn under use but never more than maybe 30 degrees due to the weight of the can being off center. OTOH, my TBAC 223-P is the one I actually worry about. The TBAC however, once taken down to what I refer to as “hand firm” (instead of hand tight) has never moved on me. I used to think it would and I would check it ever 15 rounds or so but it just doesn’t move unless I actively try to loosen/remove it.

  10. Did you even read the article on the Hindu priest who was killed? It didn’t happen in India. It’s part of an overseas Hindu community in Trinidad & Tobago. While your points about access to firearms are valid, India’s gun laws have nothing to do with this case because it happened halfway across the world in the Caribbean.

  11. “If the State cannot get rid of the guns from the criminals, then give a licensed gun to each one of us to protect ourselves,” Seepersad said. He told pundits they were not sheep, but lions among men.

Right, lions asking the State to GIVE them arms. Licensed, no less. I’m sure he means well, buy the mind set is incredible.

    • But at least he understands they have a right to defense and to defend their lives and families. It is a first step in the right direction. Hopefully their next steps will be changing the laws in T&T so they can defend themselves. Good luck to them, wish them success.
