Ahead Of Annual NRA Convention, A Member Says It’s Sacrificing His Rights

Tim’s an NRA life member, but he’s not happy . . .

The National Rifle Association’s annual meeting begins Friday in Dallas, and some members of the organization plan to voice their discontent with the positions the NRA has taken in the past year.

Lifetime member Tim Harmsen, the owner of Copper Custom Gun Shop in Valparaiso, Ind., and the creator and host of the Military Arms Channel on YouTube, says he’s bringing boxes of T-shirts that reflect his disappointment.

“The shirts say ‘NRA: Not Real Activists.’ So, we’re not happy with the direction that [NRA leaders] Wayne LaPierre and Chris Cox have taken,” Harmsen says. “They think that the resolution to all that ails the country is constant compromise on our constitutional rights, and there’s a growing number of us who are dissatisfied with that.”

US Banks and Credit Card Companies Are Reportedly Looking Into Monitoring Gun Purchases

What could possibly go wrong? . . .

Sources familiar with the discussions tell the Journal that the companies have researched the possibility of creating a credit card purchase code for firearm vendors (the same way the companies code a restaurant or retail purchase). Another possibility would be creating a provision that requires retailers to report information on what gun-related products customers are buying. …

A Citigroup spokesperson told the Journal that the policy would not affect customers’ abilities to use Citi’s cards to legally purchase firearms. TPG also reached out to Citi, and a representative provided this additional statement: “We are focused on implementing our firearms policy and not on conversations around identifying gun purchases.”

TPG also reached out to Chase, which declined to comment on the reported discussions.

‘WTF!!’ South Florida paper runs gun show ad below stories of mass shootings

Unfortunate, but let’s not get the vapors, OK? . . .

After a Parkland school victim’s dad sounded the alarm, the publisher of a major South Florida newspaper that circulates in the city, where 17 people were killed in a mass shooting, apologized for running a gun show ad at the bottom of Wednesday’s front page that featured two stories about shooting rampages.

The Fort Lauderdale Gun Show ad at the bottom of the South Florida Sun-Sentinel’s front page stood out because of its presentation — a dark semiautomatic pistol and red letters on a yellow background — and because of its juxtaposition. The front page featured a large centerpiece photo of mourning teens titled “Remembering Alyssa” that referred to a story about the birthday of Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School murder victim Alyssa Alhadeff. She would have turned 15 on Tuesday.

New York Officials Weaponize Regulatory Power Against the NRA

Othering guns, gun owners and the organizations that represent them . . .

Do you need another demonstration of how dangerous regulatory power can be when it’s weaponized by politicians? Look no further than New York Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo’s recent directive to financial regulators. Cuomo wants them to pressure private companies to break ties with the National Rifle Association (NRA). The “or else” is just a hair from being overt.

“I am directing the Department of Financial Services to urge insurers and bankers statewide to determine whether any relationship they may have with the NRA or similar organizations sends the wrong message to their clients and their communities who often look to them for guidance and support,” the governor wrote in a statement.

The Department of Financial Services, which regulates the banking and insurance industries in New York, followed up with guidance letters to insurance companies and banks.

ACLU national director calls NRA tactics “model worthy of emulation”

They still can’t manage to count to two . . .

The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) has planned to spend $25 million on ballot measures in the 2018 midterm elections and the organization’s national political director Faiz Shakir insisted Thursday that ACLU is “not a partisan organization.” Its focus is building the ACLU brand similar to how the National Rifle Association (NRA) has done with its members in creating a large voting bloc.

Shakir said the “NRA voter” model could be something ACLU mimics and he called it “wonderful” during an interview Thursday night on CBSN’s “Red & Blue.” He said “we have much to learn” from the NRA and they have “set a model worthy of emulation” — despite not agreeing on many issues.

“I think that is what the NRA has done well … building an affinity with its brand, their own members … they have built the idea of the ‘NRA voter,'” Shakir said. “I hope in the next few months you’re going to see the building and the flex of ACLU members.”

Nearly 40 shot over three days in Chicago, including young mother, 4-year-old girl, teen on CTA bus

This year’s casualty total in Chicago had been down, and the the weather improved . . .

A young mother. A 4-year-old girl. A 15-year-old boy riding the bus home from school.

They are among the nearly 40 people shot in Chicago over just three days this week, days when the temperature reached into the 80s and drew more people into the streets. In fact, this level of violence on weekdays is usually not seen until the middle of summer, according to data kept by the Tribune.

On the first warm day Monday, at least one person was killed and nine others were wounded, according to Chicago police. On Tuesday through early Wednesday, 12 people were hit by gunfire over 12 hours, including a 4-year-old girl shot in the shoulder as she sat on a porch on the South Side with her parents. There were also two double-shootings.

Wednesday was the worst of the week so far: At least 14 people hit by gunfire in the city over nine hours. They included a 21-year-old mother of a toddler killed in a West Side drive-by that wounded four teens, and a 15-year-old boy grazed in the head as he rode a CTA bus home from Walter Payton High School.

  1. “ACLU national director calls NRA tactics “model worthy of emulation””

Hey, ACLU – How about taking it over the finish line by embracing the 2A with the same zeal as you do the rest of the ‘Bill of Rights’?

You might be pleasantly surprised by the increase in support of the ACLU by the gun people…

    • No kidding! If they could count to two, I’d probably join. As would many others.
Hey ACLU, multiply a million with your dues membership. See that number?
It’s like, really big! As in your saleries just increased by 25%…
      Think about it.

    • Don’t do it.

Look at the recent positioning by the A C some L U’s new leadership. Going full social justice – their words, not mine. Their recent P R reads like they’ve decided to become S E I U reborn.

They’re looking at the NRA as a model for mobilization and activism, not principles n position. (Of course.) Neither do they get that the NRA “grass roots” is, indeed self-seeding; the org is the members’ least bad option, to advance what they already value. They don’t see it because they can’t.

What are ya gonna do. Vanguards gonna vanguard.

    • The ACLU doesn’t support the Bill of Rights. They use the Bill of Rights to protect their political message while simultaneously silencing the message of those they disagree with. They believe in civil rights for some, but not for all.

  2. A BIG Thank You to Mr. Tim Harmsman !!! — N.R.A. and Trump rolled over and opened the door WIDE for the Anti’s at every level. TALK is cheap , maybe Wayne LaPaycheck and crew will get it , but I doubt it. Nice to see others are not AFRAID to call out NRA or POTUS.

  3. Not Real Activists is a new one to me.

I used to call them National Republican Association because they’d endorse any R, pro-gun or anti. Then, as if they listened to me, they started endorsing Dems, almost all of whom turned out as bad as Senator Gillibrand. It turns out there is NO such thing as a pro-gun Democrat, so that was my bad.

Since then, we’ve been calling them Negotiating Rights Away. Seems fitting enough, especially in light of their preemptive capitulation on bump stocks.

  4. Whomever was the editor at the Sentinel deserves a Troll of the Year award. Also, my applause. XD Anything to troll those little drama queens is fair in my book.

      • Who ever laid out that newspaper is genius

Is like boldly saying—only IF one good person was armed….this would not have happened!

        whats next
Spinal surgery next to B’C’oward co sheriffs stories or recruitment ads??

    • The outrage over that front page indicates that a lot of people WANT the news media to be biased in their reporting policies.

  5. Unfortunately, harnessing New York states regulatory powers to form a cartel to restrain interstate commerce runs afoul of the Sherman Anti-Trust Act. There is nothing in antitrust law that immunizes the State of New York.

    • Excuse me? What is so unfortunate about holding the State of NY Governor and his executive department liable for anti-trust violations?

    • It will come as quite a sh9ck to our friends in Albany, should some court find that the purpose of regulation is *not* forming a cartel to extort an industry.

What did they get into the authoritah racket for anyway, if not that?

    • Since it is Democrats doing this they can do whatever they want and nothing will happen to them.

If a Republican was doing this then he would be indicted in a New York minute and you wouldn’t hear the end of it on the MSM.

  6. I’m glad my NRA membership is free…not happy with their “efforts”. I’ll have to check out that gunshop in Valparaiso. Sorry but I don’t trust the ACLU a damn bit. I’d USE them if I had to…

  7. “Instead, we should ban possession of military-style semiautomatic assault weapons, we should buy back such weapons from all who choose to abide by the law, and we should criminally prosecute any who choose to defy it by keeping their weapons,”

So IANAL but I am curious given that he is not advocating for the legal repeal of the 2nd amendment but is rather advocating for the violation of the constitutionally protected rights of millions of americans why these wouldn’t apply, or perhaps they do…

    18 U.S. Code 2:

“(a) Whoever commits an offense against the United States or aids, abets, counsels, commands, induces or procures its commission, is punishable as a principal.
    (b) Whoever willfully causes an act to be done which if directly performed by him or another would be an offense against the United States, is punishable as a principal.”

    18 U.S Code 242:

“Whoever, under color of any law, statute, ordinance, regulation, or custom, willfully subjects any person in any State, Territory, Commonwealth, Possession, or District to the deprivation of any rights, privileges, or immunities secured or protected by the Constitution or laws of the United States, or to different punishments, pains, or penalties, on account of such person being an alien, or by reason of his color, or race, than are prescribed for the punishment of citizens, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than one year, or both; and if bodily injury results from the acts committed in violation of this section or if such acts include the use, attempted use, or threatened use of a dangerous weapon, explosives, or fire, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than ten years, or both; and if death results from the acts committed in violation of this section or if such acts include kidnapping or an attempt to kidnap, aggravated sexual abuse, or an attempt to commit aggravated sexual abuse, or an attempt to kill, shall be fined under this title, or imprisoned for any term of years or for life, or both, or may be sentenced to death.”

    Thoughts?

    • They can’t violate any of those. A wise constitutional scholar said many times that “Nobody is coming for your guns.”

  8. “WE should ban possession of military-style semiautomatic assault weapons, WE should buy back such weapons from all who choose to abide by the law, and WE should criminally prosecute any who choose to defy it by keeping their weapons”

Forget that “WE” shit. YOU ban them and YOU come for them, okay snowflake? Nobody else. You. And wear your Depends.

    • That is the perfect poison pill amendment: by voting for this bill the member agrees to serve for a period of six months as a member of the team that goes out to confiscate weapons within their home district.

      • Only one problem there… They can be on the team but that don’t mean they’ll be kicking in doors. See there’s a marvelous thing about teams, whether you’re on the field or not you’re still on the team. For example, let’s say Rusty is 3rd string on the Dallas Cowboys. Rusty will never see any time on the field but Rusty is still technically a Dallas Cowboy. I suspect the same would happen if your amendment were enacted. Socialist Politician would still be on the confiscation team and might even be out in the field but they damn sure won’t be the one making entry and actually taking the guns. Likely, they’ll be in the chopper circling over head or in a command and control vehicle down the block.

        • If Rusty has never been the object of a bail hearing, Rusty is not a Dallas Cowboy.

  9. So what has Timmy Harmsen done for the cause? Other than make money from a gun shop and a YT channel. I’ve never seen or heard of him lobbying in DC. Perhaps he marched on the state capital? He does complain a lot, other than that what has he done? And all his complaints seem to come at the apex of leftist anti-gun activity, just as the NRA convention is under way. How much has his company donated and to what organization?

    • I have no idea how much Tim donated
(If any) and to whom. I don’t know if he marched on the Capitol. I don’t see anything wrong with making money in business.

I do know that he has been asking his 719,000 subscribers to call and mail their representatives and to get active in fight for our rights. How many people did you personally try to convince to do the same?

  10. ACLU is a suspect organization and tilts Left. They would gain credibility if they could ever recognize the 2A.
NRA could use some new blood.
    Kyle Kashuv gets it.
“You know, I talked to many Republican legislators in DC and you know what I heard? What I heard was that we have to defend the Second Amendment but I think we have to do more than that. We have to grow the Second Amendment because right now the Republicans are on defense and you can never win by playing defense.” – Kyle Kashuv in Kyle Kashuv: Republicans Must Quit Playing Defense and ‘Grow the Second Amendment’ [via breitbart.com]

    • Politicians in DC need not so much defend the 2nd A, but abide by it! It is a supreme law of the land and it says clearly ‘DO NOT TOUCH!’. It doesnt realy need to grow either – making it doubleplus forbidding is not going to scare gun grabbers. Only personal consequences for those who try to break it will.
Otherwise I agree with Kyle, look where all the defending got us.

      I want my cake back!

  11. Do all chapters of the ACLU toe that line? Or are there any local chapters that can in fact count to two?
