Actors Lectured America (Again) About Gun Control While Men With ‘Assault Weapons’ Protected Them at the Oscars – Let’s thank them for taking time out from raping and harassing each other long enough to impart their wisdom to the rest of us . . .

Another year at the Oscars came and went over the weekend with predictable lectures about gun control from Hollywood’s elites.

During Sunday night’s show, which was rated the lowest in televised Oscar history, everyone from host Jimmy Kimmel to actor and rapper Common took shots at American gun owners and the National Rifle Association. The gun confiscation organization Everytown, funded by former NYC Mayor Michael Bloomberg, was also in tow providing talking points.

“Tell the NRA they’re in God’s way and to the people of Parkland we say asé,” Common rapped from the stage.

Broward County Sheriff’s Office Oversaw Concealed-Carry Training for Mosque-Goers – So protecting houses of worship with concealed firearms is OK, but protecting children in schools is an insane idea. Got it.

The Broward County Sheriff’s Office oversaw a training session led by one of its deputies to teach mosque-goers how to carry a concealed weapon.

Sheriff Scott Israel officially oversaw the side job of Deputy Nezar Hamze, a Muslim American, as regional operations director for the Florida chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), according to documents obtained by National Review from the Broward County Sheriff’s Office. Israel had a representative sign for him on the form that gave Hamze permission to work for CAIR.

New Gun Bill Would Mandate Reporting of Buyers Blocked by Background Check – Common sense gun legislation we can all get behind?

A bipartisan group of senators today unveiled legislation requiring federal authorities to notify state law enforcement officials when a person barred from purchasing a gun attempts to do so.

The NICS Denial Notification Act was introduced by Sens. Pat Toomey (R-Pa.), Chris Coons (D-Del.), Marco Rubio (R-Fla.), and Bill Nelson (D-Fla.), and co-sponsored by Sens. John Cornyn (R-Texas), Tammy Duckworth (D-Ill.), Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.), and Claire McCaskill (D-Mo.). The senators argue that those who fail the background check and violate the law when trying to get a gun — such as convicted felons and domestic abusers — are rarely prosecuted.

America's gun culture problem

America’s Gun-Culture Problem — The problem isn’t the guns, it’s you.

For now is the time for tension. Gun owners should feel uncomfortable by the atrocities taking place in American schools. American politics should not be dominated by those Americans who play soldier by owning assault rifles or other tactical weapons, and whose insecurity about their own identity is so pronounced that they need to buy more and more small arms to compensate for that insecurity.

Changing culture is hard, and it’s harder still when organizations like the NRA and the gun manufacturers it serves have a vested interest in convincing Americans to buy more and more firearms on an annual basis. But if America wants to reduce gun deaths and preserve gun rights for future generations, it needs to reverse the cultural shifts in attitudes toward small arms that have taken root in the past 20 years.

Alabama Senator Doug Jones wants more gun control

Alabama Ready for More Gun Control, Sen. Doug Jones Says — Deep red Alabama managed to lose a Senate seat to a Democrat…and this is what happens.

Jones wants tighter background checks for gun sales and to raise the age requirement to purchase a gun from 18 to 21, and he thinks Alabamians are on the same page.

“People in Alabama love their guns, but they also love their children,” Jones told CNN Friday at an event at Birmingham’s Civil Rights Institute sponsored by the Faith and Politics Institute, NOLA.com reported. “And they like to be safe in theaters, and they like to be safe in churches, and I think there is common ground.”

The NRA and its allies use jargon to bully gun-control supporters – Stop the gunsplaining! The media don’t like it when you point out the fact that they have no idea what they’re talking about when they talk about guns . . .

The phenomenon isn’t new, but in the weeks since the tragic shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Fla., a lot of gun-skeptical liberals are getting a taste of it for the first time: While debating the merits of various gun control proposals, Second Amendment enthusiasts often diminish, or outright dismiss their views if they use imprecise firearms terminology.

Perhaps someone tweets about “assault-style” weapons, only to be told that there’s no such thing. Maybe they’re reprimanded that an AR-15 is neither an assault rifle nor “high-powered.” Or they say something about “machine guns” when they really mean semiautomatic rifles. Or they get sucked into an hours-long Facebook exchange over the difference between the terms clip and magazine.

I Wanted to Be a Good Mom. So I Got a Gun. The New York Times wanted to seem fair for a femtosecond or two so they found themselves a pro-gun Mom — who thinks due process-free gun violence restraining orders are common ground . . .

Many gun owners insist the answer isn’t a ban, but rather evaluating who can obtain these weapons. President Trump is now reportedly considering the idea of gun restraining orders, which have the ability to quickly take firearms away from those considered dangerous, like the shooter in Parkland. A variation of this law is already on the books in California.

In 2016, 86 of these restraining orders were issued, and 10 were extended past the initial 21-day period they were granted for. Our side insists that people are the problem, not guns, and to make good on that we need to come to the table with ideas on how to keep weapons out of the hands of dangerous individuals who have no business holding them.

This idea . . . isn’t a panacea. But it is a middle ground for gun-rights supporters and gun-control activists to meet. Many supporters of the Second Amendment know something is broken, just as its opponents do, and ideas like Mr. French’s can bring many more to the negotiating table than calling for outright bans on guns or the notion that there are no legislative solutions to the gun violence issue.

  1. “But if America wants to reduce gun deaths and preserve gun rights for future generations, it needs to reverse the cultural shifts in attitudes toward small arms that have taken root in the past 20 years.”

So destroying gun rights is the way to save them? I think not.

    “gunsplaining”

I love this term and find it amusing but really it’s not. The problem isn’t that people are “accidentally” misusing terminology (which makes an actual conversation impossible) it’s that they have NO FUCKING IDEA WHAT THEY’RE TALKING ABOUT and that this is NOT an accident. They don’t know the difference between and AR-15 and a “machine gun” not because they are simply ignorant but because they’ve been TOLD than an AR-15 is a “machine gun” in a deliberate attempt to muddy the waters of any discussion that might take place.

The basis of a “conversation” is words. For that conversation to mean anything we have to agree on the meaning of the words before the conversations starts. Otherwise we’re just birds squawking at each other mindlessly. I mean, we can’t debate the merits of painting your house yellow if “yellow” means five different things to the five people in the discussion now fucking can we?

    • The “gunsplaining” article makes my blood pressure rise.

Firearms are not fucking rocket science. Its simple nomenclature that even my much younger self could grasp without much effort. And its been corrected to them, ad nauseum, for DECADES.

“Stupidity cannot be cured. Stupidity is the only universal capital crime; the sentence is death. There is no appeal, and execution is carried out automatically and without pity.”- Robert Heinlein

      • “And its been corrected to them, ad nauseum, for DECADES.”

Not really. Your average person using these terms has had them fed to them by the media which knows damn well what the words mean and actively chooses the wrong ones.

        • …while they understand that “if you repeat a lie often enough, it becomes the truth”…

    • That Washington Post piece was laughable- the Canadian experience is that the anti-gunners always argue in bad faith, so the charge that pro-gunners are doing it is pure projection. This article is no different. It’s important for me to remind the Americans reading this that no, there is never a point where the anti-freedom types are satisfied. There will always be something more they are happy to take from you. Right now it’s “just” a few firearms types, then a few more, then a few more- then all of them.

      • “…there is never a point where the anti-freedom types are satisfied. “

We know. They hate the 2A but they openly voice disgust for the 1A, 4A, 5A, 6A and 8A.

To be fair a lot of “Conservatives” do the same. The things they want to control or ban might be different but the logic, rationale and methods do not vary. Anti-freedom types, that is tyrants, come in a wide variety of flavors but their mode of operation doesn’t.

        • “there is never a point where the anti-freedom types are satisfied.”-You WOULD know, your support for governmental control over an individuals medical making decisions is the SAME EXACT THING.

      • Well said. Much like how Austrailia’s useful idiots were just fine with the post Port-Arthur laws as long as they could continue to hunt, but were then blindsided and shocked- shocked, I tell you!- when Grandpa’s old bolt gun was suddenly reclassified as a “sniper rifle”

    • The reason is that they revel in the ignorance among their peers. What does it take to learn the nomenclature? Ten maybe fifteen minutes at most?

      • You assume that they care. The media hates guns and intentionally uses the wrong terms.

Your average non-gun person hears the terms repeated constantly in the news and in movies and just picks them up. They don’t have it explained to them correctly very often because that would require seeking out said knowledge which they don’t do because they’re not gun people.

I mean, why would they seek out esoteric knowledge about something they care about for a few weeks a year when they get all frothy and moist about a school shooting that they then promptly forget about? You really think your average reality TV fan is going to do that?

        • You’re absolutely right. However when you’re proposing new laws & support restricting or revoking someone’s constitutionally protected rights, a semi-intelligent & reasonable person would agree the due diligence of actually learning about the subject is required. It makes me absolutely fucking crazy when these average people are saying “repeal the second amendment” when they don’t know the first thing about firearms, except what they’ve heard or read from MSM & Facebook. But I guess it’s easy to strip rights from others when you don’t plan to ever exercise those rights yourself. May they all reap what they sow.

    • “But if America wants to reduce gun deaths…”

I can’t speak for America, but personally I don’t care about reducing ‘gun deaths’. Violence is violence regardless of the tool that’s used. Is it better to get hacked to death with machetes or shot with a gun? Who cares?!?

      • True. I’m quite sure there is a plethora of MS13/gangbanger types in Chicago/etc that still need shootin/whatever.

      • Gov Faubus what about evolution aka evil-lution, would your home-schooling indoctrination juxtapose this as merely a “theory” like Creationism aka Intelligent Design?

        Gov. William J Le Petomane

        • Why do you hate black people, Gov. Faubus? Why are you such a racist?

    • Oh please, stop with the whole “they have NO FUCKING IDEA WHAT THEY’RE TALKING ABOUT “. Lets be really honest and drop all the legal terms and crap. Most any self-loading rifle is a far more effective weapon than the traditional submachine guns everyone thinks of when someone says “machine gun”. The only reason that that intermediate caliber rifles have full automatic fire it to allow them to be used as submachine gun for those rare times that sub gun may make some sense. Personalty, even if I had a selector switch on an AR-15, I would probably not use it.
Now the really scary weapons are the real “machine guns” weapons designed for SUSTAINED rapid fire with rifle caliber rounds. Who care how the guns operate or what they are called, the ability to pore 500 RPM SUSTAINED into a crowd is nasty. Part of the reason WW1 was such a mess. And lets be get back to being 100% honest, it was the slide-fire stocks with the 100 round sure fire magazines that let the Las Vegas shooter do what he did. The only reason there we not as many dead was he decided to go after the fuel tanks. Where the guns he used ideal? No, but they worked and there are better guns out there that utilize bump stocks. Guns that would not be every popular if were not for the bump stocks and binary triggers. And trust me, every time you equate a bump-stock equipped rifle with any other semi automatic out there, you sound like you have “NO FUCKING IDEA WHAT YOUR TALKING ABOUT”.
The NFA was not passed because of how guns worked, it was passed because of what they did.

The only reason that that intermediate caliber rifles have full automatic fire it to allow them to be used as submachine gun for those rare times that sub gun may make some sense and act a bit like a SAW. Personalty, even if I had a selector switch on an AR-15, I would probably not use it.

Now the really scary weapons are the real “machine guns”. Weapons designed for SUSTAINED rapid fire with rifle caliber rounds. Who care how the guns operate or what they are called, the ability to pore 500 RPM SUSTAINED into a crowd is nasty. Part of the reason WW1 was such a mess.

And lets be get back to being 100% honest, it was the slide-fire stocks with the 100 round sure fire magazines that let the Las Vegas shooter flex his “semi auto” AR-15s into a light machine gun role and do what he did. The only reason there we not as many dead was he decided to go after the fuel tanks. Where the guns he used ideal? No, but they worked and there are better guns out there that utilize bump stocks. Guns that would not be very popular if were not for the bump stocks and binary triggers. Better?

      • None of which matters binder. That’s the point.

Get as moist as you want but it doesn’t change the fact that most of the people in the conversation are ignorant and ignorant by design.

Your technical arguments about sub-guns vs full auto rifles vs crew served MG’s mean precisely nothing to someone who has no idea what you’re talking about which is somewhere on the order of 95% of the people on the other side of the argument.

They don’t know shit. They get feelz, they emote, they comment on the internet, they spout off in bars and the common thread with most of those people and most of what they say is that they know exactly fuck all about the subject but think that they do. They repeat the same ignorant shit you see on CNN all the time. You think that’s an accident?

Further, the NFA was not passed because of MG’s. While MG’s and things like the Saint Valentines Day Massacre played a part in the NFA the law was really meant mainly to go after handguns and was basically dead in the water until Giuseppe Zangara tried to kill FDR with a $8 hardware store Iver Johnson .32 revolver and instead wounded five people, one of whom was the Mayor of Chicago who subsequently died of his injuries. This reignited a push for what would become the NFA, again with the main idea being the regulation of handguns. That portion of the bill was later dropped but the bill was passed as part of what we today would recognize as the “Well, we have to do something mantra”.

      • “The only reason that that intermediate caliber rifles have full automatic fire it to allow them to be used as submachine gun for those rare times that sub gun may make some sense.”

A rifle can become a submachine gun only if it shoots a pistol round. An AR-15 uses a rifle round and can, therefore, be only a machine gun.

        • Thank you for reinforcing my point. USED AS. Who really cares about all the legal and technical issues, its the effect that really matters. I have a far better grasp of the operation of firearms than most people on this board, and trust me the Pro-Gun side comes off as assholes when they start up their technobabble.

        • re: binder

Because the difference between a race car and a willys jeep doesn’t matter due to they both go faster then any person can run, they both use a internal combustion engine, they have four wheels and a steering wheel.

Now that’s interesting, if we go by that logic for firearms we could ban the AR-15 because it can fire a lot of bullets in a short period of time. Sorry folks, you can only have break, lever or bolt action rifles, no semi-autos.

      • ” The only reason there we not as many dead was he decided to go after the fuel tanks”

There is absolutely no evidence this murderer shot the fuel tanks. None. At. All.
        No bullets were recovered.
There are no witnesses to say he shot the tanks.
There is no timeline; i.e., no one can say when the fuel tanks were actually shot.
To think that this particular even accounts for all shootings within a 30-day period (30 days chosen out of thin air) is absurd.
That so many people think he shot the tanks, based on nothing more than a report that the tanks were shot, shows just how ready we are to jump to conclusions.

      • Guns that would not be every popular if were not for the bump stocks and binary triggers.

And what guns would that be?

    • This is a “Johnathan Gruber” play, again with the lies to use the “stupidity of the American public” . “Big Lie” as a propaganda technique applies also. They have to lie to get what they want because the truth is that gun control is a failure. This is another example of how “Weinstein ethics” is alive and well in holywood. No different than his hypocracy with women. What do you expect from a profession that practices the art of deceiving watchers at is heart, the basic profession of acting is to deceive you into thinking they are something they are not.

    • Great response. Period. Get educated before you have a discussion or make your comments, wow what a unique concept. Stupid is as stupid does. Stop feeling and start thinking. There is common ground…or is there? After my latest discussion with an anti-gunner, I am not sure there is. Feels like the Civil War all over again. Let just keep it civil.

  2. I absolutely support prosecuting people who fail the NICS background check IF the failure was because they were truly prohibited. My concern is that the vast majority of denials on NICS are not because the applicant was deservedly denied, but because of similarities in names, some incorrect data from 30 years ago, etc. If the senate bill results in the reporting AND arrest of every denied buyer, this is a HUGE problem for me.

Otherwise, anti-gunners are still full of still full of shit and idiocy, I see.

    • The law, as it exists and is not enforced, prohibits lying in the form in order to avoid being flagged. It does not make it illegal to just be denied for any of the reasons you mentioned. In fact you can answer the questions in such a way that you will always be denied and it is not a crime as long as you answer them honestly.

      • Right? And it’s an absurd bill anyway. I’d wager that fewer than .01% of those denials were ex-cons trying to buy guns. I mean, that’s almoat universally known, that felons are federally prohibited from owning firearms

        • All the bill requires is that the FBI notify the State of failed background checks. Nothing really hard. I think the FBI and Justice Department already keep records of prosecutions from failed background checks.

    • That’s my concern, if someone is refused and then arrested but it turns out that there was a mistaken identity then he still has legal issues that he cannot afford. I had a friend that was denied and it cost him thousands of dollars to get it straightened out. There should be a warning if you are turned down that you need to contact whomever to appeal the denial and to not to attempt another purchase until situation is corrected. Wonder how many erroneous denials there are a year ?

  3. Doug Jones is nothing more than a Clinton Liberal. In fact, as you all may know, we had TWO complete morons running in the race. Most people I know voted for Roy Moore knowing, that whomever won, they would be nothing more than a seat-warmer and one-termer on the hope the GOP could field a good candidate. Well, we got Dougie/Doogie Jones instead. Anyway, I digress…he’s pandering to his Jefferson County base with his gun control rhetoric. Birmingham is fast becoming the Mogadishu of Alabama….hope he enjoys his one term.

    • Amen, the sooner this POS is gone the better. I know I did not vote for him and no one I know did. Who put this idiot in office?? The slander ads they put up were terrible. Also looks like Kelly Conway got the boot over this BS as well.

  4. Their moral authority on sexual harassment and abuse in the workplace completely tells me how much to listen to them on guns.

  5. The real question is why progressives don’t think children deserve the same level of protection enjoyed by congressmen, the president, and celebrities. The biggest advocates of restricting others’ right to self protection are themselves protected by armed guards. Why not America’s schoolchildren? Why uniquely single out schoolchildren as soft targets? The fact is they WANT children to remain vulnerable to attack to scare parents into giving up their freedoms. Unprotected kids being killed in schools serves their long term agenda. Yes, these cowards are that despicable. THEIR kids go to private schools and enjoy armed protection. Let’s see one single celebrity announce giving up their armed protection. It won’t happen. Let’s make the Capital an unguarded “gun free zone”, like they’ve made our schools and watch what happens. This is what tyrany looks like, folks. These people are not ignorant nor are they unaware of the results of their policies. They are quite, simply, evil.

    • ^^^ This right here ^^^

They want to continue to use the kids over and over again to push gun their step by step disarmament of the public. They don’t want real solutions to stop or minimize the effectiveness of attacks as that will limit their ability to use the kids to make emotional pleas.

    • How so? Remember nearly everything you heard about Moore was a deliberate smear campaign undertaken by cooperating Republicans and Democrats mad the people didn’t like the RINO chosen by a governor in the middle of a corruption scandal.

      • You are so far in denial that you can’t see the sunshine

Guy made a career of being a showboating fool and allegations stretched back decades. There was a REASON that the GOP and Trump didn’t endorse him, and it was because they knew shit was stirring under the surface. But those good ol boys showed em and got him in the primary! And somehow got a democrat elected in Alabama. But it was totally a conspiracy, not yet another predatory politician.

Elvis ain’t dead! We never landed on the moon! Sheeeeple!

        • “allegations stretched back decades.”

Which ones? The mall he was never banned from? The waiter who worked at a place who wouldn’t hire people her age? The woman bitter about a custody despite Moore ruled against her in that forged his initials and those of his clerk onto a yearbook and refused to have it authenticated? All the allegations I’m familiar with were discredited (no thanks to RINOS)

  6. The NICS Denial Notification Act –

The only way could *possibly* be on board with that is, there are people who may be on the denied list, who are truly unaware they are on the denied list. For *whatever* reason.

I would propose, unless the denial was for a felony conviction involving physical violence, there should be a ‘one strike’ provision.

    Such as –

The cops investigate the denial, and then inform the individual as to *why* they were denied, and have them sign a statement that they now understand why they were denied, and if they attempt to purchase again in the future, that they would be prosecuted fully. If they are prosecuted, the cops have their signature proving they were informed.

Britain has something similar, I think they call it a ‘cautionary warning’ or similar.

It’s how ‘The Who’s Pete Townsend skated on child porn charges. He claimed he was investigating child trafficking, and he apparently had evidence he was doing just that, so they gave him a ‘Caution Warning’ of some sort…

    • What about all the people who are denied for having same or similar name to a criminal or are otherwise false positives (remember, these is the source of almost all denials)? Are we going to waste police resources everytime a Robert Smith or Tim Harmsen tries to buy a gun without forking over their social?

      • yes.

We waste law enforcement resources on much dumber things

Take the tinfoil off and use your social or deal with it.

        • Oh good. We send cops by and fringerprint random, most likely innocent, people because someone in the country of 320 million (plus who knows how many dead people that could still get NICS triggered) had a similar name.

      • There are a lot of false positives. Especially if a SSN isn’t given.

Regardless, I don’t give a shit, because I support the private sale. I don’t endorse background checks at all. The solution isn’t a cultural change away from guns, it’s a cultural change towards morals, towards responsibility. Gun’s are not the problem. If guns are the problem, then forks are the problem for fat people. Cars are the problem with wrecks, and alcohol is the problem for DUI’s.

    • All the law is that the FBI notifies the State if someone fails to pass a NICS check.. That is all. It’s up to the states / local police to investigate.

    • He didn’t waste much time, did he.

Hopefully Moore gets locked in a room so he can’t screw it up this time.

    • And there will be another one along to take his place in no time. This political game is a loser when the people already have “shall not be infringed.” Insist on it and take nothing less.

  7. I enjoy messing with gunTARDS. When I got into guns a mere 7 years ago I decided to educate myself as much as possible. Being OCD helps…17 year old winky boyz don’t get to lecture me. Too stupid to know they’re stupid…I’m not looking to convert anyone.

  8. You must be 12, with that spelling. Does your mommy know you’re messing with her computer again? And you’ve got a coloring test tomorrow, I hope you studied! Also, don’t eat the crayons again

    • I realize that you’re apparently Australian, but the proper American Bigot Dictionary spelling of ‘Jews’ is ‘Joos.’ Just like it’s pronounced.
Don’t’ forget a lot of spittle and white froth at the corners of your mouth when you say it.
“Joooooooos. . . ” Scream it at the top of your lungs.
      There, do you feel better?
      I thought you would.

  9. The gun lobby uses jargon to bully the opposition? How dare xe! I’m triggered by the intersectional microaggressions of the hoplophobonormative power structure. #Time’sUp for dismantling the systemic bias in the media against guns and gun owners.

  10. ” But if America wants to reduce gun deaths and preserve gun rights for future generations, it needs to reverse the cultural shifts in attitudes toward small arms that have taken root in the past 20 years.”
That says to me that re-education camps will be coming once the Lib/Progs think they have enough power. People of the Gun rounded up and “re-educated” until they get the culture “right” according to the Progs.

  11. The senators argue that those who fail the background check and violate the law when trying to get a gun — such as convicted felons and domestic abusers — are rarely prosecuted.

Last year there were 17 convictions for this. As John Lott has so eloquently analyzed, the false denial rate is between 94% & 96%. And that only accounts for those who were reversed in the first 3 days as a matter of course and those which were reversed on appeal. That doesn’t account for those that we not appealed. All things being equal, this is a non issue. Somehow we muddled about for 215 years without background checks. They serve no purpose whatsoever other than to disenfranchise tens of thousands of honest citizens. If we don’t trust someone with a gun we should re-evaluate whether or not that person should be free to walk about with the rest of us. For anyone who truly wants a gun for evil purposes will get one and no law will stop them. There is no compelling governmental interest which supports infringing upon the rights of millions of citizens.

  12. “People in Alabama love their guns, but they also love their children,” – Doug Jones

Total non-sequitur. The guns aren’t killing the children any more than forks are making people fat, and cars are causing wrecks. This isn’t a gun problem. It’s a moral problem with individuals that have embraced the most horrid of attitudes: That nothing matters, and they hate everyone and everything. Restrictions on our freedoms aren’t the problem, and are not the root cause. But these events, such as these school shootings do seem to help them fuel their agenda and their “sale” of what the problem is.

  13. Doug Jones is a delusional democrat who has no clue what Alabamians want. The main thing we want is him locked up at Gitmo for the terrorist that he is.

  14. Doug Jones only speaks for himself and the leftists that live in Alabama. He’s working hard not to be elected for a full term in 2020. He does not speak for everyone. This Alabamian doesn’t want ANY new gun control!

  15. The people asking for an “honest” conversation want anything but an honest conversation. That should be pretty evident after this round of anti-2A paid astroturfing, and the useful idiots mindlessly repeating the manufactured for emotion language being used to attack one of the most fundamental freedoms we have.

  16. “. . . Reporting of Buyers Blocked by Background Checks” Hmmmmm, this is interesting. Perhaps this is something we PotG ought to consider getting behind. Let’s follow the logic here from beginning to end.

John Lott Jr. has strongly criticized the NICS system for producing profoundly excessive FALSE-positive “DENY” responses. Are all these DENY responses really valid (Lott is mistaken)? If so, then presumably there are lots of Prohibited-Persons out there eagerly trying to buy guns in the black market and these really ought to be chased-down. Conversely, Lott might be correct; and if it were so it were a grievous fault; and grievously ought Congress to answer for it.

How will we know whether Lott is correct or not? Congress ignores Lott. So, if we get behind this mandate to report DENY responses to the local constabulary then we will FLOOD police departments with Lott’s asserted false-positives. Police departments will face a contingent risk that they will be tarred and feathered by the press for failing to pick the needle out of the haystack whenever one of these thousands of DENY’ed buyers is arrested for a heinous crime. Police will be forced to spend precious resources thumbing through these reports looking for needles; and will fail anyway. Police chiefs will sooner or later find it to be in their own interest to join with Lott in complaining to Congress that NICS produces mostly false-positives.

The police, rank-and-file and chiefs alike, have not been outspoken in support of civilian guns. Why should they go out of their way to support the 2A? We aren’t giving them any compelling reason to do so. We could change that! We COULD give police a compelling reason to come-out in favor of gun-owner’s complaints by choosing to back the Antis’ efforts to make their lives miserable.

If we come out in support of this proposal I’d advocate that we do so forthrightly. Lott is either RIGHT / WRONG; and this proposal will yield the evidence one way or the other. It will be a small price to pay to have America’s police chase thousands of NICS denials and discover the goats and sheep. The police will discover the evidence over the course of just a couple of years and inform Congress of what might be the next step.

  17. Yes, it may seem like gunsplaining, pedantry and deflection.

But since the days of Hammurabi we’ve relied on language, as used in written laws, to codify behavior, compliance, and consequences. If the border is “the river”, it matters whether it’s the centerline, or the north bank, or the south bank. And we define what happens when the river forms an oxbow and changes its course over time.

When we’re discussing changing the fundamental, underlying legal bedrock of our country, it’s appropriate to insist upon precise and accurate language. We can’t be fuzzy with civil rights and public safety.

Broad protections are not necessarily imprecise, but fuzzy violations are almost always inaccurate, ineffective, and counterproductive.

  18. This Alabamian does NOT want gun control in any fashion. Those from my county did NOT vote for him. I can’t believe the idiots in the adjacent county did. I don’t even go into their county to shop now. No one from there gets any of my money and that city and their county don’t get my sales tax cash.

Doug Jones doesn’t appreciate anyone’s right to live. He says abortion is okay, up until birth, even partial birth. What kind of sick bastards want to kill babies? What is wrong with these people?

I’ve seen several other Alabamians comment here… What we really need to do is find out how we can have a recall vote on Doug Jones. He is doing a very poor job representing our state.

    • Ahh… Crap. I quickly realized that US Senators don’t seem to be elligible for recall. At least not in Alabama.

We have to wait for the next election. While we’re at it, we’ve got to get rid of RINO Richard Shelby and his girl Kay Ivey. They are Jones supporting Democrats that are thinly veiled as “Republican.” They are the swamp we were hoping to drain before we realized we elected the traitor in chief Trump.

  19. Can’t wait for Doug Jones to get kicked out come 2020. It’s like he is not even trying to win his re-election. He knows he comes from a conservative state but has been in complete lock step with Progressives on all issues. Guy won’t stand a chance in 2020 when his opponent in a non-pedophile.
