High school stocks classrooms with ‘safety bucket’ in case of active shooter

At least that Pennsylvania gave each classroom a bucket of rocks to throw at a shooter . . .

Heidi Hummel and her classmates are gearing up for their senior year at Clio High School.

In this day and age, in light of all the school shootings, back-to-school prep has taken a more somber tone. This year at Clio, every classroom will have what’s called a “safety bucket.”

“We are unloading them and using them in the event of a lockdown situation. We’re also going to use them as food and supplies if we were ever locked down for a long time,” Hummel said.

The buckets will go into every classroom in the district.

Assistant Principal Kevin Ayre said the school needs the public’s help to fill the buckets with potentially life-saving supplies.

“They’re going to be filled with gauze, bandages, water. You know, necessities in the situation that we have to be in a long-term lockdown,” Ayre said.

The Next Generation Squad Automatic Rifle (NGSAR) may replace about 80,000 SAWs (the M249 squad automatic weapon). The well-known and loved M249 SAWs were already beasts — now the Army’s light machine gun is going to get even more powerful.

Armed with the NGSARs, soldiers will have the confidence of knowing the new weapon can be relied on for stopping power against sophisticated adversaries who arrive to fight in advanced body armor.

The goal is for the weapon’s chamber pressure to achieve similar levels to battle tanks. Recent conflicts have shown that currently issued weapons have not been sufficient when tackling the challenge of forces with defense innovation and access to modern equipment.

Virgin Islands governor’s gun-confiscation plan probed by Republicans

Republican lawmakers are inquiring into an order from U.S. Virgin Islands Gov. Kenneth Mapp that theoretically allowed the state to seize citizens’ firearms ahead of Hurricane Irma last year.

Rep. Rob Bishop, who chairs the House Natural Resources Committee, and Rep. Bob Goodlatte, who chairs the House Judiciary Committee, sent Mapp, an independent, a letter Wednesday asking for clarification on an executive order he signed in September 2017 they said is still in effect.

The order, according to the two Republicans, gave the adjutant general the authority “to seize arms, ammunition, explosives and incendiary material and other property required.”

The order also “allows for the National Guard to spend government resources to acquire firearms and ammunition outside of normal government procurement processes.”

Bishop told Fox News’ Tucker Carlson the lawmakers want to know if “as devastating as those two hurricanes were, if that ever justifies the denial of a civil liberty or the denial of a constitutional right.”

An Arkansas man was sentenced to more than seven years in prison for buying guns in his home state to sell illegally in Chicago and the southwest suburbs.

U.S. District Judge Ronald A. Guzman sentenced 28-year-old Klint Kelley of Malvern, Arkansas, to seven years and three months in federal prison on Wednesday, according to a statement from the U.S. Attorney’s Office. Kelley pleaded guilty earlier this year to one federal count of unlawfully engaging in the business of dealing firearms and one count of selling firearms to a known felon.

  1. That school is on to something. As a test, let’s replace all armed guards for anti-second amendment politicians with allowing them to carry a bucket of rocks (no more than 10).

    Alternatively we could prosecute them for treason against their oath to uphold the constitution and enforce capital punishment. This would have the side benefit of directly reducing global warming thus solving two problems at once.

    And why aren’t democrats being prosecuted for inciting violence?!?

      • I dunno about that. The right is generally against abortion (because they think it’s murder) and flag burning and similar “anti-patriotic” crimes, as well as an anti-illegal immigration bent (and that is, by definition, not a right). That against free speech (I.e. anti-hate speech laws), freedom of religion (Masterpiece cakeshop, Hobby Lobby, the Little Sisters of the Poor), the 2nd Ammendment, etc. no real contest in my mind.

        • Health care is a heavy lift for me, mostly due to what I consider deliberate deception by advocates. You refer to “free health care” but I normally don’t hear that, just “right to health care”, then later come back with “po’ folk can’t afford it so we have to give it away”. I agree completely that everyone should have equal access to health care, and it would be really nice if schools pointed out how to go about arranging payment for that health care. Free health care, absolutely not. And “Medicare for all” is not a goal, because we already have it! Soon as you turn 65, they’ll start sending you the monthly bill, and you’ll know you’ve made it. Folks, NOTHING is free.

        • I’ll preface with I’m a 2A absolutionist.

          However, there is that pesky 9th Amendment. Perhaps you’ve read it:
          The enumeration in the Constitution, of certain rights, shall not be construed to deny or disparage others retained by the people.

          This means that just because it isn’t stated in The Constitution, or the Bill of Rights, that something isn’t a Right.

          The challenge, then, becomes, what is a right. To me, it has to be pre-existing (ie, not created by law), universal (applies to all) at a minimum. Health Care fails at pre-existing; Abortion fails at universal (applies only to women). Perhaps this is an over-simplification.

          Also, just because something is a Right, doesn’t mean that there cannot be progress towards improvement. As an example, animals crap and pee everywhere, and before sewers, so did humans. With the notable exception of San Francisco (and I’m sure other places), we generally have laws against public urination. However, in general, when you gotta go, you gotta go…

        • I agree. What I had in mind is how the left keeps moving the Overton Window on just about everything. Like the death penalty for one example. First they claim certain types of executions violate the 8A, then they claim the death penalty itself violates the 8A. Then, they move the goal posts and claim life imprisonment violates the 8A, and so on. They do this with just about everything.

    • See the 70s, at one point I believe we averaged a bombing a day. I think Reagan was wrong on the Black Panthers (I’m not a fan of the panthers, but banning open carry wasn’t the right way to deal with them), but I can understand the impulse. Things were bad for a good while.

    • Huh, no mention of keeping rocks in those buckets at Clio High School.

      Assuming that each classroom had enough baseball sized rocks for each student to throw three or four rocks, that would actually be a pretty formidable and effective defense mechanism. Any attacker who tries to breach the room would have to move through something like 75 to 100 baseball sized rocks moving toward them at 50+ m.p.h. (Note that 75 rocks at 50 m.p.h. would possess 12,000 foot-pounds of aggregate [pun intended] energy!)

      I don’t see any attacker successfully gaining the upper hand in such a scenario — especially if the students piled up desks and chairs at the doorway.

      • I strongly doubt the ability of today’s students to hit a moving target with a thrown object to literally save their lives.

There is a reason people were executed by stoning in Biblical times – it works! I’d rather have a shooter stoned to death than sitting for another 10 years on death row.         Does this part make you uncomfortable? If you read the book the “Negroes and the gun , the black tradition of arms” by Nicholas Johnson, 2014, you will see that these groups were insistent on blacks disarming during the civil rights movement in the 1950s and 60s.

      In Clio Michigan the school board doesn’t believe in self defense, so they give you a bucket of bandages while you wait a few hours for ’emergency services’ to enter the building and render aid.

  15. Is the safety bucket there to collect the spent brass? How long does this guy think a lockdown would last? Are they going to send everyone to a combat first aid class? Hand out RATS Tourniquet on the first day of school? The odds of being in a school shooting is less than winning Lotto. Much more likely to get hurt in a car. Will they have buckets on the buses too?

    • These lockdowns have lasted long enough for wounded to bleed to death. Nothing wrong with giving each classroom some basic first aid supplies, water, and a pot to pxxx in while they wait for the cowards in blue to frog march them to a parking lot.

      • Schools would be better off simply shooting the mofo, don’t bother to call cops until the end of the school day when the kids have left, so they can come get the body without disrupting classes.

  21. Tank guns do have somewhat higher chamber pressure than small arms. 81ksi verses about 70 ksi. More importantly, tank guns have a more prolonged pressure curve which yields more muzzle energy.

  22. Um, in nearly every leftist overthrow of a government (see Democrat Party goals), the leftists disarmed the general populace and armed their followers. The article quoted asks what would We The People do if the left decides to arm themselves. The political strategy that the leftist endorse already calls for it, so it is kind of a stupid question. The key to their strategy has always been to disarm the people and arm the government with that government being the same leftist who want to disarm the people. During this process, the left will arm themselves…they just hope that we will be disarmed first.

    I might note that this is probably the prelude to the left defending their cause after they ramp up the violence a few more notches. Their followers have already killed a few people and assaulted thousands, and it doesn’t take a clairvoyant to predict that the violence is going to get a lot worse. When their followers take up arms on a grander scale, I guarantee they will throw the blame on We The People. You know they will say things like “we wouldn’t have needed to kill you if you had only obeyed us”.

    Certainly, there are scary times ahead of us.

    • I understand most of your theorizing but I would remind you we have at least a 100 to one edge in weapons and ammo, to say nothing of training (from veterans to hunters), and among these leftists are millions of people who don’t even know which bathroom to use.
