New Seattle Gun Law Leaves Homeowners Unprepared for a Break-In

And that’s just the way they want it . . .

Seattle passed a law Monday requiring gun owners to store firearms unloaded and in a secured container.

CB119266 was passed unanimously by the Seattle City Council and makes it a civil infraction to keep firearms unlocked or loaded while not under control of the owner, imposing a fine of up to $500.

Violating the ordinance can result in even higher penalties, up to $1,000, if the firearm is accessible to a minor or an “at-risk” person. It can incur penalties of up to $10,000 if a minor, “at-risk” person or prohibited possessor obtains the firearm and uses it to harm oneself or another.

“Seattle is unafraid to be a leader and take legislative action on measures to reduce and prevent gun violence,” Durkan continued.

NJ Cops Came to Confiscate Guns After Son Discussed School Safety, Dad Says

Of course they did . . .

An Army veteran father says State Police tried to confiscate his firearms without a court order or warrant just because his son was overheard discussing school shooting news with a classmate.

Police said their visit was sparked by a conversation that Leonard Cottrell Jr.’s 13-year-old son had had with another student at school. Cottrell said he was told his son and the other student were discussing security being lax at Millstone Middle School.

The conversation was overheard by another student, who went home and told his parents. Those parents then contacted the school, which contacted the State Police, according to Cottrell.

Academy Sports Fires Manager Man Stole Gun

Manager fired after tackling shoplifter who stole gun, threatened to shoot people, police say

Really, Academy? Tell us this is #fakenews . . .

Crouch and another employee tackled White at the exit doors. White had a .40-caliber handgun, a stolen backpack with five boxes of ammunition and two magazines for a Glock handgun, according to the Democrat. Tallahassee police said White had also stolen two guns from a pawn shop hours earlier, according to the Democrat.

“He repeatedly said ‘I stole and I admit to it’ and ‘I will steal again when I get out of jail,’” investigators said, according to the Democrat.

Academy Sports could not comment on specific personnel but said Crouch’s termination was handled in accordance with its policy, according to the Democrat. It is unclear if the other employee was also fired.

Brett Kavanaugh First Second Amendment Semi-Auto Rifles
courtesy thedailybeast.com

Brett Kavanaugh Said Banning Assault Rifles Would Be Like Banning Speech

That’s probably because he sees the First and Second Amendments as equally important constitutional rights. . .

“In Heller, the Supreme Court held that handguns—the vast majority of which today are semi-automatic—are Constitutionally protected because they have not traditionally been banned and are in common use by law-abiding citizens,” (Kavanaugh) wrote. “There is no meaningful or persuasive constitutional distinction between semiautomatic handguns and semiautomatic rifles.”

As The Daily Beast noted after a previous mass shooting, a distinction between semi-automatic handguns and assault rifles is established by a law of another kind, this one a general law of physics:

Kinetic energy (K.E.) equals one half the mass (M) of an object times the square of the velocity (V). Kinetic energy—which is measured in Joules—increases exponentially with velocity.

Sultan: Clayton firefighter takes a side in the gun control debate and goes viral

Kurt Becker, a Clayton firefighter and union leader, never expected to join a group of moms advocating for gun law reforms. But while he was getting fitted for new body armor designed to protect him from semiautomatic gun fire, he hit a turning point.

He tweeted, in part: “Salesman assured me “These will stop everything but armor piercing bullets.” I’m a f’ng #FireFighter! When is enough, enough? I’ll be donating to @MomsDemand today!”

The tweet has gotten more than 30,000 likes.

Becker said new safety guidelines require fire departments that respond to mass shootings to update their personal safety equipment. Firefighters wait until law enforcement have done a first wave sweep in an active shooting incident, Becker said. Then, first responders go in to find, treat and extract patients, he said. They still face a personal security threat.

Will New Mom Cardi B Raise an Insurrectionist Army Against Government Tyranny?

The government should be afraid of the people, not the other way around . . .

She’s apparently willing to step outside ideological respectability as well. Cardi B, the first female solo hip hop artist to earn two number-one Billboard singles, says this to reporter Vanessa Grigoriadis:

“God forbid, the government tries to take us over, and we can’t defend ourselves because we don’t have no weapons.” She adds, “How do you think American colonizers went to Africa and it was so easy for them to get those people? Because they had guns. No matter what weapon you have, you can’t beat a gun.” She shrugs. “They have weapons like nuclear bombs that we don’t have. So imagine us not having any weapons at all.”

Even many defenders of gun rights find it less than politically expedient to emphasize the Second Amendment’s value in resisting government’s depredations, though it was one of the major reasons we have it in the first place. Still, Vox gave space to gun rights scholar David Kopel back in 2016 to preemptively explain why Cardi B isn’t being as outrageous as some might think.

As Kopel explains, “The Second Amendment does not create a right of revolution against tyranny. That inherent right is universal.” He points out that even the United Nations acknowledges this in its Universal Declaration of Human Rights. But by barring the government from disarming the people, the Second Amendment does “reinforce the rule of law and anti-tyranny structure of the US Constitution.”

  1. I think somebody in the Seattle city council needs to hire a lawyer to explain what statewide preemption means.

    • They know. It is just grandstanding to show the country what good leftists they are. They all want to be noticed on the national stage in hopes that the Democrats get into power again some time in the near future and they will get appointments or become a candidate for a national position . If not, no loss to them. The Seattle taxpayers flip the bill. It will go to court and the city of Seattle will lose. It isn’t the first time they have pulled a stunt like this. Mayor Nichols tried to outlaw concealed carry in city parks. He was advised it was unconstitutional but that didn’t stop him. He lost.

Seattle and because of Seattle, Washington is no longer the place it was. It always had open carry although no one really bothered. Concealed carry was always legal without a permit except in the cities. A concealed carry was and is shall issue but when they had it wasn’t called that. When I was a kid have the boys would be missing from school in November elk hunting. Now you have to hide that fact that you hunt. I have even been bashed for it at a gun range! A gun range started by hunters.

In the end the left will win in Washington because the demographics have changed drastically. People are coming from all over the country and the world and want to turn Washington into the places they fled from. Plus people like me moved to Idaho where things are still good. In Idaho you don’t need a permit to carry open or concealed. You don’t have to wear a helmut riding a motorcycle. You can even use plastic straws and bags for God’s sake! Funny it was all one political entity at one time. Now you cross the Snake and it’s a different world.

      • Spot on. Seattle is a progressive cancer eating away at the rest of the state. It’s about 10 years away from being San Francisco on the Puget Sound (San Francisco is about 15 years away from complete social collapse).

      • It’s called “cultural displacement” when referring to people from one culture moving into an area in such numbers that their values, practices, and customs come to dominate and ultimately replace the area’s original culture. The concept applies equally well to what you describe as happening in Seattle and Washington State. We’ve seeing similar things happen here in Texas where the major urban areas—Austin is the poster child for displacement as California and east-coast cosmopolites move in—are increasingly “progressive” while the surrounding areas (at least for now) are not. Displacement becomes weaponized when it becomes an element of government policy. Totalitarian states like the Soviet Union used this tactic to “Russianize” Baltic states like Latvia and Estonia by moving in new Russian populations. That’s happening here.

    • I wasnt even thinking preemption. I was thinking that the can’t remember DC v Heller…

“The requirement that any lawful firearm in the home be disassembled or bound by a trigger lock makes it impossible for citizens to use arms for the core lawful purpose of self-defense and is hence unconstitutional,”

I mean requiring an adult to keep the firearm locked up renders it useless….

      Virtue signaling leftists

  2. Cardi: African tribes enslave other African tribes and then sold them. Americans did NOT go over to Africa and capture slaves.
Sorry girl…that part of your story is WRONG.
There were middle-men from other countries…
    per quick wiki search:
The major Atlantic slave trading nations, ordered by trade volume, were: the Portuguese, the British, the French, the Spanish, and the Dutch Empires(Dutch =Netherlands)

    • History really doesn’t matter to people like her. They are so poorly educated that when they attempt to discuss historic events, as she does, they just spout gibberish. She doesn’t even know that she’s a racist because she has been taught that blacks can’t be racist. So that makes it all ok. Sadly, there’s an entire generation of people out there who are every bit as ignorant as she is. They disgust me.

    • In your rush to judgement you missed an important part of what she said. She didn’t say Americans. She said American colonizers. That includes many on the exact list of countries that you provided. And your history is correct, most of those European slave Traders did purchase those slaves from other tribes. However, they often did that purchasing at gunpoint as well as trading weapons for slaves.
And all of that is really beside the point. Because what this woman has done is get the point in the first place. The lack of weapons to defend yourself against tyranny is enslavement. I’m grateful that she gets it, and I’m grateful that she’s willing to say it. She’s speaking to a population that desperately needs to hear it.

    • You can rely on the state Supreme Court to rule in Seattle’s favor. They are almost all anti-gun and what the law actually says means nothing to them.

    • That’s not really the end game
They know that this will not survive in the WA Supreme Court.
As liberal as our court is, the preemption law can’t be ignored
There was a bill earlier this year that would have removed the preemption law.
      The bill never went anywhere
They know the court will overturn this law.
They want to push the idea that preemption law needs to be removed.
And that their “sensible safe law” was defeated by this evil preemption law.

    • I’d go further and say that this ordinance is in direct conflict with Heller as part of the ruling states:

“Similarly, the requirement that any lawful firearm in the home be disassembled or bound by a trigger lock makes it impossible for citizens to use arms for the core lawful purpose of self-defense and is hence unconstitutional.”

    • You know, I wondered that myself, so I read the entire section of the state law, including the laws municipalities and cities may enact, and not only is this ordinance clearly bullshit, but I have no idea how they are getting away with the guns and ammunition tax which is clearly in violation of the state constitution not only because of preemption, but because it is discriminatory.

I mean, I know the real answer is they don’t give a shit about the constitution, state or otherwise, but the chutzpah is breathtaking.

      • Swarf, they are getting away with the gun and ammunition tax because the state Supreme Court is composed of a bunch of anti-gunners, and they don’t care at all what the law actually says. Find and read the ruling where they approved it, and it’s some high-test BS. This ordinance will be allowed to stand as well, even though it’s in flagrant violation of preemption, because it’s the political result the Justices want.

  3. “According to The Democrat.”

The name of the news agency is “The Democrat”?. That just sends chills down my spine. It sounds like it’s literally ripped from a future hellscape Orwellian dystopia, where the only official news agency is a singular government run media, The Democrat.

    • Remember that one guy who captured Florida from the Spanish? What was his name? I think he founded a populist conservative political party and became President too…

Then that political party completely dominated the Southern US for about 120 years before they caved to special interest groups from the big coastal cities and switched demographics in the 1960s…

      What were they called again?

      • Are we talking about the same party that supportef slavery and then instited Jim Crow laws? The party that enacted gun control laws against minorities? The Democratic party has been rotten from the word go.

  4. Just posted this about 5 minutes ago on the Academy Sports BS. A sports manager at a Tallahassee Academy Sports was suspended then fired (from Fox news). Because on June 29 he and other employees dared to put their hands on a “customer” who was trying to flee the store with a .40 cal. handgun, ammunition and a backpack , none of which he was planning on paying for…so a customer?? Cops also charged him with a theft of two handguns from a pawn shop earlier in the day. So three counts of grand theft of a handgun for the thug. Since he has lost his job the husband with his wife and young child have put their home up for sale as they can’t afford it without the income he had.
Me thinks Academy needs to rethink their policies some. Who knows what lives his action may have saved? F**kin’ country is screwed up with all this PC BS!!! Spread this around folks. Hey I posted it before TTAG!!

    • B-but if you touch a (thieving) customer they might sue us, and we don’t have the insurance to pay for that!
I worked retail when I was in college and people stole stuff ALL the time, and we couldn’t lift a finger because of company policies and “insurance reasons” and crap. Just another case of twisted laws protecting the criminals and screwing the good guys. The manager and employee should sue Academy for damages, and someone should make a petition and gofundme for those guys’ legal fees. This kind of crap needs to stop, no matter where you live.

      • In this instance, it isn’t screwy laws, but big insurance companies or corporate risk managers who impose these policies from above. It is cheaper to let the stuff walk out the door than to defend a lawsuit by a customer claiming that he/she was unlawfully detained, even when the lawsuit has absolutely no legal merit. This is why we have articles here in the past about pharmacists getting canned for arming themselves and resisting armed robberies. Walgreen’s for example would rather lose the oxy than face a wrongful death lawsuit by a deceased customer’s grieving family by a bullet gone astray, no matter who fired it.

    • Just an observation. Academy’s corporate offices in Katy, TX is a gun free zone. 30.06 and 30.07 signs at entrance.

      • 30 plus years ago Academy used to be one of the best military surplus stores in Texas. It was really an awesome place. If you were going camping or hunting, that was the place to go. Heck, I knew a few folks in the National Guard that could get every single piece of their kit, except for the select fire weapons, at Academy.
Sadly, they have lost that philosophy in their commercial success.

  5. As for the firefighter…be thankful they are paying for that…wear it in good health
if a guy wants to kill you…he can shoot you in the legs and sever those femorals, too
    and is your helmet bulletproof?
more likely to be run over by your own firetruck than be shot…but whatever

  6. Whatever a Cardi B is she’s spot on…however with a plethora of black singer’s/ rapper’s with felonies I dunno’ how it’ll play out. Oh and other African’s sold y’all out. Academy sucks. Big Box sucks. Support your LGS…

    • Just because they have felonies and drug convictions doesn’t mean they don’t still possess guns. Snoop just hires private armed security. :^)

  7. As for Academy…I understand if a guy is walking out with a tent or a cooler…but guns and/or ammo?
    The employees involved need raises…
I’m sure another company will scoop them up in a heartbeat

  8. “The government should be afraid of the people, not the other way around . . .”

Our government is afraid of the people, which is why the G is trying to take away our guns.

  9. Seattle is full of leftist idiots, Amazon was building a huge new office they were going to fill with loads of employees, until the city decided to put a per head tax on them of $500 to pay for dealing with the homeless bums in the street. Amazon stopped construction of the office and announced they would be selling the project. Seattle politicians repealed the tax. It is no wonder Amazon is looking for a place to put a second headquarters, of course they are large part of the reason Seattle turned into a leftist hell hole.

  10. Sounds like this article is full of bad decisions.

Seattle made the bad decision of voting for idiots who want to ruin their city even further.

New Jersey made the bad decision of trying to confiscate a father’s guns without a warrant that no judge would sign for.

That firefighter made the bad decision of not getting replacement testicles along with the vest, since his are obviously faulty.

Academy made the bad decision to hire a good person when they decided to have a policy of giving out stuff for free.

  11. The issue we have with anti-gun leftists is that they deny science. The science of human nature as it relates to criminals and crime, the natural science of a right to self-defense that is evident to all life on the planet, and the physical science of guns and ammunition.

Since when does a gun’s action have any bearing at all on whether a single round will penetrate body armor? .308 from a semi auto rifle is somehow more lethal than a .308 from a bolt action rifle?

using the Seattle city council’s own logic, why should the police and guards who protect the council itself be armed? Isn’t it likely that these guns will be stolen? Obviously police should keep their weapons locked up and separated from ammunition and should be subject to severe fines just like civilians.

Finally- lock up guns protecting law abiding citizens but don’t deport criminal illegal aliens guilty of violent crimes? Shouldn’t those protecting criminal illegal aliens from deportation be subject personally to the same fines and punishments for their negligence when those criminals commit further crimes? THAT I’d like to see!

    • .308 from a semi auto rifle is somehow more lethal than a .308 from a bolt action rifle?

Because when they say they want to ban assault rifles, they mean all semiautomatic rifles. And by “semiautomatic rifles”, I mean all centerfire rifles.

  12. Just retired from a good sized rust belt FD , trust me he doesn’t represent most of us. I and most of my men carried to work every day, every firehouse had guys who kept guns in their lockers, and the Safe Act made a large number of my dept. felons in guess .

When we got a new guy, he was told two, things, put money into your deferred comp. and get your pistol, permit if you don’t have it .

FF don’t wear the vests, they’re kept on the rig for mass shooting type calls .

That guy would get pounded in my dept.

  13. How is Seattle going to go about enforcing this ordinance? Wait until you shoot a home invader and give you a fine for your troubles?

I mean, it makes sense. Mathematically, if you remove the option of expedient armed defense for law abiding citizens, you will “reduce gun violence” against the people they might have shot to protect themselves.

    • Well, if you are shooting an invader, the gun is in your possession, and the law is not violated. Just keep your mouth shut about where it was before you picked it up, or at least have a bed side gun vault. \

But when are arrests made? California has a somewhat similar law. Yesterday, in Fresno, Ca, a 2 year old found daddy’s unsecured and loaded gun. That child is now dead. Funny thing is, the father’s roommate who was there at the time (father was at work) has now been criminally charged under the statute. IN another case outside of Redding, Gramps (great-gramps actually) had been sleeping in the easy chair in the den because of a bad back, his Glock on the floor by his side. Gramps by the way was an FFL holder. Anyway, the grandkids–and their children–came over the next morning, earlier than expected. Gramps got up to answer the door, leaving his Glock by the chair. Well with this an that and all the hubbub, Gramps forgot he’d left the gun in the den–where his 4 year old great grandson found it. The child survived, but the shot took out a large chunk of his frontal lobe. Unsurprisingly, Gramps was charged, ultimately pleading guilty to a misdemeanor. Another case, CHP officer stores his duty gun on a high shelf, believing it to be out of the reach of his twin boys. It wasn’t. The boys, knowing where daddy kept his guns, stacked up boxes until one of them could reach the shelf. That child is dead.

Shit likes this happens about once a day in this country.

      • So at best, the idea is to get more irresponsible gun owners with children to start locking up their piece unloaded, how? With the threat of a $10k fine which is only enforceable after a child has shot themselves or someone else?

      • Darwin is a SOB

Don’t have dumb kids/raise idiots. Millions of kids DON’T touch the firearms, the burner, or stick a fork the outlet because they were not raised as idiots/by morons.

      • There are already laws for neglect, negligence, and endangerment. Leaving loaded guns accessible to toddlers is criminal. But, so is leaving out anything else dangerous. Toddlers also poison themselves on various household and pharmaceutical products, or enter bodies of water without knowing they can’t swim, and not trying to prevent that is also criminal. There don’t need to be restrictive laws to specifically address guns, especially in households without youngsters as residents or visitors.
However, the basic practices proscribed by the law are pretty good and conform to standard gun safety practices, although they don’t apply to everyone’s situation. NRA safety rule #3 is keep the gun unloaded when not in use. A defensive gun is always in use, but “store guns where they’re not accessible to unauthorized persons” still applies. Either home carry in proper holsters, keep loaded guns locked up in a quick action safe/box, or teach household members and kids to handle them safely and appropriately. “Security though obscurity” doesn’t work. A hidden gun will eventually be found with curious children around. How many of us growing up knew where to look to find Christmas/birthday presents, money, sweets, booze, happy pills, Dad’s special magazines, or anything else that was supposed to be secret/restricted?

        • “Proscribed”= “prohibited”. Think you want “prescribed”
Other than that, my 2 sons grew up from birth to adulthood with loaded guns in the house, they knew where they were and they knew the guns were loaded. And when we installed a pool, it did not have its own fence to keep them out. A lot of these supposed necessities are just silly.

  14. I spend quite a bit of money at the local Academy, have made a few firearm purchases too. I guess my money is going towards LGS and the new Cabelas that opened up from now on. Need to type up a letter letting Academy corporate know that too.

  15. Kavanaugh: “A ban on a class of arms is not an ‘incidental’ regulation,” “It is equivalent to a ban on a category of speech.””
Also Kavanaugh: “By contrast, fully automatic weapons, also known as machine guns, have traditionally been banned and may continue to be banned after Heller.”.

Let me guess: He’s OK with bans on “obscenity”?

    • Automatic weapons had never been banned and were for sale at your local hardware store when NFA 1934 was passed. He sounds simply ignorant, no reason to assume his attitude could not be changed in 15 minutes of testimony by a knowledgeable attorney.

  16. The best day I had being a firefighter was the day that I retired after 20 years (1994). I got so sick of the whining and bitching like we read above . When I became an officer I told the guys that hundreds would love to have their job and if they didn’t like the job resign and go shovel shit.

  17. I live in Florida. We have the “Castle Doctrine”, which means if you cross the threshold of my home, I can turn you into swiss cheese with my firearms, of which I have plenty.

One day, thugs tried to steal my outdoor TV in the Lanai. Little did they know that the TV was hooked up to the alarm system. I was in NJ at the time, and my wife was out shopping in Sarasota, FL (we live in Bradenton, just due north of Sarasota).

Well, the stupid burglars did not realize that not only was the TV hooked up to the alarm system, but it was bolt locked on both sides to the wall hanger unit for TVs. They would have needed a powerful bolt cutter to remove it.

Well, the detective said that the robbers will likely return, and one night they came back, using a crow bar in an attempt to break open the garage door. It was 3am, my wife was away, and my 3 dogs woke me up, barking because they heard the noise.

Well, I went over to the garage door and locked and loaded my AR-10 with .308 cal bullets and I locked and loaded my 44 magnum, plus my 17-round Glock 9mm. The next thing I heard were several sneakers running away from my home, because they had heard me lock and load each gun, and they heard my big dogs.

I sure wish they had been successful in opening the garage door.

  19. Someone should tell Cardi b Americans didn’t go over to Africa with guns and kidnap people. Europeans anchored off shore and picked up people on the shore towns from rival tribes who were more than willing to export people they conquered. There were other methods too but the Dutch, Portuguese, English, etc made quite a bit facilitating the immigration of defeated peoples. Some Americans were involved in the trade directly but it was run by Europeans.

She should stick to using her mouth for three things.

    • And someone should teach you to read. She didn’t say Americans. She said “American colonizers”, which includes every country on your list.
